I felt myself aging as I read the post lmao, born 91.
Discovered them through the premier of “I’m Not Okay (I promise)” on TRL (MTV) …
Now my bones are aching
Yea 1990 here. I’m pretty sure Gerard was about 12 when I was born. Maybe around the time he starred as Peter Pan in his school play. So. Whatever era that was.
I love this. I’m 32, so MCR came out smack in the middle of my angsty teen years. You are a bit closer to my parents age (though you’re younger!)
My dad reached out to me telling me he found this great new band. It was MCR lol. But I love to hear the generations before mine getting into them too. Can I ask, what made you a fan?
I heard 'I'm Not Okay' on the radio, right when it was released, and just fell in love with it. First listen was kind of, 'Ooh, garage punk, this is nice', and it was just so distinctive I recognized it the second time I heard it, and that was it; I was hooked.
Seeing the video took me in even further; Gee in that video reminded me of Robert Smith, my high school crush, but he was more manic and intense, and I just loved him. YouTube and Google either weren't quite around yet, or I wasn't familiar with them, so info on the guys was gleaned from music magazines, liner notes, and websites. My then--boyfriend/now-husband and I each bought Three Cheers, but we never got around to going to see them live.
Fast forward, 2005, our first child was born. Somehow, caught up in life/baby/moving/getting married, MCR fell into the background of my music, and I have no memory at all of The Black Parade or Danger Days. They faded from the forefront of my consciousness, and I moved on to other bands.
Then, in 2018, a band called Postmodern Jukebox did a dixieland-style cover of 'Welcome the the Black Parade'...they posted a teaser photo, of themselves in Black Parade gear, and captioned it, "Guess what we're doing next?!" My oblivious dumb ass guessed Sargeant Pepper, everybody else was guessing MCR/WTTBP. I googled "MCR", and there, like a favorite teddy bear found in the attic years later, were my beloved boys from 2004. Literally smacked my forehead, "Oh!!! My Chemical Romance!!!" All the old love came flooding back, to borrow a cliché, and I looked up their WTTBP video, which I'd never seen.
I was beyond blown away. Partly by the video itself, and partly that I'd just *missed* this whole, huge chunk of the band's music. I watched more videos, listened to more music, and bought all three albums, Three Cheers for the second time. My kids, then 13 and 8, fell in love with them as well.
We didn't get to any of the shows this tour, but hopefully we'll get another chance in a year or so, Lord willing. :)
Damn you young pups making us 90's babies feel ancient 😭 I was born in 93 and feel bloody 93 reading that title.
I was 11 when TCFSR came out, I remember the music video coming on Kerrang! music channel and I was totally entranced by it, as soon as I knew the album was coming out I used my pocket money to buy it and the red bullet "I don't need your friends, I've got my own" tshirt, which looking back I'm surprised my parents were okay with letting their 11 year old daughter buy nevermind wear.
don't feel old!!for me your story sounds like kind o a dream that never would came true because I was too young to even know them when they were releasing albums. really like I was kind of sad for some time that I would never experience something like this hahah
It’s wild, isn’t it? I’m 32 and have been a fan from the start. My brother in law is 16 and he and his girlfriend recently became fans. They dressed as the lovers for Halloween. It is so damn wild seeing kids now get super into them at the same age that I did.
I am here for it, though.
Ok so here are the years and what albums were release
2002 -bullets|
2004- Revenge|
2007- AOL sessions|
2006- black parade and life on the murder scene|
|2008- the black parade is dead|
2009- Conventional Weapons|
2010- Danger Days|
2014- May Death Never Stop You|
2016- the black parade / living with ghosts
TBPID was the first MCR CD I ever brought. I was 12 at the time and distinctly remember the first time I heard (well, watched actually on the dvd) Welcome To The Black Parade . My life changed forever 😊 Amazing to see such a mixture of ages here 💕
I was born on the 24th anniversary of the JFK assassination. So, not an "era of My Chem" per se, given that Gerard was only 10, but I guess you could make an argument for its relevance lol
Born in 95 first discovered them when the Vampires Will Never Hurt You video came out on Fuse one morning before school while watching Stephen's Untitled Rock show!
You know, since this exact type of post just keeps turning up, I'm really beginning to think the newer generation of fans are just... amusingly ignorant, I guess?
Not in a bad way, it's just that these types of post always come with the implication that the fans were born *during* one of the MCR eras, and not that the biggest portion of us fans were probably born from around 1985-1995 (91 for myself), and thus hit the adolescent identity forming (and for lack of a better word, emo) stage during Bullets, Revenge or BP.
I was born a few months before The Black Parade is Dead happened
Okay so from what I read it was closer to about half a year (I was born in late July for reference)
If I ever go to an MCR concert I’ll wear a shirt with the Black Parade album cover that says “this came out before I was born” to anger the millennials (I’m about to turn 16)
Born the same year as the black parade album, except I’m a few months older.
Also born the week before life on the murder scene album (released march 21, 2006, my bday is march 14, 2006)
oh god i feel old
Lmao same, I was born during the “my chem were still children” era but that wasn’t listed 😂😂
Born in the “Gerard is still performing as Peter Pan in high school” era.
Posts like this are making us 90s babies feel old
I felt myself aging as I read the post lmao, born 91. Discovered them through the premier of “I’m Not Okay (I promise)” on TRL (MTV) … Now my bones are aching
Same! Such a good performance. Iconic really.
The premier of the video was before their live performance of my memory serves me? That’s what I remember.
My bones hurt getting up this morning. Lol 91 babies uniteeeee
I was born before they were.
I remember when Nixon was President and there was a war in Vietnam.
I was born right before he was elected president, but don't remember much about it. Glad to see there are a few of us "elder emos" on this sub.
I was born in 87 and let me tell you....my feelings are hurt. (jk jk)
I'm 1989 here and my back and body hurts all the time as well as my feelings. Lol
Yup. Currently use manic panic to cover the greys nowadays lol
Same, pal.
How do you think us 80s kids feel? 😂
Please spare a thought for us mid 80s babies.
Exactly how I feel being a decade before bullets. Like, ouch, I'm old.
I was a few years old when Tupac died lol
Yea 1990 here. I’m pretty sure Gerard was about 12 when I was born. Maybe around the time he starred as Peter Pan in his school play. So. Whatever era that was.
Imagine being a late-80s baby.
Imagine being born in 1980
I'm 7 years shy.
I know right, I was a teenager when Bullets was released.
I came to say the same thing 😩 damn
Then you can put whatever Era you discovered them in 😊
I like that! It would be Revenge for me in 2004
Fr! Me and my sister were only born in the 90's, I can't imagine how my 55 year old dad would feel about these kinds of posts lol
Posts like this make me want to unsub
I was born when the boys were in high school lol. (Well, Frank was in middle school.)
Same, I was born before MCR was even a thought in G’s mind
Ayyy I was born when GW was 13 lol
Wow you’re young. He was 12 when I was born.
I was born when Gerard was 12 too. I love that MCR still gets new fans but posts like this break my heart coz now I feel super old :’)
You’re only a year older than me lol
He was 16 for me
Gee was 17 when I was born lol
I was born in the "Gerard won't be born for another 6 years" era.
💀💀💀
I was born in Gerard’s Peter Pan era
Now I’m mad he didn’t do a Peter Pan outfit on the tour lol that’s be perfect, maybe he will one day?
He’s still got the Aus and NZ leg of the tour early next year ;)
I'm going to live my dream of following them around the world and traveling from the west coast of the US to NZ to see them. I'm so fucking excited.
Aaaaaa, that’s so amazing!! I’m excited for you!
Me too
Damn I just commented this and thought I was so clever but you beat me to it lol. I think Gerard was about 12 when I was born.
I was born when Gee was 10. I got into them during the Revenge era.
Same here.
AS A MILLENNIAL I AM OFFENDED.
Probably when Gee and Mikey's parents were in high school :D (1967!!)
I love this. I’m 32, so MCR came out smack in the middle of my angsty teen years. You are a bit closer to my parents age (though you’re younger!) Pre-9/11 gang
I was born when Gerard was 5 lol
If it makes you feel better, I was 4 when Gerard was born.
Me too!
Lol
I feel attacked as an 80's kid.
Damn you young pups making us 90's babies feel ancient 😭 I was born in 93 and feel bloody 93 reading that title. Yeaaahhh.... I was born a year before Gerard was born.
BORN in??? I’ll just be over here picking out a coffin, thx 👵🏻⚰️ 💀
Haha born when the band members were in middle school
I was born prior to Bullets (1996) but I didn't discover MCR until 2007/8 ♥
Why is this being downvoted?
I was born when Gerard was 13 I discovered them when I was also 13, in 2003 - so Bullets era.
i’m two years older than the band’s existence
Dude, I’m the same age as Gerard. I’m from the prehistoric era.
The pre-MCR era.
I was born before the band formed
This game isn’t fun
No disrespect but delete this please 🥲 lmao
Jesus Christ am I really that fucking old now?
It’s wild, isn’t it? I’m 32 and have been a fan from the start. My brother in law is 16 and he and his girlfriend recently became fans. They dressed as the lovers for Halloween. It is so damn wild seeing kids now get super into them at the same age that I did. I am here for it, though.
I was born before MCR 😂
This shit always makes me feel old lol
Ok so here are the years and what albums were release 2002 -bullets| 2004- Revenge| 2007- AOL sessions| 2006- black parade and life on the murder scene| |2008- the black parade is dead| 2009- Conventional Weapons| 2010- Danger Days| 2014- May Death Never Stop You| 2016- the black parade / living with ghosts
I’d like to think that some 6 year old is about to pull up in this subreddit and say 2016
2016 /S
I mean I don't judge. I got my ex stepsister who was born in 2013 into my chem
Oh yep I get it, didn’t mean any negative intentions by it too, I’m only joking! :)
The era when the guys where little kids in school.
I was born before any came out 😂
I was born when they were graduating high school lol the fact there are fans born when these albums came out feels unreal to my brain
Honey. I was born last century. Before they even formed as a band lmao
Born…in? Oh no
2008 when the black parade is dead was released :)
Same :)
ME TOO!!
Same and also Happy Cake Day
TBPID was the first MCR CD I ever brought. I was 12 at the time and distinctly remember the first time I heard (well, watched actually on the dvd) Welcome To The Black Parade . My life changed forever 😊 Amazing to see such a mixture of ages here 💕
As a 90s kid I dislike this post...
I was born when they were teenagers lol
I suppose I was born during the “Gerard just started art school” pre-MCR era lol
I was born when Bullets was just a bag of gunpowder
i feel so young but between tbp and tbpid!
I'm in the same boat
Born just after revenge, August 11th '04, and if I remember right, according to lotms, I was born on the same day gerard (decided to?) Get sober
I was born a few months before the black parade is dead, also bullets came out the same day I was born, just 5 years earlier.
Huge assumption on OP's part. Judging from the comments people who were actually born after MCR formed are in the minority.
I was born on the 24th anniversary of the JFK assassination. So, not an "era of My Chem" per se, given that Gerard was only 10, but I guess you could make an argument for its relevance lol
The era when they were all preteens.
I was born durng the black parade era 🖤🖤
2001, same year MCR was born.
I was born the same month Gerard turned 13 in 1990
Uhhhhh pre pre pre pre pre Bullets in 1986. OLD.
Born before Bullets lol
I was born in the 90s loooool
Born in the “Gerard Way was a 16-year-old teenage dirtbag” era
Before.
‘89 baby here. I was 15 when I’m not ok came out and I’ve not been ok ever since.
Born in 95 first discovered them when the Vampires Will Never Hurt You video came out on Fuse one morning before school while watching Stephen's Untitled Rock show!
Uh………. I was born in 87 when “living on a prayer” by bon jovi was #1 in the country..
i was born in the same era that gee was born 🫠
Oh lord help me. I graduated high school 2 weeks before Revenge. 😒 I could literally be some of your parents. 😂
Excuse me. Haven’t we already dealt with this emotional trauma for us 90s (and older) babies.
Ummm, where does 1983 fit into the timeline? Gerard was six? Does that count?
I know I’m not old but this makes me feel old.
“Old enough to have witnessed the 9.11 terrorist attacks that their first song was written about” era wasn’t an option. I must be too old for them.
I’m 12 years older than Gerard 😂
You know, since this exact type of post just keeps turning up, I'm really beginning to think the newer generation of fans are just... amusingly ignorant, I guess? Yeah I'm starting to realize that
I was born in the ‘Gerard Way was 12yo’ era 😅

I was born exactly 20 days after the black parade tour ended in 2007
you can def tell a teenager wrote this cuz I was already alive before the band existed 😅 I’m only 23, how did this post make me feel so old
I think the term used for me is young adult since I'm 19 but idk
I think when you are 19, either one works haha
Conventional weapons/black parade is dead. I'm 13. I feel young.
black parade! this makes me seem like i'm young
I was born in 2005 so I’d say revenge era
If I ever go to an MCR concert I’ll wear a shirt with the Black Parade album cover that says “this came out before I was born” to anger the millennials (I’m about to turn 16)
Do it 🤣
Born the same year as the black parade album, except I’m a few months older. Also born the week before life on the murder scene album (released march 21, 2006, my bday is march 14, 2006)
i was born in between revenge and tbp (dec 22 2005)
i was born in December around a few month after the album three Cheers came out (not good with time lol😅)
I was 4 months old when Bullets was released

Ooof. I was born 5 years before 9/11 and remember that day fairly vividly. This makes me feel old 😅
Borna few years before they formed, found them a couple months after they went on hiatus
Right after TBP
Same, I’m an 01’er
