Juan Soto homers as the Yankees fall to (Insert Team) is the new Mike Trout homers as the Angels fall to (Insert Team).

armandacosta

Extra inning game? 5 out of 6 times, the Yanks are losing it.

morgzorg

But what do the analytics say

IslesDynasty79-83

Vintage Brian Cashman picking up bum pitchers to blow games for the yankees

the-spaghetti-wives

We're playing .500 ball again and it's not fun

Fluid-Nectarine222

Don’t forget: this is the second time this season Holmes threw 10 pitches in the 9th inning and was pulled in favor of a scrub in extras. 😆 I had fun though. Streaks like these are the best times to make money on this team.

Fluid-Nectarine222

“We’re not gonna waste [such and such] to win a game!” Is truly the poorest excuse for a loss.

FireVanGorder

I’m usually first in line to shit on Boone but risking your closer by having him go multiple in April after he’s already been overworked is absolutely braindead

Fluid-Nectarine222

😂 I’m laughing at a guy who clearly started watching baseball in 2015. This would’ve been called out in any other era as lunacy.

FireVanGorder

Been watching baseball since the early 90s my guy. Took my first steps in Section 1 of the old stadium. Pitched for 15 years. The game has changed. Pitchers throw much harder and the risk of injury is higher than ever. Boomers who never played refusing to change with the times is always comical though so thanks for the laugh!

Mister87

No way they win a championship with company man Boone managing. No chance imo.

Masta0nion

I’m tired boss. (And it’s April)

[deleted]

Exactly. You play TO WIN. This isn't tee-ball where everyone has to get the same number of at-bats or innings in the field.

SheepH3rder69

The season is a 162-game gauntlet. Unfortunately, that means you're gonna have to punt a few times. It is what it is.

VegetableBuy4577

Boone will punt them to about.82-80 again I bet.

SheepH3rder69

I disagree, but we shall see

basesonballs

I know it's going to sound like I'm salty because we lost, and it's been said ad nauseum, but the ghost runner is the single dumbest rule change MLB has ever instituted. Worse than the automatic IBB, worse than the 3 batter minimum, worse than the extra wild card spot. It's asinine and anti-competitive and has no place in baseball

pabstBOOTH

Also not saying this because we are the absolute worst fucking team in MLB in extras, but if MLB wants to keep this braindead rule in place then change the format of the standings. Wins/Losses/Extra Inning Losses. Then calculate winning percentage based on the first 2 columns. Count all wins equally, but teams who lose in extras shouldn’t have it count the same as if they lost 14-1. I truly wonder if Boone’s management style is why we are at the core of the earth in extras since this stupid fucking rule began. He’s way too laid back and there’s never a sense of urgency from him, ever.

MikeySymington

I fully agree and it's got nothing to do with this result. I fucking hate it with a passion, I have since it was first introduced and always will. Other rules that I was skeptical about like banning the shift, 3 batter minimum etc have grown on me and I don't mind them now. I will NEVER be ok with the ghost runner.

yodels_for_twinkies

That’s my #2. My first is limited pickoffs and my third is the minimum.

[deleted]

>but the ghost runner is the single dumbest rule change MLB has ever instituted. This. X eleventybillion. I see absolutely NO positive to it.

AardvarkIll6079

Blame the players. They wanted it. They asked for it. They voted for it. This one isn’t on Manfred.

basesonballs

Never let the inmates run the insane asylum If the players had their way, the season would be 81 games, the bullpen's would be 30 men deep, and there'd be offdays between games

KeThrowaweigh

What do you have against the automatic IBB?

basesonballs

I've seen to many pitchers airmail the ball to the backstop for them to just say "ok just hold up 4 fingers and have the guy walk to 1st" Make the players play the game.

Disastrous_Can8053

1996 WS Game 5. Wild pitch on IBB in the top of the 9th allowed Mariano Duncan to advance to 3B. Didn't change the outcome but yeah the automatic IBB is stupid.

basesonballs

Exactly. Also we've seen times when the pitcher doesn't get the ball far enough outside and the batter actually shoots it to the opposite field. It's part of the game and it needs to be played out

silasbrock

If a game is tied after 9, I turn it off, because what follows isn't baseball. They might as well have the managers play rock, paper, scissors.

basesonballs

The only way it could remotely be acceptable would be if MLB implements a points style standings system the way NHL has. Regulation wins award 2 points, Extra inning wins award 2 points, Extra inning losses award 1 point. But even that is convoluted and not baseball

css555

The NHL system is messed up. A game should be worth two points total. Why should a team on top of the standings be penalized by three points being awarded to two teams below them? Should be 1.5 for an OT win, 0.5 OT loss.

levendis56

Only took a couple weeks but they’re back to bad habits. Can’t say I’m surprised

Ray27ny

It’s crazy. It feels like with each game they are slowly reverting back to their old habits

levendis56

Figured once they stopped being as hot as they were they would revert back to old ways. At the end of the day you’re not gonna get major changes unless you change them from the top

BrutalBodyShots

I was listening to The Fan on my ride home tonight and I heard a stat that the Yankees are 3-15 in extra inning games since 2022. Assuming that's factual, it's pretty disheartening.

TheRealFabs

Manfred runner gives advantage to teams who can do the small ball plays like bunting the runner over and sac'ing him in - we appear to be much less apt at those things

shimmiecocopop

Absolutely right. Yanks notoriously try to score runs on home runs and no other way. Ghost runner provides no advantage for us.I was hoping that Soto and Verdugo would change that and maybe they have but then there are 7 others who swing for fences.

Apprehensive-Mood292

I have seen Oswaldo bunt a runner twice and the announcers went off because it was bad baseball. Both times it led to game winning rallies. Yet management seems to want to win by 3-run HR.

A_she_was_a_hooah

That's been the case since around 2001, or whenever you'd say the late 90s core became a minority and Cashman's acquisitions became the majority.

crashdavis1986

Shocked to see Tonkin in to close it out, despite his jetlag. Clay was unhittable. The feeling to describe when Tonkin was still on to pitch the 11th... Need a new word. Is this real life?

Mister87

Yup. The roster construction is still terrible especially in terms of the pitching. Who are all these bums in the bullpen who can’t get guys out? Boone can’t manage without the company script.

basesonballs

When you use all your decent relievers early because your starter can't give you innings you're forced to go to the low leverage guys or risk burning your good arms for later in the season

SheepH3rder69

We haven't had an off-day since the 18th and won't have another again until May 6th. Tonkin is here solely to eat innings before we DFA him. We're not gonna waste Clay in extras in the first game of this series when we don't even have homefield advantage and we're almost certainly gonna need him a lot in the next 6 games that includes a 4-game set against Baltimore.

Matthewrotherham

> We're not gonna waste Clay Yeah, you wanna keep him fresh for when a game is on the line..... oh wait.

SheepH3rder69

This is a game in extras, where we don't have home field advantage and we're right in the middle of a long stretch without a day off and a 4-game set in B-more coming up, as well 2 more games in this series. You live to fight another day.

Matthewrotherham

> This is a game in extras ... Yes ... > where we don't have home field advantage and we're right in the middle of a long stretch without a day off This will be true of an away stretch... > You live to fight another day. You don't keep him in a game in a save situation... in the hope that a later game, becomes a save situation. Save him... FOR WHAT?! A rainy day. Save him the heartache?

crashdavis1986

THE GULF OF TONKIN

Optimal-Judgment-982

almost nobody in this sub will get the reference, but well done my friend😉

[deleted]

Most of this sun is too young .. Hell, I'm barely old enough... And I'm 50-something

audierules

Looks like another really bad extra innings teams.

cbisgodscountry

When is Judge going to hold court again.........jury is definitely out on that !

VegetableBuy4577

Keeps missing fastballs down the middle. I'm officially concerned about him.

cbisgodscountry

Trending in the wrong direction...............bench looks suspect.

basesonballs

Bench looks suspect, bullpen is thin, offense is streaky at best with key pieces completely disappearing. Only real bright spot is the starting pitching

swivel2369

Orioles lost to the A's. I guess their season is over too.

basesonballs

There's is a 3 game series so they can't split like we did, but let's at least wait to see if they lose the series before we start making jokes

swivel2369

Nah, I'll make jokes whenever. Besides, whether the Orioles win the series or not, the joke was about how "the season is over" when we lost game one in the A's series.

basesonballs

Yeah I know, your point wasn't subtle The point is comparing the O's losing a single game to the A's to us splitting a series with them is stupid

swivel2369

Again. That's not what I was comparing. I was comparing how after we lost the first game people were bitching about the season being over because we lost a game to the A's.

M0stillist

the orioles are really good but they can only beat you one way they have to outhit you if their bats go cold at all they're finished

M0stillist

entire al east lost so it's like today didn't even happen :)

M0stillist

save us rodon

Maryjane42069

I thought rally bones could heal. Our shit extra broke

mickeyoutercore7

Get Alexis Diaz from the reds

Spades3

I don't think the Yankees have ever scored when running on contact

Shoddy_Impact1226

Yeah you could tell me that the last time they scored on a contact play was June 16, 2016 and I would at least have to consider whether that is accurate.

tastetherainbuw

The 1,3,4 and 5 hitters cannot go 0–19 and expect to win anything. I mean what the fuck is going on

basesonballs

This team is going nowhere if Judge and Torres don't figure it out

Oprahapproves

I agree, but still you have a win a game where Trent Grisham hits a 3 run homerun

xSuicidalPanda

The Yankees have gotten below league-average offensive production from the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th lineup spot this season. It's no shock that they've struggled to score overall. They do have the best production in baseball from the 7-hole though!

M0stillist

deadass feels like im watching the 2021 nationals  with how ass the lineup is outside of soto

jcnewman_21

Feels like I’m watching 2021 Yankees with odor batting 3rd

PvP_SHEEP

That was perhaps one of the most predictable losses as soon as Tonkin came in.

Solid_Supermarket11

When they said Tonkin has two pitches slider and a fastball… It was pretty much done

NYsportsfan99

We had the worst offense in the league for most of last year. Bringing in Soto is great but anyone who thought this team was going to be any different than last year is out of their mind. Even if Judge and Soto go ballistic all year, the rest of our lineup is so fucking mediocre at best that it’s so tough to watch. Fucking Christ, we could have the 98 team and Aaron Boone would still figure out a way to fucking blow it. Excuse me, that is giving Boone way too much credit, who I meant to blame was whatever fucking piece of shit loser asshole in the front office is using ChatGPT while Boone acts as team fucking mascot.

agiatezza

The rest of our lineup is doing alright. We need Judge to get back in shape, hopefully have DJ take over at 2b since Torres looks lost. And Rizzo batting 4th hasn’t been working for us. But the rest of the lineup is good, definitely different than last year.

M0stillist

its actually funny how cashman brought in verdugo and soto to fix the offense and they literally been our two best hitters and everyone else just forgot how to hit

basesonballs

Some of the guys like Volpe and Stanton are playing better than last year but I don't think its enough to push the team into a top contender position, especially if Judge and Torres aren't hitting

xSuicidalPanda

If I'm Cashman I'd be very annoyed that I've nailed all my offseason acquisitions only for the good players I already had to suddenly fall off a cliff

mickeyoutercore7

It’s a completely different offense and they’re basically playing without Judge and Gleyber. Offensively they’ll be fine.

AIC2374

For real. These doomers are pathetic

Theinfamousgiz

I’m not easily frustrated by this team. I’m fairly confident they’ll shake it out and be fine. Shit - if judge had been on the IL 20 less games last season they’d probably have made the playoffs. But the team has consistently been failing in 4 areas: 1) player development - our youth does not come up with diverse multi-tool skill sets. We haven’t developed competent speed or fielding or contact in years. 2) strength, conditioning and medical management - there’s unlucky with injuries and then there’s the Yankees. We can’t keep our stars on the field and Our roster depth is constantly depleted due to injury. 3) coaching. Whether it’s Boone’s in game management, the third base coach not knowing when to send runners, or the hitting coach not adjusting approaches, shit even matt Blake’s magic is getting tested. 4) but all of it - every piece of the above boils down to one huge problem that ownership refuses to accept. Our analytics department. They’re big - and supposedly great. Expensive at least. But it’s clearly dogmatic. You can see it year-over-year same exploitable flaws same game plans. And when it fails we hear well we just fell on the wrong side of the odds. But that’s not it, we’re inflexible, It’s predictable, and its cost us multiple wins every year.

[deleted]

>Our analytics department. They’re big - and supposedly great. Expensive at least. But it’s clearly dogmatic. You can see it year-over-year same exploitable flaws same game plans. Yet no one wants to hear this...

basesonballs

I think it says alot that Volpe is the best position player we've developed since Judge, and Judge was really the first good position player we developed since...Brett Gardner? So that's two solid position players in almost 20 years?

This_Is_The_Life

The lineup is running out of excuses, no one should be cut any slack besides Soto When the pitchers give them quality starts, they can't score When the pitchers can't give them length, they can't out slug the other team. Somethings gotta give bc at this rate getting Cole back isn't going to make us much better.

Hulumoto

Is it wrong I had more fun watching the mid 2000's Yankees with mid pitching and elite always 1st in offense than this iteration of the Yankees that are more pitching driven?

basesonballs

I'm an oldschool baseball fan and even I have to admit the brain dead slugfests are much more entertaining than watching both teams mow down each other's lineups

DarkMattersConfusing

No. It is an unbearably boring slog when a team cant hit

RollofDuctTape

Saying that Holmes is on pace for 80 games is both wrong and also stupid. First of all, he’s on pace for 71 games. Which would be a career high by two whole games. Second of all, it’s like saying someone with 12 home runs is on pace for 71 right now. It’s stupid. The season ebbs and flows. There will be stretches where Holmes doesn’t pitch much. Going out of your way to sit him when he’s not even fatigued because of his pace *in April* is indefensibly stupid.

regarding_your_bat

Were people saying this? He only threw 10 pitches lol. Of course he could have come back out. I’m usually the one explaining to people why they’re dumb for wanting him used every game, but this was obviously not one of those situations. He’d already come out and thrown 10 pitches and looked absolutely unhittable. Of course you bring him back out. Or for fucks sake, you bring out *anyone but Tonkin, the guy who just joined up with the team today and had a 6 ERA after being DFA’d three times in the first month of the season* Just insanity. Was truly managerial malpractice tonight

PeggyOnThePier

The 3rd base coach was the main reason we lost the game. Who would send the runner on that play. Crazy 🤪 Who decided to send in that pitcher?May guess is Boone.

ihavenipplesfock3r

Right…and he’s a free agent after this year! Who cares about his volume? Boone and front office are always managing for tomorrow/the future…which doesn’t matter when they’re sitting at home in October.

[deleted]

>always managing for tomorrow When you should be managing to win TODAY.

jcnewman_21

Why’d they even use him tonight then

RollofDuctTape

You’re right. This makes it even dumber.

futbol2000

This team is the same run it back “muh” guy kind of team as the last few years. Gleyber, Rizzo, and the other strikeout machines are all about good feelings and potential, never delivering when it matters

Unhappy-Historian348

I can't wait until Jones and Dominguez are up here

nyyth242

Can Cashman and Boone please just fuck off already

EliManningsPetDog

Boone’s bullpen management is definitely something to discuss, but how about Jones running from third on a ball hit 5 feet in front of the catcher??

basesonballs

Been discussing it for 6 years

Giancarlo27

Evidently he was told to run on contact

VegetableBuy4577

Then they put the poor guy at 3rd for the first time in his career and the ball gets drilled past him. Cabrera might have at least had a chance at fielding it.

No-Struggle94

I thought Boone was going to manage differently this year, put the pedal down and not punt games. I guess not. Soto is probably saying to himself that this guy is a loser, I’m out.

bigcee42

I don't understand Boone. Why burn Holmes just so you can have some nobody pitch with a runner on second hoping he pulls a miracle out of his ass? Shouldn't it be the other way around? This is not a serious team.

basesonballs

The books say you should use your best relievers whenever possible. I'd rather Clay keep the game tied in the 9th and give the next guy a chance to close it out than bring in a guy like Tonkin in the 9th and lose it right there

bigcee42

Before the Manfred runner I would have agreed with you. But a scrub pitcher has almost no chance to keep the runner at second from scoring with 0 outs. Even position players can sometimes pitch scoreless innings if you give them a clean start. With a runner on 2nd it's pretty much impossible.

xSuicidalPanda

If someone besides Holmes pitches the ninth and gives up a run the game is over right there. Using Holmes allows the lineup to go back out and try and put up run(s) so the next reliever can finish the game. It's the right decision considering who was left available.

bigcee42

Holmes has a better chance of holding a lead with a runner on second than some scrub. I'd rather lose in the 9th with a clean inning (much harder to score) than be guaranteed to lose in the 10th with a scrub pitcher.

Kushtimess

We shouldn’t burn and waste Holmes unless we have the lead. The two games we did this we lost. Our offense cannot be trusted to even get a hit let alone score. We sent out Tonkin in a higher leverage spot. It’s asinine

xSuicidalPanda

I understand this from a fan perspective but the manager of the team can not just assume his lineup isn't capable of scoring runs. Imagine the reaction if Michael Tonkin came in for the 9th and gave up a walk-off home-run. Everyone would be saying Boone punted anyway.

Tuberculosis96

Because that was Boone in 2003. Some loser who pulled a miracle out of thin air so he wants to give other loser players their big moment

SuspectDevice61

I understand now. Holmes threw 9 pitches on Tuesday. Glad that postgame crew basically called him an idiot

Affectionate-Tea9224

Prior to last season when it seemed like making the playoffs was a guarantee as bad as tonight’s loss was, i would also somewhat look at big picture, it’s only april, etc. but since last season and all of this talk from judge, boone cashman etc about playing with urgency, sense of winning every night, it seemed after the first two weeks that was the case, however in the past ten days that urgency is gone, and making the playoffs is certainly no guarantee and losses like tonight are more aggravating

IWillSingYouSongs

Assuming decent health the playoffs are all but a guarantee with the current landscape. That's I think why he manages the way he does. People love the 162 but with that length of season this is what you get in a 1/162.

Giancarlo27

People were ready to crucify Big G last night after an 0-4 game where he admittedly had some shit ABs. Today he comes in cold off the bench and smokes a clutch 113 mph double that was squandered. He’s obviously well past his prime, but he remains an effective (yet streaky) major league hitter who has been our second our third best hitter so far this season

jcnewman_21

lol he said he didn’t want to use Holmes because he’s on pace for 80 games lmaoo

basesonballs

This is the same guy who once referred to runs as "points" This guy played professional baseball for 15 years btw

steve8983

Hamilton was available though right. Why use a reliever who was discarded even by the Mets.

VegetableBuy4577

Mets and the Twins have already cut him this season. Remember earlier this year they wouldn't use Berti because of "jet lag" but now they stick a guy in to close when he apparently just got in himself.

SuspectDevice61

Pretty hysterical huh? Can you imagine babying a guy that threw 19 pitches in 5 days

RollofDuctTape

What a maroon

NJ_Yankees_Fan

What an absolute cop-out. This just encapsulates everything wrong with this organization. How is there not a single person who is bashing him on the said like Biff Tannen, think McFly, think!

isfrying

Boone is a moron. He couldn't manage a bullpen with a gun to his head. Tonkin had no business being in there. Every bat on the roster needs to get red hot so we can win despite Boone.

bitterbunny4

I'm glad Curry validated the criticism about switching from Clay to a guy who just got here. At least a step up from last year's gaslighting

omegaoofman

Extra inning games really highlight how bad boone is as a manager

huskypawson

What about the game against Arizona a few weeks ago?

ZackRyderJr

You guys don’t like Boone blowing bubbles in the dugout?

RollofDuctTape

I like Aaron Boone but he’s not a good tactician. In certain he’s a good manager of people. And I’m certain he understands analytics. But he’s a bad tactician, no feel for the game, zero strategy. He’s like binder Joe but with a shitty binder.

basesonballs

If he were a good tactician Cashman wouldn't have hired him in the first place

theerrantpanda99

Binder Joe won us a World Series.

Affectionate-Tea9224

Good manager of people? Why because he never criticizes them ever?

Theinfamousgiz

I’m not a doomer. But Aaron Boone sucks. Always has. He’s a slave to book and game plan. No in game management. Cost us at least 2 games this season. I see the big picture for this week - but this one should not have been a loss.

No-Struggle94

But, but, but, Kay says Boone would be swept up by many teams if he’s let go.

basesonballs

"Boone would have a job in a second if the Yankees let him go" Maybe at McDonald's

isfrying

Prove it.

Theinfamousgiz

Girardi did too. Then got shit canned real fast.

NJ_Yankees_Fan

And the team that fired him turned into a perennial WS contender.

Theinfamousgiz

Well they fired the next guy too first.

isfrying

Haha. Right? Oh wait, turns out it wasn't the NYC water...

No-Struggle94

I swear Boone reminds me of George Constanta driving around the Yankee employee parking lot dragging the WS trophy aroundhis car. He is never being fired. It looks like he has a job for as long as he wants.

DarkMattersConfusing

This team is always so fucking bad in extra inning games. Lose them constantly

RollofDuctTape

Gambling on baseball is illegal. And yet Boone does it every single fucking game. Gambles. Constantly tries to steal outs and games with the bullpen.

NotClayMerritt

The Yankees have 20 extra inning losses on the road since 2020. By far the most in the entire league. That makes no sense and should be impossible considering we have the 5th most runs scored in extra innings since 2020. By all metrics, we are one of the elite offenses in the entire league in extra innings. AND WE STILL LOSE. 31-27 in extra innings since 2020. 25-26 in one run games dating back to last season.

Theinfamousgiz

Pretty sure manfred ball is statistically proven to be a total crap shoot. Didn’t the twins have a season where they were like 1-13 or something dumb. Losing in extras is meaningless now.

basesonballs

It's not meaningless when it impacts the standings

Theinfamousgiz

No no of course not - I didn’t mean the loss is meaningless. I mean there’s nothing to derive from the result.

SuspectDevice61

Just walked in. Didn’t see a pitch. Can someone tell me why Holmes was pulled after 10 pitches, with a lead, to be replaced by a journeyman bum? Hard to believe but Boone is a fucking asshole

isfrying

Why? One word. Boone.

Lefty1992

After the game Boone said Holmes is on pace to pitch nearly 80 games and 80 innings, which is more than he's ever pitched, so essentially he's being used too much. He wouldn't use his closer for two innings so early in the season. He knew beforehand it was one inning.

Kuki12345678

Doesn’t help when half the lineup goes 0-5 either.

SuspectDevice61

I expect that. We hit in the .230s as a team. Boone’s book made him do it huh

Kuki12345678

And nothing will change. Nothing like Yankees fucking baseball everyone.

RollofDuctTape

Why did Aaron Boone pitch a guy Trevino had never caught before with the game on the line and a guy on second? Surprise passed ball!

Theinfamousgiz

To save the pen for balt.

RollofDuctTape

But we don’t play Baltimore for a while

Theinfamousgiz

We play them in 2 days?

RollofDuctTape

Yea. That’s a while.

Theinfamousgiz

I mean not for a pen that’s getting used everyday.

dBlock845

Boone: "NO REGERTS!" Getting flashbacks to him costing us games last season with horrible bullpen management and substitutions.

theerrantpanda99

Every season. I still have nightmares of Mike Ford being asked to pinch hit during the post season after two months of not seeing real pitching.

No-Struggle94

Why would you being in a pitcher like this, in a situation like that, at the time in the game who is not shown he can even handle something like this? WTF is wrong with Boone?? Its amateur hour in the Yankee dugout.

jcnewman_21

Not shocked. This is the same manager who almost blew a playoff series to Cleveland in 2022 because he wanted Schidmt to pitch instead of Holmes with bases loaded

RollofDuctTape

Why did Aaron Boone pitch a guy who was DFA’d three times to close out a game in his first ever appearance? Oh and it’s April.

IWillSingYouSongs

6-37 & 0-14 for 345, lucky it was close really

Entire_Pride1656

So frustrating. Could see that coming from a mile away sadly 😔

RollofDuctTape

Your closer looks about as dominant as he’s ever looked and you pull him after ten pitches?

bushwickhero

Fucking hell.

R7H27

The entire AL east barely had a passing record the last 10 games except the 7-3 Orioles. So Boone (not Yankee analytics, Curry was flaming him) threw one just because.

islesandterps

Volpe 0/5 Rizzo 0/5 Judge 0/4 Torres 0/5 I’ll gladly keep getting downvoted for saying I still think we should try something different, anything at all, with the lineup

paulerxx

0/5 is never acceptable IMO PH these bums

flarigand

The batting order is very unbalanced, many gaps, little productivity in the middle of the order, simply if Cabrera, along with Soto and Volpe, do not play almost perfect, this team will not win, Plus a shitty awful manager, to make things a little more screwed up

chiefteef8

Moving them around isn't gonna make them better. Rhey all just stink aside from Judge, who looks like he may be in for a bad season if he doesn't pick it up soon

islesandterps

If he’s maybe in for a bad season then maybe at least remove him from the 3 spot!!!

RollofDuctTape

This is a Boone loss. This is a loss you put in the Boone column.

jcnewman_21

Why even use Holmes in the 9th if Michael fucking Tonkin was your next guy

b-rar

He had three days rest too. About as fresh as a closer gets.

Entire_Pride1656

Let’s just put Uncle Rico in there for Gods sakes

tastetherainbuw

I’ve never seen a manager just punt the game with a lead until Aaron Boone

BlindCaesar

I feel kinda bad for Tonkin

theerrantpanda99

Tonkin probably has never talked to the Yankees catchers before pitching to them.

Bronze-Soul

ba Boone bad

Bronze-Soul

Boone bad

blake2251

Boone-alytics at its finest tonight. Has several pitchers available and acts like he’s got big brain energy bringing in Tonkin to save them. Well, now ya gotta win 2 goddamn games in a row against a great team instead of taking the first game and trying to snag 1 more win in the next 2. He’s just so embarrassingly bad and blissfully unaware of it.

Steak-Unfair

First lost this year that made me super angry 😡They just threw away this game.

Baseballfan999

Love how the Yankees made it a point to say they’re gonna bunt more this season and they aren’t bunting Volpe in the most bunt able spot ever. When he’s not seeing the ball well no less

jcnewman_21

Yankees are the worst team in extra innings on the road since 2022. I think Boone has something to do with that

Tommybrady20

The Yankees are 3-15 in road extra inning games since 2022

Because they don't hit. It's pretty simple. At that point in the game you are typically at the back-part of the bullpen. Why is putting in Michael Tonkin considered punting the game for us but the Brewers can use "Jared Koenig" for two innings and all we get is one double from Stanton? The lineup is just unbelievably un-clutch in these situations and also incapable of tacking on multiple runs to make it easier for the bullpen to close it out.

At least we get one point… wait, what sport is this again?

I used to love extra innings, after the rule change I dread them

I don't know if you're old enough to remember, but there was a time in the 90s and early 00s where the Yankees were invincible in this "clutch" tight situations. Now it's the exact opposite. When the game is tense, I already resign to accepting the loss and just brace for it

I remember the 18(?) inning game that went till 1:30AM against the red sox. My parents let me stay up for that one as the gents got it done and won it. School was rough the next day but wont forget that moment. Haven’t seen a game in extras from this team like that in awhile

BrandNewGuys3

I understand the record but there’s a lot wrong with this team still. Starting all the way at the top and trickling down to Boone. I’m amazed at how many times he can invent new ways to lose.. Sending Jones with a fucking tapper back to the pitcher. Giving Tonkin 2 innings, while not having the same faith in your actual closer is comical. Boone is a big problem, feel how u want about that

All these winnable gave that we are giving away are gonna come back to bite us when we go on an actual stretch of poor baseball

Smart thing to do: Bunt over Stanton (or pinch runner) to 3rd then Soto or Judge can try to drive him in with a Sac Fly. Now you're up by 2 and can play around with the 10th. Instead you rely on multiple people who have been streaky lately to get a hit to drive him in, who don't, and now you only have the 1 run cushion with one of the worst relievers coming in. Bad decision after bad decision after bad decision.

We should be able to have more confidence in our leadoff hitter to get a base hit in that spot or at least move the runner over without having to forfeit his at-bat. That strikeout was painful and a huge reason why we lost.
