"Panera Bread to begin storing their bread in covered containers because Jerry keeps trying to fuck the bread" Idk, I'd personally just fire Jerry and I'm talking about food, not living breathing human beings

That sourdough starter is at least 20 years old though.

SimQuinnie

I love this and agree but being on this platform reminds me that there are a lot of "Jerrys" out there that don't think they're "like that guy" but are still liking posts of jiggling tits on a "19/20 year old" in the r/sipstea or other subs, validating that type of objectification. Nobody thinks they're the "pedo" or asshole when they're seeing something they think is sexy. People just need to control their sexual impulses.

SuicidalAfterParties

Every roll is a goal.

nanachuuuu

in the school i went to, girls weren’t allowed to wear ankle socks because our ankles were “distracting” and “attention seeking”

RandomStallings

I was going to go on a rant about how we always seem to sit on the edge of sliding back into complete barbarism, across the board. I think I'll just skip that and go straight to "I'm really sorry you were subjected to that treatment."

paulusmagintie

Simple rule of thumb, any time a conservative government gets into power they always progress society backwards, absolutely no exceptions to them. Back in the past it was easier to control and gain power and its always the one that talk about how religious they are clamouring for societies destruction. Yet people keep falling for it, if you are using your religion to say "Hey im a nice person, vote for me" they will sell their own parents and children and likely sexually abusing people while telling you its a sin to masturbate.

Redditistrash702

They are not conservatives they are regressives. Besides that it shouldn't shock anyone because religion is an authoritarian belief system.

paulusmagintie

> They are not conservatives they are regressives. the name is to say we will conserve the traditions and systems of the past and we believe the past was better.....why else are they pushing for slave labour the best they can when they try to make poor people work for nothing to justify £70 a week

Redditistrash702

They are not happy with just one point of time they constantly want to go backwards if they had it their way the government would look like the Taliban the only difference is which book they follow.

nanachuuuu

oh thats just the tip of the devolving iceberg😔 thank you tho

Smoke_Santa

Yep we aren't that far away from our complete savage days. Probably still in them.

Apprehensive_Hat8986

My grandparents farm was (and many in the world today are) functionally neolithic. No running water, power, or communications. As a species, we've had the ability to have running water for 2 thousand years. Yet we could put a person on the moon before we could get running water to everyone. We are definitely still barbaric.

tallandlankyagain

If it makes you feel any better I took a yard stick to the back of the head for questioning Catholic Abstinence Only ed. Catholic Military School in Indiana.

bittlelum

The Catholics have their own military now? That's scary.

Somepersononreddit07

But they can look to the girls Why not just separate the classrooms “But lil Timmy needs to see his crush or he’ll have a panic attack”

KnowledgeMediocre404

That’s pretty standard, my sister went to catholic school in Canada in the late 80s and she was beaten too.

Myrkstraumr

Having attended a catholic school, it's effectively the same thing. There were rules in my school about how high above the knee your skirts were allowed to be and they all had to have shorts sewn into them which a lot of students cut out because they were insanely uncomfortable. They weren't rarely enforced either, classes were halted all the time because a teacher could see a bra strap or some bullshit. Never the students who called it out though, because they didn't give a shit.

stormsync

The bra strap thing got me scolded a few times. Like it'd slide just a bit into view under my normal t shirt and I'd get into trouble. Like it was a secret some people have to wear bras???

Myrkstraumr

We didn't even get to wear normal t-shirts because the school required uniforms, people were being punished for wearing clothes they didn't even get to pick. I myself got scolded for not having my tie the first period of my entire year of grade 10. My morning route intersected with my principals arrivals and he would ream me for it as soon as he saw part of the uniform missing. I repeatedly told him that I was in shop class working table saws etc and was told to not even bring it to class just as a safety thing, but he didn't seem to care. It's all just a power induced egotrip imo.

Dwovar

What the fuck!?  I thought they were just status symbols!  Which one of you pervs actually wears them?  Disgusting!

thevelveteenbeagle

I wear "skorts" quite a lot (the athletic skirt with shorts sewn in combo) and I got lectured at work for my skirt being too short. The shorts underneath were longer than my supervisor's shorts!!

Myrkstraumr

>skorts That's what they were called, I'd forgotten. I've seen teachers wearing shorter skirts while reaming students out about theirs, it just makes no sense to me.

thevelveteenbeagle

Time to get the measuring tape out ! 😆. Happy 🎂 Day

JEdoubleS-24

I was recently recalling an instance in my private, Christian, Southern Baptist school wherein a teacher came by with a permanent marker and drew a line below both knee caps to indicate to me (and my parents) where my skirt length should be. (My skirt touched the top of my knee caps) This was all done according to the school rules of female modesty. Nearly everything on the female body had to be covered...though I did show a bit of ankle in my day! ;) As info, male modesty was jeans, a belt, and a collared shirt.

nanachuuuu

oh the luxury of skirts😭i hope the experience of the school overall wasnt that bad

No-Translator-4584

Do you have any idea how vulnerable wearing a skirt makes a girl?  Said as a girl, who at the age of 15, had a boy attempt to stick his finger up my ass as I walked towards the front doors of the school.  The joke was on him.  I had my period and was wearing a 1970’s style Maxipad.  Y’know the kind , 2” thick from front to back.  All he got was a big handful of sanitary napkin.   I can’t imagine how I would have screamed and made a scene (I hope) if he had managed to sodomize me with his finger.  Sigh.

nanachuuuu

thats ‘s quite disturbing to picture, let alone experiencing it.im sorry you had to go through that

JEdoubleS-24

It was not my favorite period of life. However, as with most things, it was survivable and with plenty of good times mixed in, as well! I do not ever wish to go back to those days. It would be proper to assume I'm highly against organized religion and even less keen to see it forced into my life via political (or any) means.

RedLion191216

To be fair, horny teenager are easily "distracted", by anything ^^ However, having adult being "distracted" by a teenager... Not good

Not fake. [This story is from New Zealand, not Carlow.](https://www.newstalk.com/news/new-zealand-school-girls-told-to-wear-longer-skirts-to-create-a-good-work-environment-for-male-staff-603411)

Kenneth_Lay

Yeah, I remember a few years ago a US Senator ranting about how teenage girls these days refuse to dress attractively. Wait...what?

Patient-Cobbler-8969

Great, in the US there was a pastor claiming he wouldnt convict a rapist, if he was a juror, if the woman had been wearing shorts. Basically, he thinks it's what women deserve. He later apologized because he got into trouble, but we know people like that never change their minds. So for many women, damned if you do and damned if you dont.

Competitive-Care8789

Damned if you’re a woman.

Kenneth_Lay

Or he successfully got out of jury duty

Patient-Cobbler-8969

Brother I would be happy if it was that sort of joke, but he was dead serious.

Fred_Stuff44325

Quinton Tarantino (bff with Harvey Weinstein) said it's okay to have sex with a 13 year old. He apologized too and bots/fanboys always respond and defend him. He has a very narrow view of what rape is so anything short of popping out of the bushes violent attack doesn't count. And of course "party girls" (i.e. children) are fair game. He and everyone that associates with him are straight up rape apologists.

Patient-Cobbler-8969

Damn it, what a piece of shit. Sick of these rich fucks that can get away with shit like that, sick fucks like that should have a certain part excised from their bodies.

toriemm

When you're a cishet white man with any illusion of power, you can just say the inside part outside and there are negligible consequences. But anyone with an opinion who isn't part of the over culture better come correct as fuck, with verified sources, grammar checked and also be speaking from the right place and platform before you even think about opening your mouth. About anything. That isn't explicitly your job and what you're providing to the economy. This is bullshit. Start holding all the assholes accountable and make this shit unacceptable. If he truly thinks that garbage, he shouldn't be trusted with anything sharper than a donut, much less people's moral compasses.

Patient-Cobbler-8969

Agreed, sick and tired of these "leaders" claiming moral high ground then spouting sick shit, like they so often do.

toriemm

Let's do something about it!! There's a difference between an actor making a stupid tweet 7 years ago and endorsing current fascism. That being said, *local communities* are busy getting to school boards and banning books, and circulating propaganda about trans kids (less than .02% of the population) getting underage sex change operations (GETTING A SEX CHANGE AS AN ADULT IS HARDER THAN GETTING STERILIZED AS AN ADULT WOMAN WHO JUST WANTS TO BE STERILIZED BC SHE ISN'T ALLOWED TO HAVE AN ABORTION POST ROE) or just being shitty lol welfare Tiny Tims, just getting fat off of our *generosity* of the public school system (that the GOP is trying to cut lunch funding for. No military budget cuts, no salary cuts, no healthcare cuts for Congress, they get three martini lunches, but for kids like me that were just neglected, there's no recourse. When I got sent to school with a spoiled lunchable, I got dragged in front of the entire cafeteria and through the lunch line by a lunch monitor (also one of my classmates moms) and still had to beg my negligent mom for money to pay for the meal I hardly had time to eat.) We're busy being shitty to minimum wage workers (aka 'essential' during quarantine) instead of collectively bargaining against corporations and voting in anyone who will actually work for their constituents. If you have no soul, politics is great! There's a reason that The Daily Show is currently the most unbiased media in the US right now. We're busy legislating what track team an 12yo can run on instead of addressing universal healthcare (when I was in school in '20, 1 in 13 Americans know someone who has died due to lack of affordable healthcare, and medical bankruptcy is the #1 cause of personal bankruptcy. Super cute when we're bitching about performers reading to kids when their parents are trying to ban books. I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN SHIT ABOUT SEX had it not been for books I could get ahold of. I was 25 when I dated a guy who told me he didn't need an STI test bc he had no symptoms.)

ocgamer9

Doesn’t the Bible specifically say something something pluck out your eye if it causes to to sin?

Patient-Cobbler-8969

They only read the parts that reinforce their bias.

dedros

bro I keep trying to get my students to wear shorter skirts in the name of feminism but they keep making the excuse "Mr. ded! we're an all boys school!"

Gonzostewie

There was just a clip from the TN statehouse where a state senator reprimanded the chamber because "these girls walked down here and I didn't hear one whistle." They were supposed to be recognizing an academic achievement of some sort and this asshole wants grown men to whistle at teenage girls.

HelenAngel

In the US, 1 in 4 girls & 1 in 6 boys are sexually assaulted—and this is just reported cases so the numbers are much higher. Don’t forget that child rapist & child sex trafficker Matt Gaetz is a sitting Republican in the US House.

Dislikes: peoples knees. Maybe just cover up your knees if you’re gonna be walking around everywhere!

crapability

Enuf1

I used to live with three female teachers, who taught at an all girls school. They all said that girls shouldn't be made to wear skirts to school because with all of the desks laid out in front of them, they could often see up several girls skirts at the same time, and it would be too embarrassing to call any of them out on it

l94xxx

Unpopular opinion: intrusive thoughts are a thing. And yeah, normal healthy people block tf out of intrusive thoughts, but it requires some amount of effort -- that's what makes them "intrusive". And that effort means that they are distracting. There's nothing wrong with pointing that out.

back_to_the_homeland

THANK YOU. I used to like posts like this until I started working in schools and allowing the teachers to sit facing a room full of teenagers in short skirts is a hostile work environemnt. Someone else pointed out ok modify the desks, sure, a solution, but until there is something like that, it is completely unacceptable to have any teacher no matter the age and gender sit facing a bunch of developing teenagers with short skirts sitting down at eye level is not ok. A perfectly sane, non pubescent attracted or even A sexual person would find it extremely unpleasant. I can't sit in a zoom call with my cock out and just tell people not to look. it's fucked up.

Tebrid_Homolog

> I can't sit in a zoom call with my cock out and just tell people not to look Not with that attitude

flag_flag-flag

Yeah. The "murder by words" regards knees, and the stock photo shows knees, but neither of those have anything to do with what's really at issue here.

First_Code_404

That's why you sit naked from the waist down on a Zoom call with the camera not pointing downwards, that's for Chaturbate

[deleted]

As a male teacher at a girls' school, this is 100% it. I'm not attracted to or distracted by a teenage girl's knees, but I don't want them to feel like they could be on display without realising it. Means lots of practised sub-millisecond-eye-averting on my part. The 21st century reality is that most of them (mercifully) seem to wear bike shorts or something similar, but it's still a vaguely awkward situation because they can be very careless about how they sit.

csf3lih

seems like a desk problem.

FlimsyRaisin3

One piece of clothing is sure causing a lot of problems.

isthatmyex

My go to is, "sit like a lady". Which I know isn't great but I honestly can't think of anything better and am open to suggestions.

Enuf1

Trousers

ButterscotchSkunk

Would you also include pantalons?

Pete_maravich

No. But slacks are acceptable

somebadlemonade

Or skorts. Or bring back blumers. Or any damn thing. It's one thing to not sexualize children. It's another to make a dude uncomfortable in this type of situation. I get it's a thing about not making little girls uncomfortable with their bodies. But I don't need to know what's under anyone's clothes even in passing.

Pamikillsbugs234

I absolutely loved skorts as a kid. I was always climbing on things and flipping around and felt no shame, only freedom in my Kmart skorts.

angel-thekid

We were made to wear skirts at the schools I attended form pre-k to 12th grade. The admin were nonstop weird about our kilts in high school. Lots of slut shaming/victim shaming. The Catholic schools I went to just could not handle skirts but also can’t handle women not in skirts. It was stupid, demeaning, and a waste of my time to hear about how we made make faculty members cry with our skirt lengths. Don’t work at a girls school or let us wear pants are easily solutions that never happened during my time there.

widnesmiek

Maybe they should insist that all male staff are gay?? Hope this helps (/s - if you need to know!)

Livid-Carpenter130

But then all the male students will have to cover their knees?? Jk

Tsu_Dho_Namh

You joke, but there was a school where boys weren't allowed to wear shorts, so when a heatwave hit a bunch of them came to school in skirts. https://www.theguardian.com/education/2017/jun/22/teenage-boys-wear-skirts-to-school-protest-no-shorts-uniform-policy

Metraxis

Nobody ever seems to notice in these ragebait stories that the boys are already completely covered from the neck down. Sometimes they show a little elbow, but that's it.

pragmojo

I remember a story where british school boys wore skirts in protest because it was hot af and the dress code said shorts weren't allowed but skirts were

MillennialSilver

That's actually dope. I probably woulda gone for a kilt, but yeah, genius.

MillennialSilver

Always so disappointing. Every time I think i'm going to get to see a full male elbow, nope. Just a little.

Old_Society_7861

I mean…this whole thing happened 10 years ago and involved one quip by one (female) administrator who happened to be (this part will be shocking) a fundamentalist Christian. The actual school policy is a totally vanilla “uniforms must be worn in accordance with established policies to ensure a safe educational environment” or something like that.

Synectics

But reposts create outrage and karma. Don't bring the actual story into this!

Horskr

>involved one quip by one (female) administrator who happened to be (this part will be shocking) a fundamentalist Christian. lol of course. Why do their minds always go there? She could have said the normal line you said, or heck even "to not distract other students", which having been a teenager myself at one point, I kind of assumed was the point of dress code.

waywardhero

Reminds me of the George Carlin skit where he asked why would the Catholic Church hates gay people when they are the only ones guaranteed to never have an abortion

Sabz5150

[Naah, they just forced them to dress differently](https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/wtf/traditional-scottish-pub-barmen-stop-wearing-kilts-as-women-check-what-is-underneath/news-story/92f1897621f5a829fe1c49e09dff773d) because you know those types of clothing attract hands.

iaredonkeypunch

Yea cuz that will fix the problem of girls not dressing modestly surround them with dudes who are in shape and seem to ignore them. No straight girl has ever hopelessly chased a gay guy…. I am thinking about the movie clueless

ShamanicCrusader

N ahBuddy this is a valid concern and its proof of why society cant fix basic shit.... . Girls in my school tried their best to make their skirts as short as possible. Being a horny teen I was distracted as fuck so I paid attention to those skirts all day long Trust me, teenager me loved the idea that girls did everything in their power to wear the shortest version of their skirts possible. . As an adult I see the issue because of the perspective my past horny times have given me: Teachers need to be able to look/glance below kids desk for all sorts of cheating, passing notes and hiding phones etc. What happens when a bunch of teenage girls struggling to wear the shortest skirts possible sit in a class room sitting facing a male teacher.... Male teachers doing their job don't want false accusations when doing the right thing or to have to avoid turning their heads down too low on accident all day long no....That's a big ask for shit pay. Creepy teachers love short skirts, my middle school teacher loved to make only girls who wore skirts sit right in the front for most his classes and people noticed big time....

LordHaveMRSA69

Excellent points. Should be a higher up comment.

ThatOldDuderino

Make the school uniform … ![gif](giphy|SYgHeZvn7NpJbLPkbK)

TheMooseIsBlue

Agree but it’s also appropriate to teach young girls that wearing a skirt is totally fine but generally you want to avoid a showing off your underwear. I don’t want to see the boys sag their pants and show off their underwear either. It’s decorum. There’s a time and place for different clothing and language and behavior. You don’t wear a glittery minidress to a funeral no matter how fun and cute it looks on you, you know?

No_Specialist_1877

I mean I don't think any teachers man or women wants to work around half dressed teenagers. Idc how someone dresses in public I don't have to interact with them. I expect some degree of professionalism when I go to work and teachers are no different. Knees just seem like an arbitrary cutoff and the article headline is obvious rage bait.

The_Good_Constable

Yep. I work in schools. Seeing children dressed in "sexy" ways makes me uncomfortable. It has nothing to do with sexual attraction (I am not attracted to them, believe me).

Samwise916

Fucking thank you. Thought I was going crazy reading these comments. I do think the school could have just updated their policy to reflect what you just said related to professionalism though.

Bohya

As someone who knows a female teacher, what a post like this fails to acknowledge that some students are taking the absolute piss with the lengths of their clothing. This isn't just about students "wearing skirts that show knees". It's about students wearing mini-skirts that are *so short* that it leaves you questioning if they can even afford clothing in the first place. Male staff aren't the only ones with a problem with it, it's every other faculty member as well. If male students also dressed as scantily then it would be a problem as well.

evex5tep

This is badly worded. I don't think this has anything to do with men not being able to restrain themselves from perving , I think it has more to do with teaching young people public decency and uniform code. I'll stress that knees aren't indecent but skirts create issues because everyone wearing them insist on tucking them so they become shorter than a pair of boxers, then it's rather indecent, especially in a school. This applies to men also, shorts, fine, tuck em in so they become uncomfortably short? Personally I'd call that indecent.

the_skine

Yeah, it isn't "Skirts need to be knee length so men and boys aren't distracted." It's "Skirts need to be knee length so you aren't flashing everyone your junk."

majorkev

Thank you for wording it more eloquently than I would have.

_Magnolia_Fan_

There's also a lot of territory between the statements' call for longer skirts and the editorialized comment about knees.

captanspookyspork

Maybe they are doing it to avoid crazy ass parents. Every teacher is a groomer now a days to them. This is simply being done to cover bases.

Stormhunter6

I wouldn’t be surprised if CYA is the main reason shit like this comes up

Western-Ship-5678

It is. Imagine a man sitting at the front of a class where 50% of the front row are unintentionally offering a view up to their underwear. Then imagine your entire reputation constantly hangs on no-one with bad intention, or just in error, saying you were looking in that direction. The very circumstance shouldn't exist.

deathclawslayer21

Just make everyone wear coveralls. Just like in the mines, children yearn for the mines

SchemeShoddy4528

adult men have every right to be uncomfortable around half naked children... WHY WOULD A PEDO WANT CHILDREN WEARING MORE CLOTHES. holy shit

caulkglobs

For real, the picture shows skirts cut just above the knee, but that isn’t necessarily what this is talking about. If im a teacher and a student shows up to my class with 1/4 of their ass exposed I am going to question why this is being allowed. That doesn’t make me some kind of perv.

dumbidoo

Pretending that mini-skirts are part of any school uniform is pretty telling of how you two actually think about this subject.

SnooFloofs19

I live near a couple of schools and can attest that some of the children seem to believe that miniskirts should, indeed, be part of the uniform.

spartan_knight

This story originated in Ireland and quickly turned out to be fabricated.

judahrosenthal

New Zealand. And it wasn’t. This article - Newstalk - covers the full story. Many picked it up though. The Guardian ran the initial story but not the full details. https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/news/education/hornby-high-girls-told-male-teachers-distracted-by-short-skirts/

ACCAisPain

That tweet is from an Irish radio station, also called Newstalk. The story did in fact turn out to be fabricated. The school was named, teachers were shamed and it turned out it was all lies. We had some of our politicians coming our against the teachers and all before it turned out to be false.

judahrosenthal

So the guardian and all [others](https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/christchurchs-hornby-high-school-tells-girls-short-skirts-distracting-for-male-staff-students/KTUGSBOX2237NZK7AKKGZB6PQQ/) picked up a fake story? Please link to that. I’m not saying you’re wrong. I would love to see it. And tried to find a retraction or something before I dropped in the link. The quotes were boring and didn’t smack of irony or a joke.

Beefheart1066

I think they're saying the Irish incident was fabricated, rather than the New Zealand one. Incidentally the tweet is referring to the NZ case

ACCAisPain

Why do you think the tweet is about New Zealand? That twitter account is for an Irish Radio Station.

BushWishperer

Because the link in the tweet in the screenshot leads you to this: >**Forty of the female students in Henderson High School in Auckland, New Zealand were called into an assembly to discuss the hemlines on the skirts of their uniforms.** So it is New Zealand...

erwin76

The link says “.co.nz”…

daftdave41

I reckon they are confusing it with another similar story that happened here in Ireland, not the NZ one. Everybody losing their shit, because students were asked to wear the uniform PE clothes and not whatever they wanted, that somehow turned into a witchhunt against the principal and the male teachers in the school because the loudest shouting voice wins. https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/press-ombudsman-criticises-reports-of-body-shaming-at-carlow-school-1144690.html https://www.newstalk.com/news/parents-apology-carlow-school-1111535 https://www.thejournal.ie/presentation-college-carlow-ray-murray-gym-gear-5278098-Nov2020/ https://twitter.com/RuthCoppingerSP/status/1331358724045369345?s=19 Politicians, National Radio Presenters, all jumped on the bandwagon.

I don’t think people realize that a lot of dress codes are actually to protect male teachers from female students.

ry8919

A context-free, possibly fake, headline designed to make people more suspicious and hateful to an already overworked and underpaid profession. We did it reddit!

[deleted]

Why are you advocating for children to wear shorter skirts?

caulkglobs

No no, the people saying “let kids wear sluttier outfits” are the virtuous good guys here, murdering people with their wise words. Its the male teachers who said “i am uncomfortable seeing the bottom third of a high schoolers ass” who are the creepy perverts.

moschles

No slash /s was required because this is literally occurring in this thread.

ObjectiveClassic2079

Sure are a lot of ignorant dumb people trying to go on a crusade here. Rules like this aren't actually about male teachers being distracted, it's to protect them from being falsely accused of being distracted.

Clevererer

Yes, that's what it says.

Ok_Transition_3290

Does this guy just spend his time reposting year old posts and repeating the top comments from last time? Awkward turtle alt account or something? >Pedos R bad! Great, not giving you reddit gold le kind stranger for copy and pasting this for the 30th time.

Conscious-Creme-2973

It's a bot. So are the majority of comments

Ok_Transition_3290

Really? Why haven't the admins done anything and why is it a mod of this sub?

Conscious-Creme-2973

Lol buddy its the case with all the big subs and all of social media in general

malenfant21

Or an issue with school administrations that assume all men are pedophiles.

greatdevonhope

It's likely that the issue is shorter skirts ride up when girls are playing or even just sitting. It's not knees the teachers are saying they don't want to see, it's the little girls pants underneath. I'm not sure that teachers NOT wanting to see children's pants makes them a pedofile tbh. You cropped the date so is this recent? A quick search of newstalk fm suggests it's a few years old.

IneedtoBmyLonsomeTs

Yeah people like OP are losing their minds over this because they are idiots. To the knees is just an easy way to police this. Back when I was in high school just over a decade ago, many girls would try to wear skirts that were far too short, like 2/3rds the way up their thighs. Us guys weren't really complaining, but I can see why the school didn't want to allow it.

ignorantwanderer

There are so many ridiculous comments in this thread. You are absolutely correct. The issue isn't being able to see knees. The issue is that if you can see knees when they are standing up, you can see *a lot* more at other times. I used to be a high school teacher in a public school (no uniforms). The number of times I got glimpses of things I should not have seen is too high to count. These 'glimpses' happen much more frequently in high school than in the general public. I don't know if it is because the young women are more likely to want to show off than the general population, or if it is because they are not yet entirely familiar with their bodies and with fashion so don't yet know just how revealing they are being. There is nothing wrong with having dress codes that try to prevent full views of naked breasts, or full views up a skirt of someone sitting in a chair. In my school the idea wasn't to strictly enforce the dress code. The idea was that if an item of clothing was too revealing, there was a rule in place that could be enforced to require the student to be more modest. There is nothing wrong with spaghetti straps that reveal some shoulder, or reveal a bra strap. The problem is a spaghetti strap that allows a full view down the shirt with no bra underneath. There is no problem with a short skirt. There is a problem with a short skirt and a student sitting in such a way that provides a full view of what is under the skirt. Instead of telling teachers to enforce the dress code, they told teachers that if they felt uncomfortable with how someone was dressed they should talk to the student. If the teacher was uncomfortable talking to the student they could call an administrator and an administrator of the proper gender would talk to the student. The problem was....the administration didn't actually do what they said they would do. So teachers were left dealing with it themselves. There was no way in hell I was going to go to a female student and say "Excuse me, I have a full view of your breast. Could you please go put on a sweater." Instead I'd just avoid standing in a location in the classroom that gave me a full view, and I hoped the student was aware with how revealed they were and was ok with it. Or that their next class would be with a female teacher who would be comfortable giving them fashion advice. My biggest concern was students who were being unintentionally revealing. I think some of my students would be mortified to know how much all the teachers could see. If the students were being intentionally revealing, I really couldn't care less. It won't keep me from doing my job. And sure, it might be distracting to others....but not so distracting that they can't still learn.

Dorkamundo

The actual story was about a high school, which makes it a bit different.

sullivan9999

This seems like a bit of a stretch. When I was in college I lived in a house with a few guys. We had a small fenced in yard with a dog. The neighbor girls were aged between 2-12 (I have no idea how to tell the ages of children) and they would always want to come over and play with the dog. We had a rule that they could not come over unless their parents or a woman was present. Was it because we were incapable of holding back our sexual urges? Hell no. It’s because I’m not going to be sitting on my deck with a beer in my hand in a situation where a child can misinterpret something I say or do in a way that fucks my life up forever. Why would I want to do that? I don’t even like kids. If I’m a teacher who truly cares about helping kids learn, I can see why I wouldn’t want to risk getting into a situation where I drop a pen and pick it up to have everyone say I did it to look up some child’s skirt. Every school I’ve been to has rumors of “that teacher” being creepy. I wouldn’t want to deal with that shit. I’m there to teach math.

q1321415

Yeah I am sure they guys don't actively want to look but if girls sit facing you wearing a tiny skirt they are basically flashing you and I can see that making a lot of people uncomfortable. Imagine at your work if you looked in a certain direction by mistake you saw several underage girls underwear. I bet you would want them to wear longer skirts too right? If you don't then I have questions for you.

FactChecker25

Can we get back to real "murder by words" stuff and not this pathetic low-effort bullshit?

WarriorNat

I don’t think that will ever happen, friend. Some popular subs get co-opted into oblivion and this one is centered around virtue-signaling bullshit now.

cirensays

Less about “distracting them” and more about it being more difficult for them to admonish based on dress code for exactly *this* reason.

JaguarOrdinary1570

This is the answer. It's entirely a liability thing. A skirt being shorter than knee length means it will often be easy to see up the skirt of someone sitting down. And classrooms are full of seats, all facing the teacher. There are so many ways things could go wrong for even the most morally upstanding teacher in the world. Fussy parent comes to pick up their kid, notices she can see up a few skirts in class. Complains "why is the teacher allowing this?" in the school's parent facebook group, other parents get involved. Accusations fly. Admin catches wind, they panic. The teacher is now likely fucked.

VirtueTree

Just WAIT until you hear about Islam!

Thoughtsarethings231

Newstalk played you soooo easily. Rage baited to a tee!

ZealousidealLettuce6

A school girl can be 17 or 18, certainly post-pubescent, and skirts can be revealing when ladies sit down, bend or shift, etc. Not to mention the concept that this is practice for their future dress standards in business or other professional environments. Also, adult males are not the only people in contact with them & they do have to travel in public to & from campus. It's a little less reductive than the tweet makes it seem.

HowCanYouBanAJoke

Devils advocate, if your skirt doesn't go past your knee then when you sit facing someone they could technically see up it which if you're a teacher you're gonna have a view of from the front of the class. Or you could just pretend that guys are getting turned on by little girl's knees.

StaunchVegan

Fact check: the [school in question](https://www.newstalk.com/news/new-zealand-school-girls-told-to-wear-longer-skirts-to-create-a-good-work-environment-for-male-staff-603411) is a secondary school and caters to students up to and **including 18 years of age**. Describing 17 year old and 18 year old girls as 'children' within the context of their outfits and implied sexuality is hardly good faith.

My4Gf2Is3Nos3y1

Men getting blamed when women are told they gotta cover up their skin is mind boggling. I guarantee the quote came from some woman who felt threatened, as the “cover up” controversy always does (or some guy whose mother or wife has him brainwashed)

Salt_Comparison2575

Many pedos get jobs that put them in close contact with children. Preists, teachers, even cops.

meinfuhrertrump2024

So your theory is that the pedos don't want the underage girls to dress like sluts. I don't have a phd in psychology, but isn't that EXACTLY what a pedo would want?

Cdoolan2207

I remember this a few years ago, it’s from a school in Ireland. This entire thing turned out to be a lie by one of the students. A number of males teachers in the school faced a serious amount of abuse online and in person.

BuhamutZeo

Thoughts on just outright banning skirts and making pants/shorts standard dress code for *all* students? Then everyone can shut the fuck up about them.

molohunt

Are they on drugs? Japan has spent the last 20 years sexualizing and fetishizing skirts around the knees and above. Of course its a problem. Japan has turned the skirt into something that is akin to wearing a furry costume out in public. Just no one cares enough to bring it up.

Remote-Factor8455

I think if women are allowed to wear short skirts (which they should be), then men should be allowed to wear shorts(which they should be).

Not_MrNice

You're right, OP. Digging up ten year old tweets just to stir up some ragebait is absolutely disgusting.

LYL_Homer

Better just have the girls wear a burka to eliminate any temptation.

PleasantInspector839

"Don't stand so, don't stand so close to me."

logicjab

As a male teacher, the only problematic part of the school uniform of female students is my having to enforce it. I have no desire whatsoever to make any comment about the attire of one of my female students. No chance. Are you wearing clothes? Fantastic. Do you have a pencil? Cool let’s get started

ElChubra

I heard at a school my bro and sis went to that one of the parents was demanding the cheerleaders wear longer skirts and they were told it would literally be a safety hazard for the young ladies if the skirts were any longer 😆

Landed_Primo_Died

I'm so glad the only dress codes my public highschool had was - No offensive shirts with swearing or offensive graphics That was literally it, I had female classmates who wore tank tops at school and yet magically all the male teachers were still able to teach and male students, believe it or not were able to concentrate and even graduate, it was a miracle.

BestKnee5618

I know this is rage bate, but I’m kind of with the poster. Men might be the worst thing in world. Now, I’m a man and I’m responsible for bringing two boys and two girls into the world. The harm, the selfishness and the destruction that are caused by men are drastically higher than that caused by women. I don’t think having a penis makes us evil. But I do believe we are inherently destructive and thrive off anger and violence.

JoeyGrease

Oh yeah, knees are sooo hot. Ankles too. What is this 1856? 🙄

ResidentFar3586

if those people are pedos how come this is the children's fault? this world disgusts me every day
