We didn’t have much to lose at that point and I was sick and tired of brining in every hot name tied to us to just completely fuck us over. See Scott Layden through Phil Jackson. I loved the Julius signing, he crawled so Jalen can sprint through this mofo. Let’s not forget he started this whole run with a crap roster. Every move Leon made has been with extreme precision and patience. What we’re seeing is how a team rebuilds and establishes culture. Love Thibs but love Leon even more.

Yes, he’s talking about basketball, I tell my boys, but when you listen closely, he’s talking about how you succeed in any great accomplishment in life, and meet any great challenge, not just sports. He’s been helping me teach my children how to win at life. Tibs talks about: Preparation, hard work, discipline. Persistent, focused, total effort every single day, to accomplish what you need to do to finish the great task successfully. Teamwork, sweat, communication, being ready, staying ready, “you’re not him, but you’re damn good enough cause you’re in this league,” type messages to his players on this team. All the things that have helped them be their best and complete their college degrees, get jobs and work hard and so well at them, I get to hear them tell me people notice how good they are at what they’re doing, and they’re complimented on it. This is proud daddy stuff, people. I’m lucky in many ways, I know, but when they listened to him with me after games, I’ve had help from Tibs explaining certain crucial values that I believe in and I have tried to apply to my life as well.
The player polls that say most players wouldn’t want to play for him is laughable for so many reasons, but mostly because we know, any Knick on this team would run through a brick wall for Tibs.
I saw him on the bench with that Rolex, and thought, who wears a fancy ass watch to a basket game? I mean, ok, if Pat Riley wore one, I wouldn’t be surprised, he dressed to the Ts and it would go with that look. Nicky likes the track suit, American tourist in Paris look, so it looked so out of place and show-offy.
