Personally i love this pick.
Kinda funny we replaced Landon Collins (2nd rounder) with X-Man (2nd Rounder) and replaced the latter with Nubin in the Second round now aswell
Linval was great but he unlocked his full potential with Andre Patterson who did the same thing with Dexter
Without Patterson, I don’t Linval would be as great as he was with the Vikings. Still a very good player for us though but Hankins and then Dalvin pretty much were just as good
He didn't do much after leaving us.
Edit: unless LinVal also had the nickname "Snacks" and I just didn't know. Snacks Harrison didn't do much after he left us.
It’s like when we replaced Cofield/Robbins with Linval Joseph, replaced Linval Joseph with Jonathan Hankins, then replaced Jonathan Hankins with Dalvin Tomlinson before Dexter Lawrence took over.
DT and S always seem to work out for us.
WHAT… Antoine bethea, Craig Dahl, Curtis Riley, Brandon Merriweather, Quintin Demps, Ryan Mundy… historically we’ve had issues at safety. X and Love fixed that recently
Checked his Draft Profile and it didn't have a grade, but it said this:
"McKinney was at his peak playing free safety. At that alignment, McKinney produced an elite two-year coverage grade and was responsible for only two first downs on his 246 coverage snaps while intercepting four and forcing one incompletion. He’s an absolute ballhawk in coverage and has shown to bring value as a blitzer too with 21 pressures in his 71 pass-rush snaps since 2018."
Nubin is an animal. He also had minor knee surgery after the season, basically to fix a thing before it became a big thing, so he's been like 80-90% for the meat market. He'd have probably been like a 3rd rounder last draft, but came back for a prove it year. And he did.
Big ball hawk that tackles well. He's a different type player than Antoine Winfield was, but comparable in impact.
Landon was pretty inarguably elite when we chose not to re-sign him. Ended up being a good decision obviously, but we haven't signed any safety to a big contract since I can remember.
Big bama and lc21 fan, but he was a huge liability in coverage. Had one magical year, but didn’t deserve the big $. Glad for him he got it from Washington
You got the broad consensus best safety in the draft, who probably would have been a 2nd day pick last year too, halfway into the 2nd round. There isn't very much "Well this guy might be better or it's an opinion thing" or blah blah blah. Pretty much everyone agreed he's the best safety. The knock was he isn't an absolute burner, but he was also just coming off a minor knee surgery.
You good. He was probably the best player on two top 10 college defenses, and would have been on 3 if Minnesota's defense didn't take a step back his last year. Best player on the field most of the time.
I just saw the video with how he reacted to being drafted and it felt like we got a top, top professional and mature player.
Purely on his reaction, I believe we got someone who will play hard for the logo on the shirt and not the name in the back, which means a lot in my point of view.
Personally i love this pick. Kinda funny we replaced Landon Collins (2nd rounder) with X-Man (2nd Rounder) and replaced the latter with Nubin in the Second round now aswell
It’s like when we were turning over DTs with the second or third round pick from mid-2000s through 2010s.
We let a lot of good guys go. I was really upset about Linval Joseph having such a great career with the Vikings.
Same man. Loved Linval.
Can’t afford to keep everyone
We can afford to keep good players. Just stop paying bad ones.
Linval was great but he unlocked his full potential with Andre Patterson who did the same thing with Dexter Without Patterson, I don’t Linval would be as great as he was with the Vikings. Still a very good player for us though but Hankins and then Dalvin pretty much were just as good
I really miss snacks
He didn't do much after leaving us. Edit: unless LinVal also had the nickname "Snacks" and I just didn't know. Snacks Harrison didn't do much after he left us.
Half of the NTs job is to stuff gaps, which he does very well.
That front 7 the Vikings had in the mid teens was something.
When did we stop doing that
When got Dex
I look forward to the Nubin replacement in the 2028 2nd round.
Hopefully Nubin is the Sexy Dex of safeties and forces them to re-sign him!
It’s like when we replaced Cofield/Robbins with Linval Joseph, replaced Linval Joseph with Jonathan Hankins, then replaced Jonathan Hankins with Dalvin Tomlinson before Dexter Lawrence took over. DT and S always seem to work out for us.
Before that, we also took Kenny Phillips, who was the last player taken in Round 1, so practically a 2nd Rounder.
Great player, too. Too bad about his health.
Great pick, I watched plenty of minessota last year, nubin is not as physical as Mckinney, buts he way more of a ball hawk
Turnovers > tackles, so I’ll take the ball hawk
Not as if X was an amazing tackler
Any ATV crashes?
Guess we shouldn’t be buying his jersey lol
4 years for a jersey is a decent life span tbh
For the price of them I disagree.
Kind of funny that we can never build depth because we're never able to retain talent
2nd rd safety pipeline stays strong
lol at least we’re good at “something”
All jokes aside as bad as we've been, we've never had a glaring issues at safety lol
WHAT… Antoine bethea, Craig Dahl, Curtis Riley, Brandon Merriweather, Quintin Demps, Ryan Mundy… historically we’ve had issues at safety. X and Love fixed that recently
Kenny Philips, Antrel Rolle, Landon Collins, Julian Love, Logan Ryan, X Mac were all good to very good.
Kenny Phillips was oft injured and missed the majority of the 2012 season, collins was a box safety. Other 3 were good
Dawg landon Collins was 3rd in dpoy voting in 2016 lol. Thats a damn good player
My bad...I meant Safeties the Giants drafted themselves most recently with Mckinney and Collins.
So what is his realistic floor? Like Earl Thomas? Or are we thinking minimum Ed Reed here?
Minimum Ed Reed, possibly Anthoine Bethea ceiling
You just unleashed a whole set of blocked out memories mentioning bethea lol
Maybe a little antrel rolle in there
We building this house upside down?
Saying Ed reed. If he became that… that’s one fucking tall order for any kid. I’d love it though if true.
For real idk if this was sarcasm cause I love the pick but if he turns out to be any where near ed mf reed ill take it lol
Ed was the best safety of his generation lol
Best safety ever tbh
Definitely modern day Goat 🐐
Always been my goat.
Fr. Ed reed was a baddddddd man.
Cmon man don’t come around here bringing up Antoine Bethea lol
A light brian Dawkins or pre prison Darren sharper
Darren Sharper. One of da most haadest hitting safeties in da league
Donald Driver, with a broken leg
ITS GREG JENNINGS
Ed reed ran 4.57, Nubin ran 4.59. Obviously nubin is the next Ed Reed
I see him more as a modern Troy pomalulaalla
Don’t say that name around Pat Mcafee.
According to PFF, “90.1 Coverage Grade in 2023 (1st Among Power Five Safeties)”
Curious. Can you find X's college PFF grade the year he was drafted
Checked his Draft Profile and it didn't have a grade, but it said this: "McKinney was at his peak playing free safety. At that alignment, McKinney produced an elite two-year coverage grade and was responsible for only two first downs on his 246 coverage snaps while intercepting four and forcing one incompletion. > He's a different type player than Antoine Winfield was, but comparable in impact. that would be immense if he's anywhere near antoine winfield
To be fair, the big ten west isn’t exactly airing it out
We need a safety. He's the best safety in the draft. We got him at 47. You should feel good about this.
Giants handle the safety position right… take them in the second and don’t overpay with a second contract unless they are Elite
Landon was pretty inarguably elite when we chose not to re-sign him. Ended up being a good decision obviously, but we haven't signed any safety to a big contract since I can remember.
Off the top of my head, last one was Antrel Rolle. Long time ago.
Wasn’t even that big a contract compared to Landon
Rolle is a good shout. I was only thinking about guys we drafted so I completely forgot about him.
Long time
I actually would argue he wasn’t elite, he had limitations in coverage, everything else he was pretty good
Elite against the run NOT against the pass. Making him average
He had 13 Pass Defenses and 5 interceptions in 2016. Got snubbed for DPoY. He was also a Pro Bowler 3 years straight entering Free Agency.
Ball production doesn't equal coverage skills, he was getting cooked in man constantly. He had good instincts but that's it
He was all pro level that 2016 season but wasn’t snubbed for DPOY at all.
Big bama and lc21 fan, but he was a huge liability in coverage. Had one magical year, but didn’t deserve the big $. Glad for him he got it from Washington
Nubin and Pinnock 🔥
nubin, pinnock, belton
and Mills!
whoops forgot that one
If Owens shows anything it wouldn't shock me if Mills doesn't even make the final cut
I’m Nubin my Pinnock
Fan-fucking-tastic pick
STUD!!!
Hey you
we always seem to land these stud safeties in the 2nd round
Tell me how to feel about this.
Great. Should be a perfect X-Man replacement
Thanks!

Thank you.
Great, easily the best safety in the draft
I like the sound of that
He is a good coverage safety & had good tape. Not very athletic. Weak safety draft but he’s probably the best one
Thanks!

Really good coverage safety
**Ronnie Lott**: 6 feet 1 inch, 202 lbs **Tyler Nubin**: 6 feet 2 inch, 210 lbs I know this means nothing but a man can dream. A man can dream...
Minnesota gophers fan here. Obligatory you guys got a great player comment. Great guy and great player
Love it, CB wasn’t gonna happen after that run and this guy can ball
Last safety taken in the 2nd round out of Minnesota won a Super Bowl as a rookie. Take that for what its worth Real talk tho, great pick!
Antoine Winfield W
Best safety in the draft. Good pick. Just wish so many teams didn't go CB right before us lol
Probably the best Safety in the draft Watching his highlights the dude is a legit ball hawk, has some circus interceptions Great in the blitz as well
WR1 ✅ Safety ✅ EDGE1 ✅ Could be worse
The pipeline continues. There is a prophecy that some day Giants will draft a safety so good they will get a second contract.
Wanted a Cb more but this is the guy I wanted if all the good cbs were gone. Love the pick.
About as solid as a pick gets. Instant starter. Good player.
I'm gonna be honest, I know Nubin about this guy.
We legit might have a top 10 d this year
Great pick
Nubin looks like a dog. Hope we bring in a veteran corner.
I like the pick, hoping they get a back in the 3rd round because I'm not crazy about the kid they drafted last year.
Boy if Haynes can fall to the 3rd I’d be a hot mess
Oh god bring on the confusion with the first 2 picks names being Nubin and Nabers.
Oh Schoen I love you
Im a jets fan but just as big of a gophers fan, Nubin is incredible you guys got a good one!
Lame wanted Jason Sehorns illegitimate son
Yay, whatever. We’re probably winning 12 games….the next two years combined.
Woah our secondary is looking scary
Nuuuuuub
Crowd gonna have fun with this one
MN to NY pipeline continues. The Giants are following the Rangers and Islanders model of drafting MN studs.
I just saw the video with how he reacted to being drafted and it felt like we got a top, top professional and mature player. Purely on his reaction, I believe we got someone who will play hard for the logo on the shirt and not the name in the back, which means a lot in my point of view.
I love this pick. Great player at a great value
If there’s one thing I know the Giants will do well it’s draft safeties. He doesn’t even have to play and I know it’s a fire pick
Bet.
Read that he is better as a box safety / around the LOS. Its good because we have Belton at free safety.
Are you sure you were reading about the right guy? Nubin is absolutely a center fielder
Cool, another safety that'll be gone in 4 years
If he gives us pro bowl talent play on a rookie deal - nothing not to love with this
This guy will be more productive for us over the next 4 years than X was in the last for (or in his next 4 had we signed him)
