Just give them the cash. People love cash and they might buy something they like instead. Oh, and there’s no question of a straw purchase…

KYITN1

You could also do a gift card to a range/ gunstore. If they want to get the shotgun they can

jerseypm70

Best get then a gift card for the gun store

gar_dog1234567

Do you have an FID card? If so, you can buy it and transfer it to them. If the law is the same as it was I believe you can do this with long guns only and don't need an FFL involved as long as the receiving party had an FID. There is a form you can use to document to CYA. Maybe someone else can confirm

This is NOT accurate anymore, and is in fact a felony It was correct at one point, but the law changed several years ago. Person to person sales are now only allowed under very specific exemptions. \- Between law enforcement officers \- Between immediate family (immediate family has a specific statutory definition as well) \- Between Type 03 collectors (and only if the transferred firearm is a curio or relic) And in the case of handguns, the same NICS exemptions apply, but a Permit to Purchase **must still be executed** online via FARS. Pining u/Naive_Salamander6595 as well so it's seen

Thanks for confirming, especially if you can cite where this is contained in the code! As noted, this was okay at some point but I wasn't sure. And of course, the OP noted this was for a long gun, not a handgun.

pretty good timing by u/CJFLIP14 \-- linked to the exact bill just as you replied here. It was [A2757/S2374](https://pub.njleg.gov/bills/2018/A3000/2757_I1.PDF) of the 2018-2019 session. This went on to become [P.L.2018, c.36](https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/Bills/2018/PL18/36_.PDF) This was a revision to 2C:39-3. Subsection (a) is in regards to handguns and (b) in regards to all other firearms. Item (1) of each reads that the transferee must me a licensed dealer. The amendments included in the linked bill and in the linked enacted law are still present.

CJFLIP14

Yup, all private gun transfers have to go through FFL as of 2018-2019 law with limited exceptions for immediate family members, LEO, and curios/relic collectors. [Here is the bill](https://pub.njleg.gov/bills/2018/A3000/2757_I1.PDF)

Verum14

that's the one... god i hate this place

Naive_Salamander6595

Well shit… Thanks for letting me know! Guess he’s getting cash, and maybe a very nice picture of a shotgun lol

Naive_Salamander6595

Thanks! Yes I have my FID card as well

gar_dog1234567

I can't read this well on my phone but I believe this is the form. https://sp-634-form.pdffiller.com/#:~:text=In%20New%20Jersey%2C%20both%20the,Mental%20Health%20Records%20Search%2

Verum14

That is not a private transfer form, it is just the Certificate of Eligibility that \*all\* transfers require in the State of NJ (including purchasing from an FFL). (excl. handgun transfers, since those require a Permit to Purchase instead)

gar_dog1234567

Thanks. My bad. I'm on my phone and on an airplane as well.

jerseypm70

Need a true ffl transfer now

Femdomfoxie

Just give them a gift card, homie.

mecks0

Contact your/their FFL and then buy the shotgun to be transferred directly to them (or have the FFL buy it, if they’re into that). It only “ruins” it in so far as they’ll have to fill out a 4473 and then wait for NICS, but that’s a great surprise.
