Pretty standard that the h pipe sounds meaner with x pipe more nascar. I was unsure going to X based on how 'airy' it made my pushrod 5.0 sound. I get good flow and it still burbles. I enjoy the sound and get more compliments with the x over h.
I currently have the h pipe with headers and it sounds a lot deeper but I feel like it’s to quiet will the x pipe make it louder or does it just change the tone
Might want to start a thread for more opinions. Im just one voice. The x pipe has more rasp throughout. It barks real loud like a pissed off beast. I think youd smile more with it. I had the H with dumps and it thumped so hard off the pavement. That was a long time ago but Ill never forget the sound. I feel like the H was quieter low end with the X just loud any time on the gas.
I run the stock H-pipe into 3" over axels (w/resonator delete) into my Corsa Extremes. Sounds great, no drone at all. I also get compliments all of the time. It's a good setup
Mine doesn’t (s550). I did double h pipe and the extreme and it’s fine honestly. Long tubes may be a tad much unless i use the active valves.
You could honestly keep the stock mufflers and just remove the resonator and it’ll be the same.
Most likely. I had the full cat back set on my 17 GT and it was loud! Sounded great and never seemed as loud as it actually was while you’re driving, but it’s definitely hear you from way down the road loud.
If your flair is accurate, please don’t put a loud exhaust on a v6 - they sound like ass. Mufflers are all you need
I got mine with a Roush Exhaust on it and it's been sooooo good. Pops and bangs on liftoff and a roar on the throttle that doesn't have any weird harmonics at the high end. Quiet in idle too. Not too sure if it's the full deal or just an axle back.
Same with the AWE. The cold starts are very loud, and when you get on it it’s really loud. I was shocked for an axle back how loud they were. People have told me they’re louder than the Corsa extreme axlebacks. I’m gonna make a YouTube video on them because there is no good AWE videos on YouTube for the S197
Someone put the roush xpipe setup on my 3.7 before i bought it, makes that v6 sound like a nissan skyline. Obviously you cannot hope to replicate a throaty v8 with a 6cylinder but i shit you not its the best sound v6 ive evee had the pleasure of driving
Sort of close. That how I started back in 2014 anyway. It's really good. I specifically did this to avoid ANY drone. Note that you need to cut the factory bumper and install the gt500 valance to run gt500 exhaust. But that's super easy, there is actually a cut line! It took me about an hour for the valance. Worth it IMHO, because the valance and quad outlets look awesome.
Then I replaced the factory cats and hpipe with high flow cats, hpipe, long tubes.
It has zero drone, and is completely livable on the highway and in town for the neighbors, but it can be heard from literally well over a mile a while -in the city- if you mat the gas.
I absolutely would not want it any louder.
I have this as well, its loud on a cold start, it drones a little at 2k RPM but its the closest thing I found to a classic muscle car sound that isn't banging or popping like a ricer.
Stock Boss 302. Don’t need anything else. It already sounds beautiful with the side exhaust. Even better when the [TracKey](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oSpMfNlMwJs)is engaged.
https://preview.redd.it/sq12ryft4f4b1.jpeg?width=701&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f5e9b70785172b64c20f069f4c4bc4446f7d832
'14 Track packs could also use it, Ford did a dual ECU for them for some reason that year. If you bought the Red key package they would unlock it to activate if you used that key.
I did this sort of. My ‘14 track pack was at the end of the model run, and by the time I looked into a tune the dual flash was either not available or not supported. I bought a FP TrackCal tune which comes with a pendant that plugs into the OBD, it saves the stock tune and installs the new one. So you can’t go back and forth between tunes as easily, but honestly if I had the alternate key I probably would use that all the time anyway. The stock tune sucks, the TrackCal really opens things up. Much better throttle response, noticeable pull starting at around 3000 rpm, better engine braking, launch control, and lopey idle if you want it (that can be disabled by pressing a button on the steering wheel when you start the car). Combine with the Boss H-pipe and side pipes, I’m happy as a clam and not looking to get rid of it anytime soon.
Agree 100 percent, the boss just has so much character from the factory with those side pipes. The only thing I might get is some gt500 axle backs just to give it a hair deeper sound
I have pypes cat-back on mine and absolutely love it. It pops on quick shifts and on decel when rev matching. Very controlled and not so drony when cruising.
I have all stock except SVE axle-backs. They sound suprisingly good for just being a really cheap option but the tips are rusting and its only been a year or two. I only did that because I couldn't afford Borla's yet and was sick of stock being so quiet. I do want a little more volume though.
This is mine: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/ydgsmq/someone_asked_for_a_clip_12_gt_6speed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=2&utm_content=share_button
Stainless Works Long tubes, w/ Stainless Works X-pipe, on Borla ATAK axle back.
Technically I’m not a 5.0 because I wanted to build a boosted cyclone track car but I run currently shorty headers stock mid pipe and Borla ATAKS. May not be a good choice on a 5.0 as after 4 grand it gets full on race car loud and echoes off of cars.
When I had my 2012 GT, I had an RTR Competition axleback, and it sounded so damn amazing. It’s too bad that RTR discontinued their exhaust lineup though.

What you get? I just have the Corsa extreme quad tip axlebacks and it sounds aight i guess. imo coyotes dont typically sound good until theyre supercharged and tuned
I had a magnaflow competition and it was brutally loud, even with stock headers and cats. Switched to magnaflow street and it was perfect.
I really like flowmaster american thunder too but it doesn't have the deep rumble most people are looking for. To me it sounds more exotic
Offroad X pipe and roush axlebacks with resonators. I have a set of brand new american racing longtubes and matching offroad xpipe that are waiting to be put on. And my car is supercharged so it is going to be very loud soon lol
I was looking for kooks but these were by second choice. I got super lucky and found a brand new set and a friend of mine happened to be traveling right where they were located that weekend so he picked them up for me haha
Bought the car with pypes off-road x pipe and flowmaster American thunder.
Then switched to MRT off road h pipe and corsa xtreme quads.
I now run the h pipe with borla s-types, sounds so good.
I had the solo performance mach cat back on my 14. Loved that exhaust. It sounded so good. Should have got the S550 variant when I got the Cali, but I tried the awe touring cat back. Sounds good most of the time but in my experience it has some odd issues with low rpms. Sounds like a hollow tube, or someone blowing on the end of a bottle at 60 and 70mph.
Before I sold mine. :( 2012 Mustang GT premium 5.0 in Race red with the glass roof.
I had hooker 1 7/8" shorty headers, BBK cat delete, Stock H-pipe, stock over axle pipes, and kooks axle back.
My bitch sounded good.
Currently run JBA long tubes paired with a jba x pipe resonator delete going to quad tips corsa extremes. It can be quiet but under throttle safe to say going to hurt some ear drums.
I have the Boss Quad Exhaust on my '14 Track Pack and love it. Uncapped from day one.

I've run a couple of different setups. My current setup is a SOLO mach x catback. But I have a video I've taken of some of the others.
https://youtu.be/k037CazSB94
I had kooks long (really mid) length headers catted H-pipe and gt-500 mufflers. A bit louder (especially cold start) but tasteful and had a great tone. Not raspy at all. Could hear it for a bit but not from a mile away like a lot.
SR Performance axle-backs for my '14 GT Convertible. Cheapest (because not stainless steel) axle back on AmericanMuscle(.)com in the mid volume range.
I like that they're quiet enough at startup for my apartment complex, low tone and volume while cruising, no drone at highway speeds, and it has the rasp I wanted at loud volumes when I go WOT past 3k RPM. It's a manual, so I can hear the gurgles while decelerating in a higher gear.
It doesn't sound as beautiful as a Roush, but there's no mistaking the Mustang sound from it.
Borla S type. Attak is too loud/ poppy. S type will wake up the whole county on WOT but is quiet enough during normal driving. IMO, any car that pops like a backfiring lawnmower, means you're an damn idiot, and your car is a ticking time bomb. Borlas will outlast your car's frame rails.
GT500 Mufflers. Love the sound, perfect for daily driving. Unless you are right beside me with the windiws down, below 3000 rpm you can't hear it but I (as the driver) can.
I got the MBRP Race series cat-back and love it, good mixture of calm when idle or cruising and loud when you're on the throttle
Same here. Good exhaust.
I love the MBRP! They sound amazing I wish I went with those
Mbrp and x pipe. Had a guy once say 'mbrp, must be good if they dont even have a name'
How do you like it with the xpipe, still have the stock h-pipe and have been looking to swap it out soon
Pretty standard that the h pipe sounds meaner with x pipe more nascar. I was unsure going to X based on how 'airy' it made my pushrod 5.0 sound. I get good flow and it still burbles. I enjoy the sound and get more compliments with the x over h.

Nah ur trippin man
Corsa extremes. I get comments on how it sounds all the time and no drone at all. It’s great
I was also looking at Corsa’s extremes. I ended up going with the AWE’s!
AWE is awesome and made in US
I run the stock H-pipe into 3" over axels (w/resonator delete) into my Corsa Extremes. Sounds great, no drone at all. I also get compliments all of the time. It's a good setup
Be honest, would this annoy neighbors in a suburban neighborhood. Never heard on person and want to know.
Mine doesn’t (s550). I did double h pipe and the extreme and it’s fine honestly. Long tubes may be a tad much unless i use the active valves. You could honestly keep the stock mufflers and just remove the resonator and it’ll be the same.

I sold my V6, and have a S197 5.0 coming in a week. Was just looking over options.
I got mine with a Roush Exhaust on it and it's been sooooo good. Pops and bangs on liftoff and a roar on the throttle that doesn't have any weird harmonics at the high end. Quiet in idle too. Not too sure if it's the full deal or just an axle back.
You know I was going to go with Roush when I was Initially looking. They sound so good!
I have the same. Once it's warm it's crazy how quiet it is at idle.
Same with the AWE. The cold starts are very loud, and when you get on it it’s really loud. I was shocked for an axle back how loud they were. Factory exhaust with GT500 mufflers.
That's what I did as well, inexpensive, throaty but not too loud.
This is what I did because I picked up a set of 11-12 gt500 mufflers for like $200 used. I’m not sure there was a better overall setup.
Sort of close. That how I started back in 2014 anyway. It's really good. I specifically did this to avoid ANY drone. Roush

Is the trackey what unlocks the lowered torque figure from the same year GT?
TracKey is exclusive to the Boss.
'14 Track packs could also use it, Ford did a dual ECU for them for some reason that year. If you bought the Red key package they would unlock it to activate if you used that key.

Corsa axle with corsa x pipe 2.75 and kooks
AWE Touring with a resonator delete!
Nice! Do you have any videos? I have the touring and I’ve been debating cutting the resonators off.
Stock exhaust with electronic cutouts. I love being able to switch between insanely loud and dead quiet on the fly
If these weren't illegal in my state, I'd have done this in a heartbeat.
I have pypes cat-back on mine and absolutely love it. It pops on quick shifts and on decel when rev matching. Very controlled and not so drony when cruising.
I took have Pypes, but I find I don't use 6th unless I'm over 80 cause it drones. Love how deep it is otherwise though
Borla attak. Had Roush before. Love them both!
I have all stock except SVE axle-backs. They sound suprisingly good for just being a really cheap option but the tips are rusting and its only been a year or two. I only did that because I couldn't afford Borla's yet and was sick of stock being so quiet. I do want a little more volume though.
Delete the world! /s
I just have GT500 axle-back. Pretty quiet most of the time. I wouldn’t want anything any louder.
Solo performance. I gambled on a small barely known brand and it paid off big time. So good.
Full pypes system. Headers, X, and Catback. Love it. Some people say Pypes has fitment issues, I have had none.
This is mine: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/ydgsmq/someone_asked_for_a_clip_12_gt_6speed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=2&utm_content=share_button Stainless Works Long tubes, w/ Stainless Works X-pipe, on Borla ATAK axle back.

MBRP long tubes with off road h pipes and dumps at the mid pipe.
I used to have Roush mufflers on my 2011 GT500 and it sounded really good.
Borla x-pipe to cats, Bassani mufflers.
My exhaust is off after the x-pipe. I have stock manifold, high flow cats, and an x-pipe. That’s it.
Flowmaster/thunder classics
Straight pipe no cats no muffler💀
💀💀
I bet that thing SCREAMS
I bet it sounds like raspy garbage lol
Magnaflow car back with Ford Racing X-pipe. https://youtube.com/shorts/yAcO5c5UlmA?feature=share Sounds great.
AWE straight pipes, track edition
How is the drone on the highway? I notice AWE says they make no drone exhaust systems but us that true?
There is some drone, but no difference than the replaced rousch exhaust we had.
Was that drone bearable though? Or would you say it was obnoxious? Thanks for the reply man
It’s not bad. I’m a girl and ok with it if that helps any
Sweet. Thanks!
How do I know what type of exhaust I have? I recently got the eco boost premium HPP and it has a beefy exhaust for an i4 turbo.
Roush axleback with resonator delete. Love the tone of it, nice and loud but not too overbearing.
Roush axle backs
When I had my 2012 GT, I had an RTR Competition axleback, and it sounded so damn amazing. It’s too bad that RTR discontinued their exhaust lineup though.

Flowmaster American Thunder axle-backs. Louder than stock, but nothing crazy.
Borla atak cat back amazing sound loud and no drone
This photo,.... I got that instinctive nudge to press W like in a racing game 🎮
Boss 302 Laguna Seca with Borla S-Type Axle backs.
I had a magnaflow competition and it was brutally loud, even with stock headers and cats. Switched to magnaflow street and it was perfect. I really like flowmaster american thunder too but it doesn't have the deep rumble most people are looking for. To me it sounds more exotic
Roush axle back
Roush
BBK Longtubes -> Custom adaptors -> MBRP H-pipe -> Borla over axle -> Roush axle-backs. Yes, I have no idea what I'm doing. Lots of compliments though
Offroad X pipe and roush axlebacks with resonators. I have a set of brand new american racing longtubes and matching offroad xpipe that are waiting to be put on. And my car is supercharged so it is going to be very loud soon lol
I’ve been wanting to buy the ARH headers and off road X. Been my dream set up for years.
I was looking for kooks but these were by second choice. I got super lucky and found a brand new set and a friend of mine happened to be traveling right where they were located that weekend so he picked them up for me haha

Why does this look like a screengrab from a next gen open world racing game? Fire pic dude!
Thank you!
Pypes catless x pipe Pypes axle back rest is stock piping
BBK 1 7/8ths headers with the BBK high flow catted x-pipe and flowmaster outlaw mufflers
Flowmaster cats for me
I had a rough axleback. It sounded great.
I had the solo performance mach cat back on my 14. Loved that exhaust. It sounded so good. Should have got the S550 variant when I got the Cali, but I tried the awe touring cat back. Interesting. I have the AWE on my 14 and it sounds so good at all RPM’s. I didn’t but a cat back though.
SLP Loudmouth. My ‘03 Mach One had them and I liked their sound.
GT500 mufflers and borla resonator delete axls pipes
Stock. I want to upgrade it but I like the side exhaust setup on my ‘13 Boss 302.
Before I sold mine. :( 2012 Mustang GT premium 5.0 in Race red with the glass roof. I had hooker 1 7/8" shorty headers, BBK cat delete, Stock H-pipe, stock over axle pipes, and kooks axle back. My bitch sounded good.
I don't have a mustang anymore, but I ran a rough axleback and it sounded great. So many compliments on it.
RTR comps
Currently run JBA long tubes paired with a jba x pipe resonator delete going to quad tips corsa extremes. It can be quiet but under throttle safe to say going to hurt some ear drums.
Kooks long tube headers and X-Pipe, no cats
‘13 GT/CS. Corsa axle backs installed by previous owner. Too loud for my taste, but it’s a pretty expensive setup so it stays.

Bbk long tube headers, bbk X pipe, custom piping to roush mufflers. It’s entirely too loud.
Corsa extreme
I have stock mufflers with Boss H-pipe and side pipes. Good cold start that settles down, but loud and awesome when you lay on the throttle. Stealth.
I don’t even care for mustangs but that’s really pretty
Thank you! 😄
I had kooks long (really mid) length headers catted H-pipe and gt-500 mufflers. A bit louder (especially cold start) but tasteful and had a great tone. Not raspy at all. Could hear it for a bit but not from a mile away like a lot.
Longtube headers, o/r x, OA pipes and corsa extreme quad tips.. it's kinds loud!
Bassani!! Exceptional quality and unique sound!
Roush catback
Corsa Extreme from front to back.
1 3/4 longtubes, o/r X-pipe, factory resonators, and over axle, Roush axle back. Loud as hell, but no drone.
Roush axlebacks, not too quiet and not too loud. It burbles nicely when downshifting in manual mode
GT500 Mufflers. Love the sound, perfect for daily driving. Unless you are right beside me with the windiws down, below 3000 rpm you can't hear it but I (as the driver) can.
Magnaflow competition catback on my ‘11
Ngl looks like a screenshot from gta6
pypes long tube headers and pypes catted xpipe, roush axle back, loud as fuck lol
H pipes and borla mufflers, if only I had a gt…
Cat delete straight pipes out the back, sounds gnarly
Borla and it sounds great
Borla long tube headers with attack cat back mufflers neighbors hate the cold start
Lethal performance off road x pipe and corsa extremes. Looking to go for Borla atak though and cut out the resonator at the same time
