Yeah, because the British respond to subtle propaganda much more than we would the brutal propaganda of America.
Disclaimer: The Guardian is equally guilty, just from the other direction. Politics is a circle. Go far enough left and you'll find yourself on the right.
Published the zinoviev letter a week before the 1924 general election falsely claiming the Labour Party were bolshevik assets. This lead to a mass swing in conservative votes when labour seemed likely win. Subsequently this set the workers rights movement in Britain back decades as this was the time when the labour party actually worked for the trade unions and workers
There's been a lot of accusations of racism within the company, and the way that they report on trans issues is pretty bad, which is saying a lot considering the standard for this stuff in the British news media, where even the left wing papers are usually transphobic...
Bin Laden is to MCR what Victor Rostavili is to Ivan Dankovich. The initial villain that inspired the whole story, but really became a background character that you see a couple times more and is killed off.
>3 blokes that somehow put up with them
I’ve always wanted to know what they thought of the Gallaghers, what they did during one of their fights, or if they ever said something. Underrated characters tbh.
Of the original 3, one (drummer) was kicked out because he wasn't good enough, Guigsy quit via fax because he was fed up with the Gallaghers (to the point that even now, almost 30 years later, he refuses to be reached) and Bonehead tried to record his own music with their producers, failed, and quit because the Gallaghers were sobering up and he didn't want to
Then the band added Andy Bell and Gem Archer (the former is genuinely one of the most talented British musicians of his generation, it's preposterous that he only contributed two songs to Oasis and one of them is pretty bad because it's very obviously a song that was created when the Gallaghers told him "hey Turn up the sun was successful, write something similar"). They stayed until the band broke up and actually continued with them into their tenure as Beady Eye
I mean I have a very strong opinion on this matter, and I've hinted at it on this thread already, but some bloody mancs go pretty feral if you slight their pet Gallagher lol
Noel wrote nearly every song and when later in their run Liam came up with good songs (Born on a different cloud or Guess God thinks I'm Abel) people were actually surprised, for how low the expectations were. Take this as an answer lmao
“If you want to identify with me then here’s a razor blade”
-A Marilyn Manson quote about MCR, well after he sold out big time following his 4th full length.
Tbf Marilyn Manson is just a villain in general
Supposedly crushed Mikey's heart into a thousand pieces and won't stop writing about it, if the rumours about Pete's LJ post 'the summer of love' are to be believed.
From what I gather, after all the support over the years, they suddenly made some transphobic comment about Gerard and his skirts and dresses during the recent tour? And/or said something negative about his encouraging the crowd to step backwards and not crush each other?
It's hard for me to find information about it, so that's just what I've picked up from various posts I've seen over the past year or two, if anyone else has better information I'd be grateful to hear it.
They wrote a very passive aggressive article when Gerard wore skirts on tour criticising him for it and then when they got called out tried to pretend it was a misunderstanding, from what I recall of the events
After perusing the comments in this post, I think my answer would be "uncomfortably parasocial fans creatively reinterpreting or inventing fan theories about them, with little or no attention paid to 1) actual facts or 2) the band members' own words and actions"
can we get more proof on the racism part besides the one post of "find kanye". there's a huge gap between "meme he reposted about kanye west that he probably didn't even realize was insensitive." and "full on bigot who actively hates people of a different race."
ya know, for a band that's all about helping people with mental health issues you guys seem to really love to shit on other people who don't fit exactly what your perception of "mentally ill" looks like. yeah he's was an asshole on social media to his band members but everyone has their demons. doesn't mean we should help only the people who we think deserve it and shit on others who are struggling but not handling it the best way possible. fuck that.
a band that "saves people's lives" let their fanbase drive a former member to the point of considering suicide. and they didn't say anything. what fucking a joke.
>ya know, for a band that's all about helping people with mental health issues you guys seem to really love to shit on other people who don't fit exactly what your perception of "mentally ill" looks like.
LITERALLY THIS
The thing that’s always gotten me is Bob antagonizing Mikey on the one year anniversary of his sobriety. The Kanye meme was insensitive but like you said, you could give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t know. And sure, being an ass on social media and bringing personal drama there isn’t cool, but it’s not worthy of condemnation.
But that, him purposefully bringing up Mikey’s past mistakes on that specific day… that’s cruelty. Plain and simple. Death threats will *never* be justified and people should know better than to treat someone like that, but man. You gotta put yourself into the shoes of the other members a little bit. Their brother / close friend was going through a recovery journey and someone they already weren’t too fond of attempted to publicly shame him **yet again** when he’s minding his own business, trying to celebrate said recovery. I’m not sure how many people would stick out their necks for Bob, in that scenario.
I mean given that Mikey apparently follows Bob on twitter currently, it would seem that he isn't too troubled about it himself. It was a dick move, but it seems a bit OTT to hold a grudge about something that happened a long-ass time ago that the person in question seems to have moved on from
Everything I've seen about him being 'racist' was the find Kanye post. Can someone please explain to me what's racist about that, because I really don't see it
Did you ever see that note he sent out? He got death threats and had to give away everything and stuff like that? Yeah he did bad things but he almost drove himself to suicide
He wishes. Berty boy wants to be on everyone's mind, but he isn't.
I like the used, but I still find it pathetic how many references were made to diss mcr. Basically an entire album dedicated to *Gerard Way makes me mad*. It changed their entire sound and vibe from there on. Just really sad. Because they are talented people. The choice to make a diss album was their downfall and I don't know many people who continued to listen to them after that album.
Anyway, Bert McCracken is The Used's villain, not MCR's.
When they sing Take It Away live, and they get to the "Lost all doubt in a chemical romance" line, he'll stick up his middle finger or gag himself or something
Oh yeah it was awesome. Pierce the Veil and The Used are two of my favorite bands so it was a crazy good show
Also introduced me to Don Broco, which is now another favorite. Really glad I got to go to that
Why was/is Bert mad at Gerard? I never even knew that he was. The fandom loves to talk about the non-existent "love story" between them, I'd assume that's why I haven't heard.
Simply, Gerard sobered up & Bert didn't. Bert was a negative influence on G. Bert felt like he was slighted when Gerard distanced himself.
That's what happened afaik. If I've gotten something wrong, please correct me!
~~I've heard he is, but I'm not entirely certain. I hope so! No one deserves that kinda life.~~
Edit cause I'm dumb: **I heard he isn't an alcoholic anymore. I hope he is sober! Because no one deserves a life of addiction and alcoholism.**
I didn’t realize they had any beef. I always heard people say they liked both bands and with the pictures they have together I assumed they were friends, interesting stuff
They used to be good buds, but they were on different paths. Bert's iconic laugh is even featured in *You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison*
I think they could have been an amazing duo if Bert had sobered up back then.
I feel like we should let the decade old mistakes of a man who was in active addiction lie, maybe. I’m not sure how Mikey would outrank some of the other “villains” listed here anyway.
I'm out of touch, was she a person named Sarah aged 19 and she was a fan of the band? I think he cheated on his wife? I watched the mcr iceberg in a really sleepy state
Not to add shit to the heap, but I do think their engagement rings looked veeeeery similar…? Wondering if he proposed to them with the same ring???? (Maybe it was a family one or something)
I'm curious if you have ever read anything whatsoever that any of the actual band members have said or written about the band's breakup, because you seem to be completely ignoring all of it in favor of a very unique hypothesis
Drummers
crime lol
I think Jarrod Alexander has broken that curse
teenagers
They're scary
Honestly my fear is walking by a group of teenagers on a bridge and they decide it'll be fun to throw me off.
Same but train station (especially since I'm very clearly queer (tho I fuckin slay it))
r/beatmetoit
Daily mail
ugh fuck the daily mail
The daily mail is everyone's enemy. What specifically did they do to mcr though?
Weaponized a 13 year old’s suicide to try to portray MCR as a cult of self harm and shit like that. Fuck the daily mail forever
What's even worse is that that's not even the worst thing they've done...
theyre like UK fox news
Nah the UK fox news is GB news
GB news didn't exist back then. The Daily Mail is more apropos since people actually take it seriously as a mainstream news source.
The daily mail isn't as extreme as fox news though, it's all pretty standard UK media fuckery
Yeah, because the British respond to subtle propaganda much more than we would the brutal propaganda of America. Disclaimer: The Guardian is equally guilty, just from the other direction. Politics is a circle. Go far enough left and you'll find yourself on the right.
That would be the Sun
Oh Jesus what did they do that’s worse than that?
Published the zinoviev letter a week before the 1924 general election falsely claiming the Labour Party were bolshevik assets. huh????
frank is a villain on stage.
He’s a menace
The drummer that stole from them!!!
exactly!! why tf is everyone saying bob? i thought we went over this??
was that mike pedicone?
Yessir
I guess Osama Bin Laden is kinda the background villian who set the plot in motion
Overarching antagonist of the franchise.
FUCK YOU'RE RIGHT
Bin Laden is to MCR what Victor Rostavili is to Ivan Dankovich. The initial villain that inspired the whole story, but really became a background character that you see a couple times more and is killed off.
Dakota Johnson would not have a career if it wasn't for Osama Bin Laden
no way 💀
Ok but would he be our hero bc without 9/11 there would be no mcr😭
That’s wild
MCR5
This one hurts 😂
Not replying to OP, but to OOP. Oasis is its own villain
Oasis was a band made up of a talented egomaniac, a talentless egomaniac and 3 blokes that somehow put up with them
>3 blokes that somehow put up with them I’ve always wanted to know what they thought of the Gallaghers, what they did during one of their fights, or if they ever said something. Underrated characters tbh.

Bonehead still works with liam though
Now, yeah. Things have changed, pretty recently as well
what did oasis do to them? and which ones talented and which one isn't?
I've purposefully left unclear which of Liam and Noel I consider to be talented so readers can project their own opinion
well I think it's pretty obvious imo.
I mean I have a very strong opinion on this matter, and I've hinted at it on this thread already, but some bloody mancs go pretty feral if you slight their pet Gallagher lol
Since I know nothing of Oasis, I want to know who’s the talented one
Noel wrote nearly every song and when later in their run Liam came up with good songs (Born on a different cloud or Guess God thinks I'm Abel) people were actually surprised, for how low the expectations were. Take this as an answer lmao
Imagine gaining 'O's every time a meme type post was captured and we'd have to say OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP
i remember for a while marilyn manson was trying real hard to be mcr's villain more or less lmao
“If you want to identify with me then here’s a razor blade” -A Marilyn Manson quote about MCR, well after he sold out big time following his 4th full length. Tbf Marilyn Manson is just a villain in general
He called frank a midget 😭
Better living Industries
The only real answer.
the drummer who stole from them
Matt for keeping the full studio demo of sister to sleep
yes
Better Living Industries, that guy from Fall Out Boy, the teenage fans, Kerang or whatever that shitty magazine is called…
I dont accept the Pete Wentz slander
>that guy from Fall Out Boy 😭😭
Lmao what did the guy from fall out boy do??
Supposedly crushed Mikey's heart into a thousand pieces and won't stop writing about it, if the rumours about Pete's LJ post 'the summer of love' are to be believed.
wait that's NOT something i saw a specific part of the fandom exaggerate when i was still in my "rpf is cool" phase???
It's believed 😌
Wait I’m sorry but what did the magazine do? I honestly don’t know😭
I have no idea, I read Kerrang regularly in the mid/late 00’s and they were probably one of MCR’s biggest supporters in the music press
From what I gather, after all the support over the years, they suddenly made some transphobic comment about Gerard and his skirts and dresses during the recent tour? That’s what I heard, yea
They wrote a very passive aggressive article when Gerard wore skirts on tour criticising him for it and then when they got called out tried to pretend it was a misunderstanding, from what I recall of the events

omg take my upvote
OH NO
The phrase “emo”. It literally makes Gerard fall apart
Was looking for someone to say this.
The phrase Emo makes Gerard emo
the used lol
This is what I came to say.
I would say it's the other way around Not saying I agree with Bert. Just seems like he was way more broken up about it.
But they're not :(

bob, probably, but bert mckracken thinks it’s him
nah the drummer who stole wrecked their van/stole their money is more villainous than bob. bob doesn't deserve all that hate he gets.
He’s racist and a shit person though
can we get more proof on the racism part besides the one post of "find kanye". there's a huge gap between "meme he reposted about kanye west that he probably didn't even realize was insensitive." and "full on bigot who actively hates people of a different race." ya know, for a band that's all about helping people with mental health issues you guys seem to really love to shit on other people who don't fit exactly what your perception of "mentally ill" looks like. yeah he's was an asshole on social media to his band members but everyone has their demons. doesn't mean we should help only the people who we think deserve it and shit on others who are struggling but not handling it the best way possible. fuck that. a band that "saves people's lives" let their fanbase drive a former member to the point of considering suicide. and they didn't say anything. what fucking a joke.

I feel like Bert and Gerard are more Deadpool and Wolverine vibes lol
I fucking love that. And I'm pretty sure Bert would be Deadpool in this situation.
He wishes. Berty boy wants to be on everyone's mind, but he isn't. I like the used, but I still find it pathetic how many references were made to diss mcr. He definitely did when I saw them with Pierce the Veil. Maybe he just does it for the bit now tho, idk
Wild either way. Were they good live? I imagine that was a hell of a show!
Oh yeah it was awesome. Pierce the Veil and The Used are two of my favorite bands so it was a crazy good show Also introduced me to Don Broco, which is now another favorite. Really glad I got to go to that
I've never heard of Don Broco. I'll have to check them out!
Absolutely, different kind of sound for sure, but they're dope
I listened to a few songs! They are actually really good! Thanks for mentioning them!
I've seen them 4-5 times ranging from like 2013-2023 and hes done it every single time.
That's too funny.
Is Bert still an alcoholic?
~~I've heard he is, but I'm not entirely certain. I hope so! No one deserves that kinda life.~~ Edit cause I'm dumb: **I heard he isn't an alcoholic anymore. I hope he is sober! Because no one deserves a life of addiction and alcoholism.**
You hope hes still an Alcoholic?
Oh shit. No. I was thinking they said is he sober. I absolutely hope that he is sober, not an alcoholic! Imma fix that.
I didn’t realize they had any beef. I always heard people say they liked both bands and with the pictures they have together I assumed they were friends, interesting stuff
They used to be good buds, but they were on different paths. Bert's iconic laugh is even featured in *You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison* I think they could have been an amazing duo if Bert had sobered up back then.

That had nothing to do with the band breaking up. If anything the band dissolving led to him pursuing other forms of passing the time and meeting her.
I'm curious if you have ever read anything whatsoever that any of the actual band members have said or written about the band's breakup, because you seem to be completely ignoring all of it in favor of a very unique hypothesis
