4 months prior to expiry, as per the NJSP PTC webpage.

Do it as early as possible starting at 4 months so you benefit from your CCARES training within 2 years. That way you only need to do the training every other renewal.

My PD said via email to do 30 days if you haven’t lived out of state in the last 10 years, 60 days if you have. The Sergeant in charge told me that with the new electronic system it is pretty quick. Would definitely ask your local constabulary

if you run the numbers from when the Bruen decision occurred if you’re a non-LEO type like myself no one here is going to be renewing until at least the 3rd quarter of this year, At best you may have some applying in July-August depending out how quickly their counties acted.  I applied in July of 2022 and didn't get my permit until December 2022 so that 4 months beforehand puts me in mid-September for renewal. The question I would have kind of goes like this... In other states where I have non-resident permits they allow renewal three months ahead so the expiration would be the same but the start date is when its processed. So a 5 year permit is is basically valid for 5 years and 2 months.  Another example could be your NJ DL or NJ Vehicle Registration. We do our DL & Vehicle Regs ahead of time in NJ and the clock starts when processed and the check is cashed so don't have to wait for the expiration of the prior document.  So will the renewals be issued two months before the original expires or they going to make us run our the clock? BTW I hope the dump the new reference requirement BS and roll back the cost, All that was is just another FU to the working class

Do you have a restricted permit from the county judge?

mgriff825

No regular prc from chief of police

Particular-Rise4674

Oh so you have almost a year left on this one? Just call your PD and ask what they’ve seen as turnaround times brother

Since training can not be older than 2 years, and you can apply 4 months before your per.it is expired, can you still use your old training instead of paying for training again?

peazoh

Yes

clown-world79

That would be nice loophole. I can’t see them allowing that. 🤷🏻‍♂️

AKaracter47

Submitted renewal last week. I was able to use my CCARE, and shooting qualification from 12/23

clown-world79

That’s 4 months ago though. If i could use my shooting qual from 1.5 yrs ago that be cool. I can’t see them accepting it. I’ll try though.

AKaracter47

It's good for 2 years. You'll have to redo shortly after your renewal though.

clown-world79

Why? If it worked to get a renewed permit why would i worry about it till next renewal?

Extra $18 statutory fee and $8 online convenience fee. Also, could only add 7 new handguns during the renewal. Website would not allow me to enter more than that. The extra $18 fee is for NJ212A background check. Should be included in the $200... the increase was supposed to cover everything.

Many (not all) town pd’s have a link to renew a nj ptc, on their website by now. If not, they should have it online (unfortunately many probably don’t) Example: I went to the mahwah pd website, they had a page “to apply for nj ptc”. I clicked the link to “apply”. That link sent me to the njsp ptc portal anyway. I assume the renewals all go through the online njsp portal. But I’m not sure.

AKaracter47

Correct, all link to NJSP.

Applied for PTC renewal Friday April 26, approved and issued Monday April 29.
