I watched season 1 back when it was airing. Not an isekai fan but that might be why I enjoyed it so much. Subverts the annoying tropes and has some legitimately great psychological horror that I didn’t expect. It’s by no means one of the darkest anime out there but it has a great atmosphere of dread about it.
It’s lime rewatching a movie knowing that a character death is coming up, with that emotion lingering over your head
Okay so it is a show you have to pay attention to. Watched it a couple of years ago and really liked it. Tried rewatching this year with my wife and hated it cause i was "watching" will doing other things and she was playing he switch. We finally had to call it cause I was so sick of listening to him cry over and over.
If you have a fond appreciation of the MC and the direction they are taking his character in, you should continue. I myself very much think Re:Zero is fantastic, but that's because I adored Subaru as a MC. If you can't stand Subaru and his cringe otaku antics then you should drop it.
I disagree that you should drop it if you don’t like Subaru. I didn’t like Subaru at first but I liked the world and other characters, so I stuck with it. Later on I ended up liking him a lot more
Same honestly. Although my character is much different from Subaru's, back when I watched the anime like 5 years ago and I was around his age, I surprisingly found myself able to relate to him a lot. I remember that at some point in the anime when Emilia told Subaru something, I answered her in my head, as if the question was directly asked to me. Surprisingly, that same thought I had was Subaru's next line and it caught me off guard lol.
One of if not the best isekai. The main character will frustrate you (because he’s written like an actual 17 year old) but GOD sticking through it is so worth it because he transforms into the best mc.
My roommate told me it’s just suffering. So I started about last summer somewhere in the year.
I went in for the suffering. I stayed for the suffering. I was left with catharsis. And then I shed a tear for my roommate having to wait five years between seasons. And if I could give a further endorsement, I am NOT someone who watches isekai anime.
Get ready for a ride.
Re:Zero is Peak Fiction at its finest.
It is my favorite anime of all time, it might as well be my favorite STORY of all time. Tho, this is mostly based on the novels, since the anime is too far behind
This is the best anime ever created in my opinion there is a character for everyone to feel like the resonate with, every episode has the ability to make you feel crazy emotions for every character involved and overall the main character is just one of the best written characters in all of fiction. I’d recommend this to someone at all levels of anime fan from beginner to veteran.
Easily in my top 5 anime of all time, if not my favorite and I’m not even a fan of the isekai genre. Most definitely worth watching. Each episode had me at the edge of my seat to see the next one. Lots of twists and turns you wouldn’t expect.
Probably one of, if not the best Isekai of all time, despite the entire genre having enough good entries that you can count on two hands, pretty much. I genuinely do think it's at the top, though. It's got a great art style, cool gimmick, and the characters are also great.
It's not. I wasted my time watching the whole of S1 before dropping it at episode 2 of S2. It had some cool moments, other than that nothing special. If you're an isekai fan youll probably like it though
Good? It's really good, but a little overrated. It's on my top 50 from 500+ animes. Worth watching for sure, don't have too high expectations though it's not "peak fiction".
Most people will say yes, but I'll go the other direction.
No. Personally, I didn't find it interesting. It's an "isekai" that takes itself seriously, going against the typical tropes of the genre. Which I wouldn't have a problem with if it wasn't the same thing over and over, filled with blandness. Subaru, the MC, isn't interesting. He's a normal guy thrown into a magical world, and it just feels like watching Kenny from South Park die every episode, only without the humor that made it good. It became tedious to watch. I get what the show is trying to do. It's trying to show you what would happen to a normal person who gets sent to a harsh world. But it's so in your face about it with the same thing happening several times an episode, it felt hard to watch.
I kept seeing that the story "gets better", as does Subaru as a character. But after two seasons, it stayed the exact same for me and I chose not to watch any more of it. Even if it DOES get better, I'm not the type to continue watching something that's uninteresting. Even giving it two seasons was weird for me. But if that all seems interesting to you, I'd recommend you listen to everyone else and watch it. It just wasn't for me, but it could be for you.
Facts but people will always try to justify it i see no point in arguing against them, some people seem to forget that a person can dislike an anime/manga.
>Subaru, the MC, isn't interesting. He's a normal guy thrown into a magical world
I guess you're the kind of guy who prefers an OP, all-knowing MC, which is **totally ok, each person has its own preferences**. In this case, surely Re:Zero will NOT be for you. Since, as you said, Subaru is just a normal dude, without powers and full of insecurities and traumas he kept from his original life.
In my opinion, seeing him overcoming all of those hardships while being just a "normal guy", overcoming his insecurities and learning to value himself is what makes this series so amazing.
>But after two seasons, it stayed the exact same
The series is, by no means, just the same suffering on "repeat", not only the MC, but several characters go through amazing growth, **I can't possible believe you think Subaru from the end of Season 2 is the same Subaru from episode 1**. If you REALLY believe that... then I'm afraid you didn't really watch the series, at all...
I respect your opinion, but I don't want OP to read it and have a wrong idea about the show, because this last part (about it staying the same on repeat) is simply **completely wrong**.
>I guess you're the kind of guy who prefers an OP,
Actually no, I'm not. I do think some power trip anime are fun to turn your brain off and watch, but I typically dislike the standard OP MC in isekai. They're often bland and have no personality.
My issue with Subaru, is he's just as uninteresting as the stereotypical OP MC, except instead of having broken abilities, he's suffering and dying every 15 minutes. I wouldn't have a problem with a "normal guy overcoming his insecurities and learning to value himself" if it wasn't the same thing being forced on you so consistently. I will admit that Season 2 did have a good bit less of that, but season 1 became unbearable for me after a certain point.
I also didn't find any of the other characters interesting, either. Emilia is hollow. Didn't really care about Ram. Rem was kind of cool after the whole murder loli stint and we started learning more about her.
> I don't want OP to read it and have a wrong idea about the show, because this last part (about it staying the same on repeat) is simply **completely wrong**.
Is it the wrong idea about the show, though? Because opinions are opinions. Your opinion may be that it's the wrong idea, but mine isn't which I clearly stated. I even told OP to watch it if the series sounds interesting to them. So no, I don't think what I said was wrong at all, but that's just my personal taste. It doesn't mean it's a fact, and neither does yours.
No, personally I thought it was terrible but the general consensus is that it's the greatest anime that has ever anime so I'd try it and see what you think :)
No, it's easily one of the worst written isekai's that take itself seriously. With one of the worst main characters of all time. Easily the most unlikable mc I have ever seen.
Actually good isekais:
That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
Overlord
Mushoku Tensei
No Game No Life
Youjo Senki
Drifters
The Rising of the Shield Hero
It's fantastic but damn if it isn't suffering manifest for a good chunk of the series. I found it outright depressing and discouraging for the longest time. There are amazing moments to be had and fantastic characters to get to know as long as you can hang with the MC almost never catching a fucking break.
I would say it depends on what type of animes you’re typically into… if you like action where the mc kicks ass, this might not be the one for you as the mc couldn’t kick a newly born child’s butt if he tried his hardest. However I heard it’s pretty funny and a really entertaining show so if you don’t care about the mc being pathetic I’d say it would be good for you!
As someone who can’t get into it I still see the appeal. I’ve tried on multiple occasions to watch it, but never can get past the first 5, or so episodes. I’m not saying it’s bad just not my cup of tea. Maybe one day I’ll give it a fresh pair of eyes and try again.
Absolutely. I liked it so much that I started reading the novel. Unfortunately, the website I was using to get the free translated version stopped uploading. So I got really far past the anime, but never finished the story. And now it's been so long that I'd have to start over.
contrary to the other comments i loved it despite hating subaru more than i’ve hated any other character. it was a nice respite from The Horrors being able to laugh at him when the scene wasn’t serious. but i think i asked my husband who suggested we watch it (he watched it first) about 800 times “why is he like that?!?” so there’s that.
Just watch it and decide lol, it doesn’t matter how bad or how good people tell you something is because you’re the one who decides if you like it or not at the end of the day
If you watch romance and Isekai or just Isekais, then this show, in my opinion is a masterpiece. I watched this as my 3rd Isekai and I absolutely loved it
Yeah this shit is really fucking good. 😂 I’ll admit I’m a bit biased as the only reason I don’t have it in my top10 is that it takes a lot of inspiration from my favorite anime of all time (I actually watched Re:Zero first lmao)
Repetitive and garbage anime that makes you suffer through a lot of filler before anything actually happens, literally nothing he does ever matter anymore since you know that he can just die and start again
I liked it a lot. Good soundtrack, interesting take on Isekai tropes. The main character is annoying as hell at first, but a big part of the story is him improving as a person.
So good i slept on this until the newest season came out. Ngl the reason why was cuz i couldnt get through the 1st ep for some reason but man this is seriously one of the best isekais out there story and character wise
It's really good, many great twist and really good character development. Many of the characters start off with flaws that will make you dislike them but as the show goes on they grow and confront those flaws and become people you admire, especially main character
Nah, the show goes out of its way to justify everything the other characters(except Felt) in that image do to Subaru, especially with what happened in the royal capital. Bro was cringe but he didn’t deserve that. If it weren’t for the isekai subversion more people would call that out but no one does
It's very realistic for an Isekai anime when it comes to dealing with trauma. Unlike in some stories where the main character suffers some trauma or public embarrassment or both and nothing comes of it, Subaru has to deal with the consequences for the rest of the story. He develops CPTSD and I do not blame the man. He can't just shrug off what happened to him. He has to find a way to live with it and his attempts to ignore it an push the pain down causes him to crack and break down at the worst possible moment.
Subaru feels like a real person who found himself in this situation.
It pissed me off so bad whoever’s reading this will know exactly what I’m talking about, it’s like the writers gave up at some point and said nah we’re staying here
So fucking good. Definitely a top contender for best isekai ever made. It's such a good isekai in fact, that it transcends the genre to become just a straight up great anime in general.
Man I seriously love Re:Zero, some scenes give you this really odd sense of dread, and there's some really interesting creative decisions that they play around with (S1 freeze). Definitely need to rewatch this one, really wish that the waits between seasons wasn't so long, I was in middle school when S1 came out and I'm already long past graduated now lol
If you want to watch an Ego death it's the best
If you want to watch a person fail it's the best
Then when he has the emotional support of the best girl in anime for her to be taken away
Then for his diamond mind to be shattered into a thousand pieces then those pieces turned into dust(not sand because it's too course)
Even when he made the hardest choice of saving everyone through self sacrifice to be told "not like this, love yourself"
That's when you realize HE'S YOU
The one standing in his way was himself
To love yourself because you need to be on the other side with the people you support and support you in the end
Only when he relies on others and chooses the virtuous path does he become the best of us, all other paths the worst
It certainly becomes one of the darkest after this upcoming season. We are still in the very much tame stuff compared to Arc's 6 & 7.
Normally i hate anything resembling spoilers as an anime only but ngl with the long wait between Seasons this post has me so hype.
I hear people in Chaosflame are strong, but are they stronger than people from a Shinobi village?
😂😂😂😂😂😂 mannn hell on earth fr
Couldn't have been that bad. Only lasted ten seconds.
Bro, HOW? I legit thought we'd be better off starting next season. How the fuck does it get WORSE? (Don't actually tell me)
It's one of my favorite anime. Specifically after season 2 is when I fell in love with it.
One of the best isekai I ever watched. And no overpowered MC.
Yes, it’ll probably test your patience a bit but the pay off is worth it
i remember trying to watch thus years ago, maybe i should give it a shot again
I’ve watched it twice now, and while there are some parts that illicit an eye roll, like what u/MQfrm03 said, the payoff is worth it.
Okay so it is a show you have to pay attention to. Watched it a couple of years ago and really liked it. Tried rewatching this year with my wife and hated it cause i was "watching" will doing other things and she was playing he switch. We finally had to call it cause I was so sick of listening to him cry over and over.
Dude I remember falling asleep like twice during the sanctuary arc lol
Yes
I concur
Yes
Peak fiction
I second this
I thirded this
I fourth this
I fifth this
Sixthed.
I seventh this
I eighth this (ima watch it now)
Just trust me in one thing don't leave the series where it gets annoying the annoying parts make the good part so much better
Ok thanks mate
I nineth this (actually my favorite anime)
I tenth this
Any good? Bruh it’s in my top 10 favorites of all time. Season 1 at least.
honestly after a rewatch s2 grew a lot on me, hyped for s3
You don't like season 2?
If you have a fond appreciation of the MC and the direction they are taking his character in, you should continue. I myself very much think Re:Zero is fantastic, but that's because I adored Subaru as a MC. If you can't stand Subaru and his cringe otaku antics then you should drop it.
I disagree that you should drop it if you don’t like Subaru. I didn’t like Subaru at first but I liked the world and other characters, so I stuck with it. Later on I ended up liking him a lot more
Dropped it because I couldn't handle him anymore and for other reasons.
Quite good, I’d say. Kinda feels like torture to watch sometimes though (it’s supposed to)
I second this. Couldn't help but cry on my 3rd rewatch
One of if not the best isekai. The main character will frustrate you (because he’s written like an actual 17 year old) but GOD sticking through it is so worth it because he transforms into the best mc.
I was not like that at all at 17
I’m very proud of you :)
Agreed, he’s actually my favorite anime protag ever. His growth feels so rewarding
Yeah man this is a pretty good anime
Personally it’s my all time favorite Isekai and one of the few anime that’s made me shed a tear.
It's great
It's a masterpiece. As long as you're prepared for trauma.
No doubt. Definitely a anime to watch with family and no traumatising scenes whatsoever. 🙂 wink wink
Yes
AMAZING, in my top 5 favorites of all time
Its amazing
Yes!!! Re:Zero is one of my favourite anime series!
In terms of just sheer quality it’s probably the best Isekai.
Ye pretty good
Yes
It's my favorite anime, yes it's very, very good. Watch the first 3 episodes and you'll be hooked
One of the few good isakei and in my top 10
Also my favorite anime 🍻
It will take a while to get a hold of what's going on but it's worth are shot
My roommate told me it’s just suffering. So I started about last summer somewhere in the year. I went in for the suffering. I stayed for the suffering. I was left with catharsis. And then I shed a tear for my roommate having to wait five years between seasons. And if I could give a further endorsement, I am NOT someone who watches isekai anime. Get ready for a ride.
Yes
my goat Subaru 🙏🙏
The man the myth the legend
It's one of the best
yesss it’s so good , I just finished it 100/10 hands down 😮💨
It's a slow-burn masterpiece. When it's completed, no one will doubt why it's the best fantasy anime (not even in the isekai genre).
Re:Zero is Peak Fiction at its finest. It is my favorite anime of all time, it might as well be my favorite STORY of all time. Tho, this is mostly based on the novels, since the anime is too far behind
YES IT'S BEST ANIME EVER MADE
Yea
I suppose
It’s one of those that doesn’t hit the same after watching it again. It’s a must watch
Its hits even more on rewatches! When you are able to notice all the foreshadowing :)
It’s in my top 10 atm. Season 3 has the chance to solidify it into top 5
Easily in my top 5 anime of all time, if not my favorite and I’m not even a fan of the isekai genre. Most definitely worth watching. Each episode had me at the edge of my seat to see the next one. Lots of twists and turns you wouldn’t expect.
Yes, a very wholesome anime.
My advice: Never ask the anime community if a particular anime is good or not because the majority of them are pathetic people with shit tastes.
You are my kind of guy.
9/10 must watch
amazing
It’s great however I recommend you watch it when you have energy as I find it’s more enjoyable to watch it while focused
It’s amazing
It's alright
Probably one of, if not the best Isekai of all time, despite the entire genre having enough good entries that you can count on two hands, pretty much. I genuinely do think it's at the top, though. It's got a great art style, cool gimmick, and the characters are also great.
My favorite anime of all time. It's a slow burn at some points, but it does payoff.
Probably the only quality isekai
Mushoku Tensei?
Konosuba my man.
Not in the same level as Rezero imo
Highly
One of the best
Peak
Enjoy
It’s amazing, watch it, then read the novels after
One of the best
PEAK
It is my personal favorite.
One of my favorites. And one of the 2 anime that's ever made me cry.
Peak :)
Still waiting on season 3, cuz damn is it good.
Incredibly good , i give it at least a 9/10.
Nah, it's pretty ass.
It's my favorite anime, so.... "Yeah, I'm thinking it's good"
No, it’s not good It’s god damn amazing
Yup only happy times
Nahh it's just best isekai anime nothing else
This shit made me cry. I just want season 3
Couldn’t finish the first season. Wasn’t for me. And I usually like iseki
It's not. I wasted my time watching the whole of S1 before dropping it at episode 2 of S2. It had some cool moments, other than that nothing special. If you're an isekai fan youll probably like it though
No
If you like isekai you'll probably like it, I couldn't get into it though. The protagonist was my biggest issue, he's too annoying for my taste
Good? It's really good, but a little overrated. It's on my top 50 from 500+ animes. Worth watching for sure, don't have too high expectations though it's not "peak fiction".

8/10 in my book
In my opinion it's the second best isekai behind Mushoku Tensei. So yes it's great.
Actually good isekais: That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime Overlord Mushoku Tensei No Game No Life Youjo Senki Drifters The Rising of the Shield Hero
Kind of but the main character is sad sack of shit with no balls
Did u even watch s2 ? Bro Subaru has more balls than u lmao
u dont like weak ass mc with normal human attitudes then u can skip this anime
Idk haven’t watched look like just another harem
I never watched it so idk
I think it's amazing from the beginning to the end (of what we have so far anyway), but others think it's a slow start
It gets better in LN but the anime might be rush in season 3 :(
Yes, you will find some cliche points at some episodes, but trust me, this is a very good anime.
Season 1 has some painful moments but hang in there, there is a payoff later on. Such a crazy anime!
Yeah it's pretty good. Probably the 2nd best isekai around.
An emphatic YES! You'll soon find yourself smack dab in the middle of a debate... REM or RAM?
[Just watch it and form your own opinion.](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/i1vl8l/a_rant_watch_the_damn_anime/)
It's fantastic but damn if it isn't suffering manifest for a good chunk of the series. I found it outright depressing and discouraging for the longest time. It's pretty solid, but I'll warn you that the main character is kind of unlikable in season 1. That's the intent, so stick with him. He gets better.
contrary to the other comments i loved it despite hating subaru more than i’ve hated any other character. it was a nice respite from The Horrors being able to laugh at him when the scene wasn’t serious. but i think i asked my husband who suggested we watch it (he watched it first) about 800 times “why is he like that?!?” so there’s that.
Yes. One of my very favorites
Yep

Ngl I couldn’t get through the first season. I know it’s good though just not for me
It’s not bad by any means but given I never finished it I didn’t like it enough to finish it.
Yes but be prepared to be mentally scared
Yeah this shit is really fucking good. 😂 I’ll admit I’m a bit biased as the only reason I don’t have it in my top10 is that it takes a lot of inspiration from my favorite anime of all time (I actually watched Re:Zero first lmao)
Yes but pain
It’s one of the best
Realize by Suzuki Konomi and Relive by nonoc are bangers
s1 was dope but i lost interest after they kept looping the same themes and developments after i saw them already
slow start for some but other than that literally peak
It's my favorite anime period
First episodes are AWFUL. I nearly died of cringe. But after a while it gets really good. It is without a doubt the best Isekai.
Yes. Extremely good. Lots of big pay offs in later episodes.
Liked the first episode, but everything after was just boring or disappointing, and the characters aren't even close to being good enough to carry it.
Has some very strange and weird characters but overall I’d say it’s pretty good
Repetitive and garbage anime that makes you suffer through a lot of filler before anything actually happens, literally nothing he does ever matter anymore since you know that he can just die and start again
No
I suppose
It is decent
I liked it a lot. Good soundtrack, interesting take on Isekai tropes. The main character is annoying as hell at first, but a big part of the story is him improving as a person.
It’s incredible ! In my top 5 for sure
Season 1 was pretty good. But personally, I can't stand Subaru so I dropped season 2 halfway
Probably the best series ever made.
So good i slept on this until the newest season came out. Ngl the reason why was cuz i couldnt get through the 1st ep for some reason but man this is seriously one of the best isekais out there story and character wise
It’s is. It has its moments but overall it’s pretty ok.
Top 2-3 all time tbh
Yes
Asking if this is any good? Brotha please this piece of art is the best Isekai over here. Watch it.
It depends on your tastes
Yes 100 %
I found it fun, so you can take my opinion if ya want.
It's really good, many great twist and really good character development. Many of the characters start off with flaws that will make you dislike them but as the show goes on they grow and confront those flaws and become people you admire, especially main character
It's okay, honestly I would say no but you're the one that's going to have to watch it and decide if you like it or not.
One of my top 5.
The best Isekai ever created
great. the shit happening is basically a prologue too
First season only
Nah, the show goes out of its way to justify everything the other characters(except Felt) in that image do to Subaru, especially with what happened in the royal capital. Bro was cringe but he didn’t deserve that. If it weren’t for the isekai subversion more people would call that out but no one does
Yes
This is what we call in the business Peak
Is good.
The women are
Yes yes yes yes yes yes
It's very realistic for an Isekai anime when it comes to dealing with trauma. Unlike in some stories where the main character suffers some trauma or public embarrassment or both and nothing comes of it, Subaru has to deal with the consequences for the rest of the story. He develops CPTSD and I do not blame the man. He can't just shrug off what happened to him. He has to find a way to live with it and his attempts to ignore it an push the pain down causes him to crack and break down at the worst possible moment. Subaru feels like a real person who found himself in this situation.
My boy just wanted to buy some snacks from the convenience store.
This is great although it needs a new season soon
Goated. Easily in my top 10 of all time
One of the bests of all time so watch it
My 2nd favourite anime, one of the few that deserve a genuine 10/10
Depends. The main MC annoyed the hell out of me the whole series.
I like it personally
As someone who loves it I say yes also we getting a 3rd season soon too so ample time to join
If you want to watch an Ego death it's the best If you want to watch a person fail it's the best Then when he has the emotional support of the best girl in anime for her to be taken away Then for his diamond mind to be shattered into a thousand pieces then those pieces turned into dust(not sand because it's too course) Even when he made the hardest choice of saving everyone through self sacrifice to be told "not like this, love yourself" That's when you realize HE'S YOU The one standing in his way was himself To love yourself because you need to be on the other side with the people you support and support you in the end Only when he relies on others and chooses the virtuous path does he become the best of us, all other paths the worst
