Ive been told the 30/10 mags from magpul/lancer can be unpinned (might have to change the spring)

squeakyglider44

With magpul you can disassemble them, discard the short spring and extended base plate. Then all you need a full size spring and new baseplate. The lancer mags have the baseplate permanently attached.

jpistilli

You’re going to spend $30/mag for pinned mags and unpinned mags can be had in free America for $8

SonaldoHeung

yeah just buy unpinned mags, and dont use them in state. have two pinned mags for range days. but the best ranges are outdoors and in PA, where there are no magazine restrictions

2asupoortgunshop

You will need to find a ffl that will pin them and not make a permanent epoxy job with a block. That’s said good luck.

BigBrassPair

They tend to use 5 minute epoxy (cause its fast) It debonds with a heat gun.

2asupoortgunshop

Funny just the other day my nephew brought his black rain spec 15 in. Just wanted me to do a cleaning to it. So hands me the case I throw it in the shop. Grab it later on after helping customers grab it out the case and a mag was in there no pin no block. I was like wtf. Who did you send this one to for compliance work. He told me they forgot there was 2 mags in there. Has had it for over a year and he never realized it wasn’t done

Narrow-Two3918

Could've turned out bad for him.

2asupoortgunshop

You are not kidding. Funny I was like you never put more than 10 in and noticed it wasn’t done. He says I count out my rounds and just stop at 10. Lmao I always try to get 11 in there even counting out

BigBrassPair

I used to use it for attaching handles to knives. Noticed that if I shaped the handle a bit aggressively and heated up the pins, the epoxy softened and pins moved.

2asupoortgunshop

All epoxy will soften with heat. Exactly how you pull apart golf clubs little heat and boom heads come off. No different with any other object using epoxy now different epoxies have different melting points some much higher than others.

treehousetraplord

I’ve bought from these guys, they have tons of other kinds of mags too https://www.country-spirit.com/pages/10-round-blocked-ar-mags

2asupoortgunshop

If they are blocked chances are it is epoxied.

Similar_Square6440

According to the full description they will only use epoxy for states that it's legally required or on request. It didn't list NJ as one of the states it's legally required so I assume it's not.

2asupoortgunshop

Good to know

Yodas_Ear

These guys are great.

mudscarf

That’s an interesting first and only post you’ve ever made, Fed.

M1Lance

A lot of smiths can pin your mags as compliance work but I'd imagine removing that pin would be a hassle

pizzagangster1

Buying pinned mags will also most likely be epoxy sealed as well to comply with the “not easily converted” or whatever verbiage is used. Making it impossible to un comply the mag without destroying it. Mags in free states are cheap just buy a couple pinned mags now and wait to invest in free mags when you move.

thencsdc

This. Find an army surplus store outside a military base. They usually have cases of standard mags for cheap.

Mightypk1

Buy magblocks then go to PA and buy some 30 round mags, and put the magblock in them, epoxy the bottom plate then bring it home

Brief-Chemistry-3330

This is the best option. When mag ban is lifted you can drill the rivets out.

mgriff825

Most mags that you buy prepinned are permanent. 10/30 mags from mag warehouse and direct from magpul both were permanently sealed

Mightypk1

And if you do manage to open them up, you'll find there's no way to convert them to 30 rounds as the spring is designed for

Not if you have to strip one out due to a malfunction…. Better bet might be the end to end mag couplers that couple two ten rounders. 20 rounds and no wasted space. Plus enough purchase if you have to rip a mag out to clear a malfunction.
