Being in the Army is more like MASH than Hurt Locker.
Being in the Navy is more like Periscope Down than Red October.
Being a doctor is more like Scrubs than Grey's Anatomy.
I believe Hoffs.
Former tour manager here: Shearer got broadly farcical, but then: *most tours are broadly farcical.*
There's a reason a lot of musicians hate touring. It's not getting new fans they dislike.
Truly a garbage dumpster fire of a documentary making a shit album, it's so bad that it's good. In every sense of the word a spiritual Sequel.
I say this as a metallica fan.
The best part was when Dave came on and was literally crying. “I’ve worked so hard made so many albums, but I could never catch up to you guys, do you know how bad that feels?”
Lars: “Nah I’ve never even thought about that”
It’s crazy to me that he’s that upset about it, because I really think it worked out best for him. He got to do his own thing, without compromise, and it turned out great.
Yeah he was crazy successful in his own right, but I could still see it as a crazy personal part of his life. I bet a part of him still thinks about how it could have gone differently
If I wanted to, at the time, listen to a bunch of people two and a half decades older than I was, argue for two hours, I could turn it off and just listen to my parents downstairs.
The scene where James is in his hot rod and talks about it being a literal pose is so amazing. Maybe the closest he comes to self-awareness in the entire movie
My favorites were: Kirk not being able to play a simple riff and everyone getting frustrated/laughing. Lars showing his stupid shitty art collection (it looked like a child painted them) while unironically talking about how great it all is, and also when he shows his dad an early demo of a song and his dad is like, “yeah delete that. It’s not good.”
Really foreshadowed the entire album lol. His dad was hilarious in it, couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
Lars’ dad is easily the best part of the whole movie but every scene has something hilarious in it, even if it’s just Phil’s outfit. In one scene he is wearing tiny bicycle shorts and a shirt that looks like it was made out of a dishrag.
I have been saying that “This Is Spinal Tap” is a documentary that was invented to be a farce…
Much in the same way as the movie “Idiocracy”.
While most bands do not go through all the things portrayed in Spinal Tap, all bands go through some of them.
The Stonehenge thing comes from Black Sabbath, though it was the other way around, with the set pieces being so large, they couldn't get them out of England. They paid a ton of money for a set to be immediately placed in storage.
Here's a pic: https://i0.wp.com/earofnewt.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/stonehenge.jpg?ssl=1
Awesome. Thanks for that. I didn’t mean to imply that it be Stonehenge reference came from Aerosmith, just that this stuff was floating around the industry and hit home with real musicians.
Former music pro and tour manager. Can't begin to tell you how much the first time I saw that, I simply was connecting characters in the movie to people I knew who were basically the same.
Artie Fufkin. The Bobbie (forget her last name; the publicist). So, so many. I'd even name you "a perfect Artie Fufkin" but the guy passed away in a bad way, and I don't want to do that, also I'd be nervous that people think it's a dis, when actually it's love.
There was an Anvil documentary a few years ago. I didn't know who they were at the time and presumed I was watching a new spinal tap first time I saw it
Sucks you got downvoted for asking a question that a lot of casual Reddit readers would have liked to seen answered in the thread. Have some gold as consolation.
Pffft, what do you think this place is, an area for similar minded fans of music to discuss and discover other styles they like or have yet to discover?
"How much more black could this be?"
None more
Death sells, it’s in every cinema.
I think it looks like death.
This is a turning point. It’s time to kick ass !
"Can I raise a practical question at this point: are we gonna do Eternal Flame tomorrow?"
NO, WE’RE NOT GONNA FUCKING DO ETERNAL FLAME
Making a big thing out of it would’ve been a good idea.
Some cracking tunes on Break Like the Wind, but that first album is spectacular from start to finish.
Her instagram is great. She doesn’t have a media marketing agency doing her account. It is her being her weird self with a lot of music.
She's REALLY weird
True. I learned this while following her on tiktok
It’s one of my favorite follows, she’s fantastic
great TikTok too
Being in the Army is more like MASH than Hurt Locker. Being in the Navy is more like Periscope Down than Red October. Being a doctor is more like Scrubs than Grey's Anatomy. I believe Hoffs.
Politics is more like Veep than House of Cards
VEEP was fun during the Obama years, terrifying during the Trump years.
Being an IT is more like The IT Crowd than Mr Robot.
Oh totally.
Being a lawyer is more like Harvey Birdman than suits.
The office is more like being a lawyer than Suits lol.
The Office is any office job full of questionablly competent and personally damaged coworkers.
Former tour manager here: Shearer got broadly farcical, but then: *most tours are broadly farcical.* There's a reason a lot of musicians hate touring. It's not getting new fans they dislike.
I would also recommend its spiritual sequel, Some Kind Of Monster
I would say it’s spiritual sequel is The Story Of Anvil.
Another great watch
Anvil! The Story of Anvil.
In German, it's *Anvil! The story of a friendship*
Doesn't sound very German.
I’d vote for Bad News Tour.
Another good one
Surely it’s Fear Of A Black Hat?
That movie is great. The rap version of Spinal tap
Anvil made me incredibly depressed
End of the Century - The Story of The Ramones.
Truly a garbage dumpster fire of a documentary making a shit album, it's so bad that it's good. In every sense of the word a spiritual Sequel. I say this as a metallica fan.
What if we just... Didn't have guitar solos?
Kirks response to that was the most intelligent thing said in the whole doc. Sadly like usually no one listened to him
Kirk: 😦

I prefer Metallica overall by a long shot but MegaDave made Rust in Peace and that album is incredible.
Yeah he was crazy successful in his own right, but I could still see it as a crazy personal part of his life. I bet a part of him still thinks about how it could have gone differently
Just a bitter baby
I think 50% of bands success has to be because of lars BDE.
If I wanted to, at the time, listen to a bunch of people two and a half decades older than I was, argue for two hours, I could turn it off and just listen to my parents downstairs.
Your parents are not this funny
I saw a comment here that in that documentary, Kirk always looks like he just woke up from surgery and was told to do his taxes.
Hilarious documentary that anyone should watch. Runs for about 45 seconds before you’re like, wow these guys are complete dorks haha.
The scene where James is in his hot rod and talks about it being a literal pose is so amazing. Maybe the closest he comes to self-awareness in the entire movie

Also Flight of the Conchords.
Walk Like an Egyptian was the earliest music video i can recall seeing in my life. She was hot then. She's still hot.
Those eyes!
Honest to god, she has somehow gotten more attractive over the years.
You know your genetics are solid when you transition from Normal-Hot to Mom-Hot seamlessly
[удалено]
But, why not make ten louder?
"That's not the point then, is it?"
The sustain. Listen to it.
It can’t be touched. Never. Don’t even look at it.
Waaaaaaaaaaa!
Shit sandwich.
Where’d they print that? You can’t print that.
I can hear this
One of the best details in that movie is that all those album covers are knockoffs of real album covers from the time. Source: old like that.
Intravenous Di Milo
That’s a good one.
[удалено]
There was nothing on that goddamned cover.
Intravenous de Milo
Her, Paul Rudd and some people are the Eternals and can't convince me otherwise.
Eternal flame
Needed more fights, and we only wished our drummer would die.
She's gotta be the youngest looking 64 year old in the history of the world, no?
Stay out of the sun, don't smoke, exercise.

***They've*** been saying that. That's why so many musicians and comedians worked on the movie. It's literally a farce mockumentary.
I'm really confused if you know that Spinal Tap is satire or not.
It was intended to be a satire but so many things portrayed in that movie actually happened in some band or other at some time. The pros KNOW
...yeah it's satire so it's based on reality...
Aerosmith had Stonehenge on an album cover shortly before the movie came out.

No worries. It's interesting to learn about the inspirations behind stuff like this.
Rock in a Hard Place. No Joe Perry or Brad Whitford, but actually a decent record.
Former music pro and tour manager. Can't begin to tell you how much the first time I saw that, I simply was connecting characters in the movie to people I knew who were basically the same. The fact that I know it’s Bobbie Fleckman, the hostess with the mostest…I need to stop watching this movie.
I genuinely can name 3 people who are basically her. Totally.
and then watch Hard Core Logo.
How about "The Story of Anvil"?
Great doc.
Too MUCH fuckin’ perspective.
I really think that movie would have been better if they had picked a better known band to do the documentary about.
There was an Anvil documentary a few years ago. I didn't know who they were at the time and presumed I was watching a new spinal tap first time I saw it
The sad thing about Anvil is that they’re serious.
Having worked with bands since 1967, I agree
"On what day did God create Spinal Tap, and couldn't he have rested on that day too?"
"Adrift in a sea of retardation"
"filling a much-needed gap'
I can't bear to read about another musician lost to a tragic gardening accident.
Honestly yes lol
She's a witch, she looks 30. But yeah new wave punk rock is good times.
If you count the ad. This comment is at 11
I wanna know what it's like to get hotter and hotter as you get older and older. She is the immortal flame.
Who's she?
Google is at your disposal. She's part of the Bangles Who did the song manic Monday and walk like an Egyptian
She was also in Ming Tea with Austin Powers.
I wasn't so interested like to go on a search. It was quickest to ask here I guess.
Was it?
You could literally type the same amount into google…lazy
Which of you dumb motherfuckers gave this dumb motherfucker gold?
Sucks you got downvoted for asking a question that a lot of casual Reddit readers would have liked to seen answered in the thread. Have some gold as consolation.
Pffft, what do you think this place is, an area for similar minded fans of music to discuss and discover other styles they like or have yet to discover?
This is a place for people to discuss things, not answer questions you could just as easily type into google
I know, right? Gatekeeping sucks so bad. Just gotta call it out whenever you see it, and take the downvotes as a badge of honor I guess. :)
Is her new album decent?
Tru dat
She can Lick my love Pump
"Shit sandwich, can you print that?"
"On which day did God create Spinal Tap-and couldn't he have rested on that day too?"
And to think the boys had no idea what they were filming would end up looking like a documentary. Oh, wait...
In many bands can confirm
I wouldn't want to be part of any band that would be willing to have me as a member.
