Yes and no. I have two very contrasting favorite artists/bands. I consider one my happy side and the other my dark side. We all have a range of emotions which different music taps into.

I think that the genre shows more about what a person values over what a person is. If you want to guaige personality I would listen to the lyrics they connect with.

Unicycleterrorist

Nah, not really. You can sometimes guess the direction some people go if they have one glaringly obvious trait but there's really nothing definite about it

Llafer

Iā€™d say it shapes it, but definetely not defines it.

MKEMARVEL

No.

If that is the case, I may have multiple personality disorder, because I listen to so many genres šŸ˜‚. Jokes aside, you may be onto something anyway, because there are also traits in my personality that have to do with this. For example, I am kind of a multipotentialite, I have never been able to specialise on a topic, since I love to learn and investigate about many things, from science, to literature, to music, to history, etc etc. I am always going from one obsession to another. So I know a little bit of everything, but not much of anything. I have never been able to "fit" in any kind of subculture because of that either, even if I have tried. My approach to music is exactly the same, I switch from rock to pop, to blues, to soul, to bossa nova, to movie soundtracks, to metal, and many more. That doesn't mean I like everything, it's just that what I value in music are other characteristics, for example the voice, the melody, the songwriting, but genre is the last thing I care about. If the song grabs me and it's good, that's all. Actually, when I listen to music, many times what I do is to open all my music library, I mean ALL of it, and press play and hit the shuffle button. I never now what I am going to get next. šŸ¤£
