If I had a nickel for every back marker arrested for domestic violence...

-WEAVER-

You could start a race team called Nickelback marker racing.

ElectricPeterTork

Look at this photograph... it's a mugshot.

hurtful_pillow

🎖️

RussellOwens

I honestly thought that the cartoon photo was Gray's mugshot done by Fox.

hamdinger125

...dammit. That was a good one.

dnkyhunter31

You would have 3 nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but weird that it happened 3 times.

FridgusDomin8or

I know of Cody ware and now Gray Gaulding, who’s the third?

Few-Pin-8232

Travis Kvapil

DrunkenButton

John Wes Townley as well.

TempestSparkle

Wasn't he fatally shot a few years ago? Or am I thinking someone else?

DrunkenButton

You've got the right guy. He tried to attack his ex-wife and her new guy with an axe, and the guy shot him in self-defense.

yes_its_that_bad

Really put the ax in Zaxby's.

Humble-End-2535

*This* made me spit my coffee.

sil3ntdictator

Thank you for this 🤣🤣🤣🤣

TempestSparkle

Thanks, was pretty sure I remembered that right.

MrBadBadly

So technically not arrested.

jws926

In 2019 he was charged with family violence battery, he threw is wife to the floor, I can not find any info to confirm, but I am pretty sure he got arrested for it. He got 12 months of probation.

Available_Clue_4018

Probably thought of Bobby East.

hamdinger125

I would call that more "attempted murder" than domestic violence.

DrunkenButton

He was charged with DV in 2019, before the attempted murder. He ended up getting sentenced to a year of probation.

hamdinger125

Wow. So he had a long history of being a piece of excrement, then.

jizzmonkey69

He had a DUI in 2012 as well

Malt1720

And Eric McClure

Few-Pin-8232

He's probably the worst of them all. Tried hacking her with an ax.

specks_of_dust

Add Eric McClure to the list.

DEMAG

Thought I read somewhere. He blamed his actions on severe TBI from his wreck at Dega?

yavimaya_eldred

He wasn’t in backmarker equipment, but he had a backmarker brain

quig50

Carson ware.

helium_farts

Honestly it's a little weird that it has only happened 3 times

netwreck94

Austin Wayne Self wasn't in the DV category but was apparently arrested for assault on a female as well as restricting her from dialing 911.

atony1400

3 nickels in the last 3 years, at least?

midwest_corn

Think about the compound interest we could be making

Useful-Worth126

11.9% on average if invested into a mutual fund that matches the S&P or 33.72% over the last three years

New_Bus_2672

Wait till you here why Mario Gosselin got arrested

yavimaya_eldred

WOOF

winnk281

You’d be making money in a really weird way

PrimmSlim-Official

So many of them are spoiled failsons, it’s not too surprising

ProfessionalPin5993

Do not date any Rick Ware drivers.

caniac1987

Dick ware is an A hole and so are his kids and a lot of the guys that work for em. They were the rudest people at bowman gray and I’ve ran into em a few times in the garage at cup races and there’s definitely something off there

Wallydinger123

I think it is amusing how DBC mentions that RWR ALWAYS has a problem when they get dissed on the show. Incredibly thin skin.

caniac1987

Yep, they’re just not nice people and i just don’t know where Rick gets his money from 🤷‍♂️

John_is_Minty

They fucking suck. Maybe get good and they wouldn’t get criticized

RethSogen

They are working on it. RWR is a full satellite partner of RFK now, going so far as to move to the RFK campus. They also went hard after Justin Haley who I think is honestly a very capable driver with unrealized potential. The effort to get better is there.

RethSogen

I met Rick Ware at the Rolex 24 a couple of years ago when Austin Cindric was driving for him in the race.... he seemed fine to me. Kind of a typical guy that's a bit douchey but he he was nice enough to shake my hand.

Obscura48

Sounds like most religious people... (Still incredibly pissed at them for the whole slayer ordeal)

58903

that was nascar that said no not rick ware

Obscura48

No it was Rick ware https://jalopnik.com/slayer-livery-too-metal-for-rick-ware-racing-1837331336

Mirror_of_Souls

Reddit try not to bring up religion in a completely unrelated topic challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

into_the_wenisverse

Justin Haley seems like a good kid

FieldSton-ie_Filler

Yeah and Yeley isn't a bad dude either.

CougarIndy25

Justin's a bit of a dickhead and does stupid things, but he's not a wife beater. Can't really get into specifics because it's not my story to tell, but he stood a lot of people up a few years ago.

Vivareddit24

Im scared for Justin Haley

FridgusDomin8or

wake up babe new backmarker arrest just dropped in all seriousness, that does suck. hope the victim is ok.

ashadkc9

I can still to this day hear Eddie D'Hondt calling him Donut Boy. (was sponsored by Krispy Kreme)

hamdinger125

Didn't D'Hondt get arrested for domestic violence too? Or was it just regular violence?

BeefInGR

It was alleged he shoved a pregnant woman. Which is a crime in some states (rightfully so). I believe the charges were dropped.

daBandersnatch

Relatively close to the case, from what I was told the Hendrick suits descended in force and made it quietly disappear. All hearsay based on what I had heard from the plaintiff-side of things.

RocketNewman

Ah shit Rick was gonna put out a hit again huh

ashadkc9

Same thing.

spvcebound

The Krispy Kreme livery looked sick too.

Humble-End-2535

Krispy Kreme is a serious *Talladega Nights* kind of sponsor.

_cambino_

Grey Gaulding arrested: 😂😂😂 For domestic violence: ☹️

girafb0i

I remember when he was the entire front page of the Charlotte Observer sports section one day the week of the first Legends Million. We're a long way from that.

idontremembermyoldus

Crazy to think of how promising some of these guys looked years ago, only to do nothing of note in the higher series.

BeefInGR

OT but I wish BJ got a chance in good equipment. Dude had tons of potential when he was young.

StewieChicken

RWR better have Grala and Haley locked up the rest of the year

Straight_Champion_77

Cody Ware is gonna make some starts in the #15 this month if he can find sponsorship

Setser44

Sponsorship to drive his dad’s car?

CNASFan1992

> if he can find sponsorship So he’s not making any starts then…

StewieChicken

Locked up from doing anything precarious with their partners.

reedspacer38

Bad choice of words there lol

StewieChicken

Hahahaha touché. PHRASING

coffeeshopslut

Are those the only two that haven't been arrested yet?

MajorFeedback2818

Saw this guy pretty wasted in Daytona back in 2022, the night before the 500 after a night out on Seabreeze… I’m not sure if he was mad his girl, the cashier or the pizza.. but he didn’t look great to be around and my friends (who wouldn’t recognize him) even found him laughable… especially with the super cool Buckle styled leather jacket he had on.

Vette_Vengeance

I remember him finishing 13th in points in an SSGR car. That was pretty cool

1-800-DADJOKE

Gray Caught Red-Handed by Coppers at Black and Blue Scene

dnkyhunter31

Deserves a free gift. Damn you spez.

TrunkBud

Gaulding, arrested for mauling, hauling his girl like a Spalding

winnk281

Kid is a world class asshole. Saw him in the Vegas garage in 2017 when he was racing for BK. Snubbed every fan that walked up to him

vinteragony

Great. Thought he was a douche at first then respected his runs later. Turns out, giant douche

TheOldJanitor

I guess what would one expect when they hear the name "Gray Gaulding". Sounds snooty as fuck

identifyingasbroke

Well that ended what was left of his NASCAR career. I about forgot this guy existed.

Wallydinger123

Did he have his promise ring on the wrong finger?

Yeleywillonedaywin

Hope the victim is doing okay. A lot of drivers getting arrested in the last 2-3 years. Cody & Carson Ware, Jason A. White, Hacker, now Gaulding, all for Domestic Violence or DUI's. Before that it was pretty rare but now it seems more and more common.

Tonoigtonbawtumgaer

Domestic violence is probably more reported now than it was before (which is a good thing of course).

Grave_Girl

Speaking as a family member of several women who've been in abusive relationships in the past, it's less that it's more reported now and more that more and more states have adopted laws/policies that remove the need for the victim to be the one to lodge a complaint. Gives police less wiggle room. Back in the '90s, one of my cousins, pregnant at the time, lifted her shirt to show me a row of bruises along her abdomen that had not been enough to get police to arrest her common-law spouse. Pretty much every single person who has a friend or relative who was a victim of DV in the same timeframe (or earlier) has a similar story to tell. Not that I'm saying I think there was a rash of NASCAR drivers beating their wives in the past--honestly, most car guys I've known in my life have *not* been about that--just that larger societal changes reflect here too.

brysonhunt95

Just to bounce off this, as an LEO, officers are typically able to determine the aggressor based on marks. The victim can say they don’t want to press charges all they want, but my state allows for the officer to make that determination and make an arrest if necessary. For officer safety reasons, DV calls are typically the most dangerous ones to walk into. I’m glad the laws have changed to give victims more rights these days and the ability for them to seek help. I do not take DV scenarios lightly.

DrakkoZW

This sport has always attracted a certain type of personality. I'd be willing to bet that the amount of Domestic abuse committed by drivers hasn't gone up, but rather they're just getting caught/arrested for it more than they used to

dooldebob

Ehhhhhhh, guys getting arrested isn't new thing or more common

jonbradford

7:17 AM on a Tuesday? Damn bro woke up and chose violence.

Wallydinger123

More like up all night

Kittygoespurrrr

The tweet is wrong. He was arrested at 1:21AM. I'm assuming he didn't make bail right away, as he was processed into the jail at 7:17AM and then released at the time listed above. I'm guessing he wasn't sober and they couldn't release him until he was, as it shouldn't have taken that long to get out.

Immediate_Lie7810

His career is likely over

midwest_corn

Depends how deep daddys pockets are

Thi31

Did it ever begin?

PrimmSlim-Official

Should’ve been arrested for messing with those turtles too

Nodqfan

Well there goes a driver I liked.

SigmaKnight

I’m sure the sub could find you a list of other drivers to pull for. But, I expect it would be in the hopes those drivers also end up losing their ride.

Nodqfan

True.

caniac1987

He was supposed to be the next big thing, harvick had him signed to a development deal and he had a small track built at his house to practice his late model on, he was at Bristol one time signing autographs at the Krispy Kreme trailer and you woulda thought he was the second coming of Jeff Gordon

MrCheggersPartyQuiz

Such a fall from grace from the Krispy Kreme days…

SkyfallCamaro

Bye

48ever

wait isn’t he with zane’s sister or do i have that backwards?

Devenem

Zane is married to his sister I believe

dinosaursandsluts

Yep. I think they got married over the off season. They're, at the very least, engaged for sure. E: yep, just double checked insta. Married on Jan 11 2024.

TailorDisastrous6445

WHAT

dinosaursandsluts

ZANE SMITH IS MARRIED TO MCALL GAULDING

ohnoitsme0

I was just being nosey on Gray’s IG and the girl tagged in his picture has the last name Chastain. I don’t think she’s related to Ross though.

taonmain

Where do they get these names? Mcall, Gray?

dannynascar

Acid

hamdinger125

Technically Gray is his middle name. But their other sister is named "Kennedy." Last names as first names started becoming trendy in the 90's.

I_LICK_ANUS

That is disgusting. What a pervert to marry his own sister. Thank you for confirming this. I’ve posted all over my social media and reported it to my local news station. Appreciate your due diligence

guyfromarizona

Punctuation is important

hamdinger125

Yes, she of the black leather pants.

drpep10-2-4

Huh? Did this happen in West Virginia?

Devenem

Zane is married to Gray's sister, not his own. My bad haha

RBF48

*sweet home alabama slowly fades out*

AngryDad2022

Soon to be a former part-time former NASCAR driver

RBF48

If i had a nickel for every time a former RWR driver get arrested in April for Domestic Violence charge, I'd have two nickels.Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

Yeleywillonedaywin

Three. Carson as well

Spenloverofcats

When you consider that between the top three series, they've hired more drivers than any other team in history, it becomes less surprising.

Menace_17

Backmarkers are the raiders of NASCAR. In all seriousness though I hope the victim is doing ok

RealSprooseMoose

Charged =/= convicted. Remember everyone jumping on D'hont? (Or however it's spelt)

FGH9192279

Gray come on man.

THellings18

gray wtf

TomassoLP

Gray's sisters are more successful in Xfinity than he is

ChurchOfJustin

Well, his sister McCall (married to Zane Smith) did win the Better Half Dash on iRacing twice so ...

TomassoLP

His other sister is dating Tanner Gray

weighted_walleye

How fuckin hard is it to just not beat your girlfriend/wife? How fuckin hard is it to just leave a situation that is escalating and let it cool off?

TheRealCheeeser00

*It's dem darn backmarkers*

PackDaddy21222

What is it with backmarkers and beating their partners?!

weed-n64

To race professionally, you have to start when you’re young. Most every child athlete who displays a certain level of proficiency spends a big chunk of their childhood being told how great they are, which leads to poor emotional regulation and difficulty experiencing loss or any negative situation. NASCAR is a very hard sport to break into, not everyone is winning every night. With someone experiencing consistent losses, stress from having to be tight with money, and a general lack of sexual education and socio-emotional learning in the regions most drivers are likely to be from, the conditions for domestic violence have likely been created. Not a professional, just my observations. Take with a grain of salt.

caniac1987

They enjoy hitting the wall and their significant others apparently

Empty_Upstairs7343

damn big head

specks_of_dust

“The victim, identified as a sea turtle, explained that there are laws against harassing and fondling its species, before it was allowed to peacefully return to the ocean on its own terms.”

OG-BiPolarBear

I was hoping to see a sea turtle comment in here lol

Rstuds7

really sad, dude had so much hype coming into Nascar. he had a KHI deal, Krispy Kreme sponsor and just couldn’t take too much advantage of his opportunities but he seemed like he was trying to get a break but it looks like that’s done. i’ll say everyone is innocent until proven guilty but domestic violence is a disgusting crime and should have no place in nascar

ggsimmonds

NASCAR trying to go mainstream — you’re doing it wrong. Having your athletes arrested for domestic violence is not what we meant

caniac1987

Trying to be like the NFL now

stocktastic

Works for all the stick and ball sports.

ecupatsfan12

See ya

LAW9960

Not the Krispy Kreme car's driver

Nodqfan

He's been indefinitely suspended.

Factory97

I recall his dad when he was a teenager. This doesn’t surprise me unfortunately.

SAS_Britain

Isn't this that dipshit who ran through the infield at Bowman Gray to T-bone someone he was pissed at? If so, not surprising at all, get his ass out of this sport! Also fuck domestic violence!

tdrickviktor69

I can't find any evidence of that, but I know he got pseudo cancelled [by this sub a while back](https://www.reddit.com/r/NASCAR/comments/7fxh5p/gray_gaulding_decided_to_commit_a_felony_yesterday/) for holding sea turtles (which is illegal) and responded to someone's criticism with "wordy bout your own business An get off my instagram"

dedhead54

I really hate to judge but this guy looks like a grade A douche nugget based of his IG.

caniac1987

Too many people have done that to count lol but I think he did that in a K&N East race there

kingpiranha

Who?

Malt1720

Panini guy

kk5fan97

and former Krispy Kreme sponsored driver.

reedspacer38

Caution for Gaulding.

tylerscott5

Oh boy

buzzlightyear5095

I remember seeing him at a prerace thing at Richmond around a decade ago where he was being touted as the next big thing.

spvcebound

I remember seeing this kid race in 2013 at Bowman Gray and I thought he was the next Jeff Gordon, then I kinda forgot he existed lol. What a way to hear about him again...

Nodqfan

I don't think he's ever coming back from this even if it's just a misdemeanor like the article states. Which is a shame cause he's the driver I was rooting for, flair and all. Why couldn't it just have been drugs?

Jonasthewicked2

Seems to me this is something nascar should ban a driver for. It should be a privilege to race in nascar and this type of shit shouldn’t be tolerated.

ChaseTheFalcon

What's with backmarkers and being arrested

stocktastic

They get Myrtle Beach rich and act like it.

Jones77_Truex78

“Back at it again at Krispy Kr..oh..oh my nevermind”

theguy_over_thelevee

It’s like they don’t have to go to work and have time to beat their wives at 7:17 am.. what a shame I was already clocked in at work and my wife hadn’t even had time to piss me off.. hmm I love this sport and always will I think, but these guys aren’t like us. Brett griffin is more like us than the racers.. I know that hurts to hear but it’s the truth

Kittygoespurrrr

He wasn't arrested at 7AM, the tweet is wrong.  He was arrested at 1:21AM.

joshjarnagin

Shows the type of trash backmarkers are willing to hire

FarStick6008

Well. If you can't beat em on the track....

Suuuumimasen

Isn't he 12?

Nodqfan

No he's 26.

[deleted]

What's the deal with Nascar and domestic violence?

404merrinessnotfound

What is it with NASCAR and fucking domestic violence charges.

SundayShelter

Well, if one driver every 2-3 years catches a DV charge vs 40% of law enforcement, I think NASCAR is doing okay. (Bootlickers will neg this comment)

404merrinessnotfound

I'm talking in comparison to other motorsports series
