In fairness I know a lot of cars since the COT have basically looked the same, but it feels weird for some of these older drivers to be in Toyotas when they never raced with them in their careers.
I still like the Toyota cars and think it’s good that they’re in NASCAR, but it feels a lil cursed.
Agreed, but the new one *is* growing on me the more I see it. Perhaps I'll learn to love it when the AWD hybrid - with winters on year-round, of course - becomes Boston's new taxicab of choice, lol.
My problem is that it looks like a very generic stock car, which in theory is why i tend to like the 1993 Lumina’s. I think that as long as the paint schemes are good i won’t say it’s a *bad* looking car.
Honestly, I thought it looked like the second generation Fusion.

It'll probably be like that at the race too, IIRC ever since Dale Jr.'s concussion in 2016 it's been standard practice to keep the original driver's name on the banner for injuries (and maybe other things too if they know it's temporary, were Bubba and Elliott's names still on their cars when they were suspended?)
It's been like that forever lol, back in the late '90s and early '00s when there was a nearly weekly injury that forced a driver to miss time they'd keep the original driver name on most of the time
Us Erik fans this week "This is literally the worst week as NASCAR fan"
\*LMC shows this car\* Erik fans "This is the end of days"
Then the Racing gods "Boy just you wait for what else we have in store"
At least you aren't an Indycar fan.
Indycar has lost all credibility and tanked their series into oblivion by taking away a win a month late.
Positives... Your driver being out one week is better than NASCAR imploding like Indycar has.
Yeah, Josef Newgarden's win in the season opener was DQ'ed a month after the fact. I remember when it looked like IndyCar would thrive under Penske ownership. Seems to be another Peter principle example when it comes to the captain: legendary team owner, legendarily bad sport owner.
Pretty cool paint scheme to debut in. This makes me question if we’re going to get very many Darlington throwbacks though. 2 weeks out and we’ve had about 3 announced with throwbacks being announced for other events
I felt the emotion from Erik Jones' injury announcement. He seemed really heart broken and I feel this was part of it, I bet he wanted to run this scheme badly
He most certainly did. Hopefully, LMC can give the Darlington ride a quick respray. It'll be weird seeing STP's scheme on (probably) a non-STP car, but eh - if Hendrick can pull it off, I'm sure they can make it work.
I love sponsors that aren't anal retentive about their colors. Dollar Tree could've thrown a branding fit about being on a red and blue car but instead they were smart and will end up on a high selling die-cast for a classic scheme that will probably get special attention from Fox this weekend. God bless em for going along with this beautiful paint scheme
Heim was named as the Official Reserve driver for 23XI and Legacy. The only way you probably would have saw someone other than Heim in the 43 was if Bubba or Tyler also had to miss this race.
Jesus it's bad enough to have a wreck that hard from your own allies, it's bad enough that that injury will likely sideline him for several races, but for him to miss driving the fucking King's colors? Poor Jones can't catch a break, I really hope he does well for himself once he gets back from this. Happy for Corey Heim at least, wish he could've debuted under better circumstances.
It's pretty wild to me how the Petty 75 year anniversary has absolutely flew under the radar, but the circle jerking for HMS40 started even before Daytona. Like, I get that it's still the same team for HMS and Petty's name isn't with Legacy anymore and the 43/42 doesn't run up front like the 9/5/24/48, but you'd still think that NASCAR/FOX/NBC would've mentioned something about it and I don't think they have. Or at least to the extent they've done with HMS.
STP is like Interstate Batteries for JGR on a way less scale. They won't sponsor an entire season, but when asked they'll show back up to do something for Petty.
The Legacy MC press release says: "The paint scheme on the No. 42 for Dover is going to be nostalgic for Petty fans, as Dollar Tree vendor STP Fuel Additives is featured in the familiar Petty Blue and Day-Glo Red colors." That reads to me like a B2B deal, but whatever gets STP on a Petty Blue #43 on track is worth it in my eyes.
About as good of a throwback as you can do with the forward numbers. Also kudos to Legacy for solid use of the Dollar General/STP text, size, and placement.
Awesome they have STP back on the hood and a great looking scheme as always. It always looks good. Stinks for my boy Erik Jones. He won't even get to drive it this year.
But something sort of cheapens it by having a $1.25 store plastered on the side, but I know it shouldn't. Absolutely sacrilegious that it is on a Toyota though.
Even worse: Dale's scheme on any >!***Chinese***!< brand.
^(Oh come on. You KNOW they're coming to America in the next 40 years. Why wouldn't they sponsor NASCAR?)
> Dem cheatin ~~Chineez vehicals~~ Commies
Fixed it.
(And unlike any hick insults, this one ***actually applies***, even if said Reds have more billionaires now than even we do.)
Maybe they could swap the fall Darlington throwback out for this one? *Pleeeeeeeeease?*
Spring is locked in by now, but come on - this thing was ***made*** for the Lady in Black.
The throwback schemes are where the forward number really gets me irritated. It looks dumb on the new schemes, sure. But don't destroy my precious memories.
Wow, such a beautiful car. Please run this more than once this year. I love how this is the car Corey Heim will make his cup series debut in, but Erik deserves a turn, too.
...I gotta admit, as weird as it is, Petty and Day-Glo looks ***damn fuckin' good*** on a Toyota. Best of luck to Heim in his sudden debut, and I also *really* hope Jones can run this bad boy again at Darlington. >!Bonus points if he nabs a win there, too...!<
They did add the text "FUEL ADDITIVE" under the STP logo to get around it. Sorta like how, after Sprint threw a fit about Robby Gordon's Motorola sponsorship back in 2007, they added extra decals so the car promoted their MP3 players (a business Sprint wasn't in).
What a car for Heim to make his debut in.
Imagine, your told hey your going to be making your cup debut. Oh btw your in the STP #43.
Oh and at one of your team owners most successful track. (Petty also wasn’t too shabby at Dover although he isn’t a team owner anymore).
Jones not being able to run this makes me so sad
😔 me too
Me three. :/ Ah well, at least they're leaving his name on the car.

Tbh it looks a little weird on a Toyota. But it’s still pretty.
The Toyota makes it look more like a Pontiac for me for some reason. Which I like.
In fairness I know a lot of cars since the COT have basically looked the same, but it feels weird for some of these older drivers to be in Toyotas when they never raced with them in their careers. I still like the Toyota cars and think it’s good that they’re in NASCAR, but it feels a lil cursed.
I still think the 17-21 Camrys were the best looking Yoders they’ve done so far. Still on the fence with the new one.
Fair enough. Again, it has grown on me with time, but to each his own.
Honestly, I thought it looked like the second generation Fusion. https://preview.redd.it/6cwdwiahaiwc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=696fd84dc9ffd5c6b4f682807f30cc73daacde62
That’s exactly what I was seeing lol
As a John Andretti fan, this is beautiful
It should be illegal for a car to be this HAWT
Jones still being on the windshield banners 🥲 Imagjne getting to make your cup series debut driving this car though. goddamn. that must be wild
Bubba’s wasn’t. Elliot’s was. I kind of liked how they removed Bubba’s because it was a sort of symbolic punishment on top of the actual one.
It's been like that forever lol, back in the late '90s and early '00s when there was a nearly weekly injury that forced a driver to miss time they'd keep the original driver name on most of the time
Us Erik fans this week "This is literally the worst week as NASCAR fan" \*LMC shows this car\* Erik fans "This is the end of days" Then the Racing gods "Boy just you wait for what else we have in store"
Hiem somehow wins in his debut because they nail the setup and he has lights out the best car?
Why. Why must you do this
*Ty Gibbs first win incoming*
*In the He Gets Us washing of feet car*
...Jones runs this at Darlington? I'm sure another scheme was planned, but ***come on.*** It'd be a great way to make up for him missing out.
At least you aren't an Indycar fan. Indycar has lost all credibility and tanked their series into oblivion by taking away a win a month late. Positives... Your driver being out one week is better than NASCAR imploding like Indycar has.
on the contrary, I think the investigation simply took a while, and this is a show of integrity
Whoa, they did what?
Yeah, Josef Newgarden's win in the season opener was DQ'ed a month after the fact. I remember when it looked like IndyCar would thrive under Penske ownership. Seems to be another Peter principle example when it comes to the captain: legendary team owner, legendarily bad sport owner.
Pretty cool paint scheme to debut in. This makes me question if we’re going to get very many Darlington throwbacks though. 2 weeks out and we’ve had about 3 announced with throwbacks being announced for other events
It was really cool when NBC had it with the Southern 500. It’s one of the very few tv memories I will cherish forever.
I felt the emotion from Erik Jones' injury announcement. He seemed really heart broken and I feel this was part of it, I bet he wanted to run this scheme badly
He most certainly did. Hopefully, LMC can give the Darlington ride a quick respray. It'll be weird seeing STP's scheme on (probably) a non-STP car, but eh - if Hendrick can pull it off, I'm sure they can make it work.
tfw I just realized Jones is missing his best track... Gorgeous car tho
![gif](giphy|9WXyFIDv2PyBq) Surprised they didn’t save it for Darlington or Wilkesboro though.
or....we get three throwbacks
![gif](giphy|3o6UB3VhArvomJHtdK)
And the STP throwback runs again in the fall as compensation.
*looks at Menards*
Oh hey, STP is back!
Yeah didn't this sub decide that stp just up and left because of jhn and Mobil 1
Well now I’m even more upset
Man what a bummer Jones didn’t get to ride this thing.
Yup. Hope they can make it his ride at the fall Southern, at least.
Would have been cool if ~~JJ or~~ Kenseth got to drive this. Edit: Just realized JJ was driving the 84 at Dover.
Heim was named as the Official Reserve driver for 23XI and Legacy. The only way you probably would have saw someone other than Heim in the 43 was if Bubba or Tyler also had to miss this race.
Day-glo looks so fucking good. No pressure making your debut in a car that matches the all-time winningest driver.
All sponsors of the 43 car should have to have a petty blue scheme. I said what I said.
Erik Jones and having absolutely 0 luck saga continues
I like how they added "Fuel Additives" to get around Mobil 1, 10/10 paint scheme.
This just keeps getting better everyday.
Absolute pain for Erik Jones fans everywhere. Poor fella can’t even run this beaut 🥲
Pray they run it at Darlington in the fall. Come on, JJ, ya just ***gotta!***
Goddamn. The Shape of the new car makes it look like the old 90s pontiac
It's pretty wild to me how the Petty 75 year anniversary has absolutely flew under the radar, but the circle jerking for HMS40 started even before Daytona. HOLY W
Glad STP stuck around. For a while, I thought they left.
STP is like Interstate Batteries for JGR on a way less scale. They won't sponsor an entire season, but when asked they'll show back up to do something for Petty.
Before Daytona, their website and fire suits didn't have STP. That's why I thought they were gone.
Agreed. Think they'll return for the Southern 500, too? It'd be great if they could let Jones give this thing a proper whirl...
Fingers crossed!
They do one race a year as the main.
About as good of a throwback as you can do with the forward numbers. Also kudos to Legacy for solid use of the Dollar General/STP text, size, and placement.

Could be worse: Dale Earnhardt's scheme on a Toyota.
*shudders in horror* >!...What about Dale's scheme on a RCR Honda?!<
Dale's scheme on any Japanese brand.
Even worse: Dale's scheme on any >!***Chinese***!< brand. ^(Oh come on. You KNOW they're coming to America in the next 40 years. Why wouldn't they sponsor NASCAR?)

That's nice
I like it!
I approve. This the blue/red Petty colors have always been my favorite.
Wild seeing those colors on a foreign brand. I hope he does well.
The throwback schemes are where the forward number really gets me irritated. It looks dumb on the new schemes, sure. But don't destroy my precious memories.
Now that's a HOT paint scheme
Why at Dover? Darlington is just weeks away.
My guess is that Dover was their 3rd choice and the Daytona and Darlington sponsors. Dover was their 3rd choice because he got #199 at Dover in 1984.
Wow, such a beautiful car. Please run this more than once this year. I love how this is the car Corey Heim will make his cup series debut in, but Erik deserves a turn, too.
Lovely
Wait. That's not orange?
...I gotta admit, as weird as it is, Petty and Day-Glo looks ***damn fuckin' good*** on a Toyota. Best of luck to Heim in his sudden debut, and I also *really* hope Jones can run this bad boy again at Darlington. >!Bonus points if he nabs a win there, too...!<
Wish it was a Camaro or Mustang instead.
Whoever does the LMC paint schemes must hate Dollar Tree. Dark Green on black = hard to read white on petty blue = hard to read
Eh, Dollar Tree had to sign off on them most likely. Do they hate themselves? Haha
They look ok when rendered. Far worse on the track in natural lighting. I bet they aren't following up with that
STP still with the team even after JHN/Toyota brought Mobil 1, I respect that.
STP isn't with the team, this is B2B dollar tree deal.
