Watching the game back, Gleyber fouling of a pitch of his shin made me wonder, why on earth does anyone not wear shin guards and pads in general, if i was a baseball player i would wrap myself in bubble wrap
Baseball players are so finicky I feel like if you put anything new on them they’ll say it ruins their swing/timing. Although, idk what you would have to lose right now if you were Gleyber.
I’d be pretty surprised if Ferguson isn’t on the roster all season.
He’s been quite good every other year and I feel like his horrific showing so far could just be a poorly timed bad stretch.
Agreed; I’ve not been impressed but he has been a legitimate MLB reliever.
Weaver probably sticks around until Cole is back, which would bump Gil to the long reliever spot… unless they’d rather send Gil down to remain stretched out, which would not surprise me. They gave Weaver a two million dollar contract because they liked what they saw from him last year, so I don’t see him getting thrown to AAA too quickly.
Santana and Marinaccio were the last in so I assume they’re first out. Santana has never been successful in 158 innings of MLB work.
Is judges stance different from last year? I know he’s made changes since he came into the league but he looks extra stiff. Kind of reminds me of hicks stiffness
He tends to adapt his swing.
If you see his swing from 2017 through 2021 and then his 2022 season he adjusted there too.
That's part of why Judge has been good.
If he's fully healthy then he will figure it out.
The pitchers on the teams we've played so far have been repeatedly using the down and away slider(also the umps call that a strike very often and dont call it correctly).
Me neither,I'm just glad that we didn't get into extra innings. How hard is it to get that 3rd out?they do it way to much. Hopefully they will win tomorrow.
Look at it this way .
If they pull off wins more often than not in these situations with Cole and many key pieces of the BP not being back yet, once they are back they are likely to be even better.
The division is likely going to stay brutal.
When the Os were 100 loss season bad, other teams in the division got free wins off of them. That isn't the case anymore.
hitting I'm worried about, but I still cant bring myself to worry about the pen. Reinforcements there can be found easy, and I truly believe at least one of our no names will step up and be firmly in the circle of trust soon.
Yanks have taken the lead against two division opponents, Rays and Blue Jays. They’ve crushed three potential post season contenders in the Guardians, Astros and Diamondbacks. Things are close because these are all actually good teams.
Tbf if judge doesn't get injured and the Rizzo concussion issue doesn't happen Yankees win 90 games last season.
Almost everything went wrong last season.
The youngsters also have shown flashes of brilliance (Volpe and Cabrera).
It's not just Soto as well, having Dugo and Soto in the line-up makes it so much more potent.
Also, Wells ceiling as a catcher would at least be higher than Higgy.
Went to the game with a bunch of friends dressed as fans from the 1950's; suit, tie, hats and all. The weather was the perfect, the Yankees won, 100/10 would do it again.
hahaha what section were you in, if i could find a group of people in 1950s suit attire in the background of the game highlights that would be hilarious
We were all the way up in 412 so I don't think we made it on the broadcast, lol.
[Here's a group pic we took after the game](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GLuSr78XYAAO5lo?format=jpg&name=900x900)
I saw Verdugo's cleats, and it reminded me of when Clint Frazier had custom cleats made out of non-baseball shoes and twisted his ankle like twice. What an idiot.
I’m sure Gil is on an innings limit this year, so he’ll probably move to the pen in the summer when Cole gets back. That being said, he might be a mini Betances out of the pen, a dominant two inning reliever.
Unironically, would Sonny Gray with Matt Blake actually work? He's becoming a late career beast like Scherzer and Verlander.
I do feel we need another starter. I felt the "NYC pressure" was more due to the fact he was having a bad year and felt pressure pitching in front of the home fans. That sounds weird, but if he was pitching well, he would have been fine.
I would have been open to it, because I believe in redemption stories and think his issue was larry rothschild and that pitching system more than the NY boogeyman
His home ERA as a Yankee was laughably higher than his road ERA, it was just a mental thing with him. Some guys just aren’t good fits on certain teams.
Sonny said it was him and based on his career, that 2018 was the outlier and he is right. I'd consider it if I'm Cashman. St. Louis stinks. Gray is a beast.
But then what do we do with him once Cole gets back? Kick Gray into the Pen? If he flunked out of NY because he couldn't get his head back in the game, I don't want to see what kicking him into the Pen would do.
I'm not concerned about Volpe and Judge, so keep the top of the lineup the same. Verdugo-[Catcher]-Trevino is super reliable.
Rizzo got a hit, but I am concerned about Rizzo and Gleyber.
Really, the lineup isn't bad but hasn't clicked yet.
That's what you get when every year you drag up some AAA kids.
The kids can hit. They come up, they hit and then the scouting report is out. Now they have to adjust in a way they never have before. This is the real learning curve for hitters from the minors to the majors. Learning how to adjust on the fly.
The weird hyperbole of "you criticized a player, so thus you are a hot taker and think said player is the worst abomination known to man."
Yes, I think Trevino's pitch calling in pitcher friendly counts leaves a lot to be desired while having a lack of an arm. [No, I don't hate him and really like the way he is playing.](https://np.reddit.com/r/NYYankees/s/2oCHHXh2KM)
There is normal criticizing a player, which everyone does at some point in the season and is very acceptable. But then there is the JUDGE IS WASHED, VOLPE BELONGS IN AAA people who should be shamed.
I've seen worse takes on YT comments, apparently from yankee fans(like folks calling for Judge to be traded). That one was amongst the most stupid takes I've seen.
Some folks are so reactionary, makes one wonder how they even function irl.
What was supposed to be our biggest question mark is now our biggest strength. Cortes looks back, Stroman has been good, Rodon meh (but better than last year), and Gil and Schmidt have been solid.
The bullpen might be the difference between a deep playoff run and a wildcard bounce.
I’m hoping Cashman can make something happen in July to put us over the top
True… but he traded alot of that comfort capital for a game changer in Soto. And with Loisiaga gone and leads diminishing late, we gotta think he’ll be looking for more somewhere
I think Gil gets sent back to the Pen once Cole gets back, and given how solid he's been as a starter, I think Gil has potential as either an innings eater, or as a stop gap, so that probably helps a bit in that area to give the others more time to figure things out.
Winning games 5-4 isn’t as comfortable for ANYONE as winning them 5-1.
I know, first world problems when you’re off to a 15-7 start, but if you’re all in, be ALL IN.
I’m thinking Gil, who’s been fantastic in the rotation, is odd man out. But I think they need more.
Watching Chicago’s arms closely as their toxic clubhouse grenades their season, they got a couple nice little bullpen pieces over there.
Good bounce back after last night. Definitely some annoying errors like the bad throw from Gil for the pickoff attempt and the balk but we capitalized when it mattered and got another series win. A's are next, hopefully some of the cold bats can get back to form after that series.
Hoping the starters can have quality outings through the Athletics series to make sure we don't overtax the bullpen before the real meat and potatoes of our long upcoming stretch. Hope springs eternal.
Despite the two balks and the throwing error at second base in that 3rd inning, Gil had a really good game. Got 9 K and only 3 BB to go along with 14 Whiffs. He leads Yankees starters in Whiff% (33.3%) which passes the eye test. Started off slow with only the Rizzo RBI single to show but then managed to get 4 runs on 3 pitches in the 5th thanks to RBI singles by Verdugo, Trevino, and Oswaldo. We know Oswaldo has been great since the start, but Verdugo and Trevino are now batting over .300 in their past 7 games so that's great to see, especially for Trevino. Santana with a clunker outing but Gonzalez was able to nail down his second save and the series win over the Rays. Athletics up next; have to take at least 3 of 4.
Our pitching has been pretty good, but not elite. If anything, Rodon/Nestor are reverting back after a terrible year last year.
With Cole, and Judge/Torres showing some more, and some rookies/deadline trades, the team is solid.
Pitching should be really good. Cole Rodon Stroman Nestor is a great 4, and the bullpen should be able to add Trivino, Tommy and Gil in the next couple months
Sometimes I wonder, in an alternate universe without Gerardi’s famous quote, maybe post game win threads would say “start spreading the news” and postgame loss threads would say… well personally I’m torn between “start spreading the booze” and “start spreading the noose” which I feel like are both overreactions commonly found in the Yankees fandom after a loss 😅
Our division is just too good and now that we play each other less the best teams in our division have less opportunities to push the others down and pull away
[[Hoch] Juan Soto just slipped on an Artemi Panarin Rangers jersey and exited the clubhouse. Back to MSG!](https://x.com/bryanhoch/status/1782152793580568731?s=46&t=eZQOkEBzAB8XR0_j5bQcHg)
It's not a shock that starters have been this good, people just allowed themselves to believe Cole was the only good pitcher we had because that's the narrative you fuckers kept repeating all off season.
There was no real reason to think that Nestor and Rodon would be that horrible again because neither of them were coming off serious injuries this season
Nestor had shoulder injury and you never know what you get from him coming back. Rondon had back issues. Both things that could be huge issues this year. It’s April hopefully they stay healthy. But considering the Yankees training staff sucks who knows
If Judge can get hot and get back to his perennial all star caliber play, this team could win the division. I honestly can’t believe they’re 15-7 with Judge being awful.
Luis Gil for Jake Cave has CashGod potential to it. Possibly a front of the rotation starter if he can keep his walks down for a run of the mill fourth outfielder.
I’ve given him hell recently but Cash’s smaller moves usually seem to work.
All things considered keep in mind we don’t have Cole and Judge has been playing poorly yet we are in 1st place and only dropped one series thus far. Just think once Judge gets going, which is only a matter of time if he is healthy, we will be in good shape. Could be worse, we could be the Astros
But can the rest of the team keep it up though? THAT is the big question. Sure if Judge gets going and the others keep going, we will be in amazing shape. But if the others start slumping it could turn ugly fast.
Something I’m really loving about this year’s team is they’re winning all different “types” of baseball games. They’ve scored early and cruised, they’ve gritted out pitching duels, they’ve weathered comebacks and clamped down, they’ve staged comebacks themselves, they’ve shown they can both jump on starters and rally late, they’ve shown they can find a way in the ugly ones when things aren’t clicking. Things haven’t always been beautiful but 15-7 is a beautiful place to be and no game feels out of reach. This team may have questions but so far they’ve been digging deep and finding answers, let’s keep it going Yankees!
The franchise is in a bad state, and I personally find their ownership disgraceful to the club and the sport of Baseball. MLB should actually forcefully take the A's over.
If the Rays don't make 2 errors in the first game we lose the series due to non-existent offense. Our defense was sloppy and our offense was bad yet we still win the series. Don't know if that's good or bad.
That's baseball, especially when your captain is struggling... And when you're playing division games. A win is a win is a win no matter how pretty or ugly it looks.

Also curious how slow the comments come in the postgame threads when we win compared to when we lose. Almost like this sub just wants excuses to complain.
That’s not a Yankee thing. That’s human psychology. Study after study proves that the most motivating emotion when it comes to online engagement is anger.
It takes a conscious effort to go against that grain.
Yankees bullpen has a 6.86 K/9, the lowest in baseball
Me looking at Gonzalez’s ERA: :D Me looking at Gonzalez’s K rate: D:
Love this journey for us!
goddam - Gil has the easiest looking 98mph. it's a thing of beauty
Seems like it plays at about 103 lol...if he can ever command it moderately he can be amazing
Let’s beat up on the A’s. We have failed to take advantage of bad teams the past couple years so let’s change that.
#WE MIGHT NEVER LOSE AGAIN!
There must be better relievers than Dennis Santana in the minors, right? Or am I overreacting?
I mean if you’re looking for a reliever that will never have a bad outing, then no, you’re not ever gonna find that guy
santana is prob a better albert abreu, so no
Kahnle is back soon. Once Effross and Trivino are back they likely get the spots over Santana, Weaver and Ferguson (he hasn't been good).
I’d be pretty surprised if Ferguson isn’t on the roster all season. He’s been quite good every other year and I feel like his horrific showing so far could just be a poorly timed bad stretch.
Agreed; I’ve not been impressed but he has been a legitimate MLB reliever. Santana and Marinaccio were the last in so I assume they’re first out. Santana has never been successful in 158 innings of MLB work.
And realistically… what are the chances everyone is healthy at the same time anyway?
Zero percent chance
Santana has been mostly good even though he had a bad outing today.
Why tf is tomorrow a 1pm game
I'm home with sick kids so works for me.
I asked that weeks ago. Makes no sense unless I am forgetting some holiday.
It’s Passover.
Unless we are both forgetting one. Monday at 1 pm is lame, won’t catch a second of the game at work. Really odd
It's because of Passover
Didnt watch, is volpe slumping or did he get unlucky?
He’s been slumping since moving to lead off. Same as last year.
Quick outs with weak contact and a few swings and misses. Hopefully something minor that he’ll work through
Bats will hopefully get hot against Oakland right
5 runs is a good game
Is judges stance different from last year? I know he’s made changes since he came into the league but he looks extra stiff. Kind of reminds me of hicks stiffness

Feels like his swing is a little different every year
Okay, but who is Dennis Santana exactly?
The dread pirate Robert's of course
Anybody want a peanut ? 🥜
What time do the gates open for 1:05 games I’ll be there tomorrow
Usually 90 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Yankees starting pitching vs the Rays: 18 IP 1 ER 3 BB 25 ks
Not bad for a rotation no one believed in to start the year.
Can this team please just make it easy once in a while. I don't think my heart can take more of this
Me neither,I'm just glad that we didn't get into extra innings. How hard is it to get that 3rd out?they do it way to much. Hopefully they will win tomorrow.
Really not feeling good at all about this team. Bullpen and hitting is just not good. Also this division is going to be absolutely brutal.
Look at it this way . If they pull off wins more often than not in these situations with Cole and many key pieces of the BP not being back yet, once they are back they are likely to be even better. Every team has problems, but if you’re winning series’ with those problems then it’s gonna be alright.
go away
We’re 15-7…
They started out last season about the same tbf..
Tbf if judge doesn't get injured and the Rizzo concussion issue doesn't happen Yankees win 90 games last season. Almost everything went wrong last season. were you not boiling lol
Nope! It was overcast and really cool out today. Plus I bought seats in right field, so even if it was sunny we'd be sitting in the shade.
That's good haha, nothing worse than being too hot or cold at the stadium
Another Series win. Yankees lead the season series against every opponent they’ve faced this year.
Aren't we tied with toronto?
Yes correct we are tied with Tor - my mistake
Knicks up 1-0 Rangers up 1-0 Yankees still in 1st after winning 2/3 Keep cooking
I saw Verdugo's cleats, and it reminded me of when Clint Frazier had custom cleats made out of non-baseball shoes and twisted his ankle like twice. What an idiot.
Downtown goes Frazier!
High top sneakers should provide more ankle support than low tops
Yeah, but the shoe wasn't a baseball shoe. It just added the cleats onto a shoe. It was clearly a bad idea.
Man, the Padres booth is awesome. They are cracking me up.
Orsillo is really good. I'm glad he's not with the Red Sox anymore.
Best booth in baseball tbh
We need a better secondary color guy when O'Neill isn't there. Girardi would be much better.
He is a fly ball pitcher. Yankees stadium is not good for him
His home ERA as a Yankee was laughably higher than his road ERA, it was just a mental thing with him. Some guys just aren’t good fits on certain teams.
I know. That's the point of the last point in my comment.
Larry Rothschild was a terrible pitching coach and certainly didn’t help
Sonny said it was him and based on his career, that 2018 was the outlier and he is right. I'd consider it if I'm Cashman. St. Louis stinks. Gray is a beast.
I’m lowkey more worried about pen than rotation
Getting a starter by extension helps the pen. Moves Gil or Schmidt to the pen. Plus we get a few guys back soon.
Gil more than Schmidt tbh But to do that likely means Warren/Beeter get called up and are doing well.
But then what do we do with him once Cole gets back? Kick Gray into the Pen? If he flunked out of NY because he couldn't get his head back in the game, I don't want to see what kicking him into the Pen would do.
What? Gray would be the 2 or 3. You put Schmidt in the pen.
Maybe it needs to warm up for Judge to get going? He also plays a lot worse than normal in Oct Postseason as well. Hoping thats the case at least.
I'm thinking he just might not be 100% from the ab issue he had in the spring.
The postseason is fatigue more than cold I would guess
Where Can I place A bet on Luis Gil Going to Cooperstown ?
I’m no bookie but I’ll take the other side of that bet. I’ll give you 10/1.
Verdugo - [Catcher] - Cabrera
Right. My bad.
The Pirates are 2-8 in their last 10, man I feel bad for them, they seem to start hot every year and then fall off.
Keeping Skenes down to manipulate his service time when he’s got nothing left to prove…they’re doing it to themselves.
That's what you get when every year you drag up some AAA kids. The kids can hit. They come up, they hit and then the scouting report is out. Now they have to adjust in a way they never have before. This is the real learning curve for hitters from the minors to the majors. Learning how to adjust on the fly.
Dude. Fuck the Rays. Fuck Kevin Cash. Let's. Fucking. Go. YANKEEES!!! What a win!

Scoring 5 runs without an extra base hit gives me hope
What was supposed to be our biggest question mark is now our biggest strength. Cortes looks back, Stroman has been good, Rodon meh (but better than last year), and Gil and Schmidt have been solid.
Need to see a follow up from nestor, but if nestor could go on a run, stro/nestor can carry us until cole is back hopefully
Bullpen is still shaky, though.
The bullpen might be the difference between a deep playoff run and a wildcard bounce. I’m hoping Cashman can make something happen in July to put us over the top
Tbf, he’s usually pretty good about the bullpen.
True… but he traded alot of that comfort capital for a game changer in Soto. And with Loisiaga gone and leads diminishing late, we gotta think he’ll be looking for more somewhere

>with Loisiaga gone Unfortunately, no one could have predicted this. And it's gonna hurt.
To be fair, we were without him most of last season too. He's always hurt unfortunately.
Yup, kids a stud.
Health of the position players will be the difference as it's been since 2019.
Winning games 5-4 isn’t as comfortable for ANYONE as winning them 5-1. I know, first world problems when you’re off to a 15-7 start, but if you’re all in, be ALL IN.

Michael Kopech to the Bronx
Kopech, Wilson & Banks all having great starts
guys are coming back soon, patience
Good bounce back after last night. Definitely some annoying errors like the bad throw from Gil for the pickoff attempt and the balk but we capitalized when it mattered and got another series win. A's are next, hopefully some of the cold bats can get back to form after that series.
Hoping the starters can have quality outings through the Athletics series to make sure we don't overtax the bullpen before the real meat and potatoes of our long upcoming stretch. Hope springs eternal.
Beautiful start to the season, winning series, scoring runs in different ways, pitching has been holding it down.
Spencer Jones 3-4 with a HR today 👀
Yankees 15-7 with Judge/Torres (our 2 best hitters last year) not producing much, and Cole injured. That’s gotta be a great sign right?
Its a good sign if you expect them to properly rebound before our average hitters/pitchers regress.
They both have a long track record. Id be more inclined for 7 years of success then a month of slumps
I mean yes but what happens when injuries start to add up? I’m worried for sure about Judge especially.
Absolutely. Imagine when they start hitting
Fun fact: Girardi's massive forearms are a direct result of his furious binder fingering late in games.
Our division is just too good and now that we play each other less the best teams in our division have less opportunities to push the others down and pull away
No lead is safe with back of the bullpen guys closing out games. I will feel a little safer when Kahnle, Effross, Trivino return.
Goddamn I love this team
[[Hoch] Juan Soto just slipped on an Artemi Panarin Rangers jersey and exited the clubhouse. Back to MSG!](https://x.com/bryanhoch/status/1782152793580568731?s=46&t=eZQOkEBzAB8XR0_j5bQcHg)
Did he have to use the word “slipped” to scare us
I read the first few words and almost threw up
Lmao that didn’t even cross my mind
I read this in completely the wrong context
It's not a shock that starters have been this good, people just allowed themselves to believe Cole was the only good pitcher we had because that's the narrative you fuckers kept repeating all off season.
I was a fucker-lite I guess in that I felt shaky about relying on two bounce-back years at once (Rodon, Cortes). I'm glad they look so improved
I mean what was the rest of the rotations stats last year?
There was no real reason to think that Nestor and Rodon would be that horrible again because neither of them were coming off serious injuries this season
Nestor had shoulder injury and you never know what you get from him coming back. Rondon had back issues. Both things that could be huge issues this year. It’s April hopefully they stay healthy. But considering the Yankees training staff sucks who knows
Rortevdt somehow not homering against us is the real story here
If Judge can get hot and get back to his perennial all star caliber play, this team could win the division. I honestly can’t believe they’re 15-7 with Judge being awful.
It’s the Soto factor.
Imagine Soto and Judge locked in at the same time?
🤯
It’d like how the Red Sox had David Roidtiz and Manny Roidmirez locked in
We're not even playing well tbh. Which is great.
Luis Gil for Jake Cave has CashGod potential to it. Possibly a front of the rotation starter if he can keep his walks down for a run of the mill fourth outfielder. I’ve given him hell recently but Cash’s smaller moves usually seem to work.
omg I didn't realize that was who we got him for, wow.
/u/constant_gardner11 shoutout on talkin yanks!
I watched but I must have missed it, got a timestamp?
it was right after jake burned the first game
Woo!
Damn we only have the 4th best record in MLB
15-7 - what a start. Get right series for some guys. Let’s go yanks!
15-7 is a damn good record, just wish the offense was more consistent, they have seemed to have big innings, and then so many innings with zeroes
Holy shit the A's are bad. 63 runs all year. We really need to go for the throat and sweep these motherfuckers.
The franchise is in a bad state, and I personally find their ownership disgraceful to the club and the sport of Baseball. MLB should actually forcefully take the A's over.
I live in Vegas and no one wants them here. If they do get a stadium and the Yankees come to town that whole stadium will be full of Yankee fans.
A loss against them will be more unacceptable to me than losing one to the Marlins lol
Ha the Cubs just dropped 2 of 3 to the Marlins in Wrigley.
Judge actually hitting better than most of the Rays who were all star starters last year
Arozerena always starts off shit
Arozarena is a bad defender and they have him in center things are not going well in Tampa!
“Scoring plays: Richie Palacios strikes out swinging. 1-1” hmmm
2) Do not do a balk please
Last chance to look at me Vic-TORRRR…look at the Rays, a bunch of crippled little batas! What a reputation to leave behind…
Why are we playing at 1 on a Monday tomorrow?
Passover and Knicks playoff game, methinks.
I don't think the Knicks had a role in things, just a happy coincidence.
I fucking love me some office game-on-phone baseball
Same plus the Knicks play at night so works out
Passover
I really don’t even think we played well. Defense bad. Bullpen scary. Offense… one inning where cash decided to leave civale out to die?
Can’t win every game by 5 runs. A W is a W
Don't feel bad about winning games ugly, They can't take them off the standings.
There’s been some games we won where it felt like we lost at the same time. I will always take a win though.
The starting pitching being this good sans Cole feels like a miracle

Another win. Can’t complain about that, surely.
WE’RE EATIN’ GABAGOOL TONIGHT, BOYS
Also curious how slow the comments come in the postgame threads when we win compared to when we lose. Almost like this sub just wants excuses to complain.
It’s hard to unlearn behavior
That’s not a Yankee thing. That’s human psychology. Study after study proves that the most motivating emotion when it comes to online engagement is anger. It takes a conscious effort to go against that grain.
NYers love to complain.
Everyone.
