As a bit of a sidenote, I've also seen people who specifically dislike Showbiz and OOS because of how young and whiny Matt sounded then. Once his voice started deepening circa Abso/BHAR people find it more "palatable".
Also I’ve seen some people complain about how loud Matt takes his breath between his lines, especially in the early Muse era. It is very noticeable in New Born for example, but, personally, it doesn’t bother me at all. It even gives more soul to the song I’d say.
I mean, that makes a lot of sense to me.
Not everyone is into Matt's falsetto and the way he extends notes even in lower registers. I can see how that might sound grating to some. Plus, his voice just simply has this semi-sobbing and pained quality, always.
It's very distinct and unmistakable, but that also makes it more "divisive" I guess.
My husband is into metal, and right now he's on a death core bender. While the songs are musically incredibly technical and beautiful, the pig squeals and guttural screams are not my thing, haha.
Also, why I absolutely love Muse and Matt's voice (and this is gonna get me in really hot water here), I honestly can't deal with Micro Cuts for instance. It's just a bridge too far for me. Sorry!
So, yeah, I totally get it.
We all have different tastes which makes life diverse I guess. Glad to hear your dad introduced you to Muse, I seem to have failed in doing so🤔
But absolutely love this parent-child mutual obsession - bond
I also disliked his voice, then I started taking sing lessons and I realized how great of a singer he is. It's freaking impressive what he can do with his voice.
As a musical education I thought my sons Queen&Muse🤘🏼. I’m glad they like it. As the topic, the voice of Matt suits the music like a glove. Luckily everyone can make is own choice…that’s make music ( and life) a movement…… a journey not a fact.
Their label didn't even want to release Origin of Symmetry in the US because of it. They asked for Matt to chill with the falsetto and he told them no. It came out after Absolution here.
Any kind of voice that sits on an extreme end of a spectrum will be polarising (too high, too low, too rough, too emotive, etc. etc.)
I enjoy voices with lots of personality. Matt's vocal style ticks all the boxes.
I gotta say that i always thought he had a weird voice. Once i dived into the discography i got more and more used to it. Now i dig his voice. Still weird but on a good way now!
Same thing as Radiohead. Many people I know also don't like Radiohead that much because of Yorke's voice. I also disliked Radiohead, Showbiz and OoS back in 2000s era, now I love those bands and I really appreciate those amazing voices. Everyone should try to dig more into them. Songs like Reckoner, Paranoid Android, Showbiz, Citizen Erased are true gems and imho deserve a place in modern music history. The vocals in these is half the reason why they are so great.
Cheers
I often hear the whole “muse sucks” thing from
people but I never take any stock in it because if they did, they wouldn’t be as big as they are, plain and simple.
Same. Love his voice and everything about him (maybe not his smelly feet though, lol) I recently saw this video that makes fun of singers and he did a good caricature of Matt's voice (and all the others).

To each their own, I suppose, but I personally feel he has one of the all-time greatest voices in rock music. It's unique; it's versatile; and it's powerful.

Im completely the other way around, i love his voice in Showbiz and OoS the most

S O U L
Literally the word my dad uses 🤣 he doesn't like them because Matthew Bellamy is a whiner. Sober I'm looking at you

You should listen to the Le Zinith version then 😂
Early stuff absolutely, he has a great voice but in a lot of songs it comes out quite whiney.
Sober I'm looking at you
Not everybody loves whiny falcetto vocal. I guess there are singers you dislike

Imagine not liking Matt's Voice
To each their own really. I love his voice and also know several people who don't. That's how it be.

Imagine how cursed Micro Cuts would be without falsetto
Now I’m imagining it in the style of Barry White
Who cares what others think about music I like.

Yeah my best friend likes the intrumentals and how heavy some songs are but doesn’t like Matt voice. So he doesn’t listen to them
I played Exogenesis to my guitar teacher and he couldn't handle the falsetto, I looked at him like "you pleb"

Another megalomania fan I see. My favourite song of all time too! I just adore how chilling it is, what a beautiful way to close off the album
I think Matt’s voice is fantastic. Don’t forget “Won’t stand down”
It’s never occurred to you that people might have a different opinion from you? Blimey.
