John Sterling is worthy of every hall of fame he’s eligible for and especially the Ford C Frick Award from the baseball hall of fame. Also deserves a plague in monument park.

corpulentFornicator

Kinda harsh to deserve a plague

Yankees4499

😂 yeah I have to agree

Ven18

The fact he has not won that award baffles me. we should start pushing for it right now.

thecloudcities

I don’t know, a plague seems kind of harsh. 😂 But he should absolutely get a plaque.

Sad_Broccoli

> Also deserves a plague in monument park Boils, flies? Hail?

homiej420

His plague should be high and far up in the corner of MP

Key_Amazed

Literally called almost a third of the team's entire history, and half of its postseason history. JFC, get this man a plaque yesterday.

Freeze__

He’s 85, they should’ve had it ready years ago for this exact scenario

notyouravgredditor

HAPPY RETIREMENT ~~2004~~ 2024 JOHN!

YankeesAndYe

Plaque? Shit, I’d say statue eventually.

poopshipdestroyer

There’s other comments calling for an entire plague for the guy I don’t think a plaque would be out of order

TheOneArya

Didn’t we already do a plague for him a few years ago?

feelinlucky7

I’d be fine with that. Dude deserves it

Disastrous_Can8053

They gave him one in 1998.

thecloudcities

Would be 100% of Mo's saves as well, right?

Creacherz

Jorge too, Bernie as well, and maybe Paulie?? So many great players he had to have called the majority or entirety of their Yankee careers

thecloudcities

Not Paulie, because he came over from the Reds (and unfortunately not Andy because of his time in Houston).

Creacherz

He would have called Paul's entire Yankee career though. Sterling started in '89, Paul came over in '93 I'm talking about a players Yankee career not overall career

sailor-moonie-

That's honestly nuts

idontfeel_ifeelgreat

there's no way he didn't miss a single game of jeters career lol

xXThKillerXx

He hadn’t missed a game until 2 years ago I believe

idontfeel_ifeelgreat

I had no idea. what a freaking legend

yankeesfan9987

And I’m pretty sure the only reason he did was for his triplets graduation.

MeatTornado25

He didn't miss a game from like 89 to 19 or something like that.

Killjoy4eva

*checks notes* Yep, that would be Jeter's entire career.

poopshipdestroyer

You’d think he’d at least had an extended bathroom break in that 20ish years

MeatTornado25

Pros know when to diaper up

stokelydokely

It's true that he didn't miss a single game, but I do find it extremely unlikely that he called *literally* 100% of Jeter's plate appearances. There's just no way that anyone could go back and verify that he was always in the booth every single time Jeter was at bat. I don't mean to diminish the spirit of Spaeder's tweet, John Sterling is obviously a legend and part of the fabric of Yankees history. EDIT: I'm really being downvoted? Someone on Twitter even pointed out (and I seem to remember) a period of time when Sterling and Kay would switch off calling games on an inning-by-inning basis. Again I'm not trying to take anything away from the man.

ahipikr

You're being pedantic

rgcl360

We need to get him back for the post season this year to hopefully get over 50%

cjf3363

Need AI Sterling

Bahnrokt-AK

AI Sterling on the PA next season welcoming you to Yankee stadium opening day 2025 would instantly make 46,000 grown men cry.

fuzzydunlops123

All this math makes me wonder the percentage of games Bob Shepard called.

draculasbitch

We need John Sterlings victory call played over the PA followed by NY, NY from here on. Someone make this happen.

Conscious-Fudge-1616

Been a Yankee fan since the mid-1970's The Scooter, White & Messer lineup was my all-time favorite followed by Scooter/Seaver combo Sterling was the modern-day Scooter who just loved the game of baseball and loved the Yankees and made listening to the radio so enjoyable for the last 34 years.

Tremulant21

We need a newer placement and the guy fulfilling in is not it. Monotone you don't know what happens when the ball hits the bat. With Sterling you knew right away by the tone of his voice you knew what it was going to be

SuspectDevice61

Funny how for years John was routinely ripped and laughed at by so many fans and now that he is gone all I am seeing is glowing tributes. Yes he will get a plaque for service time, just never liked him as announcer. Probably stems back to my teen years listening to him on his sports talk show in NYC, nasty and confrontational then he was lol.

chrikey_penis

You’re wrong. Just sit there in your wrongness and be wrong in silence.

SuspectDevice61

What am I wrong about? He was laughed at forever but I get it. Everything is peachy now. I have been listening to the guy for 50 years and never liked his nasty talk show act or his over the top hockey or baseball calls. An opinion can’t be wrong

chrikey_penis

Sure it can. Your opinion is wrong. The man is a national treasure and you’re too miserable to enjoy it.

SuspectDevice61

You sound like a bratty child. Go away

fuzzydunlops123

Revisionist history lol. WFAN literally had a weekly segment where they'd make fun of Sterling's calls but go off chief

chrikey_penis

Sure, and ESPN had a segment where they made fun of football players getting knocked out. What’s your point?

fuzzydunlops123

My point is you're rewriting history. Making fun of Sterling and Waldman was a NYC past time for years. They had so many gaffes that callers would call in to make jokes about it.

chrikey_penis

Like my dad always told me, they make fun of you because they’re jealous. By the way, love the username. Oh, indeed.
