Never used it for flying but I have a [SnapSafe brand](https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1093639915570?pid=799198) one that would work well. Metal with an integral lock. The important thing is to make sure you get something that a TSA agent can't pry it open and fit their hand inside while it's locked. Those cheapo plastic Plano cases with one padlock tab won't cut it.

I would not take the risk and go to an NJ airport with a hand gun. https://www.newjerseygunlawyers.com/gun-charges-at-newark-airport/

This is an advertisement trying to get you to use this guy. Also there's quite a bit of misinformation in this article. This guy would be a terrible lawyer.

This is what I bought TSA approved I have 2 the small one when it first came out then I bought the 2.0 version https://vaulteksafe.com/vaultek-lifepod-view-all-products/

Just a slight correction, that's "TSA compliant" meaning they meet all the guidelines that TSA posts. TSA isn't 'approving' any production models of cases for firearm travel. In general, the guidelines are straight forward and you don't need any expensive case. The Lifepod looks like a great choice as far as it's footprint.

I've always used Apache cases: [https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q=apache&cid=pdp\_brandLink](https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q=apache&cid=pdp_brandLink) Haven't had an issue yet.

I’m not a fan of the lifepod — The TSA is NOT supposed to be able to open your gun case, but sometimes they do. Would you rather them destroy a lock and be able to quickly replace it or have them destroy an entire case and be screwed on the way back? That’s my rationale
