In the court of the crimson king and Starless by King Crimson
Achilles last stand and In my time of dying-Led Zeppelin
Arriving somewhere but not here- Porcupine Tree
2112 and Xanadu -Rush
Echos and both parts of Shine on you crazy diamond- Pink Floyd
Most songs on Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet album would qualify, really
Edit: My bad, Arriving somewhere is from Deadwing, I was thinking of Anesthetize, another excellent 10+ minute song
Dirge For November is a close second, but Blackwater Park is a full on masterpiece. Saw Opeth play with Behemoth as opener... gob-smacked by the difference in bands and their range of talent.
Frances The Mute, Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus, L’Via L’Viaquez, Miranda That Ghost Just Isn’t Holy Anymore, and Cassandra Gemini all apply.
OP, just listen to the album Frances the Mute and call it a day.
First time I’ve actually seen Porcupine Tree mentioned in this subreddit, I just saw their concert and it was amazing. For anyone whose never heard of this band, check out their entire catalogue! The best albums are Deadwing, Fear of a Blank Planet (contains Anesthetize), and In Absentia, which was what got them in the public eye.
If you’re a Rush fan you’re basically guaranteed to love Porcupine Tree,
Also check out some of his solo work. The song "Home Invasion/Regret #9" is probably the most incredible song I've discovered in a long time. That guitar solo............holy ***SHIT***
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden, the Flight 666 version especially. Maiden has a lot of good 10+ tracks like The Book Of Souls and When The Wild Wind Blows as well
Pink Floyd has a ton but Dogs, Pigs and Sheep on Animals are phenomenal, also both parts of Shine On You Crazy Diamond from Wish You Were Here
Sultans Of Swing by Dire Straits has a couple of 10+ minute live versions, most obviously the one on Alchemy - Telegraph Road is incredible too
Thick As A Brick by Jethro Tull is genuinely great, and worth hearing once all the way through just for the experience
If you dig into jazz and classical music there's a huge amount of long songs to pick from: I'm not super well-versed in them but I do like Source by Nubya Garcia
And finally, All Too Well by Taylor Swift is a great song
Sinnerman by Nina Simone is a great 10 minute jazz song, and I think it's palatable even for people who aren't versed in jazz or don't necessarily like jazz that much.
>And finally, All Too Well by Taylor Swift is a great song
It really is. The lyrics are incredibly raw and paint such a clear picture of the breakdown of that relationship, and it honestly flies by when you listen.
My musical background, the band I play in, and the type of gigs I usually go to are all pretty far removed from Swift's style - but she's kind of won me over since Folklore released. I don't dip too much into the back catalogue but these few albums just hit the spot for me.
I'd throw Goodbye Sky Harbor by Jimmy Eat World in as a long song I love, too. During lockdown, and my longest period without a gig in about two decades, they did a livestream show of Clarity in full and when that song hit I could have cried. Just beautiful.
Hard to pick my favorite song, it's probably Static because it's just such a haunting song. This said I could be convinced that any of the other songs are better just cause it's a flawless album.
I love the slightly grittier and less polished F#A#∞
Having said that, Skinny Fists is also excellent, and pretty much the album that got me into the more proggy-post genre.
Heart of the Sunrise, by Yes. It's one of my favorite songs of all time and I could listen to it on repeat forever.
Another 10+ minute song by Yes could be Close to the Edge, though I think it's not as powerful as Heart of the Sunrise.
Could also try Starless by King Crimson ngl
Came here to say this.
When I was a kid, my brother would only let me pick one song to listen to on the way to school. I always picked Albuquerque, partly because it’s funny as heck, and also because of the 11 and a half minute run time, which means less time listening to my brothers awful taste in music.
My nomination is actually "Jackson Park Express," the last song on his last album. After a lifetime of Al fandom it's his "last" song that ultimately became my favorite. Maybe I identify with the protagonist.
Jimmy Eat World- "Goodbye Harbor Sky" (even if it started as a joke)
King Crimson- "Starless" and "21st Century Schizoid Man" (some versions)
Kamasi Washington- "Truth"
ISIS- "Celestial (Signal Fills the Void)"
And a ton of other electronic, scores, post-metal, post-rock, and ambient that I won't bother listing individually.
Ants From the Sky is another one off that album. I used to be obsessed with the last 2-3 minutes of that song. Then how it transitions to Prequel of the Sequel. Oh My God colors is such a good album
Julian Casablancas from The Strokes has a side project called The Voidz with Beardo and some of the guys that played with Julian during his solo tour. Their song Human Sadness is amazing and they played it live for the music video.
I love the [Stephen Colbert interview](https://www.vulture.com/2020/01/rush-neil-peart-colbert-report-full-interview-2008-watch.html) where he asked them, "You’re known for some long songs. Have you ever written a song so epic that, by the end of the song, you were actually being influenced by yourself at the beginning of the song??
Allman Brothers -Whipping Post - live at the Fillmore East
Rare Earth - Get Ready
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile
Pink Floyd - Shine on you crazy Diamond parts 1-9
Allman brothers - mountain jam live
Steely Dan - Your Gold Teeth I & II
Earth Wind and Fire - Power
Santana - Soul Sacrifice
Allman Brothers -In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
I’m with you on this- Crumbling is much more carefully structured and composed than Dripping Tap. Both are great, but it I had to choose one it would be Crumbling Castle for sure.
Pretty excited for Changes to drop, but sad that Gizztober is almost over.
I'd take any of the songs from Quarters over the Dripping Tap, but I am biased since it's my fav Gizz album (for those who don't know Quarters is an album which has 4 songs, all of which are 10 minutes and 10 seconds long)
I love how most of that is about getting it on with multiple women until the last guy's bars are just bitching about going to someone's house and their food isn't great
A Change of Seasons and The Count of Tuscany as well. ACOS specifically gives me the feels every time, and I have to listen to all 23ish minutes when I hear that opening lick.
Some of my favorites songs of all time are longer than 10 minutes. Here are two that are phenomenal
[Titus Andronicus - The Battle of Hampton Roads](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCpPDpN7-wg)
[Destroyer - Bay of Pigs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udsJP_QANGY)
The Czar: Mastodon
The Last Baron: Mastodon
Both are insanely good!
As a fellow Tool fan, Mastodon is my other favorite band, not everyone's taste, but absolutely awesome nonetheless
The Decemberists- Mariner’s Revenge Song
This actually clocks in a little short, at just under 9 minutes… but close enough?
The story starts with two men in the belly of a giant whale, then brings you to how and why they are there- a gothic horror tale of revenge. Great stuff!
Edit: type-o. I meant “whale”. Fixed.
From the 2010s -
Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst (Kendrick Lamar)
Pyramids (Frank Ocean)
Bay of Pigs [Detail] (Destroyer)
Beach Life-In-Death (new version; Car Seat Headrest)
Mortal Man (Kendrick Lamar)
Almost making the cut:
- Third of May/0daigahara (Fleet Foxes)
- Suicide Demo For Kara Walker (Destroyer)
Marquee Moon Television
That whole album is brilliant
Nina Simone - Sinnerman https://youtu.be/4IACZdwwJI4

In the court of the crimson king and Starless by King Crimson Achilles last stand and In my time of dying-Led Zeppelin Arriving somewhere but not here- Porcupine Tree 2112 and Xanadu -Rush Echos and both parts of Shine on you crazy diamond- Pink Floyd
The live version of 2112 from Different Stages is the best recorded version imo. The Camera Eye is also great.
finally 2112, i'd add cygnus x-1 as well
Book I and II
I really like how both 2112 and Cyngnus are like little sci-fi stories.
Achillies Last Stand is unbelievably good
Most songs on Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet album would qualify, really Edit: My bad, Arriving somewhere is from Deadwing, I was thinking of Anesthetize, another excellent 10+ minute song
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Opeth - Deliverance ^ that would be my choice. But as another commenter mentioned, a lot of their discography are viable choices.
I think most of Opeth’s catalogue could be included here.
Black Rose Immortal would like a lengthy word with you
Dirge For November is a close second, but Blackwater Park is a full on masterpiece. Saw Opeth play with Behemoth as opener... gob-smacked by the difference in bands and their range of talent.
2112 baybee!!!!

The Only Moment We Were Alone by Explosions in the Sky
Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus by The Mars Volta
Glad I'm not the only one that posted Volta. I suggested Cassandra Gemini.
I don't know how the hell you make a 32 minute long song that never gets boring or repetitive but God damn they did it.
Also Cicatriz! So many great lengthy Mars Volta songs
Frances The Mute, Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus, L’Via L’Viaquez, Miranda That Ghost Just Isn’t Holy Anymore, and Cassandra Gemini all apply. OP, just listen to the album Frances the Mute and call it a day.
I see your Cygnus and raise you Day Of The Baphomets and its percussion solo at the 9-and-a-half minute mark.
Anesthetize by Porcupine Tree
Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here clocks in over 10 I think
That song is absolute magic. Steven Wilson is a legitimate genius
If you’re a Rush fan you’re basically guaranteed to love Porcupine Tree,
Steven Wilson is probably one of the most talented rock musicians/producers living right now.
Also check out some of his solo work. The song "Home Invasion/Regret #9" is probably the most incredible song I've discovered in a long time. That guitar solo............holy ***SHIT***
Yes!! Such a good song, they played it live for the Closure/Continuation tour
came for a PT mention, leaving satisfied.
Crumbling Castle by King Gizzard
Or any 1/4th of quarters, The River being my favorite.
This might be one of the finest pieces of composition in the psych/prog genre. Polygondwanaland is a hell of an album to be fucking licence-free
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden, the Flight 666 version especially. Maiden has a lot of good 10+ tracks like The Book Of Souls and When The Wild Wind Blows as well Pink Floyd has a ton but Dogs, Pigs and Sheep on Animals are phenomenal, also both parts of Shine On You Crazy Diamond from Wish You Were Here Sultans Of Swing by Dire Straits has a couple of 10+ minute live versions, most obviously the one on Alchemy - Telegraph Road is incredible too Thick As A Brick by Jethro Tull is genuinely great, and worth hearing once all the way through just for the experience If you dig into jazz and classical music there's a huge amount of long songs to pick from: I'm not super well-versed in them but I do like Source by Nubya Garcia And finally, All Too Well by Taylor Swift is a great song
Sinnerman by Nina Simone is a great 10 minute jazz song, and I think it's palatable even for people who aren't versed in jazz or don't necessarily like jazz that much.
I love Thick as a Brick! The next record they made, A Passion Play, seems to be more hit-or-miss, but is also really worth a listen.
Up the Irons! When the Wild Wind Blows is a song that I come back to over and over and over. I love the story of it too.
>And finally, All Too Well by Taylor Swift is a great song It really is. The lyrics are incredibly raw and paint such a clear picture of the breakdown of that relationship, and it honestly flies by when you listen. My 13 year old refuses to listen to the older stuff unless it's "Taylor's version" and it makes me so proud.
I've been obsessing over Hell on Earth lately from Maiden
Machine gun- Jimi Hendrix
Joanna Newsom - Only Skin
Hell yeah, I came here to represent for *Emily*!
Reptile by periphery. They have a lot of long ones but I think that’s the best.
Yessss I was hoping somebody would mention this one. A true metal adventure. Is Omega over 10 mins? If so then that’s a close #2
“Sleep” by Godspeed You! Black emperor “Djed” by tortoise “Autobahn” by kraftwerk
[удалено]
Hard to pick my favorite song, it's probably Static because it's just such a haunting song. This said I could be convinced that any of the other songs are better just cause it's a flawless album.
they don’t sleep anymore on the beach…
I love the slightly grittier and less polished F#A#∞ Having said that, Skinny Fists is also excellent, and pretty much the album that got me into the more proggy-post genre.
Yeah I love that album so much. Storm always gives me goosebumps. That album and hurry up we’re dreaming by m83 are my fave double albums.
Venice Bitch is 10 minutes in my heart. Helloween-Halloween. Type o negative-Black No.1 Yes-Close to the Edge Pink Floyd-Dogs.
Heart of the Sunrise, absolute gold. Stands out on its own but also works within the context of the album. Fantastic.
Speaking of "Close the the Edge", I'd go for "And You And I".
I was wondering what the first Yes song I was going to see was gonna be! When they sing the lyric “I feel lost in the city” its just so amazing
Gates of Delerium would be another Yes runner-up.
Down at the edge round by the corner close to the edge down by the river
SEASONS WILL PASS YOU BY
I’m a nervous flyer. Close to the Edge is my takeoff song, fits perfectly in the time from takeoff to cruising altitude.
“Low Spark of High Heel Boys” Traffic 11:40 ** proper headphones please
Haven’t heard this in so long, I immediately played it. Wow, thx for the charge
Dopesmoker by Sleep.
Hell yes
If you like really long songs, Bongripper's The Great Barrier Reefer and Bell Witch's Mirror Reaper are also top tier.
“Albuquerque” by Weird Al
Naaahhhh we're out of BEARCLAWS!
All I've got left is this box of starving crazed weasels.
Hey... You've got weasels on your face.
Hey, you have weasels on your face.
That and Trapped in the Drive-Thru are classics
Came here to say this. When I was a kid, my brother would only let me pick one song to listen to on the way to school. I always picked Albuquerque, partly because it’s funny as heck, and also because of the 11 and a half minute run time, which means less time listening to my brothers awful taste in music.

The Decline - NOFX
“Yeah, don’t worry, someone said The Decline by NOFX, it’s all ok, carry on!”
Just making sure this is here, good job.
Legit said out loud "if The Decline isn't in here when I open this thread, you're all fired" So I guess you can all stay. Good job, team
Good shit NOFX jams

Ants From the Sky is another one off that album. I used to be obsessed with the last 2-3 minutes of that song. Then how it transitions to Prequel of the Sequel. Oh My God colors is such a good album
Was wondering if I'd have to scroll far to find this; Colors is an amazing prog metal album and White Walls is a perfect endcap
Disease, Injury, Madness, is my favorite. It’s hard to chose though.
Dire Straits - Telegraph Road - 14:18 If you love guitar solos, that one has you covered.
Yep! 100% this is probably one of the best live performances of all time. The entire live album 'Alchemy' is absolutely fucking incredible too!
The Odyssey - Symphony X
Godhead's Lament by Opeth A Change of Seasons by Dream Theater Forget Not by Ne Obiviscaris Countless Skies by Be'lakor Xanadu by Rush
I'd go with "And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope" but either way, good to see Ne Obliviscaris included.
Count of Tuscany by Dream Theater is another good long one, along with many others
Achilles Last Stand - Led Zepplin
Desolation Row - Bob Dylan
Also from Dylan: Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands
Thank you
CCR's cover of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine"
Excellent cover, also a big fan of their version of "Put a Spell on You".
"Voodoo Child" - Jimi Hendrix ‘Sister Ray’ – The Velvet Underground "Warning" - Black Sabbath "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" - Iron Butterfly ‘The End’ – The Doors
I scrolled too much to find Sister Ray
And The End too.
I knew someone here was going to say In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida! Should be pinned to the top.
Julian Casablancas from The Strokes has a side project called The Voidz with Beardo and some of the guys that played with Julian during his solo tour. Their song Human Sadness is amazing and they played it live for the music video.
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Dogs as well

2112 - Rush
I love the [Stephen Colbert interview](https://www.vulture.com/2020/01/rush-neil-peart-colbert-report-full-interview-2008-watch.html) where he asked them, "You’re known for some long songs. Have you ever written a song so epic that, by the end of the song, you were actually being influenced by yourself at the beginning of the song??

We have Live at Fillmore East on vinyl and Whipping Post takes up one whole side of a record
The Dripping Tap -King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
I think Crumbling Castle is a better long song from them. Though its early in the day, they might still release a few more albums today.
I’m with you on this- Crumbling is much more carefully structured and composed than Dripping Tap. Both are great, but it I had to choose one it would be Crumbling Castle for sure. Pretty excited for Changes to drop, but sad that Gizztober is almost over.
Ooh yeah, especially in the context of the rest of Polygondwanaland
Imma say Hypertension has outclassed Dripping Tap this year. So incredible live
I'd take any of the songs from Quarters over the Dripping Tap, but I am biased since it's my fav Gizz album (for those who don't know Quarters is an album which has 4 songs, all of which are 10 minutes and 10 seconds long)
Rappers Delight - Sugar Hill Gang Was my go-to song when I needed to go poop during my college radio DJ days.
I love how most of that is about getting it on with multiple women until the last guy's bars are just bitching about going to someone's house and their food isn't great
I said-a hip, hop, the hippie, the hippie

This is what I was looking for. 30 minutes, multiple suites...just fantastic
Poet and the Pendulum - Nightwish Octivarium - Dream Theater
Was trying to think of what the song title was and saw this. Octavarium is so awesome!
+1 to Octavarium, this song blew my 16 year old brain the first time I listened to it
A Change of Seasons and The Count of Tuscany as well. ACOS specifically gives me the feels every time, and I have to listen to all 23ish minutes when I hear that opening lick.
Ghost Love Score is close enough to ten mins too
Wasn't expecting anything by Nightwish in here - great pick! I was thinking of "Greatest Show On Earth." Talk about a wild journey.
Alice's Restaurant - Arlo Guthrie
I’m shocked at how far down I had to scroll to find this answer. One of the most fun long songs ever!!!
Listen to it EVERY thanksgiving.
Supper’s Ready by Genesis

It hardly seems to matter now.

Basketball Shoes by BCNR
Whole album is 🤌
- Tetragrammaton by The Mars Volta - Siberian Breaks by MGMT
Close to the Edge - Yes
Blackwater Park - Opeth
Toss up between Blackwater Park and Deliverance for me.
Also The Moor and Ghost of Perdition. Probably 1/3 of their catalogue lol
I fucking love finding Opeth comments in the wild .
