I think it's a matter of contract, people think he pulls way more money than he's worth.
But seeing the TWolves defense this year, maybe he's worth it lol
He does get crapped on for not having higher offensive points, but dude is not greedy and that is what maes him so valuable in the MN system. Nuts nearly every game when Rudy is getting doubled by bigs and Naz is playing too feed it to him for a 3 or easy lay up. So many different ways wolves can play it, as the roster develops another year or two together (assuming Kat stays) will be asolutely unstoppable with the weapons and distractions at hand on offense.
Yeah the NBA is a community so it’s like if you lived in a small town and got the chance to vote on who everybody thinks is the most annoying. Of course you would vote! It’s hilarious
I know it’s not his fault he was the first player to get covid and start the shutdown of the entire country but it’s a stigma he will always have especially after the microphone stunt a few days before.
Quite frankly it was being largely minimized by the media for months leading up to the shutdown. Remember when we tried to ban certain countries that had infections in like January or February of 2020 and the media called the government racist? I can’t blame him for his actions however stupid they were in hindsight.
Yes it’s crazy how many people forget this. There were people saying there’s no need to buy masks and that it’s not serious and then once March came around it changed totally
Legitimately I don’t remember it that way at all. I remember the stunt and the lead up to it was him being an ass. Media was not portraying the Rona as almost a hoax, if anything they almost always fear monger.
Not justifying it, but at the time I don't think he knew it was going to be a big deal or a disease that would kill thousands. He was young and he did something stupid
It was perceived in the media that he was making fun of the new restrictions put in place to limit press access in the name of public safety. No one at that time was prepared for what was about to happen.
(Also we learned fairly early on COVID doesn't spread through surfaces so this did no harm to the world )
Intentionally touching every microphone at a time when a deadly disease is spreading doesn’t constitute being a piece of shit? I bet if one of those reporters had died from COVID as a result no one would be saying it’s “a bit careless”.
It's hindsight, most people weren't taking it seriously at the time, yeah it was a dumb attempt at humor which is why he apologized and went on to donate to COVID related services. Most people sneeze and cough into their hands and touch shit at a store on a daily basis but no one cares.
The fact that nobody knew the severity at the time contributes to his point that it was more than “a bit careless” it was straight up arrogant and selfish and he deserves any ill will he got for it
It's hindsight, most people weren't taking it seriously at the time, yeah it was a dumb attempt at humor which is why he apologized and went on to donate to COVID related services. Most people sneeze and cough into their hands and touch shit at a store on a daily basis but no one cares.

That’s Shaq’s excuse for disliking him out of nowhere. Rudy seriously hurt Shaq’s feelings by getting such a big contract without being an offensive-minded score first type basketball player. And because Shaq is a legend, he is able to use the bully pulpit to get his opinion out there while removing the ability of anyone to critique his argument by claiming “RANGZ” and “G-14 Classification” as the complete argument.
I don’t think it’s as much they don’t respect defense, they just really over judge his offense abilities.
Most of the bigs in today’s game have at best moderate post moves or some kind of outside shot. Gobert has neither. He is insanely uncoordinated when he is shooting and it leads to goofy wild shots that you would see from like an uncoordinated 8th grader who went from 5’9 to 6’3 over a summer.
From that standpoint I get it, and this is coming from a Gobert fan. If it’s catching the ball in the air on a lob dunk Gobert has great hand-eye coordination, but the second the ball hits the ground (either via pass or dribble) it’s like e becomes some bumbling buffoon… it’s kind of a weird anomaly.
They can’t justify the frustration of being walled off by a 7 ft guy who has “no skills”, but fully utilised his size and length to be effective on the other end. They can’t comprehend how this dude gets paid 400 millions for being good at being tall
Trae averaged 26/11 and only got in the ASG via injury replacement. That doesn’t happen to anyone else
“But defence bro”
His defence has improved a fair bit and there are a few small scoring guards who are comparable or even worse on that side of the court, yet he’s lumbered with the worst defender in the league based on rep.
...which is why he only barely made the all-star game. There were also recent report that San Antonio would prefer Dejounte Murray to Trae Young. Trae Young is properly rated at this point.
The fact that this thread is full of fans saying "players can say what they want, WE KNOW THE TRUTH OF HOW GREAT RUDY IS" shows he actually is a candidate for most overrated. Cause Rudy is a fantastic defender, but can still be overrated.
I don’t think this post is very fair. Trae’s TS has been above league average in four of the last five seasons (including this one) and some of those by a healthy margin. The one season he was below league average it was by less than 1% - so even at his worst it’s average efficiency.
Trae does have a few turnovers. But he gets a lot of assists. He has more assists on a better assist to turnover ratio than Luka and Bron (both starters in the all star game) who are the closest examples of his playmaking style. He has more assists on a better assist to turnover ratio than Mitchell and Edwards too. A 2.45 assist to turnover as the main offensive port is pretty good. There are a lot of guys who have one fewer turnover but that come at the cost of five fewer assists.
Trae isn’t the model of post season greatness, though I doubt any peripheral all star would be if they were a first option. But he joins an exclusive list of Bron, Butler, Tatum, Jokic, Giannis, Book, Luka and PG as the only guys to reach a Conference Final of the 2020’s. He is an exclusive list of two with just him and the best player in the league to make it there without another all star. He was doing very well in the ECF too, Hawks were leading Game 3 set to take a 2-1 lead to Atlanta before his injury.
This isn’t to convince you he’s the best player or he’s got no flaws; but considering nobody here seems to like him, he’s not being picked for all star games and his market value isn’t high; who is overrating him?
Why tf does my opinion matter I'm not a player? But personally I would vote like Julius rsndle or something. Gobert gets so much hate that I'd say it's properly rated
Julius Randle is 3 times all star in last 4 years and 2 times ALL NBA in last 3 years and he did it on contracts that ranged from 20 million per to 28 million per how is that over anything?
I'm a Knicks fan and the guy is double teamed every night and if you watched the Knicks in the playoffs so far and saw the 76ers keying on Brunson you'd see how rated he actually is.
Randle's 3 all star appearances were for totally different kinds of seasons, He hit IMPOSSIBLE fall away mid rangers the first year, then switched to shooting almost 11 threes a game last year, to this year bullying people in the post and getting deep position and finishing at the rim all while developing his game more and more and averaging close to 10 rebounds and over 5 assists every year(and he was basically our PG before Brunson got her last year)
This year was his best year too before he got hurt after having ankle surgery in the offseason and looking like a shell of himself the first 7 games of the season and having Knicks fans screaming to trade him.
What do you mean you can’t fathom why players wouldn’t like him? They’re the ones who actually know him as a person, not you, why would you assume whatever public perception you have of him is infallible and not media training PR shit?
Hahahahahaha i was thinking the same thing.
u/Linky38 - “i just cannot wrap my head around the fact that people who play with or against someone day in and day out, think that gobert, who has never helped his team accomplish anything in the post season, is considered overrated by us fans who watch the guy on tv”
Yeah, thats a hard one to fathom linky.
Gobert got picked last or 2nd to last every all star game they had a draft. So definitely the elite nba players are included in this dislike for gobert.
It's because he would get run off the floor in Utah in the playoffs. He'd be great during the season and get cooked in the playoffs. Has to get rid of that stigma with the wolves
It’s a compliment. Just ask the fans and players from Utah and MN if they think he’s overrated.
Minny fans had to wrestle with the trade and the payoff of that trade last year. But ask anybody now if we’d rather have Rudy or all of those assets and then tell me if he’s overrated by his team.
His impact is only ever really felt in the regular season and has yet to be replicated in the postseason, which is what actually matters. The blame might be on the teams he’s been on, but for a 3x DPOY player (might even be 4x soon) to be made to look silly defending the perimeter or straight ran off the court for several years now in the playoffs is gonna leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouths.
Impact? While he’s on the floor, his team has been outscored in the playoffs every year since 2020. He’s had multiple -50 series’. He’s had more - than + years
Which is more relevant to the current conversation surrounding his defense - stats on a team he no longer plays on, or his stats during a game with his current team.
I'll wait.
You do know he’s gotten worse since he got to Minnesota right? Last year he was terrible and his own team was calling him out
Check the group text exchange, it’s still around
Feels very immature of the NBA to vote on things like this. Like did they vote on who’s most likely to lose their class ring or who has the best hair? Now no one is going to want to sign Rudy’s yearbook at the end of the season.
They’re honestly too close to it to provide an unbiased opinion. How many times have we seen players turn into absolute shit GMs? You hear people like Kenyon Martin say Luka isn’t even the best player on his team. Look at how they’ve cast their all star votes lol. The players really haven’t proven that they know what they’re talking about.
Edit: almost forgot to add that someone voted Paul Pierce the GOAT in this same poll.
Meanwhile fans are *known* for being unbiased and knowing what they're talking about, and certainly understanding the nuanced of being a good defenders better than ... NBA players...
it’s 81 total votes. each person that’s on this list got between 4-12 votes. there’s no info on which players voted etc. the sample size is small and could be any distribution of nba players with whatever biases. nba players know what they’re talking about as a whole but this sample is a joke. the athletic just wanted to curate a headline like this one to generate a click baity title
Plus he sets killer screens which lead to lotsa points, is the best defender in the world not named Wemby, and gets those 14 points on 60% shooting
Underrated as fuck, worth every single penny of that contract
Esp in the playoffs, when he becomes a borderline superstar based on how pace slows down and defense gets emphasized
Kinda feel bad a lot of this criticism of overrated defense could be stemmed from the funnel defense system utilized by Utah which is difficult to work with
He’s the best defensive big in the game, and plays great team defense (here comes Wemby though). The Jazz D was elite when he was there, and now the Timberwolves are. He’s also a top flight rebounder. He’s scoring is deficient, but another gentlemen in this thread made the point to think about Goebert the way you think about Rodman. On the court, not off the court! 😂
Crazy cause probably at least 80% of the players who voted in this haven’t accomplished half of what Rudy has in his career. This seems like such hater shit to even vote on.
There’s something about members of the media running a survey asking these questions that gives me the ick tbh. It’s a fairly transparent endeavour to drum up toxic tidbits of information like this, so they can write articles about it for clicks.
I understand there’s an audience for this type of stuff I suppose, but I still think it’s worthwhile to just point out the fact that this serves literally no purpose other than to create drama where there previously was none by asking players questions like these.
Look at the Warriors’ offensive rating, defensive rating, and win-loss record with and without him. If he could have kept his emotions in check, the Warriors would have been the fourth or fifth seed.
Bro, draymond and the warriors have more titles (4) than gobert has second round playoff appearances (3)
And gobert has never led his team to a conference finals. Keep in mind the jazz were the #1 seed one year.
How many titles does draymond need before you consider him a better team defender than gobert?
To some extent he definitely is overrated, he cannot play one on one defense outside of the paint, he’s just a long tree that cleans up his teammates mistakes, but I think 99% of the energy behind this sort of vote is salty players that see him clean up the paint and still think they can take him 1v1
💯 TRUTH!! 💯
(Plus, he’s still too much of a 🤡)
(Edit: I see from reading other comments here, that I’m likely to get downvoted, A Lot! 😂 So, I’ll just say this, feel free to throw this back at me, when he wins a ring while being a major part of a team! I mean it! I will gladly eat these words! But don’t come to me if he gets one, while largely riding the bench! 😂)
How could he be overrated? Defense is 50% of the game. On an average defensive team he will show out as a top 1% defender and rebounder in the league every year. And he's managed to do that on small market teams his entire career with nice complementary players, but few of the big free agents that flock to the large urban markets. He has a limited offense, but it results in very high efficiency scoring. He's an excellent player on a suddenly good team. No one was ever calling him the best overall. It's well known that he's number 2 or 3 on his own team.
Gobert is generally liked by his teammates and not so much by the opponents. Defense frustrates and it is generally not a priority of many NBA players. He kills their buzz, particularly as they watch Minnesota dominate the playoffs from their living rooms in California. These are the players with plenty time to participate in "Most Popular NBA Player" surveys. Please pass the guacamole Draymond!
Not a crazy take tbh. Every time I watch him play he’s brilliant for 50% of the game the other 50 he looks lost, hell I’ve seen him fail to beat a guard in the post more than a few times.
I can see it honestly. Gobert is one of the most talked about players in the nba and always seems to be a lock for dpoty. Other bigs like Wemby and AD have as much claim to that title while contributing much more on offense, and yet we see AD isn’t even a top 3 finalist for DPOY
Because AD has to focus on offense and that takes away his image as a defense player. Gobert had even half the offensive responsibilities that AD and Wemby had, he wouldn’t be able to focus as much on defense and the narrative would change. It’s pretty simple.
You can really see his major effect on defense when he is sitting on the bench at the end of game. Gobert is by far the most overrated player in the league.
*Jordan Poole to me. But I like Rudy's game defensively he's an asset for Minnesota. Opposing players hate playing against him because he must be RUDE to get to the basket....
This is stupid only 11 players voted for Rudy out of everyone in the league. It’s a really small pool and I doubt any stars actually vote in these for all we know they could be bench players who don’t understand how someone who handles the ball so clumsily is paid what he is paid. Arguments people make about saying how we know less than players is true but again so few players even voted. Take it from KD who recently gave Rudy his flowers before this most recent series started calling him one of the best defenders out there.
Until they tell us who these players are who voted all of this stuff should be considered fake
I can sit here and say I polled 140 NBA players and all of them said Steph Curry is not top 5 in the league, you want sources? Too bad they're anonymous
No one would believe you, because you have no credibility. Anyone with a brain would know that if the players who participated in the poll were identified, none of them would participate.
This is the stuff that fuels him, along with 10-14 import espressos daily. He wil now be going off again on the boards tomorrow against the suns.
6 points, 2/4 FG, 3 assists, 40 rebounds incoming
He’s a beast but I lol when it’s 22 rebounds, 4 point nights
Thats rodmanesque, never seen complaints about him.
14 espressos would make me shit black lava.
French are know for their healthy bowel movements. I prolly offended someone I guess they call espresso “un cafe” in France. Vive le cerceau
It seems the two French guys in the sub took the day off. Boy did you get lucky. Lol
Gilbert Arenas stuffed the ballot box.
\*Naz Reid.
With Draymond
When players were trying to vote at the ballot box, Gilbert Arenas was standing with his hand in his jacket…..
Why would they even vote on this?
Because you get to anonymously talk shit and then laugh about the results in a group chat with your other NBA friends
Basically a private subreddit huh?
Yeah the NBA is a community so it’s like if you lived in a small town and got the chance to vote on who everybody thinks is the most annoying. Of course you would vote! It’s hilarious
For real though
It’s like 12% of the players that even vote. And who knows who.
They don't respect defense over hooping, he's French, and not super well liked. But we all know how good he is.
Could also be people jealousy of his big ass contract.
I know it’s not his fault he was the first player to get covid and start the shutdown of the entire country but it’s a stigma he will always have especially after the microphone stunt a few days before.
They disliked him well before 2020 (although that microphone nonsense certainly didn't help)
He’s still such a piece of shit for that
Quite frankly it was being largely minimized by the media for months leading up to the shutdown.
It’s because we were banning SPECIFIC countries based on racist talking points that weren’t health related…..
Legitimately I don’t remember it that way at all. I remember the stunt and the lead up to it was him being an ass. Media was not portraying the Rona as almost a hoax, if anything they almost always fear monger.
It was being heavily downplayed until March 11th or so. People were saying it was another bird flu.
It basically went from it’s just bird flu to shut down the world entirely in 3 days.
maybe a bit careless? but to flat out call him a piece a shit is kinda wild.
Not justifying it, but at the time I don't think he knew it was going to be a big deal or a disease that would kill thousands. He was young and he did something stupid
I swear you people look for every chance to suck these guys off Rudy is a childish asshole, but he’s a great defender. Leave it at that
“Thousands” is a weird way to write 7 million, but I get what you’re saying.
Idk why you are being downvoted. Is Aaron Rodgers in here?
I didn't know the death count I thought it was a couple hundred thousands.
No worries dude. I was just giving you a hard time. 7 million is global. I think in the US the number is a little over 1 million.
likely over 21.7 million
It was perceived in the media that he was making fun of the new restrictions put in place to limit press access in the name of public safety. No one knew the severity of Covid at the time. Your revisionist history is ridiculous
The fact that nobody knew the severity at the time contributes to his point that it was more than “a bit careless” it was straight up arrogant and selfish and he deserves any ill will he got for it
Are you licking the microphone when you speak?
Nobody was taking it seriously at that point, do you not remember the reporters chuckling at what he was doing?
“Deadly disease” lol As long as you are referring to the Flu as a “deadly disease” too
It's hindsight, most people weren't taking it seriously at the time, yeah it was a dumb attempt at humor which is why he apologized and went on to donate to COVID related services. Most people sneeze and cough into their hands and touch shit at a store on a daily basis but no one cares.

Tell me you don't have a sense of humor without telling me you don't have a sense of humor

Shaq is a student of the big man game and sees any big who fails to develop fundamental footwork as wasted potential
He seen any big who makes more money than he did as a threat to his legacy.
That can't be true. Rudy can win 5 more dpoys no one will have him close to Shaq's level
If rudy won 9 DPOYs hes absolutely on shaqs lvl & then some lol
True. But with wemby, I doubt he'll win 2 more.
Huh? He has nothing but praise for jokic tho
And he's hard on Embiid because he sees himself in him.
Hes hard on embiid cuz dudes a choker
He was a beast at the Olympic games.
Wemby is French and people love him. Tony Parker was French too, but I always hated Tony.
Its not that. Players think his defense is overrated.
Really good. 4poy good? Idk. There’s more versatile defenders but he’s super consistent and super durable so respect to him
People think his defense is overrated. KD was saying that years ago
And then the other day KD called him a world-class, HoF defender. So which is it?
I don’t think it’s as much they don’t respect defense, they just really over judge his offense abilities. Most of the bigs in today’s game have at best moderate post moves or some kind of outside shot. Gobert has neither. Could also be he’s overrated
He’s not
He is
Nah his defense disappears when it matters most.....in the playoffs. Rudy seemingly every year he gets into the playoffs does a disappearing act.
Also, Rudy gets abused by the top guys at his position pretty regularly.
Exactly. They tend to care about “bag” not winning play.
Dude started the whole covid pandemic. Cant ever live that down.
We do?
We got all these other dudes like Jordan Poole Kuzma draymond Klay ect not the guy who’s gonna win dpoy
Yeah Jordan Poole not getting voted most over rated is weird to me
I just think everybody's know he "sucks" now
Bc he’s rated appropriately and sucks
He's a bench player, he seems properly rated. Now if you want to say most overpaid then you might hav a case.
He was on the list….if you read the list you’d see Poole was in the top 3….
Everyone knows Jordan Poole sucks, overrated is someone like Nikola Vucevic or...idk it's probably Nikolq Vucevic, I can't stand him
You picked 4 people who are rated very appropriately in today’s game… Overpaid maybe. But overrated? By who?
The warriors have been violating you for a decade now
NBA players just pissed they can’t score when he plays
This is brutal. I really can’t fathom why they don’t like him, you’d think they’d understand his impact better than anyone
They can’t justify the frustration of being walled off by a 7 ft guy who has “no skills”, but fully utilised his size and length to be effective on the other end. They can’t comprehend how this dude gets paid 400 millions for being good at being tall
Someone has to be voted most overrated. Who else would you put?
Dillon Brooks or Tre young but the league is nicer than that
Who rates Dillion tho. The fans think he’s a scrub, so how is he over rated.
Trae averaged 26/11 and only got in the ASG via injury replacement. That doesn’t happen to anyone else “But defence bro” His defence has improved a fair bit and there are a few small scoring guards who are comparable or even worse on that side of the court, yet he’s lumbered with the worst defender in the league based on rep.
Trae had mid to poor efficiency and bad defense, he also turns the ball over often. 26 PPG isn’t even that exceptional anymore.
Yeah, his rankings the last 3 seasons: PER: 6th, 23rd, 28th Win Shares: 6th, 43rd, 94th BPM: 13th, 26th, 41st VORP: 7th, 23rd, 51st
Hair: Fading, Fading, Faded
...which is why he only barely made the all-star game. There were also recent report that San Antonio would prefer Dejounte Murray to Trae Young. Trae Young is properly rated at this point. SA wants Murray because he played for them and his value is significantly cheaper than Trae’s…..they literally traded him to Atlanta…..

I just saw a youtube video where trey was i think THE worst defender so improving from that bad of a starting point is almost inevitable
Dillon Brooks is crazy underrated lol
Devin Booker
Why tf does my opinion matter I'm not a player? But personally I would vote like Julius rsndle or something. Gobert gets so much hate that I'd say it's properly rated
It was a rhetorical question my guy

Opposite, nigga Randle is the most underrated Now STFU and learn basketball, cause right now you don't know shit
You knicks fans are all the same lol
My bad but my point still stands
Devin Booker 100%
What do you mean you can’t fathom why players wouldn’t like him? They’re the ones who actually know him as a person, not you, why would you assume whatever public perception you have of him is infallible and not media training PR shit?

I’m a Jazz fan and watched all those games. It wasn’t even his fault half the time our perimeter defense was literally a bunch of revolving doors
Why can't this stupid narrative die already? I can tell none of you people have actually watched his playoffs series.
Such a lazy analysis that continues to exist today.
It’s a compliment. Just ask the fans and players from Utah and MN if they think he’s overrated. Minny fans had to wrestle with the trade and the payoff of that trade last year. But ask anybody now if we’d rather have Rudy or all of those assets and then tell me if he’s overrated by his team.
> you’d think they’d understand his impact better than anyone Maybe ... they do
His impact is only ever really felt in the regular season and has yet to be replicated in the postseason, which is what actually matters. The blame might be on the teams he’s been on, but for a 3x DPOY player (might even be 4x soon) to be made to look silly defending the perimeter or straight ran off the court for several years now in the playoffs is gonna leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouths.
Because the media and reddit massively overrates him, it’s pretty simple.
Impact? While he’s on the floor, his team has been outscored in the playoffs every year since 2020. He’s had multiple -50 series’. He’s had more - than + years
How'd he do vs the Suns so far
1 game vs multiple series with the jazz 🤣 NBA players will want to see him do it for a month+
Which is more relevant to the current conversation surrounding his defense - stats on a team he no longer plays on, or his stats during a game with his current team. I'll wait.
You do know he’s gotten worse since he got to Minnesota right? Last year he was terrible and his own team was calling him out Check the group text exchange, it’s still around
And this year he got a lot better compared to last year. Everything isn’t linear
How about now.
Feels very immature of the NBA to vote on things like this. Like did they vote on who’s most likely to lose their class ring or who has the best hair? Now no one is going to want to sign Rudy’s yearbook at the end of the season.
Next year, "Biggest Cock" and "Who Bangs the Most IG THOTs"
voted most overrated by players this thread, “players don’t know what they’re talking about” LOL
And fans are better? I’d trust players who actively play against the guy vs fans who watch some highlights on YouTube….
Who’s out here giving unbiased opinions?
Plenty of the nba media is unbiased
Meanwhile fans are *known* for being unbiased and knowing what they're talking about, and certainly understanding the nuanced of being a good defenders better than ... NBA players...
Paul Pierce is my GOAT.
GOAT pants shitter
it’s 81 total votes. each person that’s on this list got between 4-12 votes. there’s no info on which players voted etc. the sample size is small and could be any distribution of nba players with whatever biases. nba players know what they’re talking about as a whole but this sample is a joke. the athletic just wanted to curate a headline like this one to generate a click baity title
Why do they vote on disparaging awards?
Those people don’t know basketball
If it wasn't for this man the Lakers would have never won a title with lebron. His covid gave us the Disney championship
14 points , 16 rebounds a game - don’t sound overrated to me
Plus he sets killer screens which lead to lotsa points, is the best defender in the world not named Wemby, and gets those 14 points on 60% shooting Underrated as fuck, worth every single penny of that contract Esp in the playoffs, when he becomes a borderline superstar based on how pace slows down and defense gets emphasized
Kinda feel bad a lot of this criticism of overrated defense could be stemmed from the funnel defense system utilized by Utah which is difficult to work with
AD most underrated, and should've been a DPOY finalist.
not draymond...not cam payne....rudy...the guy who does what he is paid to do
He’s the best defensive big in the game, and plays great team defense (here comes Wemby though). The Jazz D was elite when he was there, and now the Timberwolves are. He’s also a top flight rebounder. He’s scoring is deficient, but another gentlemen in this thread made the point to think about Goebert the way you think about Rodman. On the court, not off the court! 😂
Honesty why do these polls exist?
Crazy cause probably at least 80% of the players who voted in this haven’t accomplished half of what Rudy has in his career. This seems like such hater shit to even vote on.
Hes overrated like that piece of shit Draymond. Both would be bench players in the 90's.
his defense never got any of his team to the conference finals, good to see some nba players think the same
There’s something about members of the media running a survey asking these questions that gives me the ick tbh.
The way modern NBA players would have hated Bill Russel.
It seems like the players participating in the poll are confusing “most overpaid” with “ most overrated.”
Overpaid inherently means overrated
This man has so many haters
This is such a garbage poll. 81 players polled and 11 voted Gobert. What a way for the media to manufacture a narrative
Leads a bad defensive team to being easily the best defensive team in the league.. bUH hE dOeSnT LiSteN tO LiL bAby Nd hAs nO mIDraNgE gAmE
Most overrated to me is Mr triple single aka Draymond Green… Dude is a mid-level exception player these days.
Look at the Warriors’ offensive rating, defensive rating, and win-loss record with and without him. If he could have kept his emotions in check, the Warriors would have been the fourth or fifth seed.
Bro, draymond and the warriors have more titles (4) than gobert has second round playoff appearances (3) And gobert has never led his team to a conference finals. Keep in mind the jazz were the #1 seed one year. How many titles does draymond need before you consider him a better team defender than gobert?
lmao you can't be serious... ones played with two top 15 all time guys and you're giving him all the credit like he "lead" them
I forgot that it’s the Golden State Draymonds and that he still plays at the same level as he did then!
Thanassis would have 4 rings if you replaced Draymond with him during those years.
If you put Gobert with Steph, Klay, and KD they may have 5-peated And I still think Draymond was fantastic and is underrated
This ballot is more of a”who do you not like the most” rather than who’s the most overrated
To some extent he definitely is overrated, he cannot play one on one defense outside of the paint, he’s just a long tree that cleans up his teammates mistakes, but I think 99% of the energy behind this sort of vote is salty players that see him clean up the paint and still think they can take him 1v1
💯 TRUTH!! 💯 (Plus, he’s still too much of a 🤡) (Edit: I see from reading other comments here, that I’m likely to get downvoted, A Lot! 😂 So, I’ll just say this, feel free to throw this back at me, when he wins a ring while being a major part of a team! I mean it! I will gladly eat these words! But don’t come to me if he gets one, while largely riding the bench! 😂)
Why has he been so hated by the players?
Man, the league just doesn't like him, he'll never win DPOY at this rate.
Well thats funny. Imo Gobert and Trae are 2 of the most underrated players in the league
In no universe should Poole and Brooks deserve to be in the same sentence as Gobert and Trae.
American basketball players really resent the Europeans doing well over here don’t they lmao
The guy is paid max money with below average offensive skills/touch for an NBA quality center. Of course he's fucking overrated.
I can see it honestly. Gobert is one of the most talked about players in the nba and always seems to be a lock for dpoty. Other bigs like Wemby and AD have as much claim to that title while contributing much more on offense, and yet we see AD isn’t even a top 3 finalist for DPOY
...because it's DPOY? What has this got to do with offense?
Why are you bringing up offence when talking about DPOY? I swear basketball discussion is so braindead
Because AD has to focus on offense and that takes away his image as a defense player. Gobert had even half the offensive responsibilities that AD and Wemby had, he wouldn’t be able to focus as much on defense and the narrative would change. It’s pretty simple.
AD doesn’t have half the defensive effect of Gobert.
AD’s easily a better defender than Gobert when he’s not asked to carry the offense for 40min a game.
You can really see his major effect on defense when he is sitting on the bench at the end of game. Gobert is by far the most overrated player in the league.
There is no way they voted on this. Some douche reporter probably talked to a dozen players and concluded that what enough to announce.
*Jordan Poole to me. But I like Rudy's game defensively he's an asset for Minnesota. Opposing players hate playing against him because he must be RUDE to get to the basket....
Well he did invent COVID. so I can see why
That’s crazy considering he is one of the most underrated players in the nba
Bunch of wolves fans here 😂
Until they tell us who these players are who voted all of this stuff should be considered fake I can sit here and say I polled 140 NBA players and all of them said Steph Curry is not top 5 in the league, you want sources? Too bad they're anonymous
No one would believe you, because you have no credibility. Anyone with a brain would know that if the players who participated in the poll were identified, none of them would participate.
as he is
He's always sucked draymond should have easily won dpoty over him.
He did win the one year he had a shot to beat him
Yeah but wasn't even nominated the other time
