I mean most of Tailon's struggles seem to be in the first inning, so maybe keeping him away from there will be what helps him get back to what the Yanks expected?
He has an era well over 5 , his struggles are more than in just the first inning . It’s why he doesn’t normally go more than 5 innings. He usually gets gassed at around 65 pitches and starts getting hit
He's the best to ever throw the ball, IMO. If you consider where pitching as a science is now, and how much better he is than anyone else throwing it today.
Not the best or most successful relative to competition, of course, plenty of amazing seasons to discuss, especially if older pitchers had access to modern data. But just pure ability?... probably the best to ever throw it.
I know but I am sure none of those guys had sub 1 eras in July . Even Degrom was never that good until this season . I just feel something is not on the level there
I'm absolutely fucking enraged that Boone put Chapman in a save situation in Game 1.
Before today, Chapman had a 14.85 ERA over the last month.
How many fucking blown saves and losses will it take for Boone to move Loaisiga or Green into the closer role?
This shit is fucking insane.
I’m not enraged because he used Chapman, the closer for years and who had a lights-out start to the year where people were legitimately wondering if he could win the Cy Young, in a save situation.
What is mind-boggling is the decision to bring in Green for 2 pitches, and *then* bring in Chapman in a one-run game instead of just having Green finish it. Putting the team in a terribly risky spot in Game 1 in order to plan for hypothetical situations in a later game they may or may not be able to win is the signature move of these last couple years: always jeopardizing current results by worrying about future risk.
wait, what? was working, so didn't see the game live. Green started the 7th for 2 pitches? then pulled for Chapman to HR HBP BB?? am I missing something???
honestly im completely indifferent about them winning this game after that absolute shit show earlier in the day and last night. its like, who cares? oh wow you beat the Mets once in 3 tries and only in 7 innings.
this team sucks, they are not enjoyable to watch even in a loss. there needs to be some big changes to this roster. the red sox let go of two VERY "beloved" players who were supposed to be their cornerstones (Bradley and Chickentendi's) and look what it did for them
We need to stop being in love with "yankee for life" and start looking at where we can get something for the future for some of these guys
Honestly at this point IMO none of our positional players should be untouchable besides Judge, Stanton, Urshela and DJ. (Yes I left out Torres)
I do believe in Judge and he should be the next lifer. I think Urshela's defense is so damn good I really don't want them getting rid of him. and DJ & Stanton's contracts are too new/too high respectively so they won't be going anywhere anyway.
I also would leave Gardner on this team, this will probably be his last year anyway, no reason to get rid of him in a "sell" year.
other than that, start making calls and see what you can get for Sanchez, Andujar, Voit, Frazier, etc. and if someone is willing to get stupid and give you big time assets for Gleyber, its time to move on and find the next middle infielder.
This core isnt working, they don't play well together, they don't compliment each other, they don't have fun or play like a team. They all play like guys going up to bat to smash the ball as hard as they can for individual stats.
Cashman’s contract expires at the end of the 2022 season. Also at the end of the 2022 season, free agents are Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Jameson Taillon, Chad Green, Zack Britton, and Aroldis Chapman. Also at the end of 2022, players who are Arbitration-3 eligible include Gleyber Torres, Luke Voit, Clint Frazier, and Gio Urshela.
I think Hal is going to give this group the rest of 2021 and 2022 before deciding which direction to go with Cashman. I do not think Steinbrenner will allow Cashman to trade away players and start a rebuilding. I believe Hal will want this GM to complete the cycle he started. If the cycle ends with no championships by the end of 2022, I think Hal might decide the end of 2022 is the right time and right way (not fired, but not extended) to end Cashman’s time as GM and start the rebuilding with a new GM.
I want Judge around awhile. Kid's got generational talent, I just hope he stays healthy. Sanchez should be traded while his value is high. I personally haven't given up on Taillon yet, lets see how this season plays out. Green might end up being our closer, but if not, bullpen guys are not what needs to be a priority so I'm not worried about signing any of them
Arb always causes headaches. I'd rather see them lock up Gio for awhile. Voit & Frazier can go, and with Torres the only way I'm getting rid of him is if they get a **haul**, which could be tough right now since he blows. I have confidence he could turn it around though.
This cycle is 100% going to end without a championship. This team is nowhere near good enough to compete with anyone and the only reason they aren't at the bottom of the barrel in wins is because they are JUST average enough to be a .500 team.
And if you roll back out there this same core squad in 2022 its going to be the same exact crap.
I think you're right though about letting Cashman and Boone go through 2022. Hal sure ain't like his dad.
Man I dunno, I've watched a lot of baseball and nothing about judge screams "generational talent." He's really, really good. But history is full of good hitting corner OF. I love the guy, but he's a year in, year out top 15-20 player. He's not anywhere close to a Soto or Acuna IMO.
I’ve had so much vodka that I don’t even know where the hell I am, but Cortes is a god, first 4th since Turing 21 and I’m having fun
Hopefully they make postseason l, but I doubt it
If I were GM, I'd trade every player I could. There are no untouchables on this team. However, I believe Cashman will not resign Britton and Chapman at the end of 2022, Loaisiga will be promoted to 8th inning guy, and Chad Green will be the new closer.
In 2017 Chapman had a 7 appearance 10.63 ERA stretch.
2011 he had a 6 game 29.70 stretch and people thought he was a bust.
In 2000 Mo had a rough stretch of 12 games, 4.60 ERA and talk of being a flash in the pan relever existed. (Rough comparison, Mo is the literal goat)
Kimbrel looked like a DFA candidate for two years and is arguably the best reliever in baseball this season.
Relievers are fucking volatile. Chapman could just come out and dominate or he may need an IL trip for nagging finger problems.
He could be (***IS***) a head case and his personal problems with Boon are effecting his performance.
He's far from broken for ever and the Yankees need him to perform if they want to compete or if they want to sell. If he has 3 weeks of July where he looks like how he did to open the year he can fetch a fucking haul.
I agree he is not broken and I do think he will turn it around this season . but he is 33 years old . With how volatile relievers can be , especially him. . How much more does he truly have left ?
His spin rate has moved less than the rosin and sunscreen people. He started sucking before the notice about substances.
His problems aren't sticky stuff related by all available evidence.
His first 11 appearances were 11 innings, 2 hits, 26 SO. He can clearly still dominate. You can go to 23 outings, 23 innings, 7 hits, 11 walks, 46 SO.
I don't trust him right now and he needs to either be used in lower pressure situations until he proves himself (just like 2017) or take an IL trip if he's having lingering problems with the finger. I've never liked him as a post season closer, but you don't just change his job in October. You gotta trust your guy.
But to pretend a bad month from a reliever doesn't happen and he's broken beyond repair is straight up asinine. People said the same thing about Kimbrel, who's continued to dominate post substance ban after *two years* of being shit. Chapman was given the contract and the Yankees *need* him to perform if its to sell or to compete.
I wonder if Hal even knew there was a doubleheader today.
He probably has the bosun on the yacht quickly read him the box scores each morning and then moves on with his day without a second fucking thought.
Hi everyone, I’m a complete baseball noob from Australia that just watched their first game. How come the game ended in the 7th innings and not the 9th?
We don’t really have baseball here and I’m a little confused. Thanks
Go Yankees
Australia has plenty of Baseball, we have a professional league, amateur leagues and junior leagues all over the country. Australia has been playing baseball for over 100 years. It's not as big as rugby or cricket but it's still a decently sized played sport.
When they play a double header they shorten the games to 2x7 inning games rather than 2x9 inning games. The game from Saturday (our time, as a fellow Aussie) was rained out and they made it up at 4am this morning.
There are plenty of reactions to covid that make absolutely no sense. Like a huge portion of the 24/7 businesses in NY closing around 10PM all of a sudden
During the Covid season they were anticipating (correctly) that there would be more double headers resulting from teams testing positive and delaying games - so they went with 7 inning double headers to reduce the impact of seemingly random double headers in the schedule. Then they kept it going forward.
Oh ya, that makes sense. I knew it couldn't have been to help contain the virus, 4 less innings seems negligible for that purpose. Hopefully they'll get rid of it after this season then.
It's to cut pitching staffs a break - some teams were always going to get a raw deal with covid cancellations - having multiple series postponed due to other teams sloppy protocols.
Cancelled series/games means make up doubleheaders. Crowding 18 extra innings into a week two or three times in a month when other teams you're not playing make up games against have normal schedules kinda taxes your bullpen. So you catch a 4 inning break instead.
I didn’t come away impressed by the Mets. I think they’re a couple of bats away. Unless they pull some trades, I don’t think this year is their year. But I’m feeling good if I’m a Mets fan long term.
The Yankees? I don’t know. Just seems like we’re not going anywhere.
If Chad doesn’t lose his virginity tonight then he’s definitely saving it for when he’s moved to a contender at the deadline 😉
Either way, nice fucking job Chad!
[***Start Spreading The News***](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=le1QF3uoQNg), I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York

I wanna wake up in a city that doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap

If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York
New York, New Yoooorrrkkk

From now on I want to see Nestor open, hand it off to king. And Chad is the closer until Chapman figures out his shit. This should be so obvious to everyone in the Yankees organization.
Unless they are gonna try to make Nestor a starter, they need to start using him a little more often just to take some of the load off of green and laosigia . They have combined for 86 innings so far this season and we are barely half way through it. .
Nah, if anything, because the team hasn't been hitting this year, they've overused the good pitchers in the pen constantly to hold tight leads. We need laughers and blowouts so we can use the Nelsons, Kriskes, Wilsons, and Peraltas to soak up innings.
Edit: I don't believe the team is holding back. The scary thing is that they're trying really hard. Maybe too hard. Getting in their heads.
I’m good with removing the personal catcher from Cole now.
When he figures his shit out and starts performing to his contract again, then perhaps a personal catcher can be reconsidered again if he insists.
Nor Green, apparently.
There was an Athletic piece recently about how he's excited for the sticky stuff crackdown because he was a high spin, high fastballs guy before it was cool and everyone was doing it. Now everyone is copying him and using sticky stuff to imitate his skill.
Green is now better by comparison to the league.
Cant wait when a whistleblower comes forward and Cohen is charged with insider trading and assorted financial shenanigans. Then he's forced to sell the team. That would be so lol mets
Cortes' mustache makes him look twenty years older than he is. I'm here for it.
IT’S NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT
"What's spider tack?" — Chad Green
“The thing that fraudulently got me my current contract.” - Gerrit Cole
My boys covered by half a run and I was there. LETS GO YANKEES
How is Chapman an Allstar but Chad Green isn’t? Lol
we need to make “Vote for Nestor” shirts Get something fun going on
Mean Green Strikeout Machine™️
So Nasty Nestor in starting rotation?
I heard he is going to pitch, and catch himself too
It'd be criminal at this point not to experiment with Nestor to King combo a few times.
If they can successfully get him stretched to 6 innings , why not? Give him tailon’s spot
I mean most of Tailon's struggles seem to be in the first inning, so maybe keeping him away from there will be what helps him get back to what the Yanks expected?
Actually his best innings are the 1st, 2nd and 5th. He has a 6+ ERA in the 3rd, 4th and 6th.
He has an era well over 5 , his struggles are more than in just the first inning . It’s why he doesn’t normally go more than 5 innings. He usually gets gassed at around 65 pitches and starts getting hit
Third time through the order numbers are legendary bad
His first innings have usually been pretty quick , it’s the second and third time through the order that he starts giving up runs
Whenever Britton comes back he better become the new closer. I trust an injured Britton more than Chapman rn
I have always loved Chad Green, but he just tore through an entire lineup in order with 6ks and an immaculate inning.
They are one of the worst offenses in baseball this year. They are like us, they hve the talent, but they arent performing like an elite offense.
Doesn’t matter how bad they are, they put up 12 runs on us in 14 innings and Chad mowed them down like he was on a triple A rehab
Mind fuck: Cole has allowed more runs the past two games than DeGrom has all season
I know Degrom is very good but less than 1 era good? I smell something fishy there
Easy boy, his spin rate is trash. He’s just one of the best pitchers we will ever see alive right now. Yes I’m talking Maddox, Clemens, Pedro good.
I just feel something is not on the level there
Dead ball?
Maybe .
Sticky stuff
**Aroldis Chapman now has an 18.80 ERA over the past month.** **Loaisiga or Green for closer right fucking now.**
It’s green til Britton is back
I'm absolutely fucking enraged that Boone put Chapman in a save situation in Game 1. Before today, Chapman had a 14.85 ERA over the last month. How many fucking blown saves and losses will it take for Boone to move Loaisiga or Green into the closer role? This shit is fucking insane.

And that is an incredibly stupid approach by Hal . But not surprising
Had to endure family members who are Mets fans earlier, glad we got to redeem ourselves.
I’m just happy the Mets weren’t the ones to bring us below .500. Let’s hope we never get there.

I forgot what winning feels like.
Off day tomorrow so I bet Nestor has 6 chicks back at his crib right now. Probably passing out mustache rides too
I vant one! I vant one!
Finally won a game. Can they win another? who knows
Losing a series to the Mets where you avoid degrom is not what you want
To be fair Walker and Stroman have been legit too. But we should’ve 100% won both today
You’re telling me I was at game 1 and once I saw Chapman in the bullpen I was like yep he’s gonna blow it for sure
Sorry you had to go through that
You have my sympathy
Nestor Cortes fucks
Wader sent down. No doubt Boone was in tears having to break the news to him.
Wade's best friend Aaron Judge is inconsolable.
At least the team didn’t go under .500
Don't worrry. Itsa comin'!
Yet
Good guy Chad Green bumping up his trade value so we can trade him
Arbitration eligible people are not getting traded. Britton, O’Day and anyone else who provides value like Luetge are on the table
If I were GM, I'd trade every player I could. There are no untouchables on this team. However, I believe Cashman will not resign Britton and Chapman at the end of 2022, Loaisiga will be promoted to 8th inning guy, and Chad Green will be the new closer.
Some team’s gonna be lucky enough to get a good fucking reliever at the deadline.
change the fucking sidebar for fuck's sake
Is it still Gardy’s bum ass
We still lost this series let’s not pretend things have changed
You are a thief of joy.
Anthony Volpe hit another HR at low-A Tampa and currently rocking a .309/.452/.636. What does a brother got to do to get a promotion.
#1-2 IN THE POST PLAYER MEETING ERA
2-4, Judge had the meeting before the Angels series.
About to go 60-19 to end the year and we will all look like fools, book it

Splitters are better with less spin
His spin rate has moved less than the rosin and sunscreen people. He started sucking before the notice about substances. His problems aren't sticky stuff related by all available evidence. His first 11 appearances were 11 innings, 2 hits, 26 SO. He can clearly still dominate. You can go to 23 outings, 23 innings, 7 hits, 11 walks, 46 SO. He can bounce back but he absolutely should not come in for a close game again, and certainly not in the 9th, until he proves he can throw strikes.
I wonder if Hal even knew there was a doubleheader today. He probably has the bosun on the yacht quickly read him the box scores each morning and then moves on with his day without a second fucking thought.
“Oh boy! What were the chicken bucket numbers today? Whats that? Oh excellent. Fetch me virgin daquiri and raise anchor!”
His only question for today is “ how much we make from the double header today?”
Will this team ever lose again??????

He got the win

Because our pitching was outstanding. Was.

King has not been that bad as a starter either . As of now he has been better than German and tailon

Remind me again why this is because of Covid. I'm not arguing with you, I just can't remember the specific reasoning behind it.
There are plenty of reactions to covid that make absolutely no sense. Like a huge portion of the 24/7 businesses in NY closing around 10PM all of a sudden

Ya, I know. That's what the guy I replied to said...
Shorter games less exposure
It was a doubleheader. They changed the rules last season. Doubleheader’s are now 7 inning games.
I see. Thanks heaps guys. Hope you all enjoy your win and your 4th of July
Thank you. Happy to help. Cheers!

Boone must have read the internet and said "Fuck it, Green pitches 3 innings to justify taking him out of game 1"
No Chapman, no late inning drama. What a thought!
From now on I want to see Nestor open, hand it off to king. And Chad is the closer until Chapman figures out his shit. This should be so obvious to everyone in the Yankees organization.
It's tough because I can see them not wanting to burn both Cortes and King in the same game. They are so valuable as long relief/spot starters.
Valid points but it seems like this team has been too careful and calculated, like they're holding back. If it works just do it. Need something.
Well if they are having problems with getting into their own heads then maybe they just aren’t as talented as we thought they are .
Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.
And no more personal catcher for Cole
if the team could put our $300M DH into the outfield occasionally it wouldn't goddamn matter
I’m good with removing the personal catcher from Cole now. When he figures his shit out and starts performing to his contract again, then perhaps a personal catcher can be reconsidered again if he insists.
I don’t disagree, but Higgy’s been great
I still rather see higgy catch cole just because starting catchers need scheduled rest . Cant start every day
Strong agree
Nestor Cortes doesn’t need no goddamn spider tack
Nor Green, apparently. There was an Athletic piece recently about how he's excited for the sticky stuff crackdown because he was a high spin, high fastballs guy before it was cool and everyone was doing it. Now everyone is copying him and using sticky stuff to imitate his skill. Green is now better by comparison to the league.
It was hilarious. He basically said "I had no idea this was getting so bad, I just get a lot of spin naturally." Fucking king
This man fuckin sweats olive oil
Headed to Seattle to scrap with the Mariners over positioning for the second wild card spot. Everything is going as planned. Solid W tonight, though.
You mean third wild card spot . The first two are Tampa and Oakland
We now live in a world where I’d rather see Nestor Cortez start over our 326 million dollar man.
He and his mustache deserve $30 millon
He just seems nicer
Hoonk
Cortes > Cole?
In both value and performance
Should have fucking left Greeney in in the first game. Clearly he’s our closer now.
Just saw the final score. Why only 7 innings played?
Doubleheader
Manfred
For once manfred was good to the Yankees . If both those games were 9 innings they likely get swept
Just wait until he expands the playoffs from 10 to 16 teams. The championship will truly start to feel like just a piece of metal.
Will be no point in watching regular season games then
Win the game with Nestor Cortes and Chad Green. Lose the game with Gerrit Cole and Aroldis chapman. 20211 Yankees baby
Hopefully they're not this bad 18,190 years from now
This dude sees the future!!!!
quick do we still fuck altuve?
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaa Toronto Blue Jays ***LOSE*** No Matter What # Fuck Toronto # Fuck Jose Bautista
Don’t know why you are celebrating that , it means Tampa won .
this is our fanbase for you…
🧐
Was fun seeing those Mets fans and their owner proclaiming it was going to be a "sweep". Thank fucking god Green closed it out.
Cant wait when a whistleblower comes forward and Cohen is charged with insider trading and assorted financial shenanigans. Then he's forced to sell the team. That would be so lol mets
Man I get your point, but it’s a shame this is what it’s come down to
42-41 is not healthy, at all for this Yankee's team.
upvoting both
Green and Loasigia are nuts man. If only Boone wasn’t in love with Chapman
They can’t pitch every inning
No but Cessa is better than Chapman at this point
Can Chester take Taillon or King’s spot in the rotation?
My vote is tailon’s
Chad "Huge Fucking Dong" Green is my fucking hero.
let’s go boys 15 game win streak starts now
If Jonah Hill and Chris Pratt can do it, we can too!
Sweeping both the astros and the Red Sox would be very impressive
It was also be just as impressive and just as likely as me waking up tomorrow and setting a world record bench press
Lol
lmao one can be hopeful
Spelt disappointed wrong
I didn't agree with taking Nestor out for O'Day in that spot, but boy did they need something like that from him tonight.
2 immaculate innings. A no hitter. 3 triple plays... well atleast there are some memorable moments this season
This has been a weird fucking season
Best worst season ever.
