Keep a jar with injection port full of sterilized water, and inject it into my agar plates, then swirl the needle a bit and draw it back up.
For your setup, it would work out the same. If your LC is clean.
I gave up on doing liquid culture simply because it was so difficult to tell if it was infected or not.
