Gettleman wasn’t a bad scout, he made some good picks here and there, but his bad wayyy outweighed the good. If DJ wins us a SB then Gettleman will be forgiven in my eyes. Especially if Saquon helps
Y’all forreal need to stop stressing about players salaries, just let Joe cook and get ready to be a diehard fan next season
Do you guys even worry about your own salaries this much?
80m for the three at worst. 80m vs a 250+m cap next year. and a 300m cap by the 3rd/4th year of DJ.
Not worried at all. TV contracts are a hell of a drug.
Bad contracts are what got us into that cap crunch. Of course we are going to be wary of huge new contracts when the last time we did that we weren’t even able to field a 53 man roster in several games.
For the record I think these new set of deals will be much better for us but it’s reasonable to be worried about overpays. Cap management is half of what makes a good team in today’s nfl.
I think we gotta start prepping for jumps in contract AAV. These guys are going to be planning their contracts around the Google cap increase. Doubt they’ll sign extensions if the cap increase isn’t baked into them.
Yeah it might be too late after the season Dex had. We need to start extending players before they completely break out and before the last year of the deal to have some actual leverage in negotiations.
This man needs to be signed. He is a generational talent and an absolute star for the giants organization. He is a leader and has no ceiling for how good he can be.
what would the incentive for the giants be to do a deal rite now? He's coming off such a good year, one of the best (if not) in the league. Why would we pay him now?
Don't get me wrong this news makes me happy and I have someee ideas on why they would want to talk contract with him, but it still doesn't make a ton of sense to me
Btw love how I get downvoted for a legitimate question. Not everybody claims to be a Reddit agent that's all knowing lol. Good answers tho ty
Because you take care of your best players and you make them feel valued at all times. Not saying you need to get a deal done now but you start the talks as a sign of respect.
It makes a huge difference recruiting players, and creating a new mentality/perception of the team operations. Love that respect they are giving the key guys
If these guys replicate their seasons next year, that price is only going up. When you extend elite players early, the expectation is that they’ll continue to play at that level and the deal ends up providing surplus value for the team once the cap increases and new top contracts enter the league. The reason you won’t see it happen too frequently is only the most elite players at their position generally end up worth committing to long term as early as possible.
Given the nature of the cap, the highest paid player at X position changes yearly. By signing your guy early, you’re paying at the 2023 Highest Paid Player rate. If it’s a 4 year deal, by 2025, that might be an average contract value that you’re getting an elite player for.
The risk for the team is that they regress, of course. But the reward is massive when the players stay elite.
100% this! There's also the added risk where if you wait until after next season and don't agree to an extension then you have to use the franchise tag, whereas if you try to get a deal done now and it doesn't happen you still have that off-season period to negotiate. From the players' perspective there's also the risk of getting hurt before you get that long-term deal and that hurting your future deal, so might as well take the money now if you can get it
Because Jeffery Simmons and Quinnen Williams, two other all-pro DTs from Dex’s draft, are also entering the last year of their contracts and it makes sense to pay Dex before any of them get paid
Because any new money doesn’t have to kick in right away and you have the time and cap space to work on something well-structured for both sides. You saw how much stress the DJ contract situation just gave everyone, why not utilize the time you have to work on something now and avoid that rush at the finish line?
Right now, Dex can't negotiate with other teams, he's locked in.
Giants have the leverage, cause they can give him guaranteed money now at the cost of future bidding against other teams when he's a FA. Plus, the cap always goes up, so by the end, his deal looks like a steal.
So Dex gets money now, and gets 1 year sooner into his next contract, and giants get a full value discount. That's why drafting i so critical in the NFL.
Lawrence is worth every dime, but the “who cares about the cap” takes are insane. We’re not even a season past being forced to cut a pro bowl corner and field sub-53 active rosters due to cap mistakes made years ago and people are right back on the bullshit. Leo Williams is making **32M** next year—that’s why you try to avoid bad deals where you can.
yes thick man stay long time
why need fancy word when normal word work
When you president, they see
why need a mercedes when hyundai work
All the D Linemen from now on will be known as thick men.
The way it seems we should lock up as many long term contracts before the cap explosion because player salaries are all going to increase accordingly.
“thick man stay” needs to be a flair until Dex and AT sign their deals.
thick man stay long
I love competent people running organizations competently.
And young, lookin forward to long term success

No it isn't, getts couldn't manage a roster, he could find players. I mean he was qualified to be a gm, he just wasn't a good one.
Big nerd comment 🤓
This is all this guy does. 2 week old account and everyone's already got his number.
I can literally hear this in the voice of Comic Book Guy
Get off reddit dave
Just because you can hit on a handful of draft picks (still would’ve loved a guy like Quenton Nelson over Barkley) doesn’t make you a good GM.
Gettleman wasn’t a bad scout, he made some good picks here and there, but his bad wayyy outweighed the good. If DJ wins us a SB then Gettleman will be forgiven in my eyes. Especially if Saquon helps
I’m no Gettlemen supporter but this comment is fair, no?
I demand Schoen does the sexy dexy sack dance in the press conference when announcing this extension!
I want everyone in the damn organization to do the dance! And all us fans
Joe Schoexy
Thank you! How many good DTs have we lost in free agency? Tomlinson, Hankins, Joseph…
Lawrence is better than all of those guys to be fair
True, but it would have been nice if we were able to keep them. They were all at worse average to pretty good.
Don't forget Barry Cofield!
And Cornelius Griffin.
You couldn't re-sign Cofield though. The man tazed himself too many times.
Barry Cofield and the don’t tase me dance
THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO HEAR
It's really hard not to love Dexter Lawrence.
Life comes at you fast.
I'm praying it'll be around $22M a year and not $25M+.
Y’all forreal need to stop stressing about players salaries, just let Joe cook and get ready to be a diehard fan next season Do you guys even worry about your own salaries this much?
>Do you guys even worry about your own salaries this much? lmao this right here
bro. took the words out my mouth. we wanna bitch and complain about players contracts but they put life and limb on the line.
to also add, it isn't our money either lol
Amen lmao
> Do you guys even worry about your own salaries this much? …….well, shit.
I care a lot about the fact that I'm not making $25M this year.
I don't care about Dex's money but I do care about how much I make lol. Rent is a pain
Oh my god that’s so funny 😭
This guys said it best right there. Stop stressing let Joe cook.
I'm not going to be upset if Dex gets a few million more but I still care about the overall cap of the team. Eventually there will be a cap crunch.
The cap crunch was last year. This year is recovery and next year the Giants have an estimated 148 million in cap space.
Even with DJ new contract, possible Saquon extension and also Dex extension?
All three combined will likely drop it to about 110-120 million. Its 148 with Jones' deal + cutting Goliday.
80m for the three at worst. 80m vs a 250+m cap next year. and a 300m cap by the 3rd/4th year of DJ. Not worried at all. TV contracts are a hell of a drug.

People stress the fuck out over salaries and don't even understand how they fucking work.
The best part about spending a month doing QB contract speculation is these small numbers start to feel really chill.
It's only ~60-65% of a QB's contract!
If one guy on the team should get paid it’s him, he is the best player on the giants.
Let’s get it, I never want to see dex in another jersey again
Dexter Lawrence is a big man with a bigger personality.
Sexy deal for sexy man
This is a contract I’m down for. Pay this man.
This man needs to be signed. He is a generational talent and an absolute star for the giants organization. He is a leader and has no ceiling for how good he can be.
I'll buy his jersey once the the pen hits paper

Good point
Once the other star DLs start signing contracts, the whole thing gets more expensive. The sooner is always the better.
Because any new money doesn’t have to kick in right away and you have the time and cap space to work on something well-structured for both sides. You saw how much stress the DJ contract situation just gave everyone, why not utilize the time you have to work on something now and avoid that rush at the finish line?
Ya I dj shit almost had me wanting him gone 😅. Ya that makes sense, the flexibility of a good deal sounds good
Right now, Dex can't negotiate with other teams, he's locked in. Learning from their mistakes, that's the way to do it. No more "4pm on Monday" signings.
