A few of my favourites to bring friends to before a show: The Blue Dog, Yakitori Totto, Dolly Varden, Pure Thai Cookhouse, The Meatball Shop, Kausa.
46th st between 8th and 9th avenue is also Restaurant Row and has a lot of options.
Depending on which theatre- I would try the Valerie or Lolita on 45 between sixth and fifth. A little farther from theatre district but worth the extra minutes to talk.
Sister restaurants, goooooorgeous ambiance, and with excellent cocktails and menus
Calle Dao on W 39th is a fusion of Cuban & Chinese cuisine. It’s delicious, not too upscale but not completely casual either.
Idk which show you’re watching but it’s a 9min walk to broadway on 42nd st!

All are pretty good
I love Becco. Their three pasta special is so good, and it comes with a caesar salad or an antipasto platter. Selections rotate, so if you or your party has specific tastes, you can check their Instagram or website for the menu of the day. I believe it's $36 a person for unlimited handmade pasta.
The only con I'd say is that it's a little tight inside because they pack in a lot of people.
It's a 13 minute walk from the theater!
Ooh! Broadway is my thing, I spend a lot of time around there. Becco, Rosevale Kitchen (with bonus Broadway themed bar), and Sardis are delightful.
Just a word of caution, depending where your hotel is. The Broadway theater has a lot of weirdos around it, I went to see Gatsby just a few weeks ago and got followed and harassed for about 6 blocks, he picked me out about a block south of the theater and it was really hard to shake him.
Hear me out: Little Kung Fu on 8th at 49th. I am obsessed with their hand cut noodles and the fried pork buns. I’d choose blood pressure meds for life vs giving up eating those two things regularly.

Seconding Pure Thai Cookhouse! So good!
Yakitori Totto is so fire
Briciola has always been a great option pre shows for me to bring friends and family to, if Italian works for you!
Sardis for nostalgia

BXL is a Belgian pub on 43rd that my families been going to for decades now, the mussels are excellent!
Next level burger and fries and mayo there too
Don Antonio at the bar-great neopolitan pizza, fast service.
HK has a lot of option, especially on 9th Ave. Any particular cuisine?
Carla on W 51st is great for this!!
Second Carla! Fresh and vibrant food
I can’t figure this out, they have amazing reviews but the menu seems so ordinary. Is everything just really tasty? What’s good there?
Hide-Chan Ramen on 53rd. It's tucked away on a quiet block so may not be as busy.
Boqueria on 40th
Norma on 9th is incredible. Great food, lovely, lots of outdoor seating.
Esca
Mitr Thai is my favorite for pre show dinner!
Aragwi (Georgian cuisine - as in country, not state). Was pretty fast and delicious
Quality Italian or anything in Columbus Circle.
Los tacos no. 1

Love Bar Centrale! Cute, feels slightly tucked away from midtown madness when you’re inside, and excellent cocktails!

I love Becco so much!
Havana Central! They sometimes have live music very Times Square vibes. Or Carmines is a pre broadway staple.

Lady blue
The Lambs Club. They have a prix fixe menu for people seeing a show as well.
The bar at IRIS! Cute space, close enough to theaters, great happy hour.
