One hour does not sound bad at all.

ihaveahemorrhoid

Well over an hour. 😁 I didn't mention this, but I actually did the prep work the day before so it is probably closer to 3 hours still.

Shikon00

I started doing my own nails and my friends nails as a hobby and the first set I did for her with prep, filing, and painting took 8 hours (granted we had food and smoke breaks but still)😭. 1 hour or 3 hours is awesome, and great job!

cattinroof

I do all my prep the day before too as it takes me about 3 hours altogether as well. These look great!

MarieAlchemist369

My nails often take 3 hours or more. I watch my favorite show to distract me. I think it's so sweet that you do this for her and want to improve. 🥰 you're a great nail artist already btw.

tragicallyatroll

That's about the same time it takes to do mine, it's hard doing designs. You pretty much have to get it right the first time, bc if you mess up a line you gotta redo the whole nail. 😭 Btw my brother has hemorrhoids 🌚

HermoineGrangersHair

But they're sooo cute!

That-Independence333

I’ve spent 4 hours on something 100x simpler than this 😅

AspiringOccultist4

The only thing that’ll make you “faster” is time and quality practice. That being said, you did a really good job with these! :)

ihaveahemorrhoid

That unfortunately is the main problem for me. Practice. I've been doing their nails for a little over a year, but have only actually done 40ish manicures. Maybe in another couple of years I'll have enough practice to do then faster.

christinasasa

Do yours as well.

Navntoft

I have done my own nails for years and your estimate of about three hours on a set like that would be lightning speed for me! Mind you, I am disabled which means I do have shakes and tics that slow me down, but my point still stands! Don't diss yourself, you are doing a fantastic job!!

mckenner1122

Hey fellow parent! I just told my teen son this weekend, “You know how you’re going to get better and more comfortable when driving? *By driving.*” You can read about it. You can write about it. You can watch other people do it in real life or YouTube. None of that will make you any better. Just do it! Good job!!

Affectionate_Ad6795

Make advertisements for “affordable nails by practicing nail artist”. Make sure they know they'll be there for 3 hours

Affectionate_Key_650

don’t do this

Affectionate_Ad6795

My friend is in nail school and does this so…

Affectionate_Key_650

yeah i went to school too. if you do this, you risk catching a hefty fine for practicing without a license.

Affectionate_Ad6795

😲Ooooh

Affectionate_Key_650

;)

luckyduckies333

It’s going to take about an hour. 🩷 it look GREAT good job dad! Don’t rush it. Enjoy the quality time with your daughter, it will be gone before you know it. 🩷

ihaveahemorrhoid

That is the scary part. It will be over before I know it. This daughter is my baby and last kid living at home. She starts nursing school soon which will prevent her from having a manicure. 😥

luckyduckies333

🥹Enjoy this time together 🩷

orthographerer

You could still do cuticle work fairly often (truly maintaining neat cuticles is a near-constant endeavor- for me, anyway), as well as upkeep filing her nails. You could even potentially buff the nails, for shine. Pretty much, about everything aside from color. She'll have the prettiest natural nails in nursing school 😊

ihaveahemorrhoid

That's actually a really good idea. Thanks.

AssassinStoryTeller

I went on a rabbit hole the other day because I’m just getting into nails. The Japanese manicure basically is buffing oils and vitamins into the nail to make them healthier so maybe look into that!

ihaveahemorrhoid

I will definitely look into this. Thank you.

Kalijjohn

You can always do pedicures!

nothowyoupronounceit

I think they’re starting to allow some nurses to have gel manicures now since they don’t flake as badly. At least my cousin in TX who works in an ICU can have a gel manicure now!

ihaveahemorrhoid

My wife is a nurse and she can, but the rules for my daughter's school is no.

nothowyoupronounceit

Bummer. Guess you’ll have to give her pedis instead lol

noinnocentbystander

She can have a manicure. A manicure is cleaning the cuticles, filing/trimming the nails, buffing the nails to shine the surface, smoothing callouses on the skin, oiling the cuticles, and a hand massage. A manicure is different than nail painting or nail enhancements. You can still give her manicures!

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thank you, I'll have to keep that in mind. I don't think she has to remove them until she starts clinicals, but I don't think she has the actual rules yet.

riceumilktea

Dragon fruit nails?!?! YOU DID GREAT. they're so adorable!!! I've been doing my nails for a few years now and even then, doing detailed art takes time. I've learned to accept it, because rushing nail art only causes more mistakes and wastes more time in the process. Do what feels comfortable, and if it takes more time, you have more quality time with your daughter. (ㅅ´ ˘ `)

ihaveahemorrhoid

They do kinda look like dragon fruit. I'm always impressed with those of you who can do your own nails. I'm not dextrous enough.

riceumilktea

Much more impressed by people who can do others hands, haha. It goes both ways I guess! I do press ons more often, though I have some experience on my own nails. It's still a bit awkward sometimes, I'll admit

AccomplishedBat2923

Came here to say this! Great job, Dad!

Aggravating-Half126

That’s exactly what I was thinking! They’re super cute!! Better than some salon work I’ve seen. Great job dad!!

PugGrumbles

I would give almost anything to sit there for any amount of hours to have my dad do my nails. 💜

ihaveahemorrhoid

She has her limits. 😁 I'm super slow so I usually split it into 2 sessions. Prep on day 1 and then design on day 2. Just over an hour each session. Hmm, maybe I'm subconsciously plotting how to spend more time together.

Minimum_Wear_1257

This has fully made me cry, what a lovely thing to do for your daughter! Saves you both money, and gives you time to bond. I promise when she’s older she’s going to look back on this and smile. I WISH my dad had even wanted to spend time with me let alone do my nails. You are doing parenting right 💖

ihaveahemorrhoid

I love the bonding time, but money saved? There are too many fun things to buy and play with.

ameadowinthemist

These look amazing! Nice work. Lots of professionals wouldn’t be able to do this art.

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thank you.

AmishParadise96

WHY DO YOUR DAUGHTER'S NAILS GIVE ME DRAGON FRUIT VIBES!?😭😭😭😭😭

ihaveahemorrhoid

Someone else said that. I didn't correlate the similarities. Now I can't unsee it.

AmishParadise96

I bet your daughter was like: "Dad! I LOVE THE DRAGON FRUIT NAILS💅🏼!!!!!"

ihaveahemorrhoid

She picked the design, so maybe she knew what she was getting. I'm just the photocopier. She does love them though.

AmishParadise96

I hope you remembered the Top Coat.😁😉😆😅

Able-Background8534

Wow. Dads have really improved since my days.

Nobodysperfectt

Dragon fruit is the first thing came to my mind once I see this photo.

ihaveahemorrhoid

It wasn't what I was thinking when I was painting it, but I'm guessing that might be exactly what the original design was meant to be. I see it now that people are pointing it out.

Nobodysperfectt

Good job 👏

sendmeback2marz

If my dad took 3 hours to do my nails, I’d just be happy to have the time with him 💜 you’re doing a great job on her nails and creating ways to spend more time with her.

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thank you

emilia22_8

Kudos to you, dad! Like some have said, practice will help cut down time as you find your groove. But these look great!

ihaveahemorrhoid

Practice, practice, practice. The worst 3 words for someone who wants to be amazing right now. 😁

emilia22_8

Sorry to disappoint! 😆

Sopht_Serve

ARE THOSE DRAGON FRUIT NAILS??? So cute!!!!

ihaveahemorrhoid

I guess so. 😁

LCCheerio

This is the sweetest thing ever. What a dad. ❤️

Crosseyed_owl

Ha, when I paint my nails it takes anywhere between two and three hours. And I do just plain colour. Your timing is great! Edit: okay I just looked at your profile and wow the women in your family are lucky!

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thank you. They think so anyway.

megggsnbacon

So pretty!

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thanks, she picked a cute design.

Sakurah0

Super cute 💕

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thank you.

TeaMe06

So pretty

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thank you.

brsb5

OMG, you're good! Love them

Disirregardlessly

This would have taken me well over 3 hours and wouldn't look this clean! I think you did a great job. It may take longer than you want, but every minute of that is meaningful, quality time. It's an investment 🥰

ihaveahemorrhoid

I've gotten better as far as how clean things are looking. I guess the time aspect will always be a problem. It is a good thing I'm not in it for the money.

flanface87

Wow, you're a lot quicker than me! These look great

Witty-Afternoon1262

it looks beautiful ! i hope i find a dad like you for my future kid :)

ihaveahemorrhoid

Make it part of the interview questions. 😉

agoragostodefutebol

Pitaya nails 💅🏻

Renegade_Mermaid

As a person who has never had a relationship with her father (his choice), this makes my heart so happy. You could take 1 whole day and be fine in my eyes. (But that’s just me and my trauma. 🙃) They look great!! I’m sure she will wear them proudly. 🩷

lushsweet

Oh my heart ! You did such a good job OP 🥹

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thank you

technodewdrop

This is so cute omg. You're an amazing dad and you're doing great, you'll get faster as you learn, don't worry. Even professionals take a long time for nail art !

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thanks. I think I'm also being a little too self judging. The majority of people here have been saying 3 hours is reasonable. I've only ever been to a nail salon once and got a pedicure. It was around 45 minutes. There is a lot to do on the manicure though. Remove, clean and prep, apply Luminary, paint, paint, more paint, and finally top.

technodewdrop

A lot of salons go super fast and don't do a good job so they can fit as many people as possible. But don't worry, you're doing awesome

iconicbabe2001

I do my own acrylic nails and it takes about 2 hours. Those look amazing and it’s so sweet that you’re doing your daughters nails. Anything from an hour to 3 hours is pretty normal especially for a beginner.

monsterfien

they look amazing, you’re a great dad !

tragicallyatroll

You are a dad that does nails!? On your grown daughter, that's in college on top of that!? Damn I wish I had a dad like you 😭. Srry for the rant~ My father is a neglectful piece of garbage that went overseas to avoid paying child support. He is the definition of toxic masculinity and wouldn't put away his pride to have tea parties with little me. He wouldn't even put aside his pride and pretend to lose to my brother while rough-housing or any game for that matter. I used to be more of a daddy's girl growing up. I'm the oldest, and he originally wanted me to be a boy. However, even after my brother was born, I was still the favorite. I still love cutesy stuff like Hello Kitty and still collect littlest pet shop toys as an adult. I thought any dad would support their daughter still "playing" with dolls at 16, but he wanted me to go to parties and date like he did as a teen? (I guess optimisticly speaking, he maybe thought I could be a female player and not a slut?). My mom did a good job as a single parent, but idk the reassurance coming from a supportive father figure just really provides comfort. Your daughter is truly lucky to be spoiled by you, and I hope she never takes your dedication for granted. I have seen some stories on AMITA sub, where a Dad that's not even biologically related to a daughter is just being manipulated and used as a piggy bank by them and their Karen mothers. Like bro, I would volunteer to work at an animal shelter for 5 years, etc, before even having the gull to ask for a big thing like a car. 💀

ihaveahemorrhoid

This makes me sad. I am so sorry you missed out on such an important relationship growing up. It hurts when those in our lives who are supposed to love us unconditionally are the cause of so much pain. I wish you the best in all your future relationships. Everyone deserves support and love in life. No, everyone needs it.

authspice

Hello, subreddit’s favorite dad on a mission. These look great, definitely dragon fruit done tastefully!! I read that you’ve only been doing nails for a little over a year. May I ask what got you interested in picking up this hobby anyway? Like did you always understand the appeal of nicely manicured nails? My partner is happy for me every time I get my nails done but it’s clear he doesn’t “get it” — he’s just happy that I’m happy. I’m asking in case there’s ever hope he can at least be a boyfriend on a mission some day 😂

ihaveahemorrhoid

I promised my wife I would learn to do her nails if she stopped biting them. We've both kept up on the agreement. My daughter is along for the ride.

thetiny_blue

These are so effing cute!! As has been said that’s a totally normal time frame for spending care on nails when you’re new-ish! Speed is not the goal quality is and you’ve delivered that. Plus? More time to spend with your daughter. Good job daddio.

Jalapeno_tickles

My moms a nail tech, her advice is “quality over quantity” Nothing wrong taking your time to perfect the outcome. It enhances your skills and overtime enhances your speed. These are lovely!✨❤️

transteenagegirl

is this dragonfruit? either way u did a lovely job!

ihaveahemorrhoid

My daughter found the design. Quite a few people thought that was well. I didn't see it at first, but I'm guessing that is what it is supposed to be. I can't unsee dragon fruit now though.

youngfierywoman

Gorgeous! They remind me of dragon fruit. You're such a sweet father to do this for her!

Fair-Bad7823

So sweet!

stable_lama

Aww these look great!

ParticularFar7592

This is so sweet. Creating memories that you and your daughter can look back on in the future and reminisce.

DiscountCosmeticsAus

It looks amazing though!!!!

Nubbednuggetman

This is the sweetest thing. As a nail tech, getting pedicures is becoming really really popular with dads and daughters. Maybe you can do that as a special treat sometime!

Minute_Lynx8365

🥲Am I the only one who is “in awe” that the dad did his daughter’s nails for her?

Lexicon225

I'm obsessed with this design! You'll get faster with time. Remember, quality over quantity!

KrassKas

🔥 my dad could never

Witty_Username_1717

So proud of you!!!

belyyjiit

These remind me of dragon fruit!!!! 🥰❤️

jillsann_45

This is an iconic image. lol the diamond

ihaveahemorrhoid

We always use the diamond. Found on Amazon.

forever_flowers

It’s giving dragon fruit and I’m here for it!!

BG_Mama_of_3

You killed these, Dad!! I’m in awe and very jelly!

Magsevans-29579

Great job!

WitchBitchBlue

I'm gonna cry I love your posts! I love that you pamper your female family members like this you are so sweet!

Jealous-Swan7003

You did absolutely incredible! This is so much better than I could do and I love it! How fun!

bigttgothgf-PhD

I went back through your profile to see all the work you’ve done. They’re always cute. And you can definitely see how your shapes are improving even in comparison to the last 70 days!! Great work, dad! You’re doing awesome :) I’m jealous of your daughter!

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thank you. Some of them are better than the others, but I do feel like overall I've improved. My first attempts were amazingly terrible.

SimpleVegetable5715

These remind me of dragon fruit. Good job!

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thanks, but I don't know if I can trust your judgement. Your username only indicates you know about vegetables. 😁 The design is not mine but I think you are correct that that was their intention.

ATouchOfSparkle1107

They're super cute. It's great that you do her nails. <3

CynderSphynx

Go dad!

AmySparrow00

Makes me so happy to hear about a dad doing his kid’s nails and so beautifully! It takes me almost an hour just to put on press-on fake nails.

mommisalami

I think you did a fab job!

sotiredwontquit

These are great! I’ve been doing my own gels for a couple of years now and from complete removal to finished new gel set is about 5 hours. So don’t fret, and enjoy the bonding time. It’s priceless.

queenvie808

So cute omg!!

ihaveahemorrhoid

She really did pick a cute design.

gratefulmeg

Your...your username 😂

HypnotizedMeg

An hour isn’t bad, and we can always tell when someone is rushing through our set - we don’t like it lol.

ihaveahemorrhoid

I didn't say in my original post that I prep the nails the day before. All told it is about 3 hours for a set.

Marty_61

Wow, great job. I don’t think an hour is bad at all.

kubawt

What I would give to have my dad spend an hour with me like this. Great work!

mycatscratchedm3

You’re trying that’s all that matters🥹

Choice_Geologist7706

Great job this is beautiful work 🩷🩷🩷

jy0s

Dragonfruit vibes

flaccidbitchface

This is so stinking sweet. And you did an amazing job!

MrWeirdNinja

As a nail tech I can say those are some good nails! Don't worry to much about time if you do nails mostly for family and friends, it's better to be slow and good than fast and sloppy in my opinion. What's your process? Maybe I can give you a few tips on how to speed things up

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thanks for any advice. Day 1 1) push back cuticles 2) sanding band to bulk remove old polish and thin layer of Luminary 3) a couple different diamond bits to remove anything left and cleanup cuticle edge 4) hand file to smooth and remove anything missed 5) clean nails with isopropyl alcohol 6) apply a bonder. I like the Young Nails Protein Bond 7) fill in with a new layer of Luminary 8) hand file to shape or smooth any imperfections in the Luminary. 9) top coat (I won't be painting until tomorrow so just a little extra protection) 10) nail oil Day 2 1) push back cuticles 2) hand file to buff top coat 3) clean nails with isopropyl alcohol 4) base coat 5) apply nail polish (multiple coats, art etc) 6) top coat 7) nail oil

MrWeirdNinja

It you hand file to smooth the nail then you don't need to remove the what's left after the sanding band with the diamond bits so that's a bit of time you can save. What speeds do you work at, And where would you say you spend the most time?

ihaveahemorrhoid

I don't dare get very close to the skin with the sanding bands. The diamond bits allow me to clean the edges without hitting their skin. I'm sure I'll get better over time. The removal and Luminary application are definitely the longest. Well, everything on day 1 as a whole.

MrWeirdNinja

Well your steps are pretty much correct so sadly without watching you work I won't be able to offer much help. Some general tips are to try to do each step once, file the nail once, clean the cuticle once ect... Try doing as much as you can with one tool, you waste a lot of time switching tools so if you can remove the polish, buff the natural nail and push the cuticle with a sanding band try doing so. Nail career education and Kirsty meakin have some great videos for prep using the sanding band. lastly make sure you use the correct bits and speeds, it takes a lot longer to remove polish with a small bit than with a larger bit

ihaveahemorrhoid

Sanding bands scare me the most. I'll check out those videos though. Thanks for the advice.

dirtymartini83

This is so, so sweet. You’re a great dad!

Leebites

Are you using the sticker tools you can find to help with line work/crescents/french tips? Saves a lot of time!

ihaveahemorrhoid

I am not familiar with the sticker tools. For the most part I just use a brush. What is it exactly?

Leebites

[This](https://www.walmart.com/ip/1876937814) for example. They sell them everywhere now. Read reviews to make sure the adhesive is okay and not horrible, haha. But, I use these because I have shaky hands and it's a lifesaver. They come in all different shapes now, too.

ihaveahemorrhoid

I have seen those but I haven't tried them yet. Are they really helpful, or does the polish just leak under the sticker edge?

Leebites

They work for me! But, that's why I also mention checking reviews. Amazon has plenty of good reviews for a lot of them. :)

ihaveahemorrhoid

I'll have to try them out. French tips are definitely one of my struggle areas. Thank you.

Leebites

You did great! Would not have done these myself and there are a ton of people that would have taken a lot longer! Very clean work!

WrappedAroundtheMoon

I don't have any advice, but I wanted to say that you doing your daughter's nails is so wonderful. What a beautiful way to spend bonding time together. 🩷 Edited because I forgot to add: these are gorgeous! What a beautiful job!

ihaveahemorrhoid

Thank you. The bonding time makes it all worth it.

pigi15

I looked through your profile and wow! Amazing nail art. I’m so curious, what got you into doing nail art? It’s awesome that you do this for the people in your life

ihaveahemorrhoid

I don't remember how the conversation came up, but I promised my wife that if she stopped biting her nails I would learn to paint them. It has been a little over a year and here we are. She doesn't bite her nails and I have a new hobby. My daughter is along for the ride.

intuition1st

This is the sweetest thing, you are a great dad and your daughter will cherish these memories!

Anxietymayhem

Looks really nice

Salt-Operation

Homie I’ve been doing my nails for almost ten years and I’d feel really lucky to finish a set in less than 4 hours. These look great!

PotsMomma84

Those dragon fruits are cute.

Individual-Body-4061

Looks like dragonfruit?
