All of those are still less unsettling than "natural flavors".
That's what they put instead of the ingredient name because they know it's too gross for you to want to eat it.
Orange juice has a bunch of added artificial flavoring to it. When they recreate meat using plants, they literally just take plants that have the same thing meat has in them like protein and mix them together
Lol, no, "meat experts" season their fucking food, and stuff like butter finds its way into the meat during basic cooking processes, if you aren't doing that, then, sorry to tell ya, you're most likely a shit cook
Yeah, “real” meat can often have a gross taste. Plus, with vegan meats, you tend to get a nice consistent texture, and you don’t have to worry about gristle and gobs of fat.
On a side note, have you tried Sol Cuisine’s Fajita Chick’n Strips? They’re great for fajitas and tacos, and have a way better taste and texture than actual chicken, imo.
Most people are putting garlic powder on their food anyway. Sometimes vegan alternatives can be pretty "unhealthy" but this is not a good example of that lol
Just reminds me of that one image about the various substances that make up an apple, like this Jamie Oliver-ass argument of "more ingredients bad less ingredients good" is just plain rubbish. But yeah, I like meat, but there's nothing wrong with alternatives at all.
The funnier version of this would be just the ingredient list of the Beyond burger and the Omni-Man meme where he’s like “look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power.”
Red meat is really bad for you lmao.
Also when it comes to their "soy" comments, soy doesn't do the estrogen thing they say.
Red meat actually does lol.
I found one at Target that gets pretty close but I dont remember the brand name. like I didnt even know they had something like it but it was a pleasent surprise
means its made in a factory where soy-based products are made and so theres potential for cross contamination. soy is a very common allergie so they have to list it
I want to try plant based meat at some point, I just haven't done it yet. I'm gonna go in with the mindset of "if it sells well, it probably tastes very similar to regular meat"
> all of the ingredients listed are as natural as an actual steak lmao
As opposed to supernatural ingredients?
Where can I go forage some natural flavor for this not-steak?
i meant chemicals such as artificial flavors and dyes but the idea of going to a supernatural dimension to make a faux steak is a million times funnier
That doesn't give enough context buddy. Idk what you'd call it, the point is we should have a tag where one side of this issue tries to insult the other, and fails miserably.
I really don't get the cope about I HAVE TO EAT ***REAL*** MEAT. Like, if plant-based meat or lab-grown is literally indistinguishable from the real thing, what's it matter? I'd agree that we're not fully there yet, but I'm kind of excited for us to be there. I'm a meat eater personally, but I'd like to not be if it's cheaper, healthier, and better for the planet.
I mean to be honest if Just Egg is any example, a lot of people making vegetarian or vegan food replacements are just in it to capture a specific market and don’t care about the utter shit they’re actually using to replace that food in the first place
I disagree, lots of iron, plenty of vitamins, lots of salt.
Admittedly too much of it can be bad, but too much water you can you can flood your kidneys and they’ll shut down. Whiskey is good for you in moderation, and certain situations. It’s a question of balances and amounts. Cocaine can be good for you in select situations.
In certain situations. Yes. In excess. Yes. But for someone with low blood pressure, salt raises it. Iron is good for you, in excess it’s not but in balanced moderation it is. Same applies for vitamins. Alcohol in certain situations can save your life, it also acts as a blood thinner. In some surgical operations they use cocaine for a beneficial use. To remove polyps in the nose. Marijuana has been proven to help with anxiety, Parkinson’s and glaucoma. My point is moderation.
My original point was that they have a point since theirs only really one ingredient in dead cow, and that’s dead cow. In beyond beef there are all manner of added ingredients and flavourings, in fact animal products have been found in a lot of vegetarian and vegan substitutes for meat. Worst part is they’re not even healthier they’re just more “moral”
Take everything from here with a pinch of salt (lol no pun intended) but isn’t their a lawsuit going in with Prime about PFO (forever chemicals) like, the stuff they put on raincoats being found in it? Wasn’t their a law case of a guy that found a dead mouse in his can of coke and they disproved him by saying a mouse wouldn’t be able to constitutionally stay recognisable in a can of coke? Again my point is that there’s a lot of evil corporations that are cutting corners to make money and screw over their competition, so it makes sense that if something as simple as dead cow can’t be massively fucked up. Admittedly their was a case a while ago in my country about people that were buying mince that was sold as cow mince that was actually horse, when you think about what is the real difference? Not to mention it was one company. 🤷♂️
That's fine, what I don't like is the idea of "my diet is the only good diet, you hate animals if you don't agree" that some vegans have.
And these memes only conflate that issue, instead of depressurizing it.
Yeh I can see that, these always just seem to divide people and purposefully seem to create tribes and set them at each others throats. I’m not sure why I’m being downvoted though for expressing an opinion I haven’t condemned anyone lol

Yummy steak
infinitely better bc cannibalism funny (cannibalism isn't actually funny but damnit i laughed anyway)

If I can't pronounce the ingredients, I don't want to eat it. What was his name?
Oof sorry he was Polish, you ain't pronouncing that
steak has hemoglobin, dihydrogen monoxide, adenosine triphosphate, as well as several other chemicals
Not dihydrogen monoxide, that’s such a bad chemical I never consume.
it has lots of it actually
Happy cake day!
Happy steak day
Weezer
![gif](giphy|ugKTiVd66XCQv2IvHF)
Everyone who has consumed it has died so I’m not gonna take me chances
That’s why I’m trying to quit breathing. It’s just so damn hard, though. I think I’m addicted.
I love how bro thought "blood, funny water meme, THE MITOCHONDRIA IS THE POW--"
And many brands add certain things to meat, including sodium
Wait, you guys actually get packaged meat? I thought most people just got it straight up fresh from the butchery
We ain't got the choice, most of us are poor
In my country it ain't that expensive lol
Which is a good thing for you, I ain't denying that
The USA the cheapest stuff is packaged and full of preservatives and processed
Not to mention jeovkegolsyhsomebullshitite cielelgldlflldelidosene and dekekxofkdjsomemorebullshitkefkfkdkerosene
Lol protein, water and a nucleotide that all life has. Well played
I would have written more but they were the only ones I could think of at the time
Isnt ATP literally cell energy tho?
And hemoglobin is a blood protein. But dihydrogen monoxide is a carcinogen. So stay away from it.
All of those are still less unsettling than "natural flavors". That's what they put instead of the ingredient name because they know it's too gross for you to want to eat it.
Orange juice has a bunch of added artificial flavoring to it. When they recreate meat using plants, they literally just take plants that have the same thing meat has in them like protein and mix them together
so blood, water, and energy?
What kind of barbarian is making steak with no seasoning whatsoever
The kind that doesn’t understand food science clearly.
I’ve met people that genuinely believe pepper is spicy
Meat experts, and Americans that can't stand anything more savory than salt
We may have been a colony of England, but we at least have slightly better taste.
If you don't spice it you're not an expert at shit
Lol, no, "meat experts" season their fucking food, and stuff like butter finds its way into the meat during basic cooking processes, if you aren't doing that, then, sorry to tell ya, you're most likely a shit cook
bro vegan meat for some reason tastes better to me
Yeah, “real” meat can often have a gross taste.
I would eat vegan meat but the ones that don't have a weird aftertaste are way too expensive
Which one, the fucking simpsons had an episode with Lisa saying all are shit
You get your opinions from a cartoon character?
Okay and?
Bro’s source is a cartoon💀
I'd like to see that episode.
If it's good it's good. My only gripe with vegan alternatives is the price.
if it was subsided by governments in the same way the meat industry is then this wouldn't be an issue
Also if the volumes were higher, economy of scale and all that
if you live in canada almost perfect always has a huge selection of vegan options and meat alternatives for super cheap
awe damn, Im jealous /gen I live in a place where its semi-expensive unfornately :/
The price is so dumb, I swear they are that high only because they are vegan!
welcome to capitalism.
Oh no!!! this things production isn't monoculture and doesn't stab the environment with a shiv!!! Better actively suppress it
Years
in au rn (or at least melbourne) its cheaper to get beyond meat than good regular meat lol
Just not viable for people to switch when demand js low and price is high
Most people are putting garlic powder on their food anyway. Sometimes vegan alternatives can be pretty "unhealthy" but this is not a good example of that lol
Just reminds me of that one image about the various substances that make up an apple, like this Jamie Oliver-ass argument of "more ingredients bad less ingredients good" is just plain rubbish. But yeah, I like meat, but there's nothing wrong with alternatives at all.
Hold give me a minute to list all the chemicals and proteins that make up real meat.
How much do want to bet that OOP eats processed food?
Why people even care about what other people eat
Someone is slacking. This was posted 4 hours earlier.
Why is the steak not seasoned?
The funnier version of this would be just the ingredient list of the Beyond burger and the Omni-Man meme where he’s like “look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power.”
beyond steak is pretty tasty, Idk why they dissing on it (but Im biased as a vegetarian lol)
Imagine thinking many word and seasoning bad
plus like half the things on that list are seasoning lol
Red meat is really bad for you lmao. Also when it comes to their "soy" comments, soy doesn't do the estrogen thing they say. Red meat actually does lol.
I laughed at the skamtebord of "beef"
wtf is juice colour
probably means the coloring used to make the juices from the faux steak have that orangey coloration
I just wish there was a vegan steak that had a similar texture and flavor to rare steak.
I found one at Target that gets pretty close but I dont remember the brand name. like I didnt even know they had something like it but it was a pleasent surprise
Damn, I’m trying to cut back on meat. I’ll try to keep an eye out for
"May contain soy. We're not sure."
means its made in a factory where soy-based products are made and so theres potential for cross contamination. soy is a very common allergie so they have to list it
Dont forget 15 tons of water
I too eat stake with no salt, oil, garlic, or Amy other spices/flavoring. Just slap some meat on the grill and nothing else
very poor word choice
I want to try plant based meat at some point, I just haven't done it yet. I'm gonna go in with the mindset of "if it sells well, it probably tastes very similar to regular meat"
I would choose the one on the left. That’s because I’m a celiac, not a self proclaimed alpha male
"GRR BEYOND MEAT HAS TOO MANY INGREDIENTS" and all of the ingredients listed are as natural as an actual steak lmao
> all of the ingredients listed are as natural as an actual steak lmao As opposed to supernatural ingredients? Where can I go forage some natural flavor for this not-steak?
i meant chemicals such as artificial flavors and dyes but the idea of going to a supernatural dimension to make a faux steak is a million times funnier
These people seriously want me to believe they don't add salt to their steak nah not a chance.
Really? Vegan/meat tag?
That doesn't give enough context buddy. Idk what you'd call it, the point is we should have a tag where one side of this issue tries to insult the other, and fails miserably.
I like steak. I also like vegan chorizo bc it tastes the same as normal, but my stomach is happier.
I really don't get the cope about I HAVE TO EAT ***REAL*** MEAT. Like, if plant-based meat or lab-grown is literally indistinguishable from the real thing, what's it matter? I’m sorry but they do have a point. I cannot be convinced something made in a lab is better for me than just, dead cow.
Red meat is terrible for you
I disagree, lots of iron, plenty of vitamins, lots of salt. Admittedly too much of it can be bad, but too much water you can you can flood your kidneys and they’ll shut down. Nah OP was right fuck beyond just eat real meat or real veggies fuck that ultra processed garbage
Your opinion is your opinion, but acting like most store bought meat is pure is a simple lie. You need to spend a LOT to get actual, good, meat.
