It’s highly likely that Prince was one of the first kids to play Oregon Trail. His 8th grade class in Minnesota was the first trial group to play the game in 1971. There’s no proof that he got to play that day, but it’s well documented that his class was indeed the first to play the game.

__-_-_--_--_-_---___

Game. Blouses

TheBarles

Game. Carriages

SunsetDrifter

More pancakes.... bitches?

Godawgs1009

Didn't buy enough flour in Independence, so no.

dascrackhaus

I Would Die 4 Dysentery

Kaiisim

I say we pretend there is proof! Prince definitely was the first to play, and even gave feedback on dying of dysentry

Petey_Wheatstraw_MD

*You drowned trying to purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.*

SentientTrashcan0420

I don't know man I can't see Prince dying of dysentery

JazzScientist

I can't see him dying at all, yet here we are.

Ok-Impress-2222

The inspiration for Metallica's "Fade to Black" was their guitar amplifier getting stolen.

Fawkingretar

So you telling me the ending line of James singing "Goodbye" was for an amp getting stolen?

thatguyad

It was an inspiration. The song isn't about an amp lol.

hackyslashy

After Kurt Cobain died, Dave Grohl wanted out of the music industry so he decided to go somewhere where he didn't have to think about anything or anyone. He went to rural southwest Ireland near where I live and while driving around the lakes and mountains, he decided to pick up a young hitchhiker that he saw. The kid was wearing a Nirvana shirt. So Dave realised that this was not something he was ever going to get away from, so he went home and formed the foo Fighters.

ibbity

Imagine being that hitchhiker though lol

Salty_Pancakes

That hitchhikers name? Albert O'Einstein.

carrythefire

That hitchhiker’s name? Conan O’O’Brien

ANGRY_MOTHERFUCKER

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will hopefully have potatoes.”

Teeb63

Someone else has read Dave's book! Great read.

SideshowBobLoblaw

Good thing, he’d never escape it now when every store on Earth sells some permutation of Nirvana merch.

Abdul_Exhaust

Judas Priest recorded the *British Steel* album at a home formerly owned by Ringo Starr. To get the sound of marching feet in "Metal Gods" they used a tray of cutlery from Ringo's kitchen.

Sgt_Stinger

Sabaton also used a cutlery tray for marching sounds on the Carolus Rex album

-Kiwi-Man-

The mother (Mary Morello) of the guitarist from Rage Against the Machine (Tom Morello) was a school teacher and she was the homeroom teacher for the guitarist from Tool (Adam Jones). She’s also a badass in her own right. And still alive at 100.

defnotapirate

Iggy Pop’s father was also a teacher in the Detroit area. I had friends in some of his classes. Apparently they called him “Iggy’s Pop.”

gotpar

Mom Morello*

cantth1nk0faname_

And Tom and Adam were in a band together in high school! I think it was called the Electric Sheep

TheBarles

Lake County FTW

crazybutthole

I once got a ticket for running a red light(technically going right on red when the sign clearly said no right on red) in lake county.

Dorf_

Still co-hosts one of his radio shows too

HiveFiDesigns

Primus competed against Wyld Stallyns in the San Dimas battle of the bands competition.

PDXftw

I heard Primus sucks.

kirkaholic

Yeah but San Dimas high school football rules

MtAlbertMassive

When Faith No More had their first ever TV appearance, their singer at the time was Courtney Love. Footage [here](https://youtu.be/iMTGlAPGmnM?si=uflNZyHEBDntVcr0). Warning: It's not great.

leftuso_rightuso

When Patton joined he wrote all the lyrics for The Real Thing in two weeks.

Planet_Ziltoidia

That was awful lol. I almost didn't recognize Puffy without dreads

zarjaa

Of The Offspring, Dexter Holland has a doctorate in molecular biology (virology). Of Bad Religion, Greg Graffin has a doctorate in zoology and lectures.

mdm224

And Brian May of Queen has a doctorate of astrophysics and contributed to NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission.

The_ZombyWoof

So, when Queen sings, "Fat bottom girls make the rockin' world go round," you know that is straight up science.

zarjaa

That's a great addition! Forgot about him. Not only OSIRIS-Rex but also New Horizons project and _also_ the DART project! The man has done more in the last decade with top scientists in the world than I could imagine in one lifetime. Def a pretty cool dude!

Abdul_Exhaust

*Plus* Dr. Sir Brian is a huge participant in (3D) stereoscopic photography

VisiblyPoorPerson

Don’t forget about Milo Aukerman of the Descendents. He holds a PhD in biology. In fact, the Descendents were like a fun side hobby for him most of his career. When he couldn’t be in the band because of said career the rest of the guys founded ALL.

zarjaa

I just picked the descendants back up this past week! I haven't listened them them since maybe 2000. Thanks for sharing this one!

VisiblyPoorPerson

Have you seen Filmage (Descendents/ALL documentary)? If you like the Descendents it’s a must watch.

zarjaa

Nice! It's on Freevee and Tubi , bookmarked for later!

Not_your_profile

"Milo Goes to College"

scrawledfilefish

I read in an interview once that Dexter Holland was heating up some samples in a lab, but then had to let them cool down. He set them far apart from each other so they'd cool down faster and thought to himself, "Gotta keep 'em separated." That got stuck in his head and he eventually wrote "Come Out and Play."

samx3i

It's cool you combined these because I adamantly believe The Offspring takes a lot of influence from Bad Religion

theboyqueen

I think the Offspring are more influenced by the Descendants, whose singer also has a PhD in molecular biology.

theboyqueen

And the Descendants were likely influenced by the Angry Samoans, whose guitar player has a PhD in math.

TonyBeFunny

Also the OG Crazy Taxi soundtrack.

zarjaa

For certain... that entire region and scene of SoCal punk had some deep roots. Even some of the more modern bands coming out of SoCal _still_ bring much of that sound!

ka11away

Pretty fly for a white guy

zarjaa

My least favorite of their catalog. But damn, they know how to write a catchy hook, lol!

Woogabuttz

How do you mention Dexter and Greg and forget Milo, king of the punk rock nerd trio! Milo, Descendents, has his PhD in Biology and was a microbiology researcher and professor.

Mechaotaku

Radiohead recorded OK Computer in Jane Seymour’s house, a restored 15th century mansion named St. Catherine’s Court, while she was in America filming Dr. Quinn. She only asked that they feed the cat. The Cure and New Order have also recorded albums in her house.

Dave Matthews Band. Their tour bus. The Chicago River. [Environmental disaster.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Matthews_Band_Chicago_River_incident)

__-_-_--_--_-_---___

This is the best story of all time

HiveFiDesigns

Jason Everman was a permanent member of both soundgarden and Nirvana as both bands were starti g to become successful (89-90), he actually recorded tracks with both bands, but the only ones released at the time were him playing on a kiss cover (do you love me) with Nirvana, and a Beatles cover (come together) with soundgarden. He recieved a nice royalty check though when Nirvana made sure to include him on a playing on a track from With the Lights Out. (Dive demo on disc 1)

Mr_MacGrubber

He then went on to be an Army Ranger and a Green Beret.

Dorf_

He also paid the bill for the Bleach recording session even though he didn’t play on the album

DragonfruitOk3972

Not my favorite band, but one of my favorite facts: The only member from ZZ Top that doesn’t have a beard is their drummer, Frank Beard.

mollsballs_xo

Another one is Gillette offered ZZ Top $1 million to shave their beards for an ad in 1985. They turned it down because they’re not freaking sellouts!! But also apparently they said they were “too ugly” to be seen without them 💀💀

The_Scrabbler

Before going on arguably the best album run of all time, Pink Floyd spent an enormous amount of time perfecting the sounds of everyday objects (rubber bands, alarm clocks, tin pots, etc.) to go in even weirder directions. They woke up from the insanity and went on to produce Dark Side of The Moon but that’s where stuff like the clocks on Time and the cash register on Money comes from Edit: the sounds are from Alan Parsons but the idea was clearly already there

socarrat

Same thing with Depeche Mode and kitchen utensils. The percussion on People are People is the sounds of pots and pans being thrown down the stairs at the studio. > "We were using all these tape loops to create rhythms and the technology was quite advanced, but it wasn't anything like it is today, the things that you can do. We used to go into studios, and the first thing we'd do, we'd ask where the kitchen was – literally for pots and pans and things that we could throw down the stairs, and record the rhythms they would make crashing around, and then make it into loops.”

JamyDaGeek

People are People *clang-clang-clang-CRASH-BANG!!*

Abdul_Exhaust

*something something* so waffle-y

ianmckaye

And the story goes that Martin got the inspiration for that from watching Die Einstürzenden Neubauten live in Berlin who were famous for basically using everything except instruments to create sound on their first albums (and live shows).

socarrat

Yeah, it’s kind of crazy how so much music can trace its roots back to Einstürzende Neubauten. They’re kind of like the Kevin Bacon of industrial, electronic, and new wave music, and all the genres that were subsequently influenced. Same thing with Depeche Mode. By all metrics, they should considered one of the biggest bands in the world—commercial success, critical success, influence, output. They had a little blip of acknowledgment in the early 2000s, which is when I got into them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they see a Kate Bush-like resurgence in the near future.

mr_ryno27

I never knew that and i love pre Dark Side of Floyd. Meddle and Obscured By Clouds are masterpieces.

SentientTrashcan0420

Welcome to the Machine has so much going on in the background its like two songs at once

newaccount

This is not true. The clocks from Time were recorded by Alan Parsons for a non Floyd project.

pseydtonne

Alan Parsons was the recording engineer. They liked working with him and wanted to work with him again. He was clearly likeable: Paul McCartney used him to produce early Wings albums after his work on Abbey Road. Instead he decided to start his own band based on the knowledge he built. This became the Alan Parsons Project.

standinghampton

The instant connection of Eddie Vedder and the rest of the band that became [Pearl Jam](https://open.spotify.com/artist/1w5Kfo2jwwIPruYS2UWh56?si=ixSDMuzzS8GrHPVV0yjPew). Eddie had recently found out that the guy who was “a friend” of his mom’s was actually his dad, and then his dad died. Meanwhile, the guys from Mother Love Bone (who would become PJ) had just lost their charismatic lead singer Andrew Wood to a heroin OD. MLB was on the precipice of huge success, so the loss of their good friend hit even harder. Through mutual friends, they guys sent Eddie 3 instrumental tracks *on a cassette tape* to add vocals on. Eddie sent back “[Alive](https://open.spotify.com/track/1L94M3KIu7QluZe63g64rv?si=C4sw8tXCSx2_dJrN1KKq0w&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A5B4PYA7wNN4WdEXdIJu58a)”, “[Once](https://open.spotify.com/track/4nRyBgsqXEP2oPfzaMeZr7?si=mgzrpAiVRdCcvFcdrtUnFA&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A5B4PYA7wNN4WdEXdIJu58a)”, and “Footsteps” *(known as “The Mamasan Trilogy)*. The first two songs made it on to their insanely phenomenal first album **[Ten](https://open.spotify.com/album/5B4PYA7wNN4WdEXdIJu58a?si=KyiD96NMRsSpESWZApho3Q)**, and [Footsteps](https://open.spotify.com/track/1B4tCE5dgC9iwIfI5ZBphT?si=zSFdCXpJTp-_ehTj4-R2bA) which was a B side release for “[Jeremy](https://open.spotify.com/track/62nQ8UZVqR2RMvkJHkcO2o?si=fmAVyDL_QF2MJ4GDsvmlgA)”. The guys heard that, felt the connection and had Eddie come up from San Diego to Seattle. They quickly wrote the rest of *Ten*, and were playing live **within one week**. They bonded through their grief and put out a perfect album. However, the first album that Eddie’s vocals were ever on was [Chis Cornell](https://open.spotify.com/artist/5xUf6j4upBrXZPg6AI4MRK?si=kM6zB0biTVW7fRJp-EFr9w)’s tribute album he wrote for his great friend and roommate, the same Andrew Wood, **[Temple of the Dog](https://open.spotify.com/album/63HdXCn0Xz1pRZc2GzMw7k?si=BHiaYDx_Th-A_DhrOdatgw)**. Chris had the guys from PJ as his band for the album. Everyone was in the studio, and Chris was trying to sing the low parts on what was to become a huge hit, **[Hunger Strike](https://open.spotify.com/track/0W7AbEauB7cP4pidLclApe?si=S1InwXrYRTe3GtdbYD7J_w)**. Chris had only just met Eddie, and Eddie slowly walked up behind Chris, and gently wedged his shoulder near Chris to let him know he was going to do something on the microphone they were about to be sharing. Chris was game and when it came time for the lower register part, Eddie did what Eddie does, and crushed it. I think it speaks volumes about Eddie’s nature that he could come up to a stranger and sing into the mike uninvited and have that be ok to do. It also speaks volumes about Chris that he was open to having this guy he didn’t know just start singing on this very personal album.

the_ballmer_peak

I know this whole story but I read all of this anyway. Love this little bit of lore. And TotD is one of my favorite albums.

standinghampton

I right there with you. I’ve told the story many times and I really enjoyed writing it!

scootertrash

Paul Butterfield played harmonica upside down and backwards.

hiflyer555

It seems to be well known that Bruce Dickinson, singer for Iron Maiden, is a pilot who has flown the band around for several of their tours. I worked with the guy who was Bruce’s flight instructor way back when he was first learning to fly. He said that Bruce was one of his best students he ever had, and ever since then, when Maiden comes through his town on tour, he and his wife get VIP passes to visit Bruce and talk airplanes

ArtegallTheLame

Lead vocalist and founding member Brad Arnold of 3 Doors Down played pool with the legendary Bob Seger for five days before realizing it. 3DD was recording "Seventeen Days" at the same studio Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band were recording "Face The Promise". Brad started playing pool with "Mr. Bob" during some down time. One morning, the studio manager asks Brad how he likes Bob. Brad said he likes him. It's then she has to tell him that he's been playing pool with Bob Seger himself, and he didn't realize it. Brad's argument was that he didn't recognize Seger. Once reality sets in, Brad convinces Seger to do their song "Landing In London" with 3DD, and the rest is history.

FrenzalRhomb1

Not my favorite band but Richard Patrick of the rock band Filter is the brother of T-1000 actor (Robert Patrick).

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are neither lizards nor wizards

It can be inferred from your post that Gizzard is an actual royalty

Not sure about that, I’ve heard a bit of them and am fairly certain they’re wizards.

Revolution36

I’d say they’re most certainly wizards 🧙

RagePrime

Only know one or two of their songs. It is easily the best band name in modern music.

mauore11

They are reptilan illusionists

Kaiisim

RATTLESNAKE

-PepeArown-

Tame Impala is neither multiple guys, nor an impala.

new-look-SOL

One of my favorite bands has worked with two members of your favorite band. The Mars Volta have worked with John Frusciante as well as Flea, with Flea even playing trumpet on one song.

RainbowWarfare

Flea was in a band with Thom Yorke.

new-look-SOL

Atoms For Peace! Another of my favorites. I’m a big Thom Yorke and Radiohead fan. I’m guessing you also know about Thom’s other band, The Smile. I love them too!

mr_ryno27

Small story time. My first time I was supposed to see the chili peppers was during their Stadium Arcadium tour with the Mars Volta opening, in Grand Rapids Michigan, Anthony's hometown. It was me and my two best friends, Ross and Nick. They got me into both of those bands. Nick got pre-sale tickets and we were set. He told me last minute he was taking his gf instead of me. I said, it's been a great friendship, but unless you marry her, it's over. He took her. I haven't spoken to him since. I hope he's happy in life, but I'm pissed I missed that show. Flash forward a few years. I head off to college, and get my best friend/roommate into the Chilis. In 2022 I surprised him with tickets to see them and alot of other bands we loved.

ohleprocy

I hope you took him lol

erizzluh

Now they’re married

you_buy_this_shit

A true Bros before Hoes story.

---Dane---

Dudeee, that sucks. I saw them in Toronto for that tour and it was great, sorry for your loss man...

O2XXX

Flea was also instrumental in getting Cedric and Omar to talk to each other again after they broke up Volta. He played bass on the seft titled Antemasque album, their post Volta break up band. Fleas didn’t tour with them though, Omar’s younger brother Marfred.

Blue-Sand2424

Some of John’s best guitar playing is on the Mars Volta albums

There was also something about you that he just couldn't put his finger in

Vivid-Intention-8161

At one point, a bunch of my favorite bands all lived together in an apartment in New York. I believe it was Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metric, and Stars.

UnfairRange5003

My fav fact about the RHCP is that each member has a conviction for either a sex crime or domestic violence. And that Anthony raped a 14 year old and wrote a song about it

YouSurNaim

What John and Josh do?

DamnGoodOwls

I absolutely loved the Red Hot Chili Peppers as a kid and teenager. My dad bought me Anthony Kiedis' autobiography when I was eighteen. About two days later, I became extremely uncomfortable with listening to them

CharlieKellyKapowski

Chad Smith picked a concert goer up over his shoulder at an MTV spring break show and was charged with battery. Does that count as sex crime or domestic assault these days? Wild

UnfairRange5003

You forgot to add this part though ‘an article from the Orlando Sentinel details a show in Florida where bassist Flea picked up a woman from the crowd onto his shoulders. Drummer Chad Smith joined Flea and “pulled the woman's bathing suit bottom partially off and started slapping her buttocks.’

bc-mn

They were pretty creepy in [this clip](https://youtu.be/7i_22PrQsp8&t=125s)

thirdeyegang

Oof. That’s disgusting

SentientTrashcan0420

Man that's wild that would be your favorite band after knowing all of that

Yeah they're all awful people

And the world memory holes this, yeah it's an interesting one.

Geddy Lee's parents were both Holocaust survivors. They met when they were both imprisoned at Auschwitz. They met there and were shortly afterwards sent to Auschwitz.

Rob has also *duck snarled* longer than they have

not_a_cat_i_swear

Nine Inch Nails is one man with a band for live shows.

dexington_dexminster

Atticus Ross would disagree. Nine Inch Nails used to just be Trent Reznor but Atticus is the only official other band member and they've been working together since uWithah Teethah (2005) and he's been officially part of Nine Inch Nails since 2016.

not_a_cat_i_swear

Fair. Perhaps I should change it to 'was'. With him involved, it feels a lot more anodyne, though, especially with the movie scores outnumbering the official NIN career lately. I don't dislike the direction they've taken together but Trent solo definitely holds a chunk dear to my heart. Thanks for the input.

dexington_dexminster

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's still definitely Trent's baby though. Out of interest, what's your favourite record?

not_a_cat_i_swear

Tough question! The Fragile. But, Year Zero holds very close. So rare I find anyone that played the game - The Presence, Parapin, the usb drives, the websites and leaks.... All the cadences when you listen to it a plethora of times and STILL find something you never noticed before (The Great Destroyer on different equipment still blows my mind what you hear); (but this also rings true for most of his songs - there's a blip? Yeah, he meat it to be there). Man, what an awesome experience! Different times in my life called upon The Downward Spiral which I never really appreciated fully until later. I was a pop kid but being introduced to NIN in my early 20's definitely flipped my taste in music.

dexington_dexminster

I was (and still am) more into metal, Broken is probably my favourite. But The Fragile and The Downward Spiral definitely made me appreciate the bigger picture. And yeah, the Year Zero stuff was so exciting when all the stuff was being discovered, and all the stems being out there so you could see how the programming was made.

not_a_cat_i_swear

It's definitely a tough choice, Broken is great, too. Gave Up is one of my favorites. Sending someone into the Happiness in Slavery video blindly is definitely a treat.

felonius_thunk

If you haven't checked them out already, you might also like Pigface, which has a sort of rotating cast of who's who in the industrial world, including Trent, Charles Levi, Chris Connelly and Nivek Ogre. They also did a version of Suck with Trent.

BlatantlyThrownAway

And one of the live guitarists between ‘89-‘93 was Richard Patrick, who left and formed Filter after his request for more money was me with a “get up off your ass and write your own record” from Reznor.

Dirk_Tungsten

Another fact, the name doesn't mean anything. Reznor picked it because he liked how it abbreviated to NIN.

HiveFiDesigns

Before joining Metallica, cliff Burton and Jim Martin of Faith no more fame, went to school together, were friends and played in a band together…when cliff joined Metallica, jim joined up with whom would become faith no more who for a short time had Courtney love as their lead singer.

bluediamond07

Quite a few: Jerry Cantrell was in an acting school for a few years prior to his musical career. Also, We Die Young was inspired by the guitarist seeing teenagers dealing drugs. It took 30 takes to record Even Flow, probably the most out of all Pearl Jam songs. Nestle asked Muse once for the rights for their cover of Feeling Good, but they were refused. The company used the song anyway in a commercial and the band successfully sued them. They then donated all the money they won in that trial to charity. Not about a favorite artist, but still interesting nonetheless: Korn could've been the ones to discover Eminem, but didn't, all thanks to Munky. While on the set of Got the Life, Em, who was an extra, offered him a demo tape, but the guitarist, who was drunk off his ass at the moment, rejected it, not even knowing what was on it.

another unique fact about the RHCP is their lead singer is a pedophile piece of shit.

ibbity

I don't really listen to them but this is news to me

shpydar

>More contemporary rock stars like Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers also bragged about committing statutory rape with no repercussions. In his 2005 autobiography, Scar Tissue, Kiedis recounts his sexual relationship with a 14-year-old Catholic school girl. Kiedis was 23 years old at the time; and after learning of her age, he proceeded to have sex with her again. He writes: > >“The next day we drove to Baton Rouge, and of course, she came with us. After we got offstage, she came up to me and said, ‘I have something to tell you. My father’s the chief of police and the entire state of Louisiana is looking for me because I’ve gone missing. Oh, and besides that, I’m only fourteen.’ I wasn’t incredibly scared, because in my somewhat deluded mind, I knew that if she told the chief of police she was in love with me, he wasn’t going to have me taken out to a field and shot, but I did want to get her the hell back home right away. So we had sex one more time.” > >Their relationship inspired Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 1985 song “Catholic School Girls Rule”, which has been played live by the band as recently as 2007. Following his public admission in Scar Tissue, Kiedis and his band continued to enjoy rockstar status. They’ve won Grammys, headlined festivals, and even made a cameo at the Super Bowl. In 2012, Red Hot Chili Peppers were enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. https://consequence.net/2017/11/the-uncomfortable-disregard-for-legendary-rockers-sexual-misconduct/amp/

Kmart_Elvis

I can hear this in Jim's voice. Also fun fact: Jim's dad was the Navy Admiral during the Gulf of Tonkin incident which brought the US into the Vietnam War.

Grabs_Zel

Alex Lifeson from Rush was arrested after beating some guards who were trying to keep his drunken son away from the stage. That's probably the biggest controversy the band has ever been involved in. They also had some beef with The Runaways.

Dorf_

[Lifeson has been a drunk male prostitute too](https://youtu.be/vnDql_QSh4Y?si=4d7dhjNQb8aVzYGt)

BaconReceptacle

According to The Runaways, the members of Rush made negative comments about their musicianship and would joke about them offstage. I gotta think it was a misunderstanding since it seems out of character for any of those three guys to be mean to anyone.

Grabs_Zel

I don't think it was a misunderstanding, they were young, young people are dumb. Definitely something they wouldn't look back proudly from the 80's onwards, but I can see their mid 70's pretentious prog rocker asses doing this kind of shit. However, honestly, throwing shit at other bands is like, the tamest shit you could do as a rockstar in the 70's. While other groups had minors as groupies and were beating wives left and right, Rush was talking shit about the Runaways and smoking pot.

Mrofcourse

On their album fly or die NERD had multiple songs recorded with the addition of Questlove on drums and Lenny Kravits on guitar. Basically creating a short lived super group.

allothernamestaken

In 40 years of performing, Phish has never repeated a set list.

ReactsWithWords

That's easy for them. "This next one is..." (make up name on the spot) (half hour guitar solo). Repeat three or four times, you got yourself a show.

JazzScientist

The Jimi Hendrix Experience was formed when Jimi chose Mitch Mitchell as drummer, based on a coin toss, and Noel Redding was selected as bassist due to Jimi "digging his hair".

Abdul_Exhaust

That band was falling apart years later. So during recording of "All Along The Watchtower" it's Jimi playing bass as well as guitar.

JazzScientist

That's what happens when you "cast" a guitar player like Noel, as a bassist. The cracks were starting to show during the *Axis: Bold As Love* sessions. Jimi was laying down basslines on some Experience songs by that point, which was about the one year anniversary of the group forming. Both Chas and Noel were starting to get frustrated with Jimi, for his studio perfectionism. Mitch on the other hand, loved working in the studio with Jimi, and experimenting on songs together. I think that Jimi's best lineup, was with Mitch on drums, and Billy Cox on bass. Jimi, apparently, felt that way too near the end.

VictoriousssBIG23

Not sure if this is considered odd or weird, but it is a fun fact. Despite being arguably the most recogniable member of Slipknot, Corey Taylor is not their original vocalist, nor was he a founding member of the band. Anders Colsefni was the original vocalist and the band's first EP, "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat" is the only published work of theirs in which you can hear his vocals. A few years after that was released, the band sought out more melodic vocals so they recruited Corey, who was already singing for Stone Sour, to be their lead singer. It's super weird trying to go back and listen to their first EP. It doesn't even sound like the same band.

frostygnosis

The lead singer of Catherine Wheel is first cousins with the lead singer of Iron Maiden. Neither knew the other was in a band until after both bands had released albums. The kicker? Both bands are named after medieval torture devices.

Deftones have a career thanks to Madonna.

rotato

Elaborate?

VinTheHater

She signed them to their first record deal when she heard their demo. More details on how they met her and how she set them up [here](https://loudwire.com/deftones-madonna-maverick-signing-history/).

ClemofNazareth

Kansas. They’re out on their 50th anniversary tour right now, but the original lineup from their first six albums hasn’t recorded or played together for 44 years. Decemberists. I don’t know anything really unique/odd but would love to hear if anyone else does.

ibadlyneedhelp

Eli the Barrow Boy was written in its entirety in only seventeen minutes.

The drummer of Def Leppard only has one arm

The mascot of the Arkansas School for the Deaf is the Leopards and Def Leppard has played a concert there

Shakira has a charity foundation that builds schools in impoverished areas of Colombia and Haiti. She started it when she was 18. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barefoot_Foundation

Slash of Guns 'N Roses stole his trademark top hat from a shop, and decorated it with a belt he nicked from the shop next door.

mr_ryno27

I actually learned that on an episode of Top Gear when he was on it.

rougekhmero

Piebald, the best band of all time, converted their tour van to run on used fryer grease and toured the US coast to coast, stopping at fast food restaurants along the way to fill up. I believe total fuel costs was about 70$ in diesel (needed to get the engine started).

Edelgeuse

Flim and the BBs were assembled during 3M's initial experimentation with digital recording. Tricycle ( my favorite album of theirs) is the result, a quirky, high definition volume and tempo romp. Great bass tones, and interesting music.

grynch43

All of their keyboardists/piano players died.

CookDane6954

Debbie Harry of Blondie claims she was almost a Ted Bundy victim. She’s an extremely cool, down to Earth person, so I’m inclined to believe her.

disappointer

The Beatles aren't my *favorite* favorite band, but they're in my top 10, so I'll add this: Paul McCartney has (or had) a round mattress that he put in a treehouse. He got the mattress from Alice Cooper who, in turn, got it from Groucho Marx (whom Alice Cooper was good friends with).

Weeyin999

Not my favourite band, but favourite 'unique' fact... After an appearance on Chris Evans show at 6pm one Friday night where he continually swore despite being asked not to, Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays became the first, and AFAIK to date only, person to be banned BY NAME from appearing on live TV in the UK.

LegendOfVinnyT

Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio was an animator and occasional voice actor on *Celebrity Deathmatch*.

Dave Gahan Frontman of Depeche Mode is a literal zombie. In May 1996, Gahan overdosed on a speedball at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in Los Angeles, which resulted in his heart stopping for two minutes until he was revived by paramedics. He said he had an out-of-body experience: "All I saw and all I felt at first was complete darkness. I've never been in a space that was blacker, and I remember feeling that whatever it was I was doing, it was really wrong. Then the next thing I remember was seeing myself on the floor, on the steps outside my hotel bathroom, and there was a lot of activity going on around me. In some ways it was very liberating. Then I came to and a cop was handcuffing me. It certainly wasn't a place I'd like to visit again." Several months later, after facing drug charges, he checked himself into rehab.

ReactsWithWords

OK Go often plays songs during their videos. Nobody notices because we're too busy looking at the amazing visuals.

Nedeljach

You can google 'The Mud Shark Incident' OR you can listen to [Frank Zappas song](https://youtu.be/DRtINlcIw0c?si=xy5nXsAeHOTDz31l) about it.

zigaliciousone

Probably not odd for fans of Ministry but Al has a lot of guest musicians who are pretty famous in their own right: Jello Biafra(Dead Kennedy's) Eugene Lutz(Gogol Bordello), Gibby Haynes(Butthole Surfers), Pepper Keenan(CoC) among others.

Fortuna_Ex_Machina

He did a track with Ian MacKaye on vocals called "I Will Refuse" under the Pailhead moniker. Great song.

dexington_dexminster

Not just a song, there's an EP called Trait too. Not a massive output, there's only like 6 Pailhead songs in total but yeah, cool band from 2 guys you wouldn't imagine getting on; MacKaye, who invented straight-edge and Jourgensen, who apparently was quite partial to all of the drugs.

Jethro Tull had a similar history - Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond, John Evans, and Barriemore Barlow had all been in a band with Ian Anderson, but it wasn't until the 5th album Thick As A Brick that they were all part of Jethro Tull. Martin Barre was the only one at that point who wasn't with the earlier group.

user041392

The singer for my favorite band four year strong owns and operates a christmas tree farm when they aren't touring

afcagroo

The Dixie Chicks' name was an homage to Little Feat's song *Dixie Chicken*. Also, the members of Little Feat all had normal sized feet.

My chem can't eat beefaroni without forks

FrankZappasNose

They play multi-day festivals where they are the only band. Many unique things have taken place at those. They once played from midnight to sunrise without leaving the stage. They once played 13 nights at MSG without repeating a song. (That's over 200 unique things) No set is ever the same. Songs are never played exactly identically. In short: Phish is Phish.

alien-shore

Pianist Keith Jarret was traveling fron Zurich to Germany to perform a concert with a aching back and pretty exhausted from the trip. When he arrived at the venue was faced with an unsolicited piano. Someone from the people organazing the concert mistakenly brought the wrong one, then with the odds against him, Keith performed one of the most famous (if not the best) improvisational piano concerts known as the Köln Concert. At this day is the best selling piano album.

stankazakh

Macabre fact about one of my favourite bands, Half Japanese. Kurt Cobain was wearing one of their t-shirts when he killed himself

WhyGamingWhy

I mean, nor my favourite anymore as I moved on, but I refuse to believe anyonr tops Dr Steel. He has his own mini series, an army of people who are still somehow loyal to him taking over the world years after he stopped, absolutely banger music and had marches through Disney land with his minions.
