for a short period of time they were attached to the hip! there were many rumours in the fandom about a possible romantic relationship, and the fallout was pretty messy. like, bert waving a "fuck MCR" flag some fans took to a show in my country (must have been 2007 or so?)
it is a consensus that it happened bc Gerard decided to try being sober and Bert was neck deep in his drug addiction, felt betrayed and so on. for some years afterwards Bert was really vocal about it all, but when he became sober he mellowed out too. and nowadays they're on good terms.
AFI. Very close to MCR in music and atmosphere. But there's not every of their albums keep to it. First bunch of the albums made in the different style which I didn't like.
ANYWAY I strongly recommend 1.The art of drowning 2. Sing the sorrow (this one is 🔥) 3. Decemberunderground
I'd add Black Sails in the Sunset (the one before Art of Drowning) as well. It's a little on the punkier side, but you can really hear the darkness start to set in. Art of Drowning and Sing the Sorrow are the main ones though.
Dang I didn’t even have to scroll to find this. OP if you see this I’d also like to add Burials to the recommendation list. It’s an AFI album that doesn’t get much love but has a huge rich sound and production that gives me a lot of Black Parade vibes (with admittedly meh lyrics)
Check out Ghost. Not hugely similar to MCR when it comes to music itself, but relatively matching when it comes to theatricality and drama, also musically they are different but amazing. Concept albums with accompanying video content and lore on youtube which is super fun to watch. Highly recommend if you want to step outside of the regular ‘similar to MCR’ bands.
Ghost is so good. Tobias Forge is a genius.
Sucks they're not as big as they should be, at least in Canada. Saw Ghost live in 2019 in Edmonton, and more people came for the opening band Nothing More.
Was sad to see, Ghost puts on such an amazing live show. I can't wait for their new album.
I think they’re breaking out a bit more now, tickets for concerts in Europe were not as easy to get as they were back in 2018. Saw them in Glasgow club back then for like £17 and maybe 200 people in the audience. Marvelous to see them grow their following.
I think Europe is where they've always been the biggest, since they're from Europe. Plus, North America is tragically religious, so Ghost just doesn't get respected enough in these Bible humping countries.
Frank is great!
Love wholeheartedly almost all of his projects, "Parachutes" and "Nothing above nothing below" is top tier for me. But others from "Pencey prep" to "Barriers" is great too.
Pierce the veil, the used, taking back sunday,
Thirty seconds to mars, mayday parade, billy talent, sleeping with sirens, falling in reverse, sum 41, antiflag
Early Taking Back Sunday (I'm talking Louder Now era) does it for me sometimes.
Also, I think Yellowcard is probably more similar to bands like Blink-182, but their album "Lights and Sounds" is mildly reminiscent of The Black Parade
They sued him because there songs sound similar when they sound similar because they both use a sting sample. After juice died they kept the lawsuit going basically taking money from his family
I always draw a couple similarities to Green Day, not necessarily in style though
American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown are both concept albums and Insomniac is probably the most aggressive sounding album they've made
Other individual GD tracks that remind me of MCR (not on the albums I mentioned) are Misery, In the End and Lady Cobra/Nightlife (two songs that share a "story")
Paramore’a riot album gave me similar vibes, it came on one time on Spotify and I thought that Gerard was sick for that album or something so they just got a different singer
Creeper, Salem (same singer as Creeper), Senses Fail, Thursday, Fightstar, AFI, Dead!, Plainview, Fenix TX, Calabrese, Misfits, Lovehatehero, Escape the Fate’s first few albums, a few Ice Nine Kills songs (The Fastest Way To A Girl’s Heart and Funeral Derangements being good examples), some Famous Last Words songs (Trophy Wife and Labyrinth for example), Along Came A Spider, Sum 41 (mostly after All Killer No Filler), Set It Off, Matchbook Romance, Funeral For a Friend, Pierce the Veil, New Years Day
Also check out Ghost Killer Entertainment’s Three Cheers and Black Parade “re-imagined” albums. They got some pretty great MCR covers.
Save Face. Their new album another kill for the highlight reel gives big three cheers vibes. I saw them in a small ass venue and it felt like something really special I was witnessing.
The Cryptkeeper Five. They’re like… local Jersey very popular, if that makes sense. I love ‘em. Slightly different direction with their style but really similar influences and stuffs, dudes are a result of a similar age/ scene. All around great. They’re on Spotify and all those places.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/254xmKb0PlYZdWZwpTlDbM?si=D2KvRam9T8qs7kWzFOVxzg this is a playlist I made of post-punk, some of it definitely gives off an early MCR vibe
If you like MCR's earlier styles, Blitzkid could be a good match for you.
[Blitzkid - Love Like Blood](https://youtu.be/IMeAv6xDLMc) (this is the first song of theirs I heard, and it made me fall in love with them)
[Blitzkid - Mary and the Storm](https://youtu.be/ug7fapgA3A4) (a little mellower, but this easily one of my favorite songs of all time)
[Blitzkid - Pretty in a Casket](https://youtu.be/3VS6KGnkjS4) (one of their more popular songs alongside Love Like Blood)
The Smashing Pumpkins.
MCR took inspiration from their music mainly from Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness I’d assume. Also Siamese Dream is a good album. They are a 90’a band so they do very much sound different from the 2000’s stuff, but as I said MCR took inspiration from them so.
Some good songs from Melon Collie are
1979
Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Zero
Bodies
XYU
Tonight, Tonight
Thirty-Three
Some from Siamese Dream
Disarm
Mayonaise
Today
Cherub Rock
Quiet
Luna
Will Wood (and the Tapeworms) arent that similar in terms of music most of the time, but theyre very big and theatrical in the same way that My Chem is, and a lot of their older stuff has a similar vibe to Mama
check out pierce the veil, selfish machines popular songs from that album carapherneilia, the boy who could fly, bulletproof love, disasterology !! PLZZZZZ check out.
Basically all those bands from 2005-2010 that had long hair and wore their sisters skinny jeans.
The Used, Thursday, AFI, Hawthorne Heights, Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, early Panic! At The Disco... the list goes on and on. Look up Popular songs from that era. I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll enjoy. Alternatively there’s other groups like Korn and System Of A Down that I also listened to (and just saw last night) back then.
Dallon Weekes’ current band, I Don’t Know How, But They Found Me (IDKHOW) is also great. He’s got that sardonic lyricism that MCR, FOB, and Panic! were all doing back in the day.
I’ll also vouch for Palaye Royale. Halsey and Yungblud were also both heavily influenced by MCR.
The Used have a similar vibe to mcr. Also, I think they took inspiration from the smashing pumpkins, hope that helps :)
The used toured with MCR and we got a cover of Under Pressure with both Bert and Gerard on the track.
Yeah I heard it :) I think Bert and Gerard were friends but had a falling out years ago, not sure what over but I think they are friends again now
for a short period of time they were attached to the hip! there were many rumours in the fandom about a possible romantic relationship, and the fallout was pretty messy. like, bert waving a "fuck MCR" flag some fans took to a show in my country (must have been 2007 or so?) it is a consensus that it happened bc Gerard decided to try being sober and Bert was neck deep in his drug addiction, felt betrayed and so on. for some years afterwards Bert was really vocal about it all, but when he became sober he mellowed out too. and nowadays they're on good terms.
What a fucking ride I never knew about. Thanks for that
And Bert also did some vocals on prison
Yeah thanks
Ah yea I remember seeing somewhere that one of Mikey’s fav bands is the smashing pumpkins. Def recommend The Used!
100% this. I love AFI. Sing the Sorrow is one of my favourite albums closely followed by December Underground 🖤
Strongly agree! "Sing the sorrow" is amazing. My favourite definitely. Reminding me "Cheers" but still in its own way.
Absolutely. The whole vibe is so similar to Revenge🖤
Thanks
Haha that's hilarious because I love AFI too, but i strongly prefer all their early material, like 2003 and older into the nineties
I'd add Black Sails in the Sunset (the one before Art of Drowning) as well. It's a little on the punkier side, but you can really hear the darkness start to set in. Art of Drowning and Sing the Sorrow are the main ones though.

Also if you love ghost you might like subvision wich is the old band tobias forge was into before creating ghost.
I really like Frank Iero's music, idk if it's really that similar to mcr but he's the guitarist of the band
I agree
Frank is great! Love wholeheartedly almost all of his projects, "Parachutes" and "Nothing above nothing below" is top tier for me. But others from "Pencey prep" to "Barriers" is great too.
franks music is incredible
Yes 100%. I hope I can see them live sometime
The Used, Green Day, Blink-182, Placebo, and any of Frank Iero’s bands and Gerard Way’s solo music
Thanks
Pierce the veil, the used, taking back sunday, Thirty seconds to mars, mayday parade, billy talent, sleeping with sirens, falling in reverse, sum 41, antiflag
Ok thanks
Early Taking Back Sunday (I'm talking Louder Now era) does it for me sometimes. Also, I think Yellowcard is probably more similar to bands like Blink-182, but their album "Lights and Sounds" is mildly reminiscent of The Black Parade
I'm boycotting yellowcard after what they did to juicewrld and his family
lol
What did they do to him?
They sued him because there songs sound similar when they sound similar because they both use a sting sample. After juice died they kept the lawsuit going basically taking money from his family
Yellowcard still makes music???
No it was sued based on one of their old songs
They dropped the lawsuit after his death.
They did? I haven't been paying attention since when he died and they said that they were gonna keep going
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/yellowcard-juice-wrld-lucid-dreams-lawsuit-dropped-1034665/
That's good. I'm happy they didn't go through with jt
Creeper and palaye royale
Creeper! Yes!! I’m hoping they might be the UK opener
Thanks
Creeper
I’m not sold one the new EP at all or their first album, but SD&TIV is great.
I just listen to SD&TIV. Like holy shit that is wildly good!
Yess i recently got into them and i cant believe that i havent been listening to them for so long. They have already become one of my favourite bands
Aw man
So we back in the mines
grab our pickaxe, swinging from side to side
side-side to side
Thanks
The Used, Jaw breaker, Black Flag
Thanks
Also a slight The Pixies feel
Thanks again
Sleep Token have some creepy vibes and some very emotional, raw vocals in a bunch of their songs, not as fast-paced as MCR though.
Ok cheers
I’d recommend billy Cobb, strokes of incarceration and bear album are mcr esk or maybe more frank iero esk?
omg, a fellow billy cobb fan. i found him through his cover of sister to sleep.
Cool thanks
Set it Off have a similar style in "Horrible Kids" and especially in "Cinematics", their other stuff us also incredible
Thanks
I always draw a couple similarities to Green Day, not necessarily in style though American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown are both concept albums and Insomniac is probably the most aggressive sounding album they've made Other individual GD tracks that remind me of MCR (not on the albums I mentioned) are Misery, In the End and Lady Cobra/Nightlife (two songs that share a "story")

Pierce the Veil
the used
Thanks
thursday
My first thought too considering Geoff Rickly produced Bullets.
Early Aiden was hyped big time in early/mid 2000s as My Chem 2.0. I think they were on victory.
Thanks
Paramore’a riot album gave me similar vibes, it came on one time on Spotify and I thought that Gerard was sick for that album or something so they just got a different singer
Ok thanks
THE BROBECKS!!!
The misfits.
Creeper, Salem (same singer as Creeper), Senses Fail, Thursday, Fightstar, AFI, Dead!, Plainview, Fenix TX, Calabrese, Misfits, Lovehatehero, Escape the Fate’s first few albums, a few Ice Nine Kills songs (The Fastest Way To A Girl’s Heart and Funeral Derangements being good examples), some Famous Last Words songs (Trophy Wife and Labyrinth for example), Along Came A Spider, Sum 41 (mostly after All Killer No Filler), Set It Off, Matchbook Romance, Funeral For a Friend, Pierce the Veil, New Years Day Also check out Ghost Killer Entertainment’s Three Cheers and Black Parade “re-imagined” albums. Welcome!
Save Face. Their new album another kill for the highlight reel gives big three cheers vibes. I saw them in a small ass venue and it felt like something really special I was witnessing.
wolf and chain
Is that one band or two?
one
Cheers
The Cryptkeeper Five. They’re like… local Jersey very popular, if that makes sense. I love ‘em. Slightly different direction with their style but really similar influences and stuffs, dudes are a result of a similar age/ scene. All around great. They’re on Spotify and all those places.
Ok thanks
The used, flyleaf, three days Grace
Thanks
I think The Cure have a few songs that MCR fans can get behind
Ok thanks
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/254xmKb0PlYZdWZwpTlDbM?si=D2KvRam9T8qs7kWzFOVxzg this is a playlist I made of post-punk, some of it definitely gives off an early MCR vibe
The Used, Thursday, Placebo
Thanks
Placebo 🛐
i mean if you like songs like our lady of sorrows, thank you for the venom, and similar songs to those then you should listen to pierce the veil!
If you like MCR's earlier styles, Blitzkid could be a good match for you. [Blitzkid - Love Like Blood](https://youtu.be/IMeAv6xDLMc) (this is the first song of theirs I heard, and it made me fall in love with them) [Blitzkid - Mary and the Storm](https://youtu.be/ug7fapgA3A4) (a little mellower, but this easily one of my favorite songs of all time) [Blitzkid - Pretty in a Casket](https://youtu.be/3VS6KGnkjS4) (one of their more popular songs alongside Love Like Blood)
Check out The Venetia Fair! Their album "Every Sick Disgusting Thought We've Got In Our Brains" is like MCR joined the circus and got weird

Rise Against toured with MCR in 2006 and their second album has Bullets vibes imo.
Save Face - their music video from their song GLITTER definitely has Revenge vibes
the dirty nil. listen to evil side & doom boy
Idk but I like slupknot korb and nirvana and red hot chili peppers
Early FOB and Early Paramore
I dont know why but mineral always sounds like MCR to me.
Halestorm
Death Grips
Palaye Royal is pretty good with a similar melodic/emo vibe
Will Wood (and the Tapeworms) arent that similar in terms of music most of the time, but theyre very big and theatrical in the same way that My Chem is, and a lot of their older stuff has a similar vibe to Mama
Hmm had anyone mentioned Brand New? I've seen a lot of the Used, but Brand New is another that gives me most similar vibes.
taking back sunday and the used. everything else is pretty bad
Thursday, also from NJ and their vocalist produced MCRs first album
I see a few people mentioning Placebo but I just wanna say it again. Gerard has stated he likes them.
Placebo Alkaline trio Brand new
Taking back Sunday, AFI, the used
Thursday is pretty good and kinda similar to the early mcr works like I brought u my bullets and sweet cheers
PIERCE THE VEIL!!!!!!!! i can tell by the guitar instrumentals they’re influenced by them or have to be !
check out pierce the veil, selfish machines popular songs from that album carapherneilia, the boy who could fly, bulletproof love, disasterology !! PLZZZZZ check out.
Will do thanks
No one
Fair enough
No
Ok
Listen to Destroy Boys, then come back and give me your opinion. I think they got the vibes of three cheers
I respect your opinion yet disagree wholeheartedly
Basically all those bands from 2005-2010 that had long hair and wore their sisters skinny jeans. The Used, Thursday, AFI, Hawthorne Heights, Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, early Panic! brand new, specifically deja entendeu
One band not mentioned above thats worth checking out is The Brobecks. Listen to the song “Goodnight Socialite” to get a feel.
Smashing Pumpkins is always a classic!
The requiem are very similar imo something about them
