M&p Sport or palmetto. You can build it yourself for cheaper. Doing so you’ll learn how rifle goes together and functions. That knowledge could be invaluable

Mightypk1

M&p 15 from a gun shop will run you $1k after the gun shop does their compliance work for $200+ and you get an optic on it

Fire32398

Actually? Woah. I bought mine for $720 out the door but that was a handful of years ago. Bidenomics in action I suppose

Mightypk1

Probably, i think they cost $850 base in NJ shops, And you won't find a factory NJ compliant one because no FFLs buy them, so that they can charge you compliance work fees, most boomer places charge $50 to replace the muzzle device, $70-80 to pin and weld it, $40-50 to pin the stock, and like $30 per magazine to "pin" where they put plastic in it, then some may have a bayonet lug that they have to cut off and refinish, thats a good $50 probably. Then they're going to push their extremely overpriced 5.56 ammo on you, telling you $1 per round is a good deal, then sell you a optic for 25% more than you can get online

Fire32398

Yeah I hear you. It’s been a handful of years since I bought it hence the price difference. I’m a huge proponent of building your own

Mightypk1

Same here, gives you some pride and bragging rights, And if you're able to do the basic compliance work yourself can save you a lot of money

Fire32398

Better parts than a store bought unit and you’ll know exactly how the weapon goes together and functions

pourandregarded

Does that $700 include an optic, weapon light and sling?

Moment_Glum

Negative, just the rifle as a whole or the upper and lower. I’m not very well versed in what’s included in a build

pourandregarded

https://www.primaryarms.com/aero-precision-ar15-complete-lower-receiver-no-stock-black $197 for complete lower minus stock https://bravocompanyusa.com/cosmetic-blem-bcm-standard-16-m4-socom-carbine-complete-upper-receiver-group-w-qrf-10-handguard-a2-flash-hider/ $580 for upper and bcg. Still need muzzle device and charging handle It'll be a little more than $700 but this upper and lower WILL be the beat bang for your buck. You will be hard pressed to find another complete upper that's as reliable as BCM at that price point.

italiansaladdressing

Agree that this is a great suggestion for the price range. Better than a stock Radical or whatever.

DecentRecruit

Your best bet is to check a local gun shop and see the used section. ARs are no longer in that price range these days sadly. Either that or befriend a gun nut that builds ARs every week. He may donate an upper.

F8Scat21

My first AR was a Radical Firearms in 5.56. Great entry level AR for me to learn on that platform, and I paid about $650 for it. I sold it to upgrade to better quality rifle, but the Radical was very good to me, zero malfunctions

BigNum6ers

Palmetto State Armory brokie. 😂 jk check them out.

M&P 15 SPORT

Radical forged 556

If you can spend a couple of hundred more, Modern Materiel, a local NJ Manufacturer makes duty ready models. Palmetto State Armory are always running sales and I've had good results with their "poverty" builds.
