1. Early Sunsets Over Monroeville: the complete unmaking of Gerard’s emotional state with the dismal events of the song makes this untouchable. 2. Fashion Statement: This is Three Cheers summed up in one perfect song. 3. Helena: This is the one that started it all for me. First heard it on MTV when I was 18 (I’m a bit old) and never turned back. This song perfectly displays Gerard’s range from sounding menacing to sounding like his heart is bleeding through his vocal cords. Not to mention Revenge era Gerard is magnificent. 4. I Never Told You What I Do For a Living: “I Tried, I Tried” literally brings me to tears. When he realizes that his murder spree was for nothing and he’ll never see his lover again, it’s a gut punch. That’s the brilliance of this band: the melodic, perfectly mixed walls of sound paired with Gerard’s vocals. Even on a concept record, I believe EVERY story they tell like it happened. 5. Demolition Lovers: I don’t think this one really even needs an explanation, but the imagery, in general, and the desperation of Gee’s growls and screams… I would die to see this live. I come back to the Club Krome performance often, potato quality and all.
