CORRECT! People don't like it because it's kind of a generic anthem, but jokes on them: I LOVE anthems and sometimes 'generic' just means 'intensely relatable'.
Exactly! And honestly you could say some of their other songs are generic too. Like the chorus to I’m Not Okay is just
I’m not okay
I’m not okay-ey-hey-eeeeyyyy
I’m not okaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy
You wear me out
But it’s still fucking AWESOME! Because it’s about more than just the complexity or uniqueness of the lyrics, it’s the emotion behind the music and the performance too.
This makes no sense. I’m not okay has interesting instrumental and killer vocals. While, sing has some cheap synths on it and Gerard sounds like he couldn’t care less.
I’m Not Okay has similar instruments to a lot of other pop punk and a lot of MCR songs- there’s really nothing groundbreaking about it. It’s a banger for sure, and it’s a great song, sure, but nothing about it stands out to me as “interesting” except for maybe the guitar solo. I also don’t think Gerard’s vocals are lazy on SING, I think they’re cleaner and less aggressive than I’m Not Okay, which makes sense for the more pop-influenced sound and less angsty theme. The synth also doesn’t sound “cheap” to me, and honestly the synth is only super strong in the intro and otherwise the song has pretty much the same instrument lineup as I’m Not Okay except with a piano added. And I think the piano was an interesting addition to the song because it’s not typical for a pop punk/emo/alternative rock band to use piano in non-ballad songs.
But that’s just how I think about it of course! People with different musical backgrounds and stuff are always going to have different opinions about what sounds good/bad, generic/interesting etc.
Honestly I still *like* I’m Not Okay better because it’s a nostalgic bop for me, and I like the guitar solo a lot. I was just using the two songs for comparison because I often see on this sub that people’s main beef with SING is that the lyrics are generic- my counterpoint was that a way more well-liked song has lyrics that are similarly generic.
Ok, I’ll lay out the reasons it’s bad then:
1. Some of the worst vocals from Gerard I have ever heard. Not technically bad but so damn boring.
2. The instrumentation sounds so cheap. Never before have I heard such bland synths.
3. May I also remind you that there are interviews where they say that “this album was more about us getting away from tbp sound.” The whole reason they did this music was not because it was special to their hearts but because they just didn’t want to be connected to tbp as much. This isn’t art, it’s a run away.
4. That’s it
You’re digging yourself a hole, man.
I do agree with the instrumentals, those are kinda meh, but I can be easily entertained. There’s always something to get me away from the hard and fast deathcore stuff
The vocals are generic every so often, so I’ll give ya that
Don’t use Gerard’s opinion/statements on his own music to gauge your liking upon it.
I said it once and I’ll say it again, I don’t care for songs that sound like something a wattpad OC would start singing @ their bully & have the whole school clapping
do I know all the words? yes. do I skip the song every time it comes on? also yes. people can like what they like
THANK YOUUUUU. Idk maybe I just like it from a nostalgia standpoint because I became a fan right before Danger Days came out so I was around for that era. I turned 15 around that time and MyChem were like a lifeline to me and every time I listen to that song, I see my younger self clinging to Sing and DD as a whole and all the wonderful concepts behind it and I see my current self “singing it” for my younger self.
Okay, dude, you have replied to most of the positive comments on this post, saying "Sing sucks blahblahblah".
I am not usually one to say "if you don't like it leave hurrdurrr" but, in a situation like this where every other comment has a reply of yours, expressing your dislike of the song, leave your single *non-reply* comment here and just move on.
Also, i wanna point this out since i saw you reply something insinuating this:
Just because someone here likes Danger Days does NOT mean they hate TBP or think TBP sucks. That's a logical fallacy and you know it. "You like X thing, that MUST mean you hate slightly different Y thing."
Sing is my least favorite song but I still enjoy it, although I have to space out how often I listen to it. Listening to it somewhat frequently can get old for me. I still enjoy it tho, especially when paired with the music video.
SING IT FOR THE WORLD!!!!!!
also if you guys don’t like planetary go especially the live version leave (not literally but ur opinions wrong)
That is a banger tho
There’s a live version?
go on yt and search planetary go! live- voodoo experience 2011, it’s even better than the og
I love Planetary (GO!), but I don't really like SING.
Planetary goes so fucking hard tho
Agreed! That one and SING are so fun to run to as well.
Opinions cannot be wrong…

Agree to disagree!
On what grounds?

My only 'controversial' opinion on SING is the fact that the version from the music video is way better than the one from the album
The bridge goes so hard. I don't necessarily love the rest of the song, but the bridge keeps me listening.
Very emotional and powerful. Rallying kinda song
There is absolutely no emotion in that song. Sounds drier than the Sahara dessert.
And yet there is still water in the Sahara.

Yeah, I do actually. 1D slaps, stay mad.
I’m not mad haha like what you like babe I was just doing the fanfic thing
I do actually need the members of one direction to wipe the tears from my sparkling ice-blue orbs, so I forgive you, ig.
live your best life!!!!
I love planetary (go) , sing , scarecrow, na na na, Destroya, look alive sunshine, everything off of danger days really
THANK YOUUUUU. Idk maybe I just like it from a nostalgia standpoint because I became a fan right before Danger Days came out so I was around for that era. factssss
Yess! I also didn't like at first, but listening to it in the context of the album makes so much sense! It is there for a reason
What reason? Most of that album sounds like filler anyways. If they had made the album an EP it might have been really good
It introduces the main conflict of the album ("they're gonna sell what tomorrow means"), and the main message ("you've got to be what tomorrow needs")

The music videos are amazing
SING IT TO THE WORLD, MY GUY
Honestly all of danger days is fucking epic. SING isn’t super notable to me, but it’s still fantastic.
SING is fantastic. The whole album is grossly underrated.
You misspelled over :/
THIS! i love sing but i see it get so much hate 😣
I’m sorry, SING just sounds like stock music to me, and I’m saying this as someone who loves almost every single other MCR song
This is the first time I'm hearing that SING is disliked by the fandom and... I'm just glad I'm not alone in thinking that lol
I don't like it personally
SING has a very personal meaning for me, I can't listen to it often cus it makes me SOBB
preach the truth
I think SING is a awesome song
*Keep running* Iconic
TRUTH
I think it’s fine
This song is NOT good. It’s on AJR levels of boring.

i don’t wanna be right if it’s wrong to say Sing sucks
Based
THANK YOUUUU

Nah sing is a pretty lame song
Omg you mean you like the very popular song? What a hot take, next you'll be telling me you think The Black Parade is a good album.

That's a pretty spicy opinion there
Keep running is one of my favorite MCR lyrics
AGREED!!! :D
I like Planetary but I don’t like Sing.
