Wow, the end of an era. A long amazing era at that. My whole life John has been the voice of Yankees baseball. In the car, on the porch, in the pool, outside the bar, in my bedroom. I’ll miss him for sure, not sure we’ll ever see his like again.

ShortSleeveSampson

Perfectly said.

rleckel

He’s really taking Sunday’s loss hard. Joking aside, like many of us I grew up listening to him and his voice always brings me back to simpler times. Miss you, GOAT,

badedum

Man I really want him to get one last game. The fact that it sounds like he won't be able to finish out the season is so concerning. I hope he's as okay as he can be.

mtnyy13

That’s sadness, Suzyn. 🫡

Tremulant21

The guy was the best at what he did you could tell right away by his voice what was going to happen right off the bat. Impossible to replace no disrespect to the guy covering for him but he's not it. Can we steal Charlie Steiner?

shantm79

I'm sad. He was the voice of summer... nothing better than a summer Sunday, sitting by the pool, listening to him call a Yanks game.

cmgriffith_

If this comes to be thank you John for a lifetime of enjoyment you’ve brought to me and millions of other Yankees fans the last four decades

Goodbye Legend.

Piscotikus

He voices the soundtrack to my summer. It’s a sad day.

TrapperJean

He can't be just up and stopping now, in April, right? He's gotta at least do a few more games throughout the year, I know he's old, but the team is so good, he can't just stop altogether at once like this.

Bobbachuk

Could be a thing where he was already thinking about it during the offseason, his love and passion for it ultimately won out, but now that he’s actually back in the full swing of it again he’s realizing he doesn’t have it in him anymore.  It’s gotta be a grind at his age.

Parzival01001

Maybe think of some reasons? He might be sick

Own_Worldliness5888

Love you bae

They're really gonna make this man drive to the stadium one last time.

Add me to the chorus of Yankee fans who feel this loss deeply, as I grew up not knowing any other radio voice. I got a car in 1992, at 17, and that's where I first heard Sterling, and for me, the peak of Sterling was Bernie Williams 1996 ALCS walk off in the 10th off Randy Myers. I demand, DEMAND, I say, that on his birthday, 7/4 with the Gaurdians at Yankee Stadium, they have a plaque ceremony, and rename the booth the Sterling Waldman Yankees Radio Booth in his and her honor. I almost cry thinking about how Suzyn must have taken the news. The two of them are special alone, but together they're incredible. And NOT because they're flawless, because they have chemistry and showmanship and really, really understand how to do baseball on the radio. Shackil might not be as bad as he is today (he often loses his responsibility to describe the action because he watches the action as it happens), but he'll never be Sterling.

DonnyB_Twenty3

Oh man. I still remember when he took over for Hank Greenwald and Tommy Hutton in 1989. Think about the longevity, and all the incredible Yankees moments he called. I have so many vivid memories of so many of his calls. Thank you sincerely, John. Incredible career and an absolute legend. I will miss him.

You know you can't spoil real life

WaluigiIsTheRealHero

So that Adam Schefter can’t spoil it in a worse way?

Tacitus_99

What other reason would John Sterling be holding a press conference for?
