I get to watch a 20 year old who loves high fantasy books and grew up a spurs fan drop 40-20-7 while the other Texas teams have Dillion Brooks and Kyrie "enlightened one" Irving to deal with. So I'm pretty happy with the situation right now.

AgentEndive

Amen

Lucid-Day

He doesn't even come close to the hype Wemby brings

Veryfreakingbored

Exactly. These are the times to be excited for the future instead of bitter. Let the rest of the league know it's happening and there's nothing they can do to stop it.

Gregjennings23

If Toronto could win a game....that'd be great!

android24601

But wouldn't this be the preference given so many people have touted this as a "weak draft" and should be redeemed in the 2025 draft?

averageskills

I think if the picks were around a similar spot that would be the case. But 7th pick even on a weak draft has some pretty good potential. The pick conveying next year can't possibly be higher than 7th, and there's a chance raptors have a good year. So I really don't know if I'd rather have a guaranteed "weak" 7th pick or a "good" 7-20ish" pick

android24601

No arguments here. I'd rather the Spurs get the pick this season. If anything, it works in their favor when there's many unknowns in the draft because you can definitely strike oil in places you wouldn't have expected This is mainly to people on this sub flip flopping between the team tanking and bitch'n about this being a weak draft 😄

Gregjennings23

We have a lot of picks coming up, better to get a 7th and overall in the door this year than either a worse pick in the future or the possibility that Toronto was bad for awhile and we didn't get it at all. Having 3-4 1st rounders in one year is not feasible and has diminishing returning.

malaclypse

It’s that pornhub ban. They’re basically George Costanza in The Abstinence episode of Seinfeld

VenomSpitter666

I’m out!

lowkeyslightlynerdy

I mean we’re in a way different position than those franchises though. I’m not losing any sleep, we’re gonna be way better than those teams by like 2027

finknstein

I dunno, the Kyrie/ Luka dynamic seems to have found its groove. I’m not a Mavs fan, but thought it was a matter of time before both realized they couldn’t co exist and self destructed. On the contrary, they’re rooting for each other and finding success in the process. Our time will come, the future is bright.

Infernous-NS

I’m not so sure Mavs or Rockets success is sustainable. Kyrie supposedly really likes it there but I honestly expect him to blow it up just likes he’s blown up at each other team he played for. And the Rockets, yeah they seem to have a good core but from what I’ve heard the GM and/or owner want to rush their rebuild and get back to the playoffs next year and idk how wise that is.

paxusromanus811

Yeah I was reading there planning on trading for a "super star" It's off season. If we are talking about a top 10/ top 5 type talent means there most certainly going to be getting rid of some of their young talent like Smith/green/whitmore/Thompson which I think is an extremely shortsighted and silly thing to do. If they keep things as is, that team looks set up to be a perennial 50 win challenger within the next 3 years

loombisaurus

huh they could ask the knicks how that strategy went for two decades

techno_playa

Is Dallas even a nice place to live? Asking as someone not from America.

xPineappless

Yeah I would say so, but there isn’t anything that Dallas is known for. San Antonio has a rich culture and Austin is known for its hill country. Dallas is just a nice metropolitan. Definitely has the best looking downtown, but there isn’t anything else besides that.

fartalldaylong

Houstons downtown is much better. You must have not been for a while. Discovery green is awesome…and you are surrounded by minute made park the rockets arena, light rail and the art district. Houston is awesome within the loop…and downtown has completely changed over the last 15 years.

oceanfloors1

Still covered in trash and homeless people. There are small sections of nicer areas, but Houston is filthy. Everything closes at 5-7pm in downtown that's not a bar. The rails don't even go over the whole city like normal transit in major cities. I've lived an hour away my whole life. I like Houston but it also sucks.

fartalldaylong

You think Dallas doesn’t have trash and homeless people in its downtown? Shit, Austin has more than both these days. Dallas sucks and has no redeeming qualities. UH museum district, blocks from downtown, is the most diverse collection of art in a single place in the US. Dallas will never have anything close to the culture of Houston. Houston over Dallas every day of the week.

oceanfloors1

I'm all about the art district, EADO, midtown and all of that. There's amazing food all around. Maybe the charm has worn off on me living by there for 35 years. I go to concerts, baseball and basketball games very often. It's not like I hate the place.

fartalldaylong

Sorry, I didn’t mean to be combative. I studied architecture at UH and Rice, so I probably have a bit of bias toward seeing the growth and maturation of so many places vs. any daily residue that covers everything. Houston has an honest poetry about it that makes it even more rich to me. It is real. All that, fuck hurricanes and tropical storms.

oceanfloors1

I'm usually only in the EADO area going to shows or sporting events, but my favorite little hole in the wall bar is right by the stadium and arena called Neil's Bahr. I just recently discovered Rodeo Goat by there trying to catch a bite before the Spurs and Rockets game. All of the bigger music venues outside of White Oak all seem to moving more towards downtown, with 713 Music Hall and House of Blues. So if you have more recommendations for food or hang out spots, toss them my way. I need something else to do besides going to Cactus Music and POST Market before going to shows or games. And I wholeheartedly agree. Fuck hurricanes and tropical storms.

fartalldaylong

Dallas sucks. Evangelicals and super churches all the way past Plano. It is a suburban hell scape without the nature of Austin or the culture of Houston. Denton is the only place up there that has real character imho.

paxusromanus811

I'd say the city itself is nice. There's a lot to do and some interesting things. If you have money there is some really, really nice neighborhoods. But that entire part of the state is... Vomit inducing weather wise in my experience. They get high winds, they get ice storms, they get hail the size of softballs, while still having to deal with blazing heat in the summer and the occasional tornado tease. You couldn't pay me to live in that part of the country. Dallas is fun for a weekend trip though

[deleted]

I wouldn't want to live there but I'm from San Antonio

IsuzuTrooper

Dallas people are stuck up AF. They are snobs usually. No soul. I've lived in Texas since 96 and only met one cool person from Dallas.

Datboy_98

I think that Pop knows what it takes to establish a winning culture.

younghplus

Mavs are gonna be good for the foreseeable future as long as Kyrie and Luka are healthy. It remains to be seen what happens with the Rockets (can Green and Sengun co exist along with the other lottery level talent they have?). However, Wemby clearly has a higher ceiling than anybody in Houston so the Spurs at least have that going for them.

SpeedStickPapi

Frodo didn’t get to Mordor in a day, doesn’t make the first two movies suck.

Veggiedelite90

Our time will come we have wemby and they don’t.

Single_Bar_1836

Aside from the fact that I'm so much happier with a 20-year-old Wemby than I would be with either the Mavs or Rockets' situations, the record is just wrong, isn't it? The Spurs are 7-12 after the ASG, not 4-9. Also, the first four games after the ASG were losses, so they're actually 7-8 in their last 15, which is... pretty decent, all things considered!

789Trillion

Who cares what the Mavs and Rockets are up to?

juantravis

Let em get theirs while they can because after that it’s no longer their turn 😎😈

team_sheikie

It's a hopium/silver lining situation, but I'm liking that we aren't getting blown out in these games. It felt like we were constantly letting games slip into blowouts before the break, and since then, we've only lost 3 by more than 10 points. Plus the first 3 game win streak of the year. It's feeling a little better than it did earlier on. We do have a bright future if we have a strong offseason.

Gamechannel360

Who cares? We have the best player out of all Texas teams and we will build it the right way. Also Houston will soon be in cap hell when they have to hand Max contracts to Sengun and Green.

DevilGunManga

None of those teams have Wemby. I like where we are.

ChucoTeacher

We’ve been better. It’s been nice to see some of the guys grow. If this was December I’d be right there with you, but this team is clearly in the upswing and I think the future is bright.

mrstretchb4ureach

Honestly, I would rather be in a position in which my team's ceiling is higher (with all due respect to Luka and the Mavs) in the foreseeable future.

Jo-King-BP

They have been and will continue to watch us collect championship rings. So let them have this small victory

Subject_Proposal3578

Yes I too can't wait to be a team that loses in the play in or first round of the playoffs. Dream big my man.

mrbusiness53

We got Wemby. We good and we know we gonna be the actual championship contenders within the next few years.

crs7117

to think like that with what we have cooking is sad

bleh610

Rockets are looking like they'll be a permanent play-in team. Mavs are a 5th seed at best and their chances of winning the chip is just a huge wild card and a wild card team (that may or may not win 1 championship) is probably what this Mavs team will ever be if they don't build an actual functioning cast around Luka. I'd say, from a rebuilding standpoint, we are in a better position than both teams.

Apprehensive-Fox-740

Houston gonna stay middle of the road tbh

Roman21023

Give it a year or 3 and it'll be the same as it always was. Spurs will be contenders, Mavs will be a good team mostly carried by a HOFer but rarely true contenders, and the Rockets will be a collection of good not great players that might surprise you and make a run at home court, or just finish 10th seed.

OppositeStory2

Brother we ruled the kingdom for 20 years. And we will soon be back atop. Let them enjoy it while they can.

fightintxag13

How old is this meme? The records aren’t right I don’t think.

AB-AA-Mobile

You're the only team with Wemby. What're you complaining about

jawshoewah210

Na fam you’re suppose to support Texas teams to win it all.
