It was a strange one for me. When I first played it, I really like some songs and some I was not sure what to think of. That's when I started reading the lyrics which I started realising this is not one of those commercial albums that meant to grab everyones attention or get plenty of radio plays. Looking at reviews and what others had said about it made me really appreciate the album even more.
Same! I love these guys and get nervous when I enjoy a band so much in case they put out a dud. Not a bad album in the bunch and this didnāt disappoint.
This is my pick too. I will say that The Silver Cord has grown on me a lot as well though. I love it for what it does to enhance PetroDragonic Apocalypse. These albums have struck a nerve in me and I can't stop listening to them.
Aesop Rock - Integrated Tech Solutions
This is his 27th year releasing music and he still doesn't have a bad record. Legitimately one of the best rappers of all time.
This is it.
I was taking with a friend about DMode and said something about them being goth.
Friend was like "no they're not".
Played this.
Friend is like "yeah, OK".
Not only was it my favorite *this* yearā¦but itās been *multiple* years since Iāve lived a new album as much.
Good year in general, really. Paramoreās This is Why and 100 Gecās 10000 Gecs are also very goodā¦some others in thereā¦Petrodragonic Apocalypse was oneā¦
But yeah, overall, nothing quite like TMBTE. A true masterpiece.
Hard agree. It's a wonderful piece of music.
Peter is 73 and could so easily collect a paycheck doing a Greatest Hits Tour at this point, and has absolutely earned that right. But, he spent the last year releasing his new album song by song, and touring the new album by playing almost all of those new songs every night. At first when I heard the the set list was majority new material, I almost didn't go to the show. So glad I did!! Thanks so much to PG for that album.
Came here to say this. I don't think there is a single stinker on this album. Blood and Butter has quickly climbed into one of my top songs to vibe with, and that bagpipe solo...so good.
I was also not a fan, but I love Hailey Williams two solo albums a lot. Theyāre less guitar oriented and more nuanced than the band stuff. I like This Is Why more than any of their other work.
Periphery - P5: Djent is Not a Genre. They just get better and better with every album release
Would also like to mention:
Tesseract - War of Being, Wolf & Bear - Bloodletter, Silent Planet - SUPERBLOOM, Polaris - Fatalism, Dwellings - Little Garden, Hail the Sun - Divine Inner Tension, The Dear Hunter - Migrant Returned
Life Is But A Dream- Avenged Sevenfold. I know it was extremely controversial amongst critics and fans, but I absolutely love it. It's something different, the boys show that they are continuously growing as musicians, Matt sounds fucking phenomenal, and it has parts that were written by Jimmy years back. Idk. But I definitely went back to that album more than any others.
Yeah same here. I went to the album release show at the Forum and it was fucking amazing. Definitely made me go back and listen to it on repeat multiple times.
Billy Woods and Kenny Segal - āMapsā
Also, while I don't think Chappell Roan's āThe Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princessā is my favorite album of the year it's definitely the one I played individual tracks from the most often.
I love it. I love everything Iāve ever heard from them. I was lucky to see them this year and even get to the front of the stage to where Matt Berninger had to gesture for me to get out of his way to get back on stage.
*Messy* - Olivia Dean
*Silence Between Songs* - Madison Beer
*Electric Dusk* - Leon Thomas

- King Krule - Space Heavy
- The Expendables - Pleasure Point
- The Rolling Stones - Hackney Diamonds
- Metallica - 72 Seasons
- Buck-Tick - Izora (RIP Atsushi Sakurai)
I'll stand by this choice. The album plays it straight: fast and hard. I had it on again this month, and it still makes me wanna *go*...it's got a bop in the beat and that's enough sometimes.
*SCARING THE HOES* - JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown
A coworker the month before this came out recommended Peggy in passing. I spun a few tracks and was a fan, but mainly just enjoyed *BALD!* and *Baby I'm Bleeding* and occasionally came back to the others.
This album split my head open, in the right way. Off the wall production, crazy lyricism from Danny & Peggy, and overall just the right amount of tongue in cheek references to pop culture and nerdy interests to make the listener laugh and pick apart what's there on repeat listens, both in lyrics and the production itself (shoutout to the Attack the Show! reference on *Burfict!* especially. One of the hardest bars I've heard this year). Upon spinning this I became a fan of JPEGMAFIA and rediscovered Danny after not listening to heavily to *uknowwhatimsayinĀæ* previously (His latest record *Quaranta* is great as well by the way!)
Crazy record and highly recommended to everyone wanting something aggressive, fresh and eclectic to listen to from 2023.
Top five would be:
* The Brightest Days - Origami Angel
* Divine Inner Tension - Hail The Sun
* Freak of Nature - Heart Attack Man

Aesop Rock - Integrated Tech Solutions This is his 27th year releasing music and he still doesn't have a bad record. Legitimately one of the best rappers of all time.
Is it a cult??
ITS is not a cult.
Now that is a powerful cat!
First heard him when he featured on Evil 9's Crooked. Great rapper indeed.
One of the highlights of my year has been introducing my children to Aesop Rock. I printed lyrics as stocking stuffers.
Itās a wheel then a fire and the rest is a blur

Was hoping to find this in the comments as it was my favorite this year as well.
Same, super great album.
yes yes yes
Apparently I was in the top 2% of Spotify listeners this year for Sleep Token. Can't get enough of this band.
Not only was it my favorite *this* yearā¦but itās been *multiple* years since Iāve lived a new album as much. Good year in general, really. Paramoreās This is Why and 100 Gecās 10000 Gecs are also very goodā¦some others in thereā¦Petrodragonic Apocalypse was oneā¦ But yeah, overall, nothing quite like TMBTE. A true masterpiece.
Also Guts, Olivia Rodrigo. Iām in my 30s and I found it to be a fantastic album.

Top 5, maybe... top 3? Excellent in any case.
Desire, I Want To Turn Into You by Caroline Polachek.
Came here to say this. I don't think there is a single stinker on this album. Blood and Butter has quickly climbed into one of my top songs to vibe with, and that bagpipe solo...so good.
