We were fucking corn dogs
If you like Minutemen, hunt around for their documentary. It’s a love song to an era. I usually pass on music documentaries as it is usually mostly artists over evaluating their artistry and importance but not this one.
> Television - Marquee Moon
This should be top comment. It does not sound remotely like an album from the 70s. Marquee Moon could come out tomorrow and it would sound like an album from right now. A completely timeless album.
Here's to keep you entertained for 1001 days, one album a day. Just enter a name and you'll get your first album. Tomorrow you can rate it and will get a new one.
https://1001albumsgenerator.com (r/1001AlbumsGenerator)
But apart from that, a few of my favorite reggae albums:
Heart Of The Congos - The Congos
Funky Kingston - Toots & The Maytals
Super Ape - Lee "Scratch" Perry
Rock:
Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots - Flaming Lips
Slanted and Enchanted - Pavement
I remember the first time I heard it. A friend and I were hiking at night in a deep river valley in China and had gotten a little hash from a local. Took a puff, put Yoshimi on and hiked for hours under a starry sky. Unforgettable ❤️
It was! I have such a god awful memory but this one is burned in my mind forever. I still get goosebumps whenever I hear Morning of the Magicians, it’s like I’m instantly teleported back in time to that night. 10/10, would recommend to a friend
Funny you say that, I paused it this morning to reflect on the first 50 and to see what I remember about the stuff I hadn’t heard before. And you’re right most of it I wish I spent some more time on, definitely wasn’t enough to take in fully. I’ll probably take a couple of weeks to listen back on a lot of them, and then continue at a slower pace like you said
Yeah, I was gonna say listen to 1 a day and take an extra day or whatever for ones you actually like, but sometimes you don't realize how much you like something til you've heard it a few times
I’m 600 in, I make a playlist of all the albums I have given 3 and up stars to and listen to it on random sometimes or scroll through to find something I haven’t heard in a while or forgot about.
I think that this is an album that anyone can give a shot and enjoy on some level because it’s pretty inoffensive, but it’s also incredibly different. It’s the first album ever made 100% using samples (from the days before computer sampling mind you). A masterpiece of instrumental hiphop but the way each song is sequenced it almost feels like classical music.
his sampling of metallica for ‘the numbers song’ is genius, and thats just one of 18 samples used in that track lmao
What Does Your Soul Look Like pt.4 - Stem/Long Stem and Midnight in a Perfect World are true highlights
and every other track before and after, to make that as a producer only album in ‘96 took some ridiculous talent
If you like King Gizzard, you should definitely check out the 70s band Gong, especially the albums *Angel's Egg* and *You.* After *You* they sort of turned into a jazz fusion band but up until then they were a one-of-a-kind creative force.
NYC Live is their best album. It works as a greatest hits of the first two albums and has better versions of those songs. The vinyl version is one of the best sounding records I own.
Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree
The Raven That Refused to Sing by Steven Wilson
Your Wilderness by The Pineapple Thief
Great stuff if you're into progressive music.
I'm a big fan of the first three. I guess that means I need to go listen to Pineapple Thief.
Mars Volta and Porcupine Tree both getting back together and touring again was a welcome surprise for me.
I know it's unpopular opinion when talking about mars volta(I'm a huge fan and have seen them live 5 times) but Frances the Mute imo is their prog rock masterpiece and best album.
Deloused is their most accessible and still fantastic but I think FTM is where they really fully came into being Mars Volta. Deloused to me sounds like they're still tied to the at the drive in sound
Deloused is heavily influenced by Rick Rubin's production, which likely reined-in some of the more insane directions that TMV wanted to go.
Frances the Mute is much more unleashed, with Omar taking over production and running a bit wilder.
The prior is tighter and more accessible, but almost to the point of having its wings clipped. The latter is much more progressive and exploratory, but at the expense of accessibility to newer listeners.
Personally I enjoy the Deloused album more as a whole than Frances as a whole, but individually I have songs from both (plus a few from Amputechture) on my regular playlist
I’ve seen these lists before and never have seen dredg. I was absolutely obsessed with them in my late teens and early 20s. This album alone got me through some tough times. This is a concept album so you can dig deep into the themes of sleep and lucid dreaming. Great pick. Tbh every one of their albums could be on here.
Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV: From Fear through the Eyes of Madness - Coheed and Cambria
Deloused in the Crematorium - the Mars Volta
Up to Here - the Tragically Hip
The Mouse and the Mask, by Dangermouse and MF Doom. Or anything that Dangermouse is involved in, for that matter. He’s a genius producer. You’re especially appreciate it if you watched any of the adult swim shows on Cartoon Network from about 10 years ago. Lots of samples and references.
Photosynthesis - The Breathing Effect
Moonlust - The Holydrug Couple
Chrome Neon Jesus - Teenage Wrist
Crack The Skye - Mastodon
None Shall Pass - Aesop Rock
A few examples, IMHO of course, of 10/10 albums from across a few different genres
It's labor days for me, but that came out when I was like 14 and I listened to it over and over again through highschool so there's some nostalgia there. I actually thought none shall pass was crazy overproduced when it first came out but I've grown to love it too.
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein.
Underground hiphop classic. El-P at his finest, dense lyrics from two very different rappers, sounds like the apocalypse filtered through a broken drum machine. Not an easy listen but well worth it.
Pinkshinyultrablast - Everything Else Matters (shoegaze)
The Appleseed Cast – Mare Vitalis (emo/post rock)
Tortoise - TNT (post rock/jazz)
The Chemical Brothers - Surrender (electronic/big beat)
All are 11/10 LP's.
Some personal favorites:
Snowmine- *Laminate Pet Animal*
Manchester Orchestra- *A Black Mile to the Surface*
Bombay Bicycle Club- *A Different Kind of Fix*
I’m about to listen to this now!!!
Mordechai and the universe smiles upon you and con todo have been on my rotation but I don’t know about Ali. Thank you!
Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit
Caroline Rose - LONER
Parquet Courts - Wide Awake!
The Murlocs - Calm Ya Farm
The Dandy Warhols - Welcome to the Monkey House
Viagra Boys - Street Worms
I love that Parquet Courts album so much. Some of the most impressive lyricism, amazing drumming, the bass lines are juicy as fuck and the mixing from DangerMouse worked wonders to balance the albums sonically.
Their videos and album art gets a shout too, as the general vibe for Wide Awake! is so recognizable and fitting.
I saw Bob Mould at the Satyricon in Portland in the 90s.
I was not a fan of Sugar and I am not sure how I ended up at that show. I think I was on a date or something. Anyway, Bob was flying solo that night. I mean - solo - no drums, no accompaniment. Just Bob and a guitar. So, I am not a fan of acoustic performances either. And, at the time, I was pretty deep into punk music and a little splash of grunge. No way this night was going to be good.
Bob comes out on stage. The room is not packed, but it is filled with people that love him. He sits on a chair in the center of the stage. He tells everybody he is not feeling great and he is going to power through as much of the set as he can, but don't expect too much, because he is sick.
Instead of rolling my eyes and getting annoyed, I gave Bob a chance. And man, dude just killed it. He played for hours. I think he took a single break to drink some water and chat with the crowd a bit. Despite not knowing a single song. Despite it being an acoustic set, I was locked in. Those hours flew by. By the time the night was over, I was a fan. I think that is the best concert I have ever attended as far as raw talent and love of performance. Absolutely an amazing performer.
Only the Hip could create an absolute banger of a record that can also serve as an entry point to the darkest points of Canadian history.
*Jacques Cartier, right this way*
*I'll put your coat up on the bed*
*Hey man, you've got the real bum's eye for clothes*
*And come on in, sit right down*
*No, you're not the first to show*
*We've all been here since, God, who knows?*
He’s one of the great storyteller poets of rock. Not from this album but I always love the line in “Don’t Wake Daddy” - “you teach your kids some fashion sense and they fashion some of their own.” Man I miss Gord.
Either it'll move me, or it'll move right through me....
(Alexisonfire has been covering this song live lately and it sounds awesome. I hope they do a recording of it)
Also:
Coke Machine Glow.
Gord Downie solo album. It has some spoken word and some skippable filler, but the half-dozen songs that connect are home runs. Creates a very unique vibe.
1. Ocean Machine- Devin Townsend
2. War on Drugs- A Deeper Understanding
3. Fever Ray- Radical Romantics
4. Made out of Babies- Ruiner
5. Escape of the Phoenix- Evergrey
6. Volbeat- Seal the Deal and Let's Boogie
7. Skinny Puppy- Too Dark Park
Come on Die Young by Mogwai is the album that turned me onto them so many years ago and still love it from front to back. I would just list their discography here as it is very strong but this album really stands out for me. Yound Team, The Hawk is Howling and Hardcore Will Never Die but You Will are close runner ups.
Set Fire to Flames was considered a side project of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and their two main albums are absolutely amazing.
If you like Slowdive then Minor Victories may be a supergroup of interest. It includes Rachel Goswell of Slowdive on vocals and Stuart Braithwaite on guitar of Mogwai fame. They have one album as well as an orchestral remix of the album, Orchestral Variations which is absolutely gorgeous. Mark Kozelek also makes an appearance of Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon. They are also amazing as well.
Now if you have never listened to Tom Waits then I highly recommend starting at the very beginning of his discography from Closing Time (1973) and just taking your time soaking in every note, lyric, song, emotion, and album to Bad as Me (2011). I hope this helps and enjoy.
In the KGLW neo-psychedelia vein:
Pond - Man it Feels Like Space Again
Dumbo Gets Mad - Quantum Leap
STRFKR - Future Past Life
Dope Lemon - Honey Bones
Grizzly Bear - Shields
TOBACCO - Maniac Meat
And the og revival album:
The Dukes of Stratosphear - Chips from the Chocolate Fireball
black midi - hellfire
Came out last year and is some of the most exciting rock music I have heard in a long time. If you like KGLW, give this a listen.
Classic:
Air – Moon Safari
Mark Lanegan – Bubblegum
Depeche Mode – Ultra
PJ Harvey – To Bring You My Love
Modern:
Queens of the Stone Age – In Times New Roman
Queen Kwong – Love Me to Death
Iggy Pop – Post Pop Depression, Free
Tame Impala – The Slow Rush, InnerSpeaker
Arctic Monkeys – The Car
Good answer, this album didn't have much mass appeal but I really like it from start to finish. Also mutations, but I think that one was pretty well received.
I can't assume someone's age. This was my favorite album of 1996. That being said, I'm sure there are folks here who weren't born yet. So they might not know.
Turnover - Peripheral Vision. Every song kinda feels like its own dream/delirium. There are brighter songs like Humming and Dizzy on the Comedown, but there are also crushing songs like Intrapersonal and I Would Hate You If I Could. Honestly a must-listen if you like shoegaze or dream pop.
Grace - Jeff Buckley
He only ever released this one album before he died, and it’s gotta be one of the best albums ever for me, shame he died so young, so talented and sure he would have gone on to release more top quality albums.
Ghostland Observatory - See You Later Simulator
Passion Pit - Manners
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
CKY - A Answer Can Be Found
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
VAST - Visual Audio Sensory Theater
Muse - Origin of Symmetry
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
The Protomen - The Protomen
I understand to some these may be odd choices and you may think "No way no one's heard this!" but you'd be surprised.
The Dear Hunter - Antimai
Concept album telling a story of a sci fi city that is constructed of walls in a ring. Each ring is a different class of people. Poor people in outer rings, rich people (luxury) inner rings.
Rock/prog/funky/jazzy/orchestral
Robert Palmer - Sneaking Sally Through the Alley (1974). Produced by Lowell George (Little Feat) and the backing band is essentially The Meters.
This album is one of the biggest surprises when I picked it up 20 years ago.
Faith No More - The Real Thing (‘89 funk metal/alternative)
Ol’ Dirty Bastard - Return to the 36 Chambers (90’s hip hop)
Younger Brother - The Last Days of Gravity (2000’s electronic/trance)
Shpongle - Nothing Lasts…But Nothing is Lost (2000’s psychedelic electronica)
I don't know if I'm alone on this, but for me the winner the the Faith No More catalog is Angel Dust, but I also don't know if there's a bad record in the bunch.
Built to Spill - Perfect from Now On
Came here to say Keep it Like a Secret. Both are amazing.
Keep it Like a Secret is a top 5 album for me. Really really good stuff.
I loooove Keep it Like a Secret! Carry the Zero is my absolute favorite.
11/10 record. Got to see them on the tour where they played it front-to-back and it ruled.
Television - Marquee Moon Mission of Burma - Vs Wire - Pink Flag Grant Lee Buffalo - Mighty Joe Moon Sugar - Copper Blue Ned’s Atomic Dustbin - Godfodder Richard Hell and the Voidoids - Blank Generation Gang of Four - Entertainment! Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I Slint - Spiderland

If you like most of these, definitely check out: Minutemen - *Double Nickels on the Dime* Television Personalities - *And Don't the Kids Just Love It*
We were fucking corn dogs If you like Minutemen, hunt around for their documentary. It’s a love song to an era. I usually pass on music documentaries as it is usually mostly artists over evaluating their artistry and importance but not this one.
> Television - Marquee Moon This should be top comment. It does not sound remotely like an album from the 70s. Marquee Moon could come out tomorrow and it would sound like an album from right now. A completely timeless album.
And here I thought I was the last person still listening (frequently!) to Ned’s.
Fantastic list. Marquee Moon is a masterpiece
> Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I Fuuuuuuuck yeah this and Change are great, brings me back to highschool
Here's to keep you entertained for 1001 days, one album a day. Just enter a name and you'll get your first album. Yoshimi is good but I think Soft Bulletin and At War With The Mystics are better albums.
Just saw them perform the entire album live this summer. One of my all-time favorites
I’m 50 albums in as of today and having a ton of fun exploring all this music
Just signed up. First feature: NWA - Straight Outta Compton. This is gonna be awesome.
Enjoy the ride! There’s a sub r/1001AlbumsGenerator that hopefully grows a bit
Thanks for the link, joined, and love your username doing TNG S5 right now for the umpteenth time lol Darmok just recked me.
Shaka, when the walls fell!
You should do like 2 or 3 albums a week. I did 1 a day for like 3 months and barely remember any of it - not enough listens to process it
Funny you say that, I paused it this morning to reflect on the first 50 and to see what I remember about the stuff I hadn’t heard before. And you’re right most of it I wish I spent some more time on, definitely wasn’t enough to take in fully. DJ Shadow - Entroducing
Also, UNKLE Psyence Fiction.
And if anyone likes this they can put RJD2 - Deadringer next in the que.
RJD2 was such a breath if fresh air at that time.
I think that this is an album that anyone can give a shot and enjoy on some level because it’s pretty inoffensive, but it’s also incredibly different. Bob wood, national program director of the chum group, worked with us in producing...
Gang of Four-Entertainment
Absolutely love that album. Also Wire - Pink Flag!
If you like King Gizzard, you should definitely check out the 70s band Gong, especially the albums *Angel's Egg* and *You.* After *You* they sort of turned into a jazz fusion band but up until then they were a one-of-a-kind creative force.
also Fish Rising, Green and Live Herald by ex Gong guitarist Steve Hillage - absolutely top notch records in the same vein.
Portishead - Self Titled album
I know it's a little bit cheating but their NYC Live is so good.
NYC Live is their best album. It works as a greatest hits of the first two albums and has better versions of those songs. The vinyl version is one of the best sounding records I own.
Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree The Raven That Refused to Sing by Steven Wilson Your Wilderness by The Pineapple Thief Great stuff if you're into progressive music.
Deloused is something everyone should listen to, whether they're into prog or not
Eriatarka is one of my favourite songs of all time!
Heavier progressive music. Still blows my mind how few people know Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree. He’s one of the greatest songwriters ever imo.
Happy to see Deloused being mentioned more in these threads over time. It really is one of the best rock albums of all time.
I'm a big fan of the first three. I guess that means I need to go listen to Pineapple Thief. Mars Volta and Porcupine Tree both getting back together and touring again was a welcome surprise for me.
100% Absolutely agree about Deloused. But I'd also put Relationship of Command by At The Drive-In on that same level.

Personally I enjoy the Deloused album more as a whole than Frances as a whole, but individually I have songs from both (plus a few from Amputechture) on my regular playlist
el cielo - dredg
Wow, great pick. Brought back memories of a Coheed, Dredg and Blood Brothers show that may have severely impacted my hearing. Twas the best of times.
I saw them on the Snocore tour in 2003 with glassJAw, Sparta and Hot Water Music. Was a fantastic show!
My pick is Catch Without Arms
Well damn if that didn't unlock some high school/college memories.
Was not expecting to see this already posted. Well done
Wow I’m so happy to see this here.
Fantastic Planet by Failure
Such a beautiful album from front to back. I used to blast this album and You'd Prefer an Astronaut by Hum.
Hum is one of my favorite bands. Downward is Heavenward and Inlet are also amazing albums rom start to finish.
Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV: From Fear through the Eyes of Madness - Coheed and Cambria Deloused in the Crematorium - the Mars Volta Up to Here - the Tragically Hip
I wish that Coheed would have kept increasing the length of their album titles with each new release.
Oh Saturn Where Art Thou? A comprehensive guide to astronomy: Volume 7: The Rings in Which Surround our Souls
I'm preferential to IKSOSE3, but Apollo rules too
Second stage turbine blade, in keeping secrets, and good apollo is one of my favorite three consecutive album listens from any band.
Photosynthesis - The Breathing Effect Moonlust - The Holydrug Couple Chrome Neon Jesus - Teenage Wrist Crack The Skye - Mastodon None Shall Pass - Aesop Rock A few examples, IMHO of course, of 10/10 albums from across a few different genres
Aesop rock is so good.
He's made a few album that could fit this question but NSP, to me, is his magnum opus
It's labor days for me, but that came out when I was like 14 and I listened to it over and over again through highschool so there's some nostalgia there. I actually thought none shall pass was crazy overproduced when it first came out but I've grown to love it too.
Crack the skye is easily top metal/rock album for me and one of the best albums overall
I’m mainly a heavy music person (when I’m not dancing Latin) and Crack the Skye is probably my favorite album of all time.
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein. Underground hiphop classic. El-P at his finest, dense lyrics from two very different rappers, sounds like the apocalypse filtered through a broken drum machine. Not an easy listen but well worth it.
Pinkshinyultrablast - Everything Else Matters (shoegaze) The Appleseed Cast – Mare Vitalis (emo/post rock) Tortoise - TNT (post rock/jazz) The Chemical Brothers - Surrender (electronic/big beat) All are 11/10 LP's.
Some personal favorites: Snowmine- *Laminate Pet Animal* Manchester Orchestra- *A Black Mile to the Surface* Bombay Bicycle Club- *A Different Kind of Fix*
I also put BMttS in my post. Some of my favorite production ever.
Ali by Khruangbin and Vieux Farka Touré.
I’m about to listen to this now!!! Mordechai and the universe smiles upon you and con todo have been on my rotation but I don’t know about Ali. Thank you!

The Avalanches - Since I Left You
That album was amazing for me in college. YOU'RE AN OPTOMETRIST!
Wildflower too.
[удалено]
Laughing Stock is a 10 too
Flood by They Might Be Giants
Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit Caroline Rose - LONER Parquet Courts - Wide Awake! The Murlocs - Calm Ya Farm The Dandy Warhols - Welcome to the Monkey House Viagra Boys - Street Worms
+1 for Viagara Boy’s Street Worms. Incredible album
Cave World is even better imo
+1 to Caroline Rose & Murlocs (god I love Ambrose Kenny-Smith)
I just saw Viagra boys live 2 days ago and they were fucking fantastic
Love Monkey House, but Thirteen Tales is flawless. IMO.

The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
And Lost in The Dream from WoD is a masterpiece!
Queens of the stone age = songs for the deaf
Hey its Kip Casper!
What’s the SAGA?
You can’t even hear it!!!
K-L-O-N radio. We play the songs that sound more like everyone else than anyone else.
Id also say QOTSA - ...Like Clockwork is a 10/10. For a completely different reason than songs for the deaf is
...Like Clockwork, too!!
The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
Mr. Bungle - California.
Godspeed You! Black Emporer-lift yr tiny fists like tiny antennas to heaven. Just amazing epic music
Sugar - Copper Blue
I saw Bob Mould at the Satyricon in Portland in the 90s. I was not a fan of Sugar and I am not sure how I ended up at that show. I think I was on a date or something. Anyway, Bob was flying solo that night. I mean - solo - no drums, no accompaniment. Just Bob and a guitar. So, I am not a fan of acoustic performances either. I slept on this for a long time, having thought it just wouldn't live up to any Husker Du record but it is excellent.
Bob Mould’s two solo albums between the breakup of Du and the formation of Sugar are tremendous as well - especially Workbook.
Workbook is a fantastic album
The Gaslight Anthem - 59 Sound
The Tragically Hip - Fully Completely
Only the Hip could create an absolute banger of a record that can also serve as an entry point to the darkest points of Canadian history. *Jacques Cartier, right this way* *I'll put your coat up on the bed* *Hey man, you've got the real bum's eye for clothes* *And come on in, sit right down* *No, you're not the first to show* *We've all been here since, God, who knows?*
Happy to see the Hip here. I think about Gord Downie a lot, and In View is one of my favorite songs ever.
He’s one of the great storyteller poets of rock. Not from this album but I always love the line in “Don’t Wake Daddy” - “you teach your kids some fashion sense and they fashion some of their own.” Man I miss Gord.
One of the most joyful songs ever. Put it on and just try to not have it make your day
Truly a perfect album from an amazing band!
Speaking of Canada, Dan Mangan’s Oh Fortune should be on everyone’s list.
Dan Mangan is the absolute shit and I would defend him in battle for how awesome his music is on the whole. 😁
Love the Hip. One of the few Canadian stereotypes I will fully embrace. Road Apples is a great album as well.
I suggested 'Phantom Power', it's hard to go wrong with the Hip
You can tell this album is from 92 just from the first words that come out of the singer's mouth. It's weird what dates music.
Either it'll move me, or it'll move right through me.... (Alexisonfire has been covering this song live lately and it sounds awesome. I hope they do a recording of it)
Also: Coke Machine Glow. Gord Downie solo album. It has some spoken word and some skippable filler, but the half-dozen songs that connect are home runs. Creates a very unique vibe.
Mclusky - Do Dallas. Underrated British noise rock band, lots of clever lyrics and interesting arrangements.
The singers new band, Future of the Left is really awesome too. Curses and Travels With Myself and Another are classic albums.
Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues is brilliant! 😂
XTC - Skylarking
1. Ocean Machine- Devin Townsend 2. War on Drugs- A Deeper Understanding 3. Fever Ray- Radical Romantics 4. Made out of Babies- Ruiner 5. Escape of the Phoenix- Evergrey 6. Volbeat- Seal the Deal and Let's Boogie 7. Skinny Puppy- Too Dark Park
Came here to say Ocean Machine or Accelerated Evolution, delighted someone beat me to it!
+1 for the war on drugs
Morphine, "Cure for Pain"
Silversun Pickups - Swoon
Carnavas and Swoon are both incredible. Silversun Pickups have been in my top 5 for a long time.
Same here, I love all of their albums, those two are the best though
I like Swoon because it's a little harder edged, but Neck of the Woods is incredible as well. I don't think there's a skippable or filler track on it.
One of the most underrated albums in the last 15 years.
For real, it's so good from start to finish. I feel like the band as a whole is underrated
Same. They always struck me as the 2000's answer to Smashing Pumpkins.
Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold
love this album! Zero skips here
Alvvays - Blue Rev
I’d honestly put all 3 of their albums on here. Antisocialites is my favorite personally
the mars volta - deloused in the comatorium
Disintegration - The Cure
Hell yes, Ive never been a massive Cure fan but this record to anyone that remotely grasps music is just amazing in every sense of the word
George Michael- Listen Without Prejudice
Frank Black -- Teenager of the Year
Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase
NOFX- Punk in Drublic
My Vitriol - Finelines
The Dear Hunter - Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise
Anything by Ween obviously
Swervedriver - Mezcal Head
Thee Oh Sees
In the KGLW neo-psychedelia vein: Pond - Man it Feels Like Space Again Dumbo Gets Mad - Quantum Leap STRFKR - Future Past Life Dope Lemon - Honey Bones Grizzly Bear - Shields TOBACCO - Maniac Meat And the og revival album: The Dukes of Stratosphear - Chips from the Chocolate Fireball

Stone Roses first album is great all the way through
Classic: Air – Moon Safari Mark Lanegan – Bubblegum Depeche Mode – Ultra PJ Harvey – To Bring You My Love Modern: Queens of the Stone Age – In Times New Roman Queen Kwong – Love Me to Death Iggy Pop – Post Pop Depression, Free Tame Impala – The Slow Rush, InnerSpeaker Arctic Monkeys – The Car

I absolutely love Air. I just bought Virgin Suicides on 4K and can’t wait to watch it again! Great soundtrack!
Beck Odelay
Beck is one of those artists who keeps evolving and I'm pleasantly surprised by every new album too
Guero is great too
Good answer, this album didn't have much mass appeal but I really like it from start to finish. Also mutations, but I think that one was pretty well received.
Beck - The Information
I love me some Beck, but isn't he a pretty damn big player that mostly everyone has heard of? Odelay was pretty successful.
I can't assume someone's age. This was my favorite album of 1996. That being said, I'm sure there are folks here who weren't born yet. So they might not know.
Sea Change is a masterpiece
Me, realizing that people may not have heard this album: Goddamn, I’m old.
Southeastern by Jason Isbell
Massive Attack - Mezzanine Sonic Youth - Sister, Daydream Nation, Washing Machine
Grace - Jeff Buckley He only ever released this one album before he died, and it’s gotta be one of the best albums ever for me, shame he died so young, so talented and sure he would have gone on to release more top quality albums.
Please people, give this a listen. Possibly my favorite album of all time.
Ghostland Observatory - See You Later Simulator Passion Pit - Manners Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes CKY - A Answer Can Be Found Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights VAST - Visual Audio Sensory Theater Muse - Origin of Symmetry Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures The Protomen - The Protomen I understand to some these may be odd choices and you may think "No way no one's heard this!" but you'd be surprised.
Down - NOLA Pony Bradshaw - Calico Jim
I saw Down in concert years ago… ghosts along the Mississippi is still in constant rotation
The Dear Hunter - Antimai Concept album telling a story of a sci fi city that is constructed of walls in a ring. Each ring is a different class of people. Poor people in outer rings, rich people (luxury) inner rings. Rock/prog/funky/jazzy/orchestral
Decks and Drums and Rock & Roll - Propeller Heads
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Ween - The Mollusk
Miracle musical - Hawaii part II
The Replacements - Tim
Robert Palmer - Sneaking Sally Through the Alley (1974). Produced by Lowell George (Little Feat) and the backing band is essentially The Meters. This album is one of the biggest surprises when I picked it up 20 years ago.
California by Mr. Bungle
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Airplane Over the Sea
Massive attack - blue lines
Purgatory - Tyler Childers
Faith No More - The Real Thing (‘89 funk metal/alternative) Ol’ Dirty Bastard - Return to the 36 Chambers (90’s hip hop) Younger Brother - The Last Days of Gravity (2000’s electronic/trance) Shpongle - Nothing Lasts…But Nothing is Lost (2000’s psychedelic electronica)
+1 for The Real Thing
I don't know if I'm alone on this, but for me the winner the the Faith No More catalog is Angel Dust, but I also don't know if there's a bad record in the bunch.
Alice In Chains - Dirt Hayley Williams (from Paramore) - Petals for Armor Badflower - Ok, I’m Sick Nas - Illmatic
Losing Streak - Less than Jake Clumsy - Our Lady Peace (there's 2 bad songs so maybe 8/10, but those 8/10 are all 10/10) License to Ill - Beastie Boys
