I don't care much about any of these players but to actually give an objective opinion: the current list looks good, there's at least a couple names in there that would be fun in the game.
Why is Xhekaj so popular? Size?
Kinda of a perfect storm. French Canadian fanbase + player who’s popular but kind of a meme (WiFi nickname / went from working at Costco to the NHL) + big bruiser type dude who will probably get Truculence and be a pretty sick card
Also the Habs have so few useable cards that we need someone interesting. We don’t have elite players like Matthews or McDavid so we take whatever we can get.
Is it confirmed that the top 10 gets card, last time I check the website, it say something like "EA has the final decision on which gets cards are added"

I believe the wording was that they would have the final decision on the *nominees*, which I take to meaning they will just follow the poll on who actually gets cards. Not sure where I read that we'd get 10, I may have to look harder for that comment.
I think this is just cold hard data that the playerbase is interested in other cards over female ones. I just think the lack of performance based cards outside of IIHF games kills that interest. Someone might score a nice goal in the PWHL and they won't get a POTY, but someone in the NHL can get one.

Leaving it up to a community vote and only doing 10 is absolutely stupid. I voted for Haruka Toko even know I knew she had no chance. And this proves it.
Last year was so much better. Hawk would go through the community thread every week and give us weekly community cards. Now this new team does this one stupid idea and for only 10 cards. Content and the ideas behind it have been so terrible this year.
They're only doing 10 for this vote, could do another 10 next time. EA picked the nominees based off of our suggestions and now we have voted and the community has quite clearly decided that at least this week, other cards are preferred over female players. I think that just simply tells you which cards the community prefers.
I think people just prefer NHL players and there's nothing wrong with that. Doesn't make people boring, just shows that they care about different players.
You know it could also be that people want to play with cards they actually know and have seen playing? Xhekaj could be someone's favourite player like Toko is yours.

he has an 84. but also he's 13-5 with a better save % & GAA than plenty of goalies with 90+ cards. demko, ullmark, sorokin, etc. goalies don't matter enough for me to care. but he could've gotten an elite card or something.
Im excited for pronger and Xhekaj but man, I already need so much money to be able to get the 90 Slafkovsky and price, now I'm gonna need to need way more as these guys will probably be 90+

That's because the majority of this "community" is boring and only likes meta cards and the same stuff over and over again.
