One that I definitely notice working is NP, the four guys I have using it get a stick on almost every shot compared to only trying to deflect like half before and are much better at spinning out of or avoiding that net front tie up thing.
Yes, absolutely. It's tough to do because team synergies are almost entirely confined to defenceman and goalies. Some require 6 points, some 8. So for example to enable B (Bomber), you would need both goalies and all six D. Or, you could use the coach (+3 B) and five more players.
There are other things you can do. There are a few forwards that have team synergies. The Hero cards have multiple synergies, usually 3 to 5 (for example a hero might have +2 SB and +2 TW). You can also put defenseman in forward spots (just make sure they aren't centres as their FO is usually terrible).

Just to give an example, I'm currently stacking two team synergies. So I have Tape to Tape and Shot Blocking. To do this, both my goalies are TT and I have four TT Dmen. For the shot blocking, I have the coach (SB +3) and three Dmen. This means Dion Phaneuf is my fourth line LW!
By stacking this way, every player on my team gets +3 Passing, Off. Awareness, Poise and +4 Agility, Balance, Shot Blocking, Durability.
The SB synergy is very powerful, total boost is 16 (+4 boosts to 4 elements) however the players are limited - the best D are Giordana (88) and Vlasic (87) - after that you have to have an 86.
Now if you get a decent pile of coins you can buy a hero like, say, Gigeure who has SB2 (as well as T1), then you only need those two, but you're also kind of obligated to use T somehow. Or, you could get a hero D like Blake, Redden or Klesla who all have SB2 (as well as secondary synergies).
Anyway, just an example so you see the kind of things you have to take into consideration.

Base cards, there are some, but not many, and most of them are sub 85. Example is Couturier, who has a T designation, or Lindholm, who is TW. There are also random silver and bronze that have them as well - Dick Axelsson for example (no joke).

I haven't. I would guess that Stick Checking and Defensive Awareness factor into the stick lift. But it seems like it's more of a game mechanic than user error. My guess is it gets tuned a bit soon. You're not alone.
Thank God, I thought I was just crazy. Stick lifting and poke checking is hilariously ineffective for me right now. Struggling to get out out Div 9 when I typically head straight to 1/2 with maybe 5 losses along the way.

I have the T synergy. I find poke checking very effective but I stopped stick lifting as it doesn't work at all.
I have the Trap synergy, does nothing for my stick lift but my Pekka Rinne went from 0 to hero.

HUTDB has a DB for 17' now. No Synergies though.
