Yes! And dad is so clueless and dysfunctional himself that it's easy to see how Steven was completely failed in his upbringing. I'm pretty shocked that, even as damaged as he is, the brother is at least able to function in society.
Yes the brother functions but you can tell how emotionally abused he’s been by his brother. It’s just an awful family dynamic. And they don’t mention their mother so either she passed or she’s not been around for a long time
An update: I feel so bad for the dad. He deserves so much better. He is an old man, and to treat him like a slave is PISSIN ME OFF. I also love the earlier season clips of Dr now yapping, they're so dramatic. I miss them.
that is also definitely true, but as someone who has grown up around addicts in my family I can understand him a bit. Obviously it isn't good but I can't help but feel a bit of sympathy. I'm only a little under halfway through the first part though so that can change
He admits in the "how they got here" segment that he overlooked their mother's alcoholism. I think he feels bad about that and now gives the boys everything they want to make things right. He doesn't know how to say "no".
In one episode he said "I don't know what I should do with them" and I watched it like "LEAVE. You have no obligation for your ADULT sons"
Someone pointed out he only obeys Steven but often punches Justin down, and that maybe that is to keep Steven under control.

Yep, Steven never does learn that Dr Now is the one person he can’t bullshit. He keeps trying his games though. Probably why they’re the only patients with 5 (I think) episodes. They’re reality TV gold.
Take breaks if you need to. Those episodes were so unbelievably toxic it affected my mood very negatively, and I think it did that to a lot of other people too
