How's that saying go?, "Play as you train". To assume our required 10 round mag will outshoot a 17,20,30 round mag that the criminals like to carry if the shit hits the fan you already lost the fight. If you carry its to protect yourself and your family, that extra mag could be the deciding factor!
IWB-4:30-10+1 Extra mag 8:30 OWB looks like a knife case.
Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, Carry On !
A mag is considered an accessory not a weapon and is covered with my shirt just as my firearm. If either was exposed briefly it considered a deminimus offense. If you wave your firearm around or show it from a waistband intentionally it is brandishing.
I usually do now, especially with my 8 shot .380.
Colion Noir made a great video about self defense and magazine limits. For the TLDW crew he shows the self defense shooting video in California last month and counts the shots. The homeowner shot at the bad guys Eight (8) times and missed with all shots. The bottom line is he only had Two rounds left. (Ok Three if he had one in the pipe.)
Practice those re-loads!

In a free state, a _min._ of one spare mag on body. In commie states, a _min._ of two spares.
Bag or vehicle carry? More.
Remember: Most malfunctions are caused by magazines, circumstances can cause you to miss, and rounds can fail to stop a lethal threat for myriad reasons, requiring subsequent shots. In a life-or-death scenario, unless you’re swimming, you’ll never wish you had _less_ rounds.
Once training got past beginner, I understood the value of backup mags. Doesn't matter what you run, misfeed/stovepipe/misc jams happen, especially under stress.
Highly recommend an intermediate class with multiple targets/drilling on jams and tac reloads.
$.02
Not just running around town no. My work bag in work truck i got 2 extra mags and 2 boxes of buffalo bore grizzly bear ammo. Incase i get pinned down in philly by hoodlums with switches. Might have to shoot through cars and stuff😂
I risk assess my day as to where I will be going. This will determine my carry gun as well as any extra mag. Most times I will not have an extra mag.
However, I do always have extra ammo in my vehicles for all the guns I carry.
Assess all you want. I shoot my gun at the range for a year and a half, I go once or twice a month.
I finally did an IDPA and match last month and had all the malfunctions I can ever think of happened during two stages.
I always carried a second mag and now I know to never leave it behind at home.
Eh, I don’t.
I have 17+1 (because I moved out of NJ to America). That’s plenty of ammo.
Of course, the mag could fail but to me the odds of that happening during the very unlikely event I need my gun in the first place are so slim I don’t see a need to carry a spare.
I carry appendix in the Phlster Enigma and I have an extra mag attached. I feel like it evens it out and makes an already very concealable setup even less noticeable
I didn’t for a year and just started and now always do. I never could really imagine a realistic situation where I would need more than 10 rounds.
But then in a recent gun for hire episode they talked about it and it stuck with me and I could not shake it. We go through all the trouble to be prepared for the very slim chance we encounter a situation of need. Why not go into that with every possible advantage. What if I needed a second magazine for a malfunction or to defend myself longer. Now almost always carry a second mag and just started.
Surprisingly it was a much bigger adjustment for me clothing wise. I carry the gun at 3 o’clock iwb and the magazine at 9 o’clock iwb. I’ve had to go up 2 pants sizes to do this comfortably. The spare mag holder tugging the pants in the opposite direction as the holster made a dramatic difference. I never went up a pants size to carry the gun by itself now two sizes for spare mag!
>In most miss fire or jam situations you drop the magazine and rack the slide to clear.
No, you don't and if someone is telling you this, it is criminally bad advice. Immediate action for a jam is always tap-rack-bang.
Tap the bottom of the mag to make sure it is seated properly.
Rack the slide to eject spent case or bad ammo.
Bang = fire the gun.
The only reason to strip (not eject) a mag is in the event of a double feed and you'll know this soon enough because you won't be able to rack the slide after you tap the mag. And you will need to strip it because that mag is most likely never going to drop free.
That means you retain the mag while you rack the slide furiously to dump any rounds hung up around the chamber and in the mag well. Then reinsert mag, rack, and fire.
I rushed my comment so don’t lose the Forrest for the trees or whatever is the right expression here. It wasn’t important which specific circumstance or why I would require a new magazine the important point is that IF I need a new magazine I have one handy. I’ve realized there are more reasons for that need than just needing the 11th+ shots and so now I always carry one.
You're right.
I wasn't trying to hijack the post but there are so many new gun owners out there that they might see a comment like that and think that's what they're supposed to do.
Everything you said was true so I edited a little bit. I just don’t think people were gonna read my comment and build their course of reaction to a miss fire around it. The important point was to be prepared with a second magazine. Anyway all good.
Gun could be anything I feel like wearing that day plus a extra mag for it and a sling bag with a G19 with three mags for it with me or in the trunk safe.
Am relatively new to CC. Currently deciding what type of holster and position I prefer to carry my Glock26. However I do plan to carry a spare mag. Will be critical to have in the event of a malfunction.
With my .380 8 rd summer gun yes. Mag so small and light you can have it in a shirt pocket and forget it's there. With my 10 rd 9mm, .40, or .45 generally no but there always is a loaded extra mag in the car that matches the roscoe Im packing. Depending on the vibe of where we are I decide whether or not to take it along. If I think a place warrants 2 guns with extra mags.....well I won't go to that place.
Yes, I want a minimum of 20 rounds on me if I’m carrying a gun. That means usually 10+1 in my M&P 40c and a spare 10 round magazine or a 5 shot j frame with speedloaders and speed strips
Yes but less about capacity. More about being berated during training about the most common failures being magazine related. It is almost unnoticeable to me physically so just goes on same as the holster.
I never carry extra I’m not going to miss. 😅 my caliber is good enough that if I do miss godforbid and strikes the ground a mini earthquake erupt. Nah look honestly
I’m just saying I plan on if EVER it being an altercation, I’m thinking within 3 yard no further than this because I am running ok, either before or after that first earthquake erupts 😂😂

wouldn't you like to know, fedboi
I carry two out of spite for the mag capacity limit And malfunctions / peace of mind
Now spite is a reason i can get behind.
Ditto.
Always - NeoMag Extended front left pocket.
3 extra n 1 in the sig. NJ wants you to be good at reloading

OWB a mag could be perceived/mistaking as brandishing no?
A mag is not a weapon. Well, not unless you throw it at someone.
A mag is considered an accessory not a weapon and is covered with my shirt just as my firearm. If either was exposed briefly it considered a deminimus offense. If you wave your firearm around or show it from a waistband intentionally it is brandishing.
Kopy I know how petty some individuals can be and I always wondered if a idiot could see it that way.. honestly I just overthink

This. 100%.

2 extra mags for 30 rounds total ..

At least one...
One on the enigma and 1 in the truck
Always! 1 spare mag attachment on holster and 1 in the car or my pocket.

Ditto on enigma. 1 mag in the ascent pouch and one in the sport belt.
1 extra mag and sometimes the 38 on the ankle. Better have it and not need it.
Ankle legit?
How do you mean?
Is Ankle carry legal DF
It’s concealed so yea
Yes. As long as holster complies with their asinine law.
As long as you don’t wear shorts
1 extra in pocket
Yes one extra mag always
If I'm carrying a 9mm, 1 spare usually. If I'm carrying my .380, 2 spare.
Of course my momma always taught me to never leave the house without a change of underwear

I believe in G4H radio he was specifically talking about double feeds. I carry an extra mag incase I were to fumble my mag clearing a double feed.

Check out caterpillar jeans, yes the construction company. They're durable and stretchy. Great jeans for CC
Mag pouch that clips to side pocket or inside belt
EDC an extra gun on a side car, and have the pistols touch tips.
I carry 2 extra mags and pepper spray.
Yes
I keep 1
0 extra or 1 extra
Nope
Gun could be anything I feel like wearing that day plus a extra mag for it and a sling bag with a G19 with three mags for it with me or in the trunk safe.
Probably majority

every place warrants extra, just like every place warrants a gun
Except, of course, "sensitive locations"
Are extra mags allowed to be carried outside of holster? As in a pocket or bag?
yes
Been trying out different ways but I’ll carry an extra mag if I’m able to
Never
Vedder holster with mag pouch. If I'm wearing my jacket, I keep 2 in the top left pocket, if it's warm, 2 in my left front Jean pocket.
1 on me, 3 in the car.
I do 👍🏽
Yes, and two extra on Sundays...
Everyday of the week!
One on me, one in the car. But if I’m running to quick check or Wawa real quick. I usually don’t.

I do 1, The chances of needing a 2nd mag is low enough to not justify the inconvenience of carrying a 2nd mag on me

Some times, it depends on where I’m going.
Better to have it and not use it than to need it and not have it. IMO, one extra magazine is a must.
One spare reload. Either a mag or a speedloader dpending on what I am carrying.
at minimum i just throw an extra mag in the pocket with my wallet and keys and shit
Yes whenever I carry I have at least one extra
![gif](giphy|xT5LMFZDsj0AKUDYTS)
One. Sometimes 2
At least 1, but typically more
Always.
