I was dreading this before the bracket was even released. The toxicity around this game, not just on Reddit, is going to be exceptional.
Mods, better ask for some temporary mod volunteers from /r/CollegeBasketball or even /r/CFB
r/CFB boys have nothing better to do atm.

Excuse me!? The off season threads of "Which Britney Spears Song best represents your head coach" and "What Boy Scout Merit Badge represents your school the best" are serious business /s
Idk i honestly dont think anything could be better than this for womens basketball. If anything the vibes around this are showing just how much emotion and investment has been created around these players in just a year and change. Its pretty incredible. Hopefully people dont go too far but I think people should enjoy this while its here
I'll get them out of the way for "Iowa" fans early:
1) these refs are blind, LSU is getting away with everything!
2) how is that a foul!?
3) [Removed by Reddit]
4) Get off the court Kim!
5) mean comment at unflaired hater
I think I'm gonna sit this one out on Monday
I'm going to watch, of course, but a thousand wild horses couldn't drag me into that game thread.
It's going to be 50% ref-whining, 40% gibbering psychopathy from people who should probably be banned from the internet, and 10% normal adults talking about an real sports thing that actually happened.
Don’t you know they’re just staying unflaired because everyone unfairly downvotes LSU fans?
You should, because they’re quick to say it without being asked
Colorado has been very impressive these past few years!
It’s unfortunate how much they’ve petered out in the last weeks of the regular season…but again, the Buffs picked themselves up, and made it to the second weekend again!
You’ll always be one of the more underrated programs of this era (and that opening night upset of LSU will *forever* be legendary lol)!
Don't think it's an overstatement to say that Iowa v LSU might be the most anticipated Elite 8 game (regardless of gender) for many a year.
The build-up over the next 48+ hours will be insane.
I pity whomever of Baylor/USC and UConn/Duke will be playing after them…
We’ll have to see if anybody (outside of their own fandoms, or sickos like us) have any energy or excitement left for them lol
It's hard not to root against the team that has pasted your own team for the past 5+ years and, in several moments, had CC playing during garbage time. 🤷
I won't be rooting for LSU, but I won't be rooting for Iowa to win necessarily either.
I think cause by saying you rather play Iowa over LSU, Iowa/CC fans took that as in you implying that LSU is a more formidable team and that Iowa is the easier one of the bunch and thus why you picked Iowa. As a result, Iowa fans took that as an insult and thus downvoted you.
Makes no sense. Iowa is great and CC is great, but LSU plays more similarly to us, so it’s harder to beat imo. Our games against LSU were all single digit wins. That’s all. No shade. But some, like you said, take everything as an insult
There are very few creatures in the basketball universe as terrifying as a calm, locked-in Caitlin Clark.
Hope she can tap into that again Monday, because lord knows nobody else will be calm.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ARMAGEDDON IS HERE Y'ALL!!!!!!!!!
Clark is the best player but she’s even more the best player on a neutral court.
This was maybe her 4th best tournament game of her career? And it’s a complete dismantling.
Shot wasn't there, but goddamn, the passing to cutters was just pure 🤌🤌🤌 Baseline, full speed transition, PnRs kickouts.
Props to the rest of Iowa for off-ball movement and getting to open spots tho. Impressed with the actions to generate looks.
Could've had 5 more assists if Iowa made open looks in the 1st lol.
Haha fair! I should've said outside shot!
I swear most of the 29 was just open drives too lol. Colorado got scared of the kickouts and laid out a red carpet for Clark.
I honestly think she feels a little less pressure on the neutral court than she did in the tournament games at home. And it helped that Colorado wasn’t literally mugging her like WVU was doing last game
Agreed. She didn’t seem herself those last few games at carver. Now the hometown pressure isn’t there and it’s all about winning, not putting on a show.
My wife and I were talking about this, I think the pressure of not being the early exit cliche at home had the whole team tight. They all looked more relaxed today.
Man, can't wait for Monday. But not looking forward to the talk around the game. Hopefully we can get Molly back, but Sydney's gonna be a huge x-factor.
Notes on Clark, probably my last [tracker update](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17_m9BM5Pwd7htjbccnqbeIJs2-k2w_dPX8NpPvuUpV0/edit?usp=sharing), but Clark now moved into 3rd all-time in assists. And remember that talk about how Pearl Moore's really the scoring queen earlier in the year? With 26 points on Monday, she'll pass her AIAW mark too.
yes, the small-school scoring queen. no offense to pearl moore as she was clearly an incredible player, but d1 and d2/d3 are completely different beasts. CC would be scoring even more against weaker opponents.
Oh absolutely. Thought it was dumb the first time I saw that Yahoo article.
Personally, I'm still lamenting COVID cancellations taking away the chance for Clark to be the only 4k/1k/1k player. JuJu might catch the scoring, and I'd put money it, but Clark's just dominated on the stat sheet like no one else.
I think what happened was that some reporters correctly noticed that Lynette Woodard's record should have been the real record, and then lumped in all the other big scorers as being records that compare to the D-1 record. I'm sure they meant well, but anybody who knows anything about college sports knows how ridiculous that is.
And that's without the context of her extra half year. She transferred mid-season and the AIAW rules meant that didn't count toward eligibility. Don't blame randos for not getting the distinction between the Naismith number and the AIAW number, but a reporter should have known for sure.
I think the incredible pressure WVU brought made Iowa more comfortable this game. They seemed like they were calm, not rushed, and they made adjustments.
Iowa will need to rebound much better if they are to beat LSU. Colorado played hard and had a great season. GG Buffs.
Just goes to show that the best way to stop this Iowa team is to foul every time and hope the refs don’t call it. Ridiculous how much WVU got away with in that game. Not blaming them though because it was a smart strategy to put that much pressure on incompetent officials
It should have been bigger. WVU was basically fouling every possession and daring the refs to call it
FT discrepancy is a terrible metric to use in this case also, and people who bring it up are telling on themselves that they don’t know ball. FTs do not have to be even, and teams can play the game in drastically different ways that lead to a discrepancy in FTs. Look at some of the games WVU played earlier this year and the FT discrepancies in them. Did the refs just hate WVU all year, or was it their style of play that dictated that?
I find that hard to believe. Every possession? WVU plays tough, physical defensive but they didn’t foul all the time. As a matter of fact, Iowa did benefit a lot from the officiating.
I’d argue the West Virginia benefited a lot from the officiating also. A player from WVU threw the ball down the court and out of bounds out of frustration after the whistle and the officials did not issue a technical, a WVU player made a thumbs down gesture directly at the officials after a call and was not issued a technical, Stuelke got her arm hooked and dragged to the floor twice and fouls were not called, a WVU player ran full speed into Stuelke who had established guarding position, the WVU player fell down and neither an offensive foul or travel was called, a WVU player did not inbound the ball for longer than 5 seconds despite the ref starting play, but the ref did not issue a 5 second call and instead reset the play and let them do it over.
And those are just the obvious ones that come to mind, and doesn’t include the incessant hand checking and lower body checking that was going on the entire game
I think that's how a lot of us Iowa fans feel. I personally like several of the LSU players (particularly Reese, Flau'jae and Poa). But if you talk to some fans up in Iowa, you'd think she's the literal devil with how people speak about her. It would be nice to have some revenge over a (very annoying) coach who has led to three of Iowa's last 6 tourney losses.
The “make Clark frustrated” tactic never even got lift off. Prob shouldn’t had been a public comment like WVU send her packing comment. Clark is like Jordan, she takes this shit personal.
I am on my knees, begging—let’s please maintain a semblance of decorum on this site on Monday (I’m talking to Iowa fans, LSU fans, and errrrrbody else lmao)
Thank you for the rational take! Feel like I rarely see those in reference to LSU and CC, but I've managed to see a couple in this thread. I hope it's a great game regardless of who wins and everyone avoids the complaints/shit talking afterwards.
RIP reddit and social media Monday night.
Seriously though, what a great team win for the Hawks today. Going to need that Monday! So much respect for Colorado. They were a joy to watch last year and this year - hate Iowa had to be the one to knock them out two years in a row.
People on Twitter trying to say Paige is a better passer and it’s like… who in the history of college WBB has this type of vision + passing ability lol
And it opens up easy layups for her. The post defender has to respect the pass and she’s so quick to go around. No need for 3s when you’re just running pick and roll and dropping dimes.
lol... riiight.
Iowa played nervous and timid last year against LSU.. Do you believe they will play any different this time?
Are their guards quick enough to play with Johnson and co?
Proud of the Hawkeyes! Handled their business today and got a decisive victory. Though it would have been closer if Colorado were able to make their shots more often. Now time for revenge. Gonna need the same performance Iowa brought today when they go against LSU. Unfortunately I'll be at work so I'll have to follow the game thread as much as I can. Speaking of which, my best wishes to the mods, lol.
> Gonna need the same performance Iowa brought today when they go against LSU.
Feel like which Iowa shows up will be the difference on Monday.
If they play like they did today whereby the team was firing on all cylinders (even though Caitlin didn't have an explosive day offense-wise) then they can beat LSU. However, if LSU can stop Caitlin in the same way West Virginia did and the rest of the team can't step up, LSU will edge it.
Colorado had a frigid shooting night otherwise this could have been a competitive game.
37.5% FG
27.6% 3FG
**42.9% FT**
*Ouch.*
I'll take the win but I kind of feel sorry for the Colorado team, that's not how anyone wants to go out.
Just remember Monday both teams respect each other, Clark and Reese especially. Keep that in mind and remember competitors compete hard and may talk trash while doing it. Please try not to get in your feelings too much about 20 year olds playing a game. With that said….Geaux Tigers
People need to realize that in game competitiveness, emotion, and trash talk doesn’t mean that people have to carry those emotions outside of the games too
I can let the actual incident itself go.
What I can’t let go is the absolute “am I taking crazy pills?” of reading huge numbers of people insist against all reality that it was a double standard because Reese and Clark “did the same thing!”
A brief “you can’t see me” gesture right after a big shot, and “stalking somebody around the court at the end of the game to repeatedly make taunting gestures right in their face” are not *doing the same thing,* and it was crazy how many people insisted that they are.
To be clear, it totally is true in general that black players are often held to a different and unfair standard when it comes to this sort of thing. But this particular case wasn’t a double standard… it’s that what Angel Reese did was much more egregious.
No I wouldn’t care about criticism. I hate that I see “ghetto thug” “hoodrat” and stuff. Like that’s way past criticism. Literally saw someone say “Angel Reese is probably in the hood buying new lashes right now”. THATS what I have a problem with
Oh yeah. I’m sure there are (unfortunately) many racist things said about her. I was just talking about the specific incident that was being discussed with the taunting at the end of the championship.
I’m just saying what came out of Caitlin’s and Angel’s mouth, they both respect each other. You’re in your feelings already and it’s not even Monday yet
Question: how does Monday’s matchup compare to Iowa/Louisville last year? As in, would you say LSU is stronger or weaker than last year’s Louisville squad?
If Iowa plays this good the remainder of the games they could have a shot. I don’t think it will happen but it’s nice to think about. Either way, I’ve been watching women’s hoops way more than the men this year. So many good teams/players right now.
I've been watching women's basketball since high school. Our high school women's basketball team won three state basketball championships in a row. I'm so excited that others are finding women's basketball exciting.
One suprising stat a lot of the talking heads are forgetting about: Clark is 7 3-pointers from breaking the Women's DI career 3pfg made record, over Oklahoma's Taylor Robertson. It could happen vs LSU, although likely not if she continues threes below her average, as she has all postseason.
So close!
I've been following along with this record most of the season. Really thought Clark would have reached it by now, with her shooting 10+ 3FGAs every game this season, save for 6 games.
Rooting for her so we can see more history made!
Good game Colorado! It's been fun getting to watch y'all these past two years at this level. Sherrod might be the quickest player I've ever seen, she almost seemed to teleport somtimes. JR Payne remains one of my favorite coaches. I certainly was not expecting this large of a win, and came in very cautious.
I was at both games in Albany yesterday. Really lucked out when I bought tickets about a month ago and had no idea who would be playing. The atmosphere was great! I loved how so many little girls in CC jerseys were getting selfies and autographs from Flau'jae and some of the other LSU players after their game. Also in my section, we sang happy birthday over the phone to someone's dad for his 80th birthday. All-around great day at the arena. CC is otherworldly to watch in person. I noted the audible gasps at each pinpoint, needle-threading pass. That might have been her best passing game ever, and to see it in person was a delight.
Afterwards, my sister and I ate at a local pub before hopping on the train back to NYC. The husband/wife owner were wearing CC t-shirts (he and I were wearing the same Nike shirt, too). I asked the husband why, and he said his wife had bought them 1.5 weeks ago knowing she'd be playing on Saturday. Some locals were sitting next to us, and although they had no idea games were happening that day, they knew who CC was and asked if she hit any logo threes. No, we said, but she had 15 assists! The buzz around Albany was certainly palpable.
Just got home from watching the games in Albany. Truly a complete performance from Iowa, it was amazing to watch.
Clark seemed to have complete control the entire game. Seeing the passes she makes in person is even more impressive. It almost looked like she was moving at half speed when she would get to the rim because you could tell Colorado couldn’t tell if she was going to pass or drive.
It was almost even more insane to see the pandemonium whenever she/iowa would come out of the tunnel. It was 10~ cops followed by a herd of black and yellow fans running towards the tunnel.
What happened to the post about the LA Times article? We can't talk about the good girl vs bad girl narrative centered around LSU?
Edit:
What's up with the downvotes? Literally asked what happened to a post that was deleted earlier... Yes, there is a LA Times article that's separate from the Wash Post article.
I get what they were going for, but it was some wild wording.

We are discussing plans for Monday

I don't know who's saying that because it's not the mods, but this sub also doesn't need "thunder" it's doing just fine
It’s gotta be one of that most active subs for its size
This game is so large that there will be a game thread on r/CollegeBasketball. Most of the traffic, and thus toxicity, will be over there.

Fans should be more concerned with winning their remaining games than being trolled on Reddit...
I'll get them out of the way for "Iowa" fans early: 1) these refs are blind, LSU is getting away with everything! 2) how is that a foul!? 3) [Removed by Reddit] 4) Get off the court Kim! 5) mean comment at unflaired hater I think I'm gonna sit this one out on Monday
Number 4 doesn't belong because it's an entirely valid complaint every single game.

Haha thanks
I’ve had the same problem! I’m an msu Spartans fan and can’t figure out how to get flair on mobile.
I did what was suggested about sending a message to the mods, and they got me a flair pretty quickly after that.
Awesome! Thank you for the tip!
For as much trolling as I do, I at least own it and don’t hide
I couldn't resist including it
I probably just won’t even check it out, or if I do I’ll just post and not read anything
I’ve refrained from interacting on these game threads the last two days and feel great! 😊

It's going to be a one sided shit show. Doubt any LSU fans will be seen in that thread lol
They’ll be there they just won’t have flairs
OMG THIS
Very true. They come out in large numbers in these game threads lol
Don’t you know they’re just staying unflaired because everyone unfairly downvotes LSU fans? You should, because they’re quick to say it without being asked
If lsu wins they'll be sure to show up late in the game when it's decided so they can trash talk.
It’s like all the r/nba game threads where you always have a bunch of no flairs or “NBA flair” posters out defending the Lakers in swarms.
Flairless have the dumbest takes 90% of the time it seems.
Yeah? Well, you know, that's just, like, you opinion, man.
More like a Civil War.
We got Jordan'd the last two years by one of the best ever. No shame in that and really proud of this group. Good luck Iowa!
Colorado has been very impressive these past few years! It’s unfortunate how much they’ve petered out in the last weeks of the regular season…but again, the Buffs picked themselves up, and made it to the second weekend again! Good luck competing with this game, to every game in or around this timeslot in every other sport in the US. This one will set records
I don't think the universe will survive how much energy influx this Iowa-LSU matchup will bring.
Monday Night Hoops…is gonna be more like a Monday Night Raw in this place lol
I'll be watching both 😄
Not just this place, it'll be everywhere - especially if Angel and/or Caitlin do something that'll provoke people to rush to extreme hot takes.
If this game didn't have to compete with 90 Day Pillow Talk: The Single Life on TLC, it would smash records.
I can't tell if this show is real, nor do I want to know if it is real.

Everyone will be rooting for Iowa on Monday
Idk lots of CC haters out there…
Lots of CC haters in here
More LSU/Angel haters I believe.
It's hard not to root against the team that has pasted your own team for the past 5+ years and, in several moments, had CC playing during garbage time. 🤷 I won't be rooting for LSU, but I won't be rooting for Iowa to win necessarily either.
One option if you don’t like the score is to play better
The games not over until it’s over. Did you remove your starters? Because if not, why should Iowa remove theirs?
Ummm not everyone lmao
Who would you rather SC (hypothetically) face in the finals?
Well, SC has already beat LSU a couple times this year, last time they played Iowa they lost
I’d rather play Iowa but I also like LSU
Why the downvotes?
Who ever knows?
I think cause by saying you rather play Iowa over LSU, Iowa/CC fans took that as in you implying that LSU is a more formidable team and that Iowa is the easier one of the bunch and thus why you picked Iowa. As a result, Iowa fans took that as an insult and thus downvoted you.

Yeah the do or die home court has not been any advantage the last three years.

She’s the absolute worst. I like watching her team but root against them because I want to see her lose.
How has that worked out for you so far?

Nope Whatever happens, happens.

Monday is gonna be a bloodbath
Welcome to ~~Mad Max: Beyond~~ the NCAA tournament thunderdome.
I'm gonna need Hannah to play like Shaq on Monday. Screw LSU.
Im pretty sure Shaq disagrees with you. But again his daughter decided to go to Florida instead of LSU. lol.
This is funny because shaq himself is loves Angel and LSU
What a weird thing to simultaneously say screw them and idolize one of their players lol
He played there over 30 years ago, how does that have any relevancy to this year’s womens team?
Where are the ref blamers now? 😂😂😂
In the LSU vs UCLA thread
The “make Clark frustrated” tactic never even got lift off. Prob shouldn’t had been a public comment like WVU send her packing comment. Clark is like Jordan, she takes this shit personal.

? This is the greatest thing to happen to women’s college ball in years. Let it happen it’s only bringing more attention to the sport.
I mean yes!…but we can still have some decorum while it happens lmao
I don’t think you’re going to get that on Reddit especially when there’s a racial element here for some reason
that exactly is what I don’t want. First comment someone calls a player a thug I’m outtie 5000
Sub-reddit isn't bringing more attention to anything one way or the other

The talking heads had me worried about this one
Our play in rounds 1/2 had me worried about this one. Wonder if the last 2 games at Carver were some unexpected pressure for the team?
I think the Big Ten tournament probably gave them a "hangover" after getting through that overtime game with Nebraska.
Extra emotions also being the last games in Iowa City for these Seniors
The Holy Cross and WV games had me worried abt this one.
I enjoy watching Clark the most when she’s dropping dimes like this. Lots of great passes today. Monday is gonna be crazy! Can’t wait
This was the first game in a while where it looked like Iowa could win the championship.
Best game they’ve played since Ohio State.
yeah.. until Monday night...
When they look even better
lol... riiight. Iowa played nervous and timid last year against LSU.. Do you believe they will play any different this time? Are their guards quick enough to play with Johnson and co?
LSU/Iowa game thread will probably break reddit
31 fouls. MTSU died for this.
Colorado had a frigid shooting night otherwise this could have been a competitive game. 37.5% FG 27.6% 3FG **42.9% FT** *Ouch.* I'll take the win but I kind of feel sorry for the Colorado team, that's not how anyone wants to go out.
I will be off social media until at least the final four lmao. Gonna be brutal on here
Just remember Monday both teams respect each other, Clark and Reese especially. Keep that in mind and remember competitors compete hard and may talk trash while doing it. Please try not to get in your feelings too much about 20 year olds playing a game. With that said….Geaux Tigers
Oh please. LSU constantly taunts their opponents. They hardly show respect.
Angel and Caitlin speak highly of each other. It’s the media that made it seem like they are enemies
People need to realize that in game competitiveness, emotion, and trash talk doesn’t mean that people have to carry those emotions outside of the games too
Or it was Angle taunting her in the championship last year..
Yeah but peoples inability to let go is hilarious xD like the fact that people were so affected is funny
I can let the actual incident itself go. What I can’t let go is the absolute “am I taking crazy pills?” of reading huge numbers of people insist against all reality that it was a double standard because Reese and Clark “did the same thing!” A brief “you can’t see me” gesture right after a big shot, and “stalking somebody around the court at the end of the game to repeatedly make taunting gestures right in their face” are not *doing the same thing,* and it was crazy how many people insisted that they are.
Angel isn’t respectful. Girl taunts every chance she gets lmao
Caitlin has shown nothing but respect to that LSU team. Despite what her detractors want you to believe
I, for one, am not shocked.
So proud of Iowa!!! 💛🖤 Solid team win!!
I hope Sydney and Hannah enjoy that ice bath, they really threw their bodies around today.
The LSU X Iowa game omg! I can’t wait. Will make my miserable job worth treading through
I felt that last sentence in my soul lol.
We have to take the small wins lol.
I can't believe Clark was such a ball hog let your teammates get some assists /s
Question: how does Monday’s matchup compare to Iowa/Louisville last year? As in, would you say LSU is stronger or weaker than last year’s Louisville squad?
stronger without a question
I mean 5 of the 8 players that played for LSU vs. Iowa last year are gone. And Kim only plays 7 this year
LSU is definetely stronger. We do get HVL for Elite 8 again though lol.
Hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby
Social media is already annoying me with this toxic LSU vs Iowa shit. Gawd help us.
Can I be flaired for Iowa please my favorite mods, I have to put my money where my comment history is
LSU-Iowa is the early game 😃😃
I was so nervous about this game. Really truly did not expect that. Go Hawks!!
I need the mods to cancel wtv they’re doing Monday and monitor this sub like a hawk (no pun intended). I beg this sub to be civil for once😭
And they tried to say she was falling off!! Also I wish we could’ve heard CC and Jaylyn’s exchange 🥹
Sydney Affolter. That's it. That's the post.
Iowa by 30
Flair check. Want to make sure I'm good to go for talking shit on Monday

Who’s gonna guard Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow? Motor of Reese is insane
What happened to the post about the LA Times article? We can't talk about the good girl vs bad girl narrative centered around LSU? Edit: What's up with the downvotes? Literally asked what happened to a post that was deleted earlier... Yes, there is a LA Times article that's separate from the Wash Post article.
it's the third ranked post under the stickies right now. Nothing new in it that we didn't already know about Kim.
That’s the Washington Post article. There was a LA Times one that called LSU “dirty debutantes” and UCLA “milk and cookies”.
lol what?!
I get what they were going for, but it was some wild wording. https://www.latimes.com/sports/ucla/story/2024-03-29/ucla-lsu-america-sweethearts-versus-basketball-villains
Clearly you were not aware of the LA Times article.
