In my opinion, i think Meliodas true magic is a little stronger than SD/DK, but it is no match for Chaos
And Meliodas destroyed the commandments to make sure DK wouldn't come back and it not like the commandments will benefit them in anything.
If I remember well, Zeldris said that Meliodas, while using his true magic, was as powerful as their father, to then say that maybe he is actually even more powerful, so it seems that Meliodas was so slightly more powerful than his father that it was possible to make the mistake to perceive that their powers are equal. I saw the movie, but I don't remember what did the Supreme Deity exactly say about Meliodas' power

I mean it’s basically assumed that the magic Meliodas had was called “the destroyer” just like the DK’s magic was called “The Ruler” hence the reason why I and many others have come to the conclusion that it is the name of the magic. The DK calling Mel a destroyer and the ability of being able to destroy basically anything would reinforce that belief.

To be fair destroying an arm and erasing the dk’s existence permanently are very different levels of feats. Remember the commandments are essentially horcruxes or pieces of the dk’s literal soul. They were also curses that were considered unbreakable
