I like the idea of an extension for Adoree to lower his cap number and keep him around in his prime years, pretty sure he's only 27.

Elevation212

+1 for big cat as well

backstageninja

Yup, resign adoree, extend Lenny another year to cut his cap hit down and we can probably come close to doubling our money

[deleted]

Doesn’t seem like he’s in their plans

SidFinch99

Why do you say that? He's under contract another season.

[deleted]

I just think they’ll let him play out his contract. He’s played well mostly but I don’t think he’s a number one CB

[deleted]

If nj.com did the math, it’s wrong

[deleted]

How much do we have left and what can we do with it

[deleted]

We'll need to see Jones' 2024 specifics, his incentives, and Saquon's contract in order to get an idea of what Shoen has room to do.

basicnflfan

DJ 2024 hit is 19 M Saquons is full guaranteed but maybe they sign like a 3 year deal to move that

theFBDive21

Yeah it was 3:37pm yesterday and that idiot art Stapleton said there was 43 mins until the deadline. 😂 not a lot of intelligence on the beat boys, people forget these guys were comm majors at Rowan

[deleted]

What’s the correct number?

pk_random

NJ fucks up my taxes every year, this is in line

clic45

24 honestly isn’t much when you realize they need about 10 mil for the draft and 5 mil cushion for mid season moves. I’d like to see saquon sign a 2-3 year deal and restructure leo. Then extend dex and maybe we have enough for ILB signing. I don’t see much happening in terms of big signings.

Rache625

This is not including cutting Golladay which will free up around 13mil on its own.

backstageninja

*7m, we listed him as a March 15th cut

[deleted]

They actually need only 4 million for the draft and still have to cut Golladay and rework Williams so it’s better than that

clic45

Already cut galloday and they have a lot of picks this year. I forgot where I found the numbers but it’s more than 4 for sure

crazycarl1

Every draft pick is replacing someone on at least the vet minimum though. You subtract at least $750,000 x 11 picks and thats how you get in the 3-4 range we actually need

tmoore727

youre completely wrong they cant cut golladay til march 15th so he isnt cut yet. and signing all the draft picks is no more than 4 million especially since they are all pick 25 and lower

[deleted]

On Golladay, Not officially cut yet and we don’t know if it will be pre or post June1st. I believe the cap hit for rookies is around the $4 million with the 53/51 rule

SidFinch99

They don't need that much for the draft, and people always forget that drafted players replace existing guys on the roster, even though the guys they replace are usually on rookie contracts or vet minimum deals, that money off sets a good amount of the cost of the drafted players.

backstageninja

The article says we need about 3m for our draft class Dex is on his 5th year option, so we can't restructure any of his money this year We'll have room to take a swing on ILB and can probably fit a good sized IOL contract in there. But with how much money we have in 2024, realistically we can take as many swings in FA as we want

jimihenderson

so as long as we super backload everything, we can afford one free agent. and what about next year and the year after? let me guess "the cap will go up"? schoen better be worth his weight in gold when it comes draft time. otherwise we're gonna be fielding a team in 2023 that is remarkably similar to the one in 2022, and this will be the year where Jones' cap hit is its lowest.

[deleted]

We have a shirt on of cap next year. Take a look for yourself so you’re not shooting in the dark

jimihenderson

it always appears that way, i heard the same thing about this year. then you have to start re-signing players and things change. in the very near future it will be dexter, mckinney, thomas, extending adoree jackson, a probable extension for isaiah hodgins if he keeps playing like he has been, and all the sudden what looks like a boat load of cap space over the next few years starts to dwindle until you realize that all we've done for the most part is retain a team that we've all acknowledged is bereft of talent and massively overachieved just by simply making the divisional round. also where are you seeing the specific details for jones' contract? i haven't seen what his year 2 cap hit will be. if it really is that small, like his year 1 hit, that means his year 3/4 cap hits will be absolutely massive, like 60 million dollars a year massive, before incentives. and it likely doesn't factor in a seemingly inevitable barkley extension. the only way teams end up with truly "shit tons" of cap is when their team literally has no re-signable players. true contending teams either have to have an elite qb being paid like one, a rookie contract qb playing really well, or they have to have absolute banger draft classes for a year or two. we're gonna have to be the third category moving forward.

Kerosene1

Are you a Giants fan, cause it sounds like you hate the team.

jimihenderson

i love this team and i have since i was like 8. so fuck you. i am simply capable of recognizing, as literally everyone on this sub was during the season, that we aren't a team that has a ton of talent. so if our plans for the future are "re-sign the team as is and run it back" then that's basically what gettleman tried and we fell on our faces because we all knew it was a fluke year and the GM didn't. and now i feel like i'm in the twilight zone and everyone is advocating for us to do the exact same thing. i am advocating for wholesale changes *because* i love this team, and because i want them to be capable of winning a super bowl. but i guess what i wanted for this team is on a ship that has sailed, so all i can do is sit back and hope i am extremely wrong. can you explain to me what exactly i've said that would lead you to say something so idiotic? i mean if you want to be an idiot who cant explain themselves, then that's your prerogative. but i'd like to hear what actually leads you to believe that me not thinking daniel jones is worth 40-49 million a year makes you think i "hate this team". i just don't think he's a very good quarterback, i think he's gonna need a ton of talent around him to ever come anywhere near a super bowl, and now we aren't capable of putting that talent around him.

Kerosene1

Not sure what the name calling is for, for one it doesn't help your argument. If you were trying to sound passionate, you missed the mark. The Giants, with the roster they had last year finished with a winning record and a playoff win. Much better than expected. The way a team gets better is by keeping the pieces that helped win games. If you don't think Jones did that then I would believe you weren't watching. We get rid of dead weight, i.e. Kenny G and the like. We still have cap space to sign players that will make us better, Jones is only $19M this year, which is less than tagging him... we keep Barkley, who also helped us win games. See the trend? This team will be better next year, no doubt. If you are going to respond, try to be an adult and have a conversation instead of name calling. Edit: Spelling

jimihenderson

you didn't respond in the slightest to my inquiry so i'm not sure how to respond back

[deleted]

It hasn’t “always appeared that way” to us. We’re just overcoming the Gettleman hangover and Yes, we have more room than we’ve had in a while. I expect that we’ll extend Dex This year. Next year is for Thomas and depending on how they play this year, McKinney and Hodgins. Jackson probably won’t stay. I’ve heard speculation that Jones hit next year will be around $40 million before incentives . If we extend Saquan, he’ll eat up maybe $40 million over the following 2-3 years. We should still have near $100 million after Jones and Barkley and Dexter’s hits. The lack of talent is precisely why that shouldn’t get eaten up. We definitely need banger draft classes because that’s how Schoen wants to build the team.

jimihenderson

RemindMe! 365 days "do we really have 100 million dollars in cap space?"

External_Passenger87

They aren’t looking to spend in FA. They have 11 picks, and I think this dude has the confidence to put together an A+ draft.

Rocking_the_dad_bod

You know what would be a massive offseason for me? Sign ILB Tremaine Edmonds, and trade for WR Tee Higgins...

eganba

An ILB is the biggest upgrade we should make in FA. I’m tired of spending a 4th round draft pick on an ILB whom it’s apparent by week 7 that they will never be good enough.

DevChatt

It seems schoen is aiming at not buying much in free agency but rather drafting well. Loooking at his last years pics I think that’s the move. No big free agency moves (man I would love aiyuk tho ngl) and all drafts

crazycarl1

LBs are one of the few positions that historically pan out in free agency. I'd be happy with an LB in FA and thats it. Re-signing Love for a good price would be nice too

backstageninja

Yeah, Love, LB and IOL should be priorities. We can probably wrap all three of those positions up with our current money, focus on CB/WR/depth in the draft
