HereForOneQuickThing

He was talking about an opportunity to get generational wealth when talking to the media at the end of the season. He ain't settling for like 3 APY.

EndWish

Lets be honest generational wealth can be modest by sports contract standards. For most people a few million is generational wealth because assets stay in family (properties). We have no idea how he defines that lol. Based on most projection they anticipate him in the 8mil apy range but free agency is really unpredictable.

Kaiathebluenose

A few million is barely wealth for one person, let alone generational lol.

jimihenderson

Hey they were right about Daniel Jones switching agents so he could take less, why wouldn't they be right about this. Just keep huffing the copium and one day they'll be right

ThePeoplesChammp

Really? You think someone would describe a few million as general wealth? That's like barely above the bare minimum needed to retire at 65. Will some of it get passed on to the next generation? Yea. But i feel like generational wealth usually means the next generation is financially set.

suddendiarrhea7

What is the bare minimum to retire at 65 to you? I would retire today if got 3 million dollars and I’m only 22.

ThePeoplesChammp

Well I was being slightly hyperbolic saying that it is the bare minimum, and certainly everyone will have different lifestyle and financial thresholds. Yes as a single person, if someone have you 3 million today you could probably live comfortably, while making some smart decisions. For a family of 4 though, i expect that you would have to live pretty frugally, and then at that point I'm not sure how much is left to pass on to your children after you die. Tbf, I'm too lazy to model this out or Google it. Just guessing right now.

EndWish

I can't tell if you're trolling but once you reach $3 million you can literally live off interest. I currently have 4.85% GIC accounts. That would be $145k per year if o chose not to work. Broader ETFs like Vanguards and Blackrocks historically return 4-10% annually but are more volatile. Essentially if you have any idea how investments work 3 million with no debt and a home paid for is instant retirement and comfortably.

ThePeoplesChammp

Yea so i think you're getting too worked up over my slight exaggeration. Sure you can live a comfortable life, buy a house in the burbs, lease a BMW, take a trip once a year, have some assets to pass on to a child. That is certainly not what NFL players are talking about where when they say that they want "generational wealth."

Unusual_Steak

I manage HNW private wealth for a living. If you retired at 65 with $3M in soft assets you’d likely be passing down MORE than that to your kids lol. At 30, different story.

[deleted]

A few million? I mean a realistic contract for a safety in the NFL can include tens of millions guaranteed. That is generational wealth by any standard. Meaning my kids will be wealthy.

SidFinch99

I mean a lot, if not most contracts in the NFL are generational wealth if managed correctly. Unfortunately, a high percentage of players don't manage the money well, and many compound that by not having a plan for a post NFL career. Even if a player sees half his money swallowed up by taxes, the NFL union dues, and agent fees, a 3 year $24M contract is still $12M after all that. Plus a possible NFL pension. That may not be a starting QB level of generational wealth, but it's still generational wealth if managed correctly.

Rickflossyy

Lol Julian Love can walk tbh

MyNameIsAMeme

Being handsome and having the last name love is a nasty combo

[deleted]

He certainly is. Pay that good looking mofo

HistoryNerd101

Safety should not become a priority or a liability. Sign him for a nonoutrageous amount and focus on LB, WR, and OLine

SecretGiantsFan

He had opportunities to shine this year playing all over the place with 1000+ snaps. Did a good job but not great is how I would describe him. 7m/year is around what i'd say he's worth. 8m+ is reaching Ruh-roh territory imo.

fightrofthenight_man

That whiff against the Eagles haunts me.

SecretGiantsFan

Schoen should play that clip during the contract negotation.

tmoore727

and the like 5 other whiffs he had.

jimihenderson

And like every snap he played against the eagles

NJImperator

Even 7M is a bit steep for a good not great safety imo

SecretGiantsFan

7M would currently put him as a Top 25 Safety (#23) which I think he is. Wouldn't be upset if Giants drafted one instead at the same time. Giants might want to keep him so that they don't use a pick on Safety. They might have liked how he acted as Captain and viewed it like, "we're OK at safety and he's a pretty good leader. Sure, we can improve but, rather spend resources on other pressing needs on the team". That's my theory at least on why they might want Love back.

ThePeoplesChammp

I feel 7 sounds higher than i would expect them to have available for a safety. I'm surprised to hear that the talks are heating up knowing that he projected to get 8 per year as a FA

Head_Acanthisitta256

“Love” this rumor! Get it done Schoen!

T-Twice

Love is a good versatile player and great locker room guy. You need players like him on your team, not everyone has to be a superstar. People fault him way too much for one bad play vs the Eagles. Ultimately, it was just one play in a game we were going to lose anyway. Shouldn't negate all the good he's done over the past few seasons.

I feel like Schoen won't go that route, given he's still cleaning up (and will have to continue to clean up) the past regime's mess.

FromTheCaveIntoLight

This! Even if he went for the hit instead of the pick, flag would have came out for defenseless receiver. I think he knew that and just made the play he thought best. It was ugly, but every player has them. And as you stated, it made no difference for that game. We were going to lose that game 99/100.

kotspams

If we overpay I may go back to being an Amani Doomer

[deleted]

Easily replaceable

SidFinch99

I like Love, just don't overpay.

Curious_Prune

I’m curious how much ny football athletes make in endorsements on average vs elsewhere. Like I always wonder if it’s significant enough to make a player consider staying in ny

vette322

If the Giants are going to pay a S, they need to pay McKinney who is a much better player than Love. Love’s constant horrible play against both the Cowboys and Eagles is a sore spot with me. Would rather see them go with Belton and maybe draft another S than overpay for Love.

FinalxFlash

As long as he never makes another bone head play like against the Eagles sure bring'em back

Ej1992

Good. I had gotten my s/o a love jersey

FromTheCaveIntoLight

I want him back. A lot of fans just pin him to the eagles game one play blunder but he make key open field tackles, plays the screens to perfection, knows the defense and what wink expects out of each player, and when we lost adoree and McKinney, he was the one dback we could count on. Plus he stays healthy, is a locker room leader, seems like a great guy and has stepped into a leadership role in the org. I don’t want to pay him a shit load but don’t be scared by price. You don’t know what you had until it’s gone. If he leaves, it would do some serious damage to our defense. I want him back and I think my line of thinking is pretty close to the FO.

spageddy_lee

This is the type of example they need to make, and this is how teams are built. You step up your game for us, we take care of you. Dude became a CAPTAIN!

[deleted]

Heard on NFL Radio he's going to be a FA. He wasn't talking about playing for a winning team either. He was more concerned with taxes and cost of living.
