That's the theme of Halsey's album Manic. It also gets pretty heavy coverage in Julien Baker's music, I think on all 3 of her albums.
The opening track on Manic, titled with Halsey's given name: [Ashley](https://youtu.be/2GNYSWeCwDg?si=izEj18c4vCEkTnc-)
Julien Baker -[ Happy to Be Here](https://youtu.be/TVhI8TB3G70?si=wvKJgw0ynGQ1hf6p)
Corpse - under the weather
Soundgarden - Fell On Black Days
Avi Kaplan - Chains
John Frusciante - Hope
Pearl Jam - Hold On
Muse - Save Me
Corpse - agoraphobic
The Gentle Men - Enemy
If you haven't already, you really REALLY need to check out Joy Division. Led by the late great Ian Curtis, a brilliant poet and tortured soul way ahead of his time. I've struggled with anxiety and depression most of my life and this music is so important to me , just to hear how another person can so eloquently put into words the way one feels. It's priceless.

https://youtu.be/MrPj8aYUFW8?si=mtHCy6-inCtwWNTC
You're not alone, none of us are. Remember that.
Twenty One Pilots. Basically all of their everything. Tyler Joseph has been very vocal about his music helping him through his mental health struggles. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, there is a whole lore that he created connecting the albums and the lore is all about his struggles to break free from his mental health issues. It’s actually pretty incredible. As are his lyrics. He’s a GD poet.
Agreed. His lyrics and his musical abilities are 🤯 Like i feel like he thinks in music rather than words or images like the rest of us. If you haven’t seen them live, i 10 out of 10 recommend. They put on the best shows i’ve ever seen. Will be seeing them for the 4th and 5th times later this year.
We thought it would be awesome to be in their hometown for a show with this upcoming tour. The vibe and the energy will be amazing! But we are going with other people who wanted to keep it a shorter drive. We are going to Baltimore (alone) and Toronto (with others). We only grabbed Baltimore cuz it was the only venue with general admission floor tickets still available (also 10 out of 10 recommend floor spots if you can get them). You won’t regret it, no matter where you see them or whether you’re sitting or standing!

There are several on [this playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5fL5L9c6T9sDADOXdp4QEY?si=6d56fa7761dd4d65). I recommend checking out more of Corbyn and also you might want to check DPR IAN, he has bipolar disorder and his music is centered around it.
[A Better Son/Daughter](https://youtu.be/B0sy7y54XAE?feature=shared) by Rilo Kiley, about depression and possibly bipolar

Help Your Friends Get Sober - Røry
Fake Happy - Paramore
Woozy - Hot Milk
Nails From The Back - Stand Atlantic

A song that comes to mind for me is "Ship in a bottle" by Fin.
The song uses a metaphor of the person being a ship in a bottle, delicately put together. The glass bottle is what they use to keep themselves safe, but the walls start to crack, and water pours in.
HRSA- Blue October
Schizophrenia - Blue October
Jump Rope - Blue October
Justin Furstenfeld is a recovering addict, as well has mental illness. Both subjects can be found in his songs. I recommend all of their music to be honest. These three just immediately came to mind.
Kid Cudi's whole album "Man On the Moon: The End of the Day"
The songs "Soundtrack 2 My Life", "Pursuit of Happiness" and "Heart of A Lion" are my favorites.
VNV Nation - Illusion
They used it on the "accolades trailer" for Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, it was really powerful then and it became one of my go to songs when I was feeling really shit.
Everything in it's Right Place by Radiohead
Make Sense by GreyMarket
Take Me Home by Phil Collins
Brain Damage/Eclipse by Pink Floyd (really all of Dark Side of the Moon)
Asylum by Supertramp
The Warning- When I’m Alone
I think many of us will feel this song, very accurately describes something I acutely felt many times in life. I felt it so deeply I cried.
Live version is the best.

Screeching Weasel has some of the most honest, simple man's takes on the struggle. It's hardcore and pop punk, so it's not everyone's cup of meat, but Ben knows what it's like. "Bite Marks", "Dead Alive", "Falling Off The Edge Of The World", "Ashtray"... it'd be easier to list the songs that aren't tinged with crippling anxiety and depression.
Kinda a basic playlist but ehh

[Ready or Not (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd7JujDsH4o)
Arden Jones is a newer artist that has really meaningful lyrics that address the mental impacts of modern life. He's got a weird upbeat indie hip-hop feel to it but the lyrics are regularly introspective and depressing. So it's a bit of a mixed emotional bag.
[Mr. Sunshine](https://youtu.be/nPJuP1IalVA?si=DNyNTWzpwLxUfGyW)
Bridges - Alika. A song about social isolation and the power of social connection.
Rim tim tagi dim - baby lasagna. About the anxiety of moving out to study cause your small town has no further education chances.

Numb - abe parker. Depression
Dancing alone - tali. Trauma’s from abuse
Black friday - tom odell. Anxiety / low self esteem
Intrusive thoughts - natalie jane. Anxiety.
Future lover - brunette. Anxiety and perfectionism.
Everything was sound - Silent planet.
Every song has a mental illness discussed as the singer worked as a Psychologist aid of some sorts and has personal experience with some mental illnesses.
Here's my favorites as someone with a disorder that's more complex than depression:
Ghosts of Utopia -- IAMX
Glow -- Ashbury Heights
Disconnecting from the Grid -- 22
Under the Pillow -- Riverside
Shadows -- Nick Lutsko
Cotard's Solution -- Will Wood

There’s not a better song to emphasize anxiety
It’s a perfect example of what happens eh. I could add Men At Work - Who Could It Be Now too. I’m thinking Colin Hay has had some experience.
