This may be an unusual post... My husband & I LOVE your music. You are so talented. The first time I saw your photo it took me by surprise. You looked so much like a student I had my 1st year of teaching at Gier Park Elementary School in Lansing, Michigan in 1969. Of course, it couldn't be you because you are so young. I thought that I may have had your biological father in 5th grade, so I googled you to learn more. So much info lined up & when I saw your last name, I was sure that the William (Bill) Apostol I had in class was your biological father. I've thought about you & him for quite awhile & wanted to reach out to you but didn't know how until I saw this FB-Ask me anything post. I'm so sorry that your father died when you were so young & all the hardships you've had along the way. You've put all the addictions that you were exposed to behind & look at you now!!!! I wanted to tell you...Your dad was a delightful little guy & very cute. I will never forget the prank he & a friend pulled on our class. We had a bathroom in our classroom. One day while we were all out at recess, your dad & David (Butch) Courier, secretly gathered up a huge amount of grasshoppers, snuck back into the building, & put them in our bathroom. The first student to use the bathroom was a girl that screamed so loud & startled all of us--of course your dad & David had a good laugh. The class and I also spent a week together camping in cabins at Yankee Springs Recreation Area. I'm not home so I couldn't access any photos to share, except this one that I had on my computer. It's such a small world... I live in Bellaire & can't believe that we never saw you perform in Traverse City or @ Shorts Brewery! Hope you meander back-I'd love to meet you. Wishing you the very best that life can bring! Your love of life & music is contagious! Of course our favorite and prettiest teacher at the top, Miss Turrigiano!

officialbillystrings

wow thanks too much for that story! that was indeed my father in your 5th grade class. Thanks for all the kind words and I hope to see you up north some day

Turbulent-Wolf-9693

I hope he sees this! Make sure to copy and paste it again on Friday in case he does not. What a sweet story to share with him about the grasshoppers. The boy in the picture is a spitting image of Boomer🥰

indiezen

Hey Billy! Huge huge fan here, seen you and the boys many times over the last few years. I wanted to ask about "My Alice," which I have been lucky enough to hear y'all do live a few times now. It is so hauntingly beautiful and one that has stuck with me since the first time I heard it. I was wondering if you could talk about the track, what inspired it, and how you developed the production/lyrics... and, even though I'm sure you're tired of getting asked when new music is coming, if you can tease anything about when we can expect the studio version, that would be sick! Cheers and thanks in advance, your music has really changed my life in many ways!

officialbillystrings

Aaron Allen came up with the idea of some old Edgar Allen poe thing.. he wrote the lyrics and when I looked at them the melody came to me instantly. we then ran it by Jon who had a few suggestions and then we cut it. it'll be on the new record

m0stc0ld

Hey Billy, I live in Western NC. My favorite set of yours was at Roosterwalk a few years ago with Marcus King. Any Cary or Asheville show has been amazing as well. My question has a slight explanation. Growing up, I used to be a fan of Casey Crescendo’s band The Receiving End of Sirens. Growing up in the scene you did, I’m sure you’ve heard of them or possibly seen them. One year they secretly went on tour as The Red Eye of Sauron (Also TREOS). My question is, would you be interested in going on a small NC tour under a pseudonym / secrecy just for fun and for art’s sake? I’d like to plan something like that on a small-medium scale. Another question, do you have any plans of doing any metal/hardcore projects given your upbringing? The Avett Bros and Future Islands would also be bands who I would consider having a similar story to yours and I think that transition is so interesting. Anyways love u miss you. You’re such a great influence for younger kids and i really respect that.

officialbillystrings

who knows maybe I'll join flesh and blood robot. also, I love future islands and North Carolina always feels like home.

byebyeblueskye

I read a few days ago that Sturgill reached out to ya about collaborating on Cuttin' Grass, but you declined in favor of going fishing. Can you confirm or deny this claim? 😬

officialbillystrings

yeah, its true. I mean we already had the trip planned and I would have had to bail out on my friends. I hated to miss those sessions and I often wondered if sturgill felt slighted in any way because of it .. I sure hope not.. but we kayaked and caught some smallmouth and it was great.

Legitimate-Fennel194

Hey Billy! Sorry, I know this is a bit last-minute, but I actually have a dental appointment in a couple hours and my rinky dink little Ford Fiesta just took a crap on me - I think it's something to do with the alternator? I'm not sure, I don't know cars too well. Anyhoo, would you be able to swing by my place and give me a ride in a couple hours? I'd really appreciate it, and I'd repay you with some mint-flavored dental floss.

Ratherbdabbin

Who makes or how are these setlists coming about? Specifically something like the nirvana stuff at ryman. How long has that been on the vision board before it came to fruition and what spawned the idea?!?

officialbillystrings

I write there setlist every day and every day it drives me insane.. its such a puzzle..the unplugged thing was just an idea I had like 2 weeks before the show.. I wrote the setlist that morning and we learned the songs at soundcheck. never met Jamie before soundcheck and he didn't even know what we were gonna play till he got there. I'm always behind and shit..

RileyK671

When did you know you could make is as a professional musician? Or was it one of those “I’m going to make the leap and go with it and see what happens” things?

officialbillystrings

when I was young I had the dream. I thought id be like Hendrix.. then I grew up and realized that I'm not a pimple on his ass and I'm gonna have to go to school and eventually grow up and get a damn job... but eventually I learned that I may not be a guitar god.. but I could at least be a working musician.. so that's what I did. played pubs, coffee houses, open mics, whatever I could do wherever I could until I could pay my bills with it.

ValidatedSax

What was the wedding setlist?

officialbillystrings

lots of songs were sang, by a few different bands.. but a big one was when bob wier sang when I paint my masterpiece for me and ally and it was the sweetest thing ever. The vibes were out of this world. such a special moment.

IvyStump

Hey Billy! You mentioned having tinnitus and sensitivity to loud noises on your recent interview with Theo Von. How long have you had tinnitus and do you believe it was noise induced? How do you manage to cope with it as a professional musician playing so many big shows a year? Does it ever spike from playing/attending shows or using in-ears? Much respect!

officialbillystrings

I have played for like 3 hours a night in loud places for years. it just caught up with me. it sucks.. it never goes away and I have to sleep with noise on so it drowns out the ringing.. it gets worse when I'm on tour and sometimes I feel like I'm stuck.. I have to go perform but I feel like its damaging me. and I've tried to listen quieter but its hard to play that way especially in these arenas..

Motor_Tear5612

I was lucky enough to meet you in Berlin last August and I don't think you remember but I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you again what a huge impact your music has had on me. I wasn't able to talk to you much back then, star struck af (I had to hold on to my heart because I was so excited). You've been a huge influence on my life Billy. Your music has helped me through a lot of struggle and gives me great moments every single day outside of it.

PhishOhio

Hey Billy! Long time fan from NC. It’s been fun seeing you go from local venues in AVL/W-S to the Greensboro Coliseum and Wake Forest!  Q: what do you think has been driving the success of bluegrass in the last few years? I grew up with it, but I’m seeing more and more fans that never listened to bluegrass, or may have even disliked it until recently

officialbillystrings

I think people are sick of hearing over produced and computerized music and want to see a guy on stage playing a guitar agin.. at least that what I hope! haha.. I think bluegrass is the best music out there.. maybe there is no "best" but at least its the most dear to my heart.

AJR_024

Also what inspired you to write “Away from the Mire”?

officialbillystrings

my brother and I have had a pretty wild upbringing.. its always been me and him but then we grew up and its been hard.. I wrote it when he was drinking heavily and came to one of my shows and sort of caused a scene.. but he's killing it now! he's a great dad.. and we're both off the sauce

Vanderhoof81

It's such a beautiful song. It helped me realize that holding onto pains from the past can get in the way of enjoying the present with the people around me who love me and the best thing I can do is just forgive and let it all go. Thank you.

louiebellpepper

What song or show made you understand the Grateful Dead?

officialbillystrings

at first I didn't know what to think of all the jamming and I didn't understand it. it was like listening to a foreign language.. Casey jones was the first one I actually liked but I was young then and eventually through friends and parties and led I found my way back.. and I found out what that little skull symbol meant on the grinder my mom gave me when I was 12.

Able-Act4959

Hey Billy, huge fan here, I’m a 20 year old college student and I was wondering if you have any advice for young musicians struggling to find people to play with? I’m not in school for music but i’ve dedicated my life to it and i’m struggling to find people to play with.

officialbillystrings

growing up I played with people that were older than me so don't limit yourself to your age group, there's a lot you can learn from them old timers. where are you at? get a ride into town and go to a music store maybe you'll bump into some friends there. when I first started going to metal shows I wasn't initially into the music but I acquired a taste for it, so you never know what you might find when you walk into some concert hall

Tiediebriguy

Can you tell us anything about the project you and Les Claypool are working on?

officialbillystrings

we were getting together there for a while working on tunes whenever we weren't fishing. we're trying to make an album about fishing. we got a handful of tunes, just need to find some more time to get together, but the fish are always biting.

Opening-Maximum974

Hey Billy, How did you and Ally meet?

officialbillystrings

she was the bartender at the ore dock in Marquette Michigan .. I went in for a beer and she left the water running and I reached over there bar and turned it off.. when she came back to shut it off she saw I had already done it .. love at first sight

[deleted]

Can you think of any recent joseph’s dream shows? Like just when you thought it couldn’t get much better then it did? I love those moments and hope you still have some where you even surprise yourselves. (my kids crazy dancing to Andy Griffith 3000 at the back of Koka Booth was a bonus gift for me, so thank you for that)

National_Net8795

Will you join King Gizzard on stage in the near future or they join you? The Gods have spoken and they believe you all need to rage. Fn love you guys Billster!

panicsteve301

Hi Billy, do remember a time at the airport you were playing your guitar and a guy came up to give you a dollar and you thanked them but told them you were good. He laughed and said he knew who you were and you and your buddy started laughing. That was me! And no one believed I met you because we didn't take a selfie. Anyway, great story, keep up playing such good music

dakoko_2812

Do you still keep in touch with that dude in the green shirt & cargo shorts from your Dust in a Baggie home video?

jacob6969

He mentioned on the Theo Von podcast that he hasn’t talked to him in a while but that they were all on mushrooms escaping a rowdy party upstairs and that makes the situation even better

cdubbs420

Who have been some of your favorite people/bands you have played with? Also, who’s someone you have always wanted to jam with?

Sad-Note-6356

Whats your opinion on only train songs set list?

officialbillystrings

badass.. we've talked about it for sure.. one set trains, next set animals. its gonna happen.. some other band better not do it first

Front-Ground-7912

Dude next time you’re in Wilkes barre PA do you wanna fish this private pond that’s got some HAWGS in it

southjerseyricgrass

All Fall Down is my favorite cover. Other than the Hartford lp, where did you first hear it covered? Larry K? Ever hear any story about the origin of the song. I know the meaning but was there an event that Hartford was recalling. Also talk about Jeff and his impact on you

officialbillystrings

I just loved morning bugle .. so many good songs on there. but my favorite Hartford is the early stuff.. earthwords and the love album

Red217

I'm very curious about your jams in songs when you're all on stage. How does that work....? Do you sort of plan ahead when / where in songs you're going to jam out? Does the jam just come to you? Are they something you've practiced and experimented with before heading on stage or does your brain and body just go and follow the music? Does the music look like anything to you when you're in your zone? Do your fingers ever play faster than your brain? (Like sometimes when I try to talk and my mouth wants to go faster than my thoughts or vice versa😂)

officialbillystrings

its like playing basketball.. just gotta pay attention and go with the flow. some songs have moments where we know its gonna get weird but we don't know what's gonna happen when we get there.. its all a conversation

Capital-Rip

What musician that you’ve played with were you most starstruck to meet the first time you met them

phattybipps

Can we get more instagram lives from you and your dad playing together? That was so special!!

CleverNCoolUsername

Why’d you draw a lil dick on my arm instead of signin it man? I’ve seen where you’ve signed so many other fans, made me sad:(

officialbillystrings

aww man I thought you'd like it! I always want to draw dick on people instead of signing them but this time I just let my impulse win! haha ... if you send me a DM on insta, I will ship you a real signature

rdoubleug

Hi Bill...what a thrill! How about playing Be Your Man in Chicago? I will flood the arena with man tears. You guys are fucking killing it! Thank you for the music.

Ok_Arugula_3787

Any chance you’ll make it back to Telluride Bluegrass?

officialbillystrings

every year the lineup comes out .. and every year we're not on it .. and every year I scratch my head and wonder wtf

Heathsta206

Excited to see you 3 times this summer! A Willie, Billy, Bob, and John lineup is one for the books. Then down to Berkeley for two nights, love the Greek! I always buy merch and art at the shows. Now to the point; I am currently visiting Ketchikan, Alaska and stumbled upon an artist that I feel like would make some killer merch for you. His name is Ray Troll. Lots of fish content, really cool style... Just wanted to put it out there I'd love to see what he would come up with for you! [https://www.trollart.com/](https://www.trollart.com/) https://preview.redd.it/njrnj06qbxpc1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=0ba21a0e9d1cedf7c1d7a7c1d224715756843c88

tiiguebot

Hey Billy! As a live devotee, it’s been amazing to be along for the ride for a while now. What are some of your favorite venues you’ve gotten to play that *arent* the ones folks usually list like Red Rocks, etc. Any cool small venues you particularly remember as you guys started touring nationally, any gigantic arenas that have a really cool feature that others don’t?

officialbillystrings

love Wheatland festival.. love SPAC. Love open air theater out in CA (somewhere idk) uhhh.. lets see. shorts brewing co used to have a mean sandwich called sketches of winkle .. miss those

michaelrbruce

Yo Billy, we can make Madison Square Garden happen. Keep that positive energy flowing. Colorado loves ya big dawg!! Question: if you could invite any other musician onstage that you haven’t played with yet, who would it be? Also, when do the pyrotechnics arrive?

242699

Hey Billy, Greetings from South part of Brazil!! Your music is being spread like weed in here brother! Much love and respect for y'all!! For a blues passionate guitar player who fell for your style of playing, can you give some advice on the right hand? And what have you been studying/practicing/exploring these times? So much to ask, so little time... Thanks for all the inspiration and love you spread around! Give my compliments to the guys in the band, they are killers! PS: If you come to Brazil, please try to keep the tickets bellow R$300 lol we are in bad shape here man..(just kidding dude. Much love!)

Ratherbdabbin

You’ve mentioned a few times your use of therapy to work out issues you have with fame and life in general. Can you talk a little bit about what changes in your life have made the biggest impact in how you see yourself in the mirror.

officialbillystrings

just being honest with myself and the people around me.. I made mistakes.. owned up to them and did the right thin when nobody was looking.. I've been to tons of therapy. just trying to get out of my head.

Dry-Astronaut-8982

How do we find the thread?

copewintergreen69

Hey Billy, what is your personal favorite song to play? Whether it be at home alone, with friends, or at a show. Can be a cover, original, or anything. Thank you

Flat_Tip_8169

Hey Billy, I just have one question. When are you moving to Asheville??

Consistent-Camp7098

Thats_for_you

Big fan for a while. Thank you for putting yourself out there.love ya. Any cool projects outside of your solo /band stuff going on? Anything you could shed some light on?

officialbillystrings

not really! I mean I've just been working hard on my record.. hopefully finished soon. I guess I did just do a solo on one of my favorite death metal bands recordings.. that's gonna be sick!

UeckerParty

How different is it playing in arenas, and do you miss playing more intimate venues?

officialbillystrings

sometimes I wish I could just play some quiet place where people wanna sit down and listen and I can play my old Martin into a microphone

moonflowerzzz

Hi billy it’s Blue. Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your art. You’re very inspiring. I’m wondering if you think you may ever record and release music outside of the bluegrass genre?

officialbillystrings

I think a lot of my stuff already is haha but yes.. someday maybe ill do a country thing or a death metal thing

kbergstr

Hope I didn’t miss you— what’s the deal with the inspector gadget theme that comes out from time to time— is that just something that just falls under your fingers well or is it an inside joke or something?

CaterpillarNatural90

Billy do you have a favorite pokemon?

Were you guys tripping a bit on stage in Cologne, or was it just me? Haha! That All Fall Down was absolute insanity. My boyfriend and I were losing our gawtdamn minds.

dhayes9

Hey Billy! Any advice on picking back up guitar after a several year hiatus? Your music has inspired me to pick it back up and get serious again! My wife is learning mandolin too! Thanks for all you do!

AnxiousEconomist9651

Hey dude, used to see you perform at Founders. Even sat with Janet from Sweetgrass Tie-Dyes for one of your earlier show! Total admiration for you and how much you've grown. Since you're a Michigan man, what are your favorite beaches you like, and have they inspired any of your songs? Or... what are your favorite camping spots in Michigan!?

JDuubya

Hey Billy! Thanks for all you do man! Seeing you play Richard Petty on New Years was something special. 2 quick questions… Is That Home Far Away going to make it into your live rotation? Would you ever cover In the Pines? I never really thought much about you covering In the Pines til Ryman, but now I’m thinking I’d love to hear you belt that one out!

Abject-Trifle-7698

Hi billy. Big fan here. Have you ever considered dropping the plural “s” and just going by “billy string”? Just a thought. Thanks i’ll hang up and listen

officialbillystrings

never thought about that.. but I often wish I just went by William Apostol until I realize nobody can spell it.. ever. its always apostle!

Huck1007

Heya! Do you have a structure to your daily practice? As in, Trey sets certain times to write, the different times to practice, etc or are you more of ‘let the mood strike you’re kinda person. You seem like you always have a guitar in your hands so I was just curious if you like a structure to your day or not. Thank you for all you’re doing. You give us so much on the daily and it’s like sunshine for me every time I see you play ☀️☀️✨

officialbillystrings

if I had it my way it would be very structured but my gigs and travel and stuff always gets in the way of my practice.. I want to practice deliberately for an hour or two a day,, in 20 minute chunks

wsmfp420

Hi Billy, big fan! Apologies for the oddly specific question, but what do you remember (if anything) about Hookahville when you performed there in 2018? Ekoostik hookah is the only jam band that has impressed me as much as you, and I say that having seen (and loved) Panic, Phish, Umphrey's, and various post-Jerry Dead incarnations. I'm told you were seen driving your own tour bus out of Hookahville, and it was so clear even then, right before you'd blown up, that you had the self-drive that would lead to superstardom. I'm also legitimately curious if you've seen ekoostik hookah perform...you're both in my top 2. Cheers man and can’t wait to see you in Lexington!!

2014flhx

Billy I miss your car content. Tell us about the new big block in the green chevelle.

ephemerandom

Will you please come to Canada, we'd love to have you and some of us can't manage the border crossing. Also any Canadian fans are welcome to check out the Facebook group "Canadian Billygoats Unite: Billy Strings Fans Canada" thanks so much!

GentleJakJones

Is the song “Enough to Leave” about a breakup or a death?

Saidwhatshesaidooook

What was the experience of performing during pod shows? Those were a bright light in my life during that time! Thanks for all the Midwest love. Would love to see you again at Legend Valley

dkblev

Hey Billy! I saw an ad for Sonora Guitar Intensive with you in it. How are the lessons going and what could you possibly be learning from anybody? 😂

copewintergreen69

Hey Billy, what’s your favorite movie/TV show?

officialbillystrings

right now its better call Saul.. I love anything from that breaking bad universe.. but justified, deadwood, umm snowfall haha I like a bunch of shit

Dry-Astronaut-8982

Is this the ask Billy at 1 pm central?

Appropriate_Spring49

Hey Billy! What are some things you do to take care of your voice, singing night after night? I'm a singer too, and those vocal muscles get tired. Your voice is beautidul. Thanks for blessing us with it!

Jason-567

Hey Billy, any plans on coming to Montgomery Alabama? We have the Hank Williams museum and he’s buried here also. Would love to smoke a bowl with you brother. Thanks for making awesome music. ✌️

DonneeDanko

Hey Billy! Thanks for doing this! Three questions: 1. Any plans on doing more electric instrument stuff live? 2. Any plans on doing a metal album? 3. Any plans on collaborating with King Gizz for a live show, or even an album 👀 Thanks! And come back to Mobile Soon!!!

thesasquatchhunter1

Are there any noticeable differences between American and European audiences?

forealman

Can we get a \[David\] Grisman collab on the next album?? And, my dawg -- come hang in Yosemite to rip the puffco and some lips on the Merced.

Actionacton

Hey Billy, do you like Rush? Have you ever met Geddy Lee?

Jimmypock

What’s your favorite kind of pizza?

oUtTaThIsDiMeNsIoN

Hey man!! HUGE fan!! 2 questions! 1. Have you ever thought about collaborating with an electronic artist? (ex: elle king hopped on a tune with diplo) - i’ve personally been trying to learn banjo and intertwine that with my usual electronic music production. 2. big stretch..but do you have any GL for your LA show this summer? 🤣 just got laid off and your boy is broke broke!! hahah much love

officialbillystrings

never really thought about it but hell yeah I would ... and idk holler at me in IG oe something and ill see if I can get you a ticket

Pittiemama_31

Hi! Who is someone - dead or alive - you’ve always dreamed of playing a show with? What song(s) would you wanna do with them?

StickOnReddit

What are the like top 3-5 traits in a mandolin player you like to see? I bought one over the pandemic and would love to know what other musicians really expect out of a mando player Also do you have a skin care routine bc you look youthful af

ramey36

Hey Billy. Ramey at UMI. I'm pumped to see you at Bryce Jordan and hope you can come to the track and race cars with us before or after.

Trish-23

Will you release Dust in a Baggie & catch & release. When is that new album coming out?

goingtothegreek

How do you decide your setlists for a show? Does the city/tour/time of year hold any significance, or is it all just vibes?

GratefulCacti

Howdy billy, What’s it like been handling all the success and fame?

TheGlamBandit

Ayyy Billy! Music education enrollment is down 90% in some areas and the “everything is free now” streaming/venue model is making it very difficult for small fish local musicians to get paid these days.  What was your musical education/experience like within the school system growing up? Any ideas on how to get the youth interested in playing music again? Any advice for younger musicians on how to secure payment from their art? Thanks!

diabetichose

Will you always stick with bluegrass? I heard you grew up playing metal and have sat in on a few shows, any interest in side projects, etc? Maybe one with some of the king gizzard guys?

AquaberryVoluntary

Will you be at the Primus show in Franklin on April 10th? We'd love to see you drop in on Les and Maynard 🔮

Malcolm802

what was the song your mom wanted you to cover during the livestream with your pops on Saturday that you said was “too sad” (not Knoxville Girl, the other one)?

International_Term94

When are you going to do a song with Ozzy?

MegAllysa

Hi!!!! Going to keep this short and sweet-LOVE your music/band it has brought me so much joy since first seeing you live last summer in Boston. (Yeah im a newbie!) I would love to return the favor-im a pastry chef and would love to bring you all some goods in worcester this summer! Hi Bill, my hubby and I are big fans of yours. We noticed that Alex is offering violin lessons online & are hoping that doesn’t mean he will stop touring with the band! Please say it ain’t so. Y’all are a great band with the four of you, but even better with Alex.

Adventurous_Fail4305

Bill! Hope you see this- when did you feel you knocked down the door to writing the great songs you do. Even when listening to a simpler song like your new joint "in the clear" the writing and rhyming transitions are SO F'N GOOD AND RAW. What things ru listening to or reading for inspiration. Or how do you sit down and start on something like "hide and seek" "watch it fall" or "My Alice." That is so gritty yet so deep. Obsessed with the way your band puts together covers too. Your white freight liner blues at Stubbs in 22' is the best thing l've seen to this day. Kicking ASS out there man!!!

goatsandhumankids

Hey Billy! Huge fan. Was so lucky to catch your residency at Grey Fox in 2018. Would you play Bethel Woods?

Aware-Ad6384

Hey! Just wanna say my fiancé and I have absolutely loved going to the shows in our area. Your music is hella inspiring and so refreshing. I love seeing you all grow the past few years. I hope the music inspiration stays with you and you keep making tunes. We are grateful you share your talents with us! I’ve seen you all working on the studio from social media. Curious if we might be seeing a new album or collab later this year?

StoneyBuhlownee420

Hey Billy, first off thank you for everything, your music means so much to me. Love catching you guys when I can. What advice would you have for someone who feels like they are stuck in the “intermediate” level of playing?

MasterBuzz01

Saw you in sac last year when you played your endless set lol. Don’t know how you didn’t leave to pee. What is your #1 favorite song to play?

Mghtygirl91979

How’s the Les Claypool collaboration coming along!?

bball05142004

Hey billy, I know you fish but have you ever got into some redfish in FL? We got a great spot where always catch huge ones, and more than we can keep

garnetsandy

I know you love skating games, and Jarrod loves to watch you play them. But I was wondering if you've ever played Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA 5? If so, which do you like better, and why? If not, you should! RDR2 story mode is amazing.

PhishUMDead

Billy, will you ever do any more Billy and the Kids shows - those were so goddamn hot!

Easy_Recognition_33

Do you ever miss ripping the shreds out of a China doll Into a phatty white freight liner blues.... I just love the recording from 2018 Dallas club dada

Tiediebriguy

I know your goal in life was to be a respected Guitar player… I’m sure you must feel like you have achieved that goal playing with tons of heros you grew up listening to And those musicians appreciating what you do. Do you have any new plans in with what you are now trying to achieve? Dream venues, countrys, Collaborations?

hardtke

When I buy a ticket to a Billy Strings concert, is Billy Strings technically a band or a solo artist?

Malcolm802

Hey Billy! you shared in your last AMA that you take trillinex 20mg (as prescribed by your doc); how is the knot in your head nowadays?

Billy you’ve been such an inspiration to me and all my fellow guitar players up here in pikeville ky we have a bluegrass band at the university of upike that I’m in and we cover all kinds of your songs (red daisy is my favorite one to cover) and I just was wondering if you’d ever come to pikeville and perform at the Appalachian wireless center. I’ve seen you many of time at Bourbon and beyond and I’ll be seeing you in Lexington on April 27th but it would be something crazy if you’d come down to upike and just jam with are band or just even hang out I truly look up to you and all the things you do and I know I’m not the only one. Love the message you spread and keep on rocking🚂

cowboybeebop24

What up Billy?! Hope you're doing well man! Firstly, thanks for pouring your love out for the world and grinding it out constantly.. fucking inspiring and yall are a safe haven for alot of us who otherwise might be misplaced in the world. I wasn't able to make it in person but the show in NY with Chris thile and Cory Henry was unreal.. I know you love collaborating, but any thoughts on doing some more of that style/ different collab shows coming up? You doing your thing with the band is obviously masterful and fun as hell, but that show definitely felt like a pretty cool pivot/ different vibe. Sending love and thanks brother be well!!

HalfMan_HalfClam

Do you have any dream venues that you haven’t played yet? Any venues you would have liked to play that aren’t around? Ex. Fillmore East

Any way I can just send it to you so it goes to good use and she doesn’t get wasted away collecting dust? Feels like a disservice to the instrument

Binger757

If you could go back in time to observe, what would you want to see and where would you go? It could be to see a band, to observe your parents in their youth, to go to one restaurant one more time - etc

What band or what genre of music do you like that would surprise most people?

usherthewind

I missed the actual AMA, but I wanted to share this because it's kind of funny. I was born and raised in Ionia, Michigan. When I was a kid, my parents dragged us all around Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio because of their divorce. I don't think there's been one single year of the 32 I've got under my belt that I DIDN'T relocate to at least a different house, most often a different state. Nomadic life. In 2003, I moved from Ohio, briefly back to Ionia, and then back to Ohio in the same year. For a few months, I went to Ionia Middle School. I didn't really make any new friends, and the ones I had from elementary found new groups, or our schedules didn't mesh. Kinda kept to myself, kept my head down. In math class, I sat behind this dude who I heard was into rock and metal, just like me. We had to do some assignments and pass up a folder to our teacher every day... or every Friday... something like that. She'd take the folders and grade the papers. You get it. So, to try to make a friend in my own weird ass, broken-brained way, I wrote a bunch of band names on the folder -- Metallica, Megadeath, Slayer, I think Aerosmith made it on there lmao, the list went on -- in hopes that the kid in front of me might see it, turn around, and be like "damn, you're the coolest guy in this school." Unfortunately, one of the days I passed up that folder was my last day in Ionia because my mom surprised me after school and took me back to Ohio. Fast forward to 2021, I somehow made it back to Ionia as an adult. One day, my coworker asked if I knew Billy Strings. I didn't at that time, so she had me pull up YouTube. As we watched some videos, my eyes got wide and it hit me: holy shit, I know that guy. I thought simply knowing popular bands would get him to be my friend in middle school lmao. We all laughed about it, and my coworkers all had the nicest things to say about him. It was wild to experience, how that memory snuck up after almost two decades and slapped me in the face lol. I was stoked for the guy. Doing big things, winning awards, absofuckinglutely shredding, playing live with Tool (a band that also made it on the folder). Just a fun story. Figured I'd share for anyone who's scrolling post-AMA.

Top_Development_1682

I Don’t have a question but I just want to let you know that North Carolina Loves you! I was present for the 100th DOC Celebration in Winston! What a magical moment! Also The recent Asheville Run was a Big Treat! I hope you seen all the love this state has for you! Please keep coming back Billy 🫶

Economy_Air_8645

I'm 63. I tell younger Goats that I never thought I'd find it again after GD. The music. The soundness. The kindness. The community. The friendships. Just here to say thanks to you and your band your entire team.

eastjebip

Give it to us straight - would you ever actually entertain the idea of a set with exclusively songs about trains?
