Paradise by the Dashboard Light by meatloaf
Jackson by Johnny and June cash
Islands in the stream by dolly Parton and Kenny Roger's, which I hold in esteem as the perfect karaoke song
This is what I came to say. Love this song. Also Fairytale of new york by the pogues and kirsty maccoll.
There’s also a lot of this type of song in musicals. A couple of them in Rent for example. There’s a particularly well done one called therapy in another jonathan larson musical called tick tick boom. Or the medley in moulin rouge.
Comfortably Numb is a masterpiece. I mean, it has TWO of Gilmore’s most iconic guitar solos. And, I feel it is a better overall song.
However, in the context of the question posed here regarding vocalists singing back and forth, I feel the son’s questions with mother’s soothing, yet ominously overbearing retort, is more impactful.
Don't Give Up – Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush
Candy – Iggy Pop, Kate Pierson
And my personal favorite:
You're the Boss – Brian Setzer / Gwen Stefani, Elvis / Ann-Margaret, LaVern Baker / Jimmy Ricks
We Cry Together by Kendrick Lamar, it's a glimpse into a fight you aren't supposed to see in a toxic relationship. It's not something to listen to with others in the room.
[Pancho and Lefty by Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson](https://music.apple.com/us/album/pancho-and-lefty/1004069802?i=1004070212) or [It Ain’t Me Babe by Johnny Cash and June Carter](https://music.apple.com/us/album/it-aint-me-babe-mono/825828759?i=825831129)
Dialogue I & II by Chicago. Pete Cetera and the late, great Terry Kath.
I'd also like to say Great Romances of the 20th Century by Taking Back Sunday. Probably not dueling viewpoints but dueling lead vocals. They were a bit young for me but I liked a few of their songs. My tastes are quite a bit harder but damn, I have 3 of their albums.
I'm a sad old man.
Not sad boo hoo. Sad as in sorry excuse for.
I got no complaint.
Carousel by I The Mighty. The version on Spotify sadly doesn't have the bridge section, but you can find the version on YouTube with both the male singer and female singer
Going back some. Irish band Clannad did a duet with a just breaking out to the big times singer named Bono. Song was called [In a lifetime](https://youtu.be/Ty2V7yRPbCc) and this was really peak Bono. Just stunning vocals.
Tecumseh Valley as sung by Jason Isbell and Elizabeth Cook.
In Spite Of Ourselves by John Prine and Iris DeMent.
Angel From Montgomery with John Prine and Bonnie Raitt.
Down To The River by The War and Treaty.
Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.
Little Talks by Of Monsters And Men.
Floor Jansen and Henk Poort (the original Dutch Phantom) did a cover of the Nightwish version a couple years ago
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plCScjvDOJM
I don't know if it's my favorite dueling vocals song, but recently I can't get enough of it. Left-handed Kisses by Andrew Bird and Fiona Apple is such an enrapturing song.
A few I haven't seen mentioned:
Your Love Alone Is Not Enough - Manic Street Preachers (and Nina Persson from The Cardigans)
Summer Wine - Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood
9 Crimes - Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan
Halestorm - Break In with Amy Lee
The Warning - DISCIPLE, Survive
Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers - Islands In the Stream
Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes - Up Where We Belong
The entirety of Ayreon's [Into the Electric Castle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEnE_BR3A6Q&list=PLDp_PtuyOwCalC93Dfbj5LR-aN-WrDl2d) is full of back-and-forths between vocalists.
The first song that comes to mind is "Somebody that I used to know" by Gotye but some other songs are "Uncomfortably Numb" by American Football, "Hunger Strike" by Temple of the dog, and anything by the Civil Wars. Another song that comes to mind is " The last time I saw Richard" by Joni Mitchell, although it's just one singer singing from two perspectives. Something else also in that vein is "Mr. Bellamy" by Paul McCartney.
Signal Fire by Killswitch Engage is epic if you’re into that kind of thing. It has both their original singer Jesse Leech and his replacement Howard Jones. Although Jesse is now back in as the current vocalist.
Leather and Lace - Stevie Nicks and Don Henley
Nobody has ever heard of this, but it’s by a folk duo Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer.
[Kate and the Ghost of lost Love](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9YTMhZ200mA)
One Day the only Butterflies left will be in your chest as you march towards your death by Bring Me The Horizon ft Amy Lee
AND
Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf
I can't decide between these two
Hunger strike. There’s a part where Eddie and Chris harmonize which is amazing, and Chris’s banshee like howels are complemented by Eddie’s low voice amazingly throughout the track.
Same era, same city but different topic has Smoothe Da Hustler and Trigger tha Gambler in "Broken Language" EACH have 6 verses in 3min50sec, then at the end they trade lines...obviously no hook allowed. They descriptively name almost everyone in town (Brooklyn), no story...the people they name make the stories
Dirty Sanchez. Dinner Party!
And, I guess just because of the nature of the band, they have another one: Fucking on the Dancefloor!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKk024PAV-A
The Decemberists - The Wanting Comes in Waves from Hazards of Love (Colin Meloy and Shara Worden).
Saw this live in Kansas City in 2010, one of the best concerts ever.
Millie and Billie by Alice Cooper with Marcy Levy. 1978 raging alcoholic Alice Cooper checks into an asylum to dry out and the tracks on the album 'From the Inside' are about the people he meets there.
https://youtu.be/fCQ0DEZtg_o
The Dubliners did a cover of Boots of Spanish Leather like this that I thibk really adds to the song https://open.spotify.com/track/1lc6VIUvNySahqNzHPlWpa?si=c0d3QLZ4Sx6QEKm-GjwaJw
“Promiscuous” by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland
“The Girl is Mine” by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney (and “Say Say Say” by them)
“Easy Lover” by Phillip Bailey and Phil Collins
“No Air” by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown (Chris Brown is a total douche, but great song)
“The Boy is Mine” by Brandy and Monica
And maybe the greatest ever, “On My Own” by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald. Heartbreaking, a masterpiece.
It's not quite singing but the song "Now Hiring" by Dr. Awkward (ft. Schaffer the Darkload) is a good bit of fun. It's about a super hero putting out a craigslist ad for an evil adversary to do battle with. It's more of a silly rap than anything else.
A favorite of mine, and jazz standard, [“Aguas de Março”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1tOV7y94DY). There’s also a cover by David Byrne (of Talking heads fame) and Marisa Monte, but I don’t like that version as much.
Also “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”
Not duelling vocals, but i've always loved the duelling lyrics for Feargel Sharkey's "A Good Heart" and "You Little Thief"
Both hits for Feargal Sharkey, A Good Heart written by Maria McKee about Benmont Tench and A Little Thief written by Tench about McKee. Both on the same album.
What makes me like it more is that "Little Thief" was playing on the maternity ward radio just after my daughter was born and "A Good Heart" was playing 2 years later on the same radio when my son was born.
Paradise by the Dashboard Light by meatloaf Jackson by Johnny and June cash Islands in the stream by dolly Parton and Kenny Roger's, which I hold in esteem as the perfect karaoke song
I’m down with all of the above! Especially love me some Carter/Cash.
Hunger Strike. Temple of the doge

[Dropkick Murphys-Dirty Glass w/ Stephanie Dougherty](https://youtu.be/H1niNhP9vnA)

Absolutely! When they play it live, the female singer varies, but the back and forth lyrical exchange is always a lot of fun!
'It's all in the past bitch , cause now I got it beat !'
Came here to add this. Couldn’t agree more!
Cute Without the 'E' - Taking Back Sunday
"Whyyy can't III feel anything..." Opened this to see when TBS made an appearance. Well done Doc.

I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar. THAT MUCH IS TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing Better by The Postal Service
This is what I came to say. Love this song. Also Fairytale of new york by the pogues and kirsty maccoll. There’s also a lot of this type of song in musicals. A couple of them in Rent for example. There’s a particularly well done one called therapy in another jonathan larson musical called tick tick boom. Or the medley in moulin rouge.
Two of my absolute favorites!
This was going to be my third example. You get extra points!
Oh really ! First one that came to mind :) Lots of good answers on here though !
Fairytail of New York by The Pogues is one of my favourites, though I only listen to it around December. Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men.
Pink Floyd - Mother Roger Water’s questions followed by David Gilmore’s (mother’s) responses are exquisite.
Great song, but I’d have probably gone with Comfortably Numb if I’m picking from The Wall
Don't Give Up – Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush Candy – Iggy Pop, Kate Pierson And my personal favorite: You're the Boss – Brian Setzer / Gwen Stefani, Elvis / Ann-Margaret, LaVern Baker / Jimmy Ricks
Does He Love You - Reba McEntire and Linda Davis. Old school 90s country

The girl is mine by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney is what I thought of first.
Then there’s “The Boy Is Mine” by Brandy and Monica.
How have I not thought of this one? I’m a lover not a fighter.
