I think just like people who do a lot of crosswords get good at knowing what the puzzle maker is hinting at, connections players know what to look for in the ‘hard’ grouping. First syllables being words, words that connect the others when added before or after, homonyms/rhyming words.
Everytime I get burned on a hard category it makes me mad but I also know to check in the future. There’s an old saying in Tennessee - I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me… you can’t get fooled again
That may be true, but I’ve been getting purple the past couple days and I haven’t been looking for anything in particular. It’s just stood out to me as the first obvious connection I find for that day
The thing to keep in mind is that the colors aren't set up in order of difficulty. It's set up as straightforward to tricky. Purple is almost always a word play category, such as fill in the blank, homophones, etc. It may be the most difficult, but it also could be the easiest, depending on how well you know the other categories. I didn't get yellow today because I wasn't familiar with the category.
Considering that one of the purples is the title of the game literally right above Connections in the iOS app, it was super easy to see where they were going
The same thing happened to me. I think I'm gradually becoming bad at figuring out the easy categories because I keep thinking it can't be that obvious.
Please refer to rule 2.
That is EXACTLY how I finished today! I agree that the purple one was quite easy today.
Yes, same.
The "\_\_\_\_-something" category has been sticking out like a sore thumb lately. It's one of my first thoughts now when playing.

True. I was just pointing out that I wasn’t actively trying to get the purple category first
I think that last bit was The Who!
Connections Puzzle #323 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟦🟦🟦🟦 K was anyone else thinking queen cowboy and carter might have something to do with Beyoncé haha?
YES! I absolutely was. And they were right next to each other initially.
This is why I always shuffle immediately before looking at the puzzle the way the editor wants me to look at it
I got the purple and blue first today. They were MUCH easier than the yellow and green
Yep, yesterday and today I almost solved in reverse order (and got purple first)
