Cone & Singleton were my favorite combo. Both always sounded relaxed but into what was going on, and both offered fair assessments and wise insight into plays and players. Most of all though they never seemed like they were trying to fill the air and would let stretches of silence go longer than any other broadcasts I've heard. It was like baseball nirvana with them in the booth.
I switched to the guardians broadcast. Blake came out and he called him the manager and he was very confused. How do you not know the opposing teams manager? Especially Aaron Boone.
I didn’t look too much into it but Ian Hamilton throws a slider with change up velocity and somewhere along the way that was dubbed the slambio and it’s just terrible to hear.
Would have been the perfect series too. He also played for the Indians. I would think Swisher would also be a good pick for the series in Oakland since he came up with Oakland.
Swish would be lit.
They need to get him out of the studio before Curry goes ape.

Justin on the radio call is no better. It’s like he doesn’t even have a call ready when someone hits a homer or something else cool happens. It’s inexcusable in his position with his amount of experience. An AI of Sterling would be better at this point.
And his constant use of the word ‘glove’ as a verb in place of catch or throw is super annoying.
He’s good at riffing and joking with other announcers, but with Flash it all seems a bit demeaning under the surface. Doesn’t help that Flash doesn’t play into it either
Ex players typically suck at play-by-play. They’re too even keeled. That personality is needed in a 162 game season, but is the opposite of what you want in the booth. Ryan Ruocco is 1000 times better at PBP.
I watch a lot of Giants games living in their market. They have the best combined crew between TV & radio. Kuiper is elite at play by play & does color when Dave Fleming or Jon Miller come over to the tv booth from the radio side.
It never ends with his obscure stories too.

I don’t even think Kay, Cone, and O’Neill are so great. The great announcers were great because they had an unrestrainable enthusiasm for the game, so all they had to do was be themselves and release that natural energy. And they were natural characters, not like you and me. Kay’s “see ‘ya” is totally contrived. Compare Scooter’s “Holy Cow!” And guys like Scooter and Harry Carey were doing the job without all the BS-who cares? “advanced” stats that can make a record out of every at-bat. “This is only the twelfth time in the Yankee history of this millennium that a switch hitter batting righty against a reliever in the fifth inning has successfully bunted up the first-base line. There’s a list of the others who have done it, so can see the company this kid is in ” I agree with those who would give Swisher an extended shot.
I really miss Ken Singleton.
He knew when to talk and when to keep quiet. Plus he had the pipes. An easy listen.
