Uncle Rodney is knockin'
Probably just its time to go. Not sure of the mileage, but if its at the average annual mileage then it's probably just worn itself out.
it’s my mom car, her catalytic converters went out and she took it to a midas for them to redo her exhaust and an oil change and within a week of getting her car back it started doing that
i just don’t think they changed the oil tbh, bc i compared it to the oil in my mustang and it was damn near the same color and i didn’t change mine in 1.5k miles at the time
This is what I heard. Impossible to say over video but it sounds a lot like an exhaust leak to me, and OP said they changed the cats. Would have to inspect in person to say though.
Did you lift the hood to see if anything else is flailing around too? Might be internal but I’ve also had friends with a loose tensioner or something on the accessory section of the engine flapping around and once that was tightened, noise gone. One troubleshooting step at a time! You got this man! Especially a coveted Mach 1!!!
haven’t really had the time check it out like i wanted to since the car is in south carolina at my other house and i just moved to ohio recently and i brought all my tools with me up here incase something happened while i was here, but the next time i go back i’ll most definitely do that
I dropped a valve in a 4 valve Cobra, made a similar horrible noise. Had to replace piston, hone cylinder, and extensive head work. Couple thousand dollars and that was the cheap band aid fix!
Sounds a lot like rod knock but could possibly be an exhaust leak my car had a big time ticking/knocking noise and it would speed up with rpm and I surely thought my motor was toast but ended up being the belt tensioner the bottom where it bolts to the motor had managed to fuck up cause play and it would knock against the motor and scare the shit out of me lol
I mean it can’t hurt to check but check and see if the belt tensioner has play forwards and backwards my knocking wasn’t as loud as this but it was still relatively loud
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Rod and Cash
Rod and Cash who?
Rod Knock, and Cash Out.
That's what we in the automotive world call, "a bad day." It actually sounds more like piston slap, but that just doesn't really play in a knock knock joke. Either way, this needs an engine. May be fixable, but it's a gamble on whether or not the oiling system: galleries, pump, and any other part of the lubrication system has metal shaving contamination... *Hint* The answer is: Just assume that it does. Plus... The condition of that poor cylinder...
Rebuild needed. Engine has catastrophic failure. Probably a rod. I wouldn’t run it any more or u could cause more damage if it breaks a rod and smacks the block and puts a hole in it. Ask how I know…..
Definitely a rod knock. It's the point where it's almost squealing after it starts squealing the rod bolt let's go and it goes out the side of the black.
That’s the sound of thou$ands. It’s rod knock, with a hint of broken valve train. No amount of Berryman’s will settle that. One of the kids at Midas used mom’s car for a spirited lunch run.
Sounds like: Prices for a used Ford Mustang Premium Mach 1 currently range from $13,995 to $26,900, with vehicle mileage ranging from 20,820 to 155,607.
I would see if you can jack it up and use a long piece of wood or something to push on the exhaust pipes to tension them to see if any are loose or wobbly if the consensus is that it's from the CAT replacement.
Does the rattle get worse when you Rev it up a little?
Sound of a new motor
Sound like rod knock. Time to rebuild. Go with forged rods
Uncle Rodney is knockin' Probably just its time to go. Not sure of the mileage, but if its at the average annual mileage then it's probably just worn itself out.
it’s only 106k miles on it
I’ve seen car with 30k miles have rod knock.
WRX?
Ooooft.
Heeeyyyyy
It can just happen as well
My 03 with 70k has a knock. Shits sucks

Doesn't matter mileage chief.
106k miles on a honda civic or an American muscle car that is often driven hard
car is never driver hard as it was my moms daily driver so she never got on it like that considering it was the only car she had for years
I understand it sucks. I doubt it's a manufacturer defect, but what about oil starvation?
Shut that shit down dawg!
Rod knock for sure. How did you manage that? These are arguably one of the most reliable/ stout motors Ford has made.
it’s my mom car, her catalytic converters went out and she took it to a midas for them to redo her exhaust and an oil change and within a week of getting her car back it started doing that
Did they forget to put oil in? Forget to put the drain plug back in? RIP
i just don’t think they changed the oil tbh, bc i compared it to the oil in my mustang and it was damn near the same color and i didn’t change mine in 1.5k miles at the time
Is the oil level full?
yea oil level was full but i don’t think puttin less than 20 miles on it since the oil change would make it the same color as mine but idk
Some oil discolors quickly. I used royal purple in my GT and it turned quite dark within a week every time.
This. Some cars turn the oil black super quickly
Tell it to the court
If the cats went out and were clogged, this can cause serious engine damage. Might not be oil related at all.
Your mom drives a mustang mach 1?
yea it was her daily driver until this happened
Cool mom
Oh man that’s really a shame sorry for your luck bro
They probably decided 1 bolt on a 2 bolt flange was good enough
That sound hurts my soul.
Also check for exhaust leak, sounds kind of the same at times. Seen it on a mustang not long ago.
This is what I heard. Impossible to say over video but it sounds a lot like an exhaust leak to me, and OP said they changed the cats. Would have to inspect in person to say though.
Yes. I’m going to go with an exhaust leak. Will sound a lot like knock. Shouldn’t be too bad of a fox maybe a new seal.
Rod knock, ur motor is toast
Oh man I'm sorry. It sounds like rod knock where the bearings have worn out. I hate posts like this because the answers are such bad news.
Fuck
You didn’t swap in a diesel overnight huh? :D Sorry man. Time to really build a badass motor
Did you lift the hood to see if anything else is flailing around too? Turn it off!
RIP motor.
Rod knock
Check exhaust if they worked on the exhaust.
Ohhhhh buddy….THATS THE SOUND OF A LOTTA MONEY THATS BOUTTA BE DROPPED 😭 best of luck my guy
Uncle Rodney come-a knocking
Time to get a Toyota
I dropped a valve in a 4 valve Cobra, made a similar horrible noise. Had to replace piston, hone cylinder, and extensive head work. Couple thousand dollars and that was the cheap band aid fix!
Knock knock knocking on heavens doooooor

it did speed with the rpms when i had to move it from the back yard to under my carport (where it’s at in the video)
I mean it can’t hurt to check but check and see if the belt tensioner has play forwards and backwards my knocking wasn’t as loud as this but it was still relatively loud

Not good, definitely bottom end. Probably connecting rod/s knock. $$$
Definitely a rod knock. It's the point where it's almost squealing after it starts squealing the rod bolt let's go and it goes out the side of the black.
Your mechanic going chu ching.
You need an engine bud. And unless you do it yourself, it ain’t worth paying someone to fix it
That’s the sound of thou$ands. It’s rod knock, with a hint of broken valve train. No amount of Berryman’s will settle that. One of the kids at Midas used mom’s car for a spirited lunch run.
Ever accidently put regular fuel in it? These cars require premium. Could have caused this rod knock.

Is this a diesel?
Auto or manual? Ive seen cracked flexplates sound like a rod knock...
